Barry is a consitent fader and slicer of the ball and therefore needed clubs in his bag that straightened out his ball flight and gave him more distance.

His current irons were bought off the rack. In fact, the only club he was fitted for previously was his putter. Being 6 foot 3, his current irons were too short and too flat. Ping fitter Paul Rymer bumped him up to a lie angle of 3.75° upright in the new Ping G irons and the results spoke for themselves.

“The Ping G irons gave Barry more consistency and nine more yards of carry. We went for the Project X 5.5 shafts as he got on better with the stiffer profile.”

“It would kind to say I’m a very inconsistent striker with my driver,” Barry told GM. “I do have a TaylorMade R1 driver but I don’t actually use it out on the course, instead I use an SLDR Mini, essentially a strong, larger headed three wood.

Barry went into the Ping G SF Tec 12° in the Tour regular shaft. He immediately hit the ball straighter and over 10 yards of carry.

“The key for Barry was to hit more fairways and we’ve achieve that,” Rymer continued. “To get the extra distance too in a driver he really likes the look of and feels confident in is a bonus.”

Barry only tends to use fairway woods off the tee, but going into the Ping G SF Tec three wood, bumped up to 17° and with the same shaft as his new driver, Barry got 10 more yards over his current hybrid with greater consistency.

“I don’t have the confidence to use a three wood off the deck. But with the Ping G fairway wood at 17° I feel I can take on more of the par fives on now. It’s got the potential to be a game-changer for me.”
