Harrington unconcerned with practice form

Padraig Harrington speaks about his role in the Ryder Cup team and reveals that he is not too concerned with his form in the practice rounds at Celtic Manor

European Ryder Cup wildcard, Padraig Harrington, has revealed that he is not concerned with his form in the practice rounds at Celtic Manor.

The Irishman is winless since his 2008 USPGA triumph and has struggled this season to find any real consistency, meaning he had to rely on Colin Montgomerie selecting him ahead of the likes of Paul Casey and Justin Rose.

Going into his sixth Ryder Cup the Dubliner is under pressure to justify Montgomerie's faith in him. The 39-year-old is just desperate to get going on Friday and was quick to play down his promising form in practice.

"As Lee Trevino said, the worst score he ever shot was 65 on Wednesday," said Harrington. "Yesterday I played well. Today I started poorly and played well after that. It doesn't really count for much, it has to be Friday onwards."

The Ryder Cup veteran also revealed that he was happy to give out advice to the Ryder Cup rookies on the European team.

"I'm definitely trying to do as much as I can," Harrington added. "I'm trying to talk to the rookies, and try and give them as much advice as I can and give them as much confidence as I can.

"I'm definitely much more proactive about what I'm doing maybe than I would have in past years. And then it's just one of those things, I want to make sure I give as much back as I can this week, both off the golf course and on the golf course."
