Putters: Golf gear focus

Golf Monthly takes a look at the leading, cutting-edge design putters on the market, including the Nike METHOD 001, PING Wack-E iN and TaylorMade Rossa Kia Ma Imola 8

Nike METHOD 001 putter, £160

Key technology: The Polymetal Groove Technology of the Nike METHOD 001 putter dampens impact vibrations for a softer feel, while precision-milled steel face offers audible feedback for distance control.

We really enjoyed putting with the Method. The ball springs off the face, giving you plenty of confidence on round-defining putts of six feet and under. Nike's offering has a heavy, but well-weighted head and a beautiful shape. The look of the black grooves on the face cheapened the overall feel.

Odyssey Black Series Tour 2 putter, £199
Key technology:
The Odyssey Black Series Tour 2 putter has a dark PVD finish that reduces glare. The urethane-dampening layer between the head and flange is designed to enhance feel.

The milled black face offers a superb roll. The strike is also slightly firmer than the White Ice range, making it more suitable for year-round golf in the UK. Black Series' stunning new finish helps to remove all glare. An expensive price tag for such a simple, classic design.
