Sergio Garcia has claimed The European Tour Shot of the Month Award for October for his approach on the seventh to set up birdie on the final day at the Castello Masters.

Victory at his home course Club de Campo del Mediterráneo was his first on European soil for three years.

The Spaniard was under pressure from Peter Hedblom when he found his ball in a difficult lie, only to shape his shot around trees and onto the eighth green for a two-putt birdie four.

Garcia went on to win by three strokes from Hedblom and his form continued into the start of the Race to Dubai as he won again two weeks later at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Steve Webster, who chipped in from thick rough at the seventh hole on the last day of the Portugal Masters, claimed second place in October’s Shot of the Month, and Charl Schwartzel was third.

The winning shots from each month are entered into The 2008 European Tour Shot of the Year Award, which will be announced next month.

Padraig Harrington was in inspirational form in July and August and looks favourite for the award with two entries.
