The new Yonex Ezone Elite 3.0 range has been launched today and is aimed at mid-to-high handicap golfers looking for superior distance and forgiveness.

Yonex has today announced its new Ezone Elite 3.0 series of golf clubs designed to offer superior distance and forgiveness for mid-to-high handicap golfers in a full men's and women's range.

The new series of clubs includes a new driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and a putter and all have been created optimal shaft weight, kick point and torque to provide maximum forgiveness, distance and feel.

The new Ezone Elite 3.0 driver uses In-Core Groove technology which is designed to improve the flex of the face, crown and sole of the golf club, creating faster ball speeds across the face with lower spin rates.

Updated Octoforce technology in the driver removes weight from the crown and upper face of the driver, lowering the centre of gravity to promote a high, forgiving launch and maximum carry for golfers.

The Ezone Elite 3.0 fairway woods and hybrids feature the same In-Core and Octoforce technology as the driver and also feature a diagonal groove design to optimise ball flight for each club and increase accuracy.

The Ezone Elite 3.0 irons also feature In-Core and Octoforce technology as well as a double undercut cavity which helps shift the  weight of the iron further back from the face, lowering the centre of gravity to promote a high ball flight.

The new putter is the Ezone Elite 3.0 series has been designed in a traditional mallet shape and style to provide more forgiveness from off-centre strikes. It also has a CNC milled face to produce a smooth roll on putts of all distances.

Yonex Ezone GS Iron Review

In terms of technology, the Ezone GS iron combines a mild carbon steel body, tungsten plate, carbon graphite insert and maraging steel face to boost ball speed, distance and feel. An enlarged sweetspot allows for greater launch from all areas of the face, as well as 10 per cent more distance from low-face impacts. The graphite also acts as a damper amongst the harder metals to improve playability and feel.

Perhaps a brand that often gets overlooked, Yonex has made some impressive clubs down the years and the Ezone GS iron continues that trend. Built for the game-improver, it prioritises distance and forgiveness in equal measure and our testing showed that it delivers. At address, this iron ticks every box a mid-handicapper is looking for. Traditional in shape, it looks inviting to hit without being clunky and the white bottom groove helps set the face square.

The wide sole with gentle camber increases the margin for error on the strike, helping you get away with a slightly heavy contact, while well-struck shots are rewarded with a strong, powerful ball flight. The 7-iron loft is 29°, so fairly strong, resulting in our carries averaging 185 yards with the Nippon NS Pro 950GH steel shaft.

But Yonex does excel in the graphite shaft category, so pairing this head with its own stock 53g EX-330 graphite shaft (£839) will undoubtedly help most golfers increase swing speed and launch, translating the same effort into more distance without sacrificing accuracy. It should also help you practice for longer too.

This iron does feel quite firm but is very solid and stable on mishits – ideal for inconsistent golfers who require assistance to find more greens in regulation. It has a flawless look at address, and it is definitely an appealing prospect for the mid-handicap golfer that should not be discounted.

Lofts in irons are always a hot topic, specifically because they seem to get stronger and stronger every year, leading golfers to question where gains in performance from generation to generation are actually coming from.

But Yonex believes it is more than justified to incorporate stronger lofts in its new Ezone CB 701 iron. The clubhead of this forged iron is crammed full of technology, including thin maraging steel face and tungsten weighting, to help increase the launch angle and forgiveness. The stronger lofts merely produce the optimum ball flight by counteracting this enhanced performance.

To help increase clubhead speed and improve the feel, Yonex’s own graphite shafts come as standard. They are made a new NAMD graphite material said to improve the interface adhesion of the graphite fibers and resin, resulting in high strength at a lighter weight, increased flex and greater snapback. It all sounds very technical, but Yonex are graphite specialists prolific in other sports like tennis and badminton.

The 7-iron loft is a lowly 26°, which is one of the strongest on the market and will be the same as a lot of golfers’ 5-irons, which is why we selected it for a 200-yard carry distance challenge. There’s no doubt the construction of this club is designed to help golfers achieve greater distance with their iron shots, especially those who are limited physically, and it unquestionably delivers that.

The lightweight graphite shaft feels easy to swing and should help golfers be able to practice for longer. Additionally, because it is high torque, it was surprisingly stable for our above average swing speed.

Yonex may not be a household name in the world of golf equipment but these irons have seriously impressed us. Yes they come in at a premium price, but there are certainly gains to be had, especially for golfers that have resisted switching to graphite shafts in the past.

Key technology - A high-tensile, Honeycomb Structure graphite crown allows for more flex at the top of the face. - A second-generation Power Groove sole allows maximum repulsion from low on the clubface and increases the size of the driver’s sweetspot. - A vertical polish on the face allows the ball to slide upwards at impact. This reduces the amount of sidespin that is created compared with a ‘traditional’ horizontally polished or milled driver clubface.

GM Review Yonex might be a brand best known for its graphite shafts, but its talents spread much wider into metalwood design and specifically the new Ezone GS driver.

It’s an affordable, playable and adjustable driver that ticks the boxes many golfers look for despite Yonex not being a household name. It has interchangeable 2g and 8g weights on the sole, with one port located in the heel that enables golfers to increase the draw bias on offer. The hosel is also adjustable for loft and face angle to help tighten start lines and optimise launch.

We tested a 9° model with the heavier weight at the rear in the striking yellow Rexis Kaiza-H x-stiff shaft produced in-house by Yonex.

The Ezone GS has a traditional look at address, with a premium matte finish and rounded profile. It isn’t the easiest to align, but the two rows of white dots on the face help frame the ball centrally.

This driver feels incredibly solid from a wide area and this translated into good distance without seemingly sacrificing accuracy. It didn’t quite produce the ball speeds of the latest models from the mainstream brands, but its efficiency of converting club speed to ball speed was as good as anything we’ve tested this year.

Carries hovered around the 270-yard mark, maxing out at 274 yards, which is no slump by any means. The spin at just over 2000 rpm was perfectly matched with the high launch angle of 14.5° launch angle but for some reason we couldn't fashion the club speed we were accustomed to to really eke out extra yardage. Perhaps we were just testing on an off day.

Undoubtedly, the forgiveness of the head going a long way to offsetting any issues with strike and clubface control. The high-launching nature of the clubhead means it will likely work better for golfers with slightly slower swing speeds, who may also appreciate the slice-fighting capability of the moveable weight. We’re also confident most golfers will love looking down on the large, matte crown covered with subtle graphite details.

In the form of the Z-Force range launched last late in 2014, Yonex offered cutting-edge graphite technology as well as high levels of forgiveness for the slower swing speed player.

Complimenting this line going into 2017 is the new Ezone Elite range, a super game improvement collection of clubs aimed at high handicappers, senior and lady golfers in the mid-price bracket.

Key to the improvement is performance is upgraded Octaforce technology, whereby octagonal sections of the crown and clubface have been made thinner. This saves weight that is then repositioned to make the clubs more forgiving, but also move the CG lower and deeper for lower spin and higher launch.

There’s also a light yet low torque M60 shaft as standard, which is 3g lighter than the shaft found in the Z-Force driver, to help increase clubhead speed for improved energy transfer. In the driver (RRP £199), golfers can adjust the loft up or down by 1.5° thanks to the Quick Adjust System on the hosel.

Should you be using graphite shafts in your irons?

Testing has shown the Ezone Elite driver launches 0.8° higher launch than the Z-Force driver and with over 400 rpm less spin, equating to over five yards more carry distance.

The Ezone Elite fairway wood (RRP £179) and hybrid (RRP £149) pictured above also boasts the Octaforce crown and clubface but in a shallower head design, which maximizes forgiveness and playability from different lies. A lower CG also helps get the ball up in the air more easily.

In the Ezone Elite irons (RRP £399 steel, £599 graphite (5-SW)) the Octaforce technology is found behind the clubface to increase the size of the sweetspot, assisted by a deeper undercut in the cavity. To maintain the same CG length and keep the same feel through the set, weight is distributed more on the toe-side on the shorter irons.

The Yonex Ezone Elite range goes on sale from December 2016.

The Yonex Ezone XPG HD driver has been unveiled, designed to offer golfers a higher, more draw-biased ball flight for more distance off the tee

Yonex, one of the pioneers of graphite technology in golf, has added a new model to its Ezone XPG driver range to compliment the existing models.

The Ezone XPG HD driver shares much of the same technology as the Ezone XPG model, but with a high draw capability instead of a neutral CG bias to help slower swing speed and slicers achieve more distance and accuracy off the tee.

Unusual Yonex Tri-Principle hybrid unveiled

This extra capability is thanks to a lower, deeper and more heel biased CG location created by a change in position of the tungsten sole weight.

Just like the Ezone XPG driver launched in Autumn last year, it features a Carbon Graphite Crown that saves weight, allowing for a lower and deeper centre of gravity. Yonex’s ‘Dual Tungsten Power’ – tungsten weighting in both the sole and top of the grip combined with a lightweight shaft, creates a light feeling club that should lead to increased swing speeds.

An 8g weight comes as standard in sole but weights that are available through a fitting include a 2g, 4g, 6g, 10g and 12g, depending on your shot shape and swing weight preferences, to compliment the 20g of tungsten found in the top of the grip.

The driver also features the Quick Adjust System on the hosel, meaning golfers can change the loft up or down by up to 1.5°.

Both the standard Ezone XPG driver and HD version will have an RRP of £289. The driver sits below the Yonex Tri-G range in terms of price point, and above the Z-Force line.

Two new Yonex N1 irons have been released in the form of the better player CB and MB models that utilise a graphite insert to improve feel and sound

Yonex has become known for its innovative use of graphite, and the brand's latest iron launch showcases one of its best uses to date.

The premium N1-MB irons are a set of forged blades with minimal offset for maximum workability, but rather than the traditional use of graphite in the shafts, Yonex instead uses it to create a vibration-dampening plate that is inserted behind the face.

This helps to reduce unwanted vibrations at impact, which heightens the feel off the face. By achieving this in a muscle-back head, Yonex could then make the profile slightly larger than you would normally find with a blade to inspire extra confidence.

Using graphite also saved weight, allowing the CG to move lower, which means the irons are also more forgiving than meets the eye.

Forgiveness levels have been increased further through a shaped 3D Sole that glides through the turf more smoothly, helping the head maintain its speed for more consistent distance hitting.

The new N1-MB irons feature the Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 125 steel shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip, and will set you back £1,400 for a set.

The second model within Yonex's premium iron range for 2016 is the Yonex N1-CB, more of a cavity back design that looks like a blade at address. It features the same graphite insert to dampen vibration and improve feel.

The N1-CB irons have an RRP of £1,199 (s) for 4-PW with the Nippon N.S. Pro 950GH oz or the Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 System Tour125 steel shaft as standard.

Sometimes equipment breakthroughs come after a brilliant lightbulb moment; at other times, they are down to building many different prototypes to try and achieve the smallest of gains in performance over the competition.

For Yonex, when creating the new Tri Principle hybrid’s distinctive diagonal grooves, it was this second way that led to a eureka moment.

The new 3S grooves – the three Ss being scoreline, slanted and spin stabiliser – yielded more consistent spin and distance control from a multitude of lies, a discovery Yonex’s R&D team only stumbled across during testing.

Elsewhere, an unusually shaped weight-saving cutaway from the crown helps to lower the centre of gravity (CG) to make it more forgiving and easier to launch higher. The CG axis has also been positioned more optimally compared with traditionally designed hybrids to help increase both speed and forgiveness.

The non-adjustable Tri Principle hybrid is available in 20°, 23.5° and 27° lofts, with the counterbalanced shafts getting heavier as they reduce in length moving towards the higher lofts for more consistent distance gapping, something Yonex refer to as Reverse Flow Weighting.

It features a propriety Yonex WFS 300 graphite shaft and is available now with an RRP of £180.

Aesthetics The EZONE Tri-G driver has a very premium, clean look at address with minimal distractions, setting it apart from the other drivers in its 2015 product line. The contrast between the dark crown and silver face helps alignment and sits square when you place it down behind the ball at address.

Shelf Appeal The understated look may mean it lacks the wow factor, but there’s a lot going on under the bonnet to create a level of intrigue. It has a futuristic aesthetic that, combined with the three sole weights, makes it feel like it’s a cutting-edge piece of kit.

Stock shafts The lightweight stock Nanometric NST310 shaft has plenty of kick to it through impact with low torque helping to impart more speed. It felt very stable and effortless to swing fast without losing control or awareness of the clubhead.

Head Technology We opted for the extra forgiveness in the 460cc version over the 445cc option. The carbon crown incorporates high modulus graphite enforced with high-grade nanometric material, which maintains strength while allowing the upper portion of the face to flex, creating more ball speed.

Adjustability The sole has three weight ports that house two 2g weights and one 12g weight. These weights are interchangeable, allowing you to alter the launch and spin. Placing the heavy weight in the port closest to the face reduces spin and launch ideal for fast swing speeds, while positioning it at the back of the head will increase spin and launch. Adjustable loft is available at the hosel.

Construction The Tri-G driver features a Concentric Weight System (CWS) whereby the three sole weights are positioned an equal distance from the shaft’s axis. This means that regardless of where you position the weights, the feel and balance remains the same.

Feel A powerful and explosive thud at impact was a joy to experience and just left me wanting to tee up another ball. The shaft works really well with the head to offer a light but balanced feel, meaning you can go hard at the ball while keeping dispersion relatively tight.

Flight Positioning the heavy weight closest to the face worked to keep the spin down. The result was a strong, rainbow ball flight that launched relatively high. This configuration will only work for above-average club speeds but once you’ve found the best spec for you after a fitting, the results will be seriously impressive.

Sound Unlike the irons in the EZONE Tri-G range, the sound of the driver was quite understated. There’s enough pop there to know when you’ve caught a shot out of the screws, but it’s not off-putting enough to turn heads for the wrong reasons.

Forgiveness Very impressive in the 460cc version. Mishits suffered the usual loss of feel but the flight remained relatively stable and just crept into the first cut of rough as opposed to straying significantly off line. This only enforces your mentality to go hard at the ball through impact knowing that help is at hand from the technology inside the clubhead as well as the shaft that matches it to a tee.

Key technology: The entire Z-Force range is designed with golfers who are struggling with their games very much in mind. The irons feature an undercut cavity for forgiveness and a deeper centre of gravity. This means that the lofts can be strengthened for added distance while the heads remain easier to hit. The graphite shaft is specifically designed to help get the ball up quickly.

Will suit: Anyone struggling with their current irons and looking for added forgiveness and distance.

The new Yonex Z-Force range - featuring a driver, fairway, hybrid and irons - has been unveiled in response to brand research claiming 75% of golfers don't break 90.

Based on this company research, which also revealed nearly 50% of golfers don't break 100, Yonex decided to go against the recent low spin, tour-inspired equipment trend and focus its new Z-Force line on improving performance for club golfers.

The key technology behind its new range then is lower and deeper centre of gravity (CG) positions throughout the woods and irons, which encourage easier and more forgiving launches to help improve distance and accuracy.

Yonex Z-Force driver

The Yonex Z-Force driver (£179) achieves this through its Octaforce Crown design, which reduces crown weight by 3 grams.

This allows engineers to place that weight lower and deeper, where it can help improve launch conditions - helping get the ball airbourne and providing added forgiveness.

The driver also features a Quick Adjust System – an adjustable hosel that's also compatible with Yonex’s i-Ezone and Ezone XP drivers.

It offers 1.5° of loft adjustments either way in 0.75° increments, allowing golfers to tune trajectories to find a more penetrating flight.

The Yonex M-60 shaft used also has a stronger tip that provides more stability and a more penetrating trajectory.

Yonex Z-Force fairway and hybrid

Like the driver, the Yonex Z-Force fairway (£129) and Z-Force hybrid (£99) feature new confidence- inspiring heads, and crown graphics that appear to increase their size at address.

Joining the woods, the Yonex Z-Force irons (5-SW £499 graphite and £349 steel) utilise a deep under cut in the cavity and strong lofts that move the weight further back.

This serves to deepen the centre of gravity and make the irons easier to launch.

The Yonex Z-Force irons also feature a thinner 3mm face that increases the trampoline effect for higher ball speeds, while the larger head size is designed to inspire confidence at address.

Key technology:

The ‘XP' stands for extra power, which has been achieved by increasing the weight of the head, but without making the swing weight heavier. A lighter shaft has been introduced, while the grip is weighted with 20 grams of tungsten powder in the butt end. This should increase swing speed without affecting the feel.

Will suit:

Players after a lightweight shaft, but with added control.

Aesthetics:

1) Address - this is very different to previous Yonex offerings, thanks to unique white and black colouring on the crown. The area near the face is white, while the back portion is black to improve alignment.

2) Shelf appeal - although the unusual crown colouring had the potential to look cheap, it achieves the exact opposite. It looks very classy, just as you would expect from a driver at this price point.

Components

3) Shaft options - The i-Ezone is available with either a Nanometric stock option or a Rexis NP (£50 extra). The Nanometric material is said to improve impact strength by 40 per cent for added stability, while the Rexis version is available in eight options, each designed to produce a different ball flight.

Technology

4) Adjustability - This is the brand's first ever adjustable driver. The face can be opened and closed to alter the trajectory of the ball, and the club can be set more upright than standard if desired.

5) Construction - The graphite crown has been reshaped to create a "cup-type" shape. This makes the crown lighter and, combined with the titanium body, shifts weight deeper in the head.

6) Weighting - To create a deeper centre of gravity, weight has been shifted to the side sole, allowing you to generate quicker swing speeds for powerful, longer drives.

Performance

7) Feel - With the stock shaft option we tested, the sound and feel off the head at impact is superb. It's crisp and powerful, with the high-end components clearly working very well together.

8) Flight - Yonex's Quick Adjust System allows you to refine the launch trajectory and face angle, although it doesn't have too much effect on ball flight. However, change the shaft and the difference is noticeable.

9) Distance - Although the i-Ezone features adjustability, the emphasis is still very much on producing a head and shaft combination that helps players to get the most out of each swing. The i-Ezone achieves this very well, offering impressive distance off the tee on our test.

10) Forgiveness - This is an area of major improvement compared to ?the brand's original Ezone driver. With the right shaft, the new i-Ezone will appeal to a wide range of golfers, thanks to the attractive looks and, most importantly, the performance on offer from shots that miss the middle of the clubface.

Key technology:

A new Half Cup Face Construction is designed to expand the hitting area, which should increase ball speeds through the set for more distance, as well as providing forgiveness on off-centre hits. Tungsten in the sole of the club enhances the forgiveness and control on offer, while a graphite plate behind the face improves ball flight and feel.

Will suit: players after a forgiving set of irons with great feel and shelf appeal.

Key technology:

The VXF irons feature a double undercut cavity, with the second cavity designed to increase power off the face and enlarge the size of the sweet spot. An elastomer backing on the face also removes unwanted vibrations and improves feel. The VXF hybrid is designed to blend into the iron set to produce consistent distance gapping through the set.

Will suit: Players looking for vastly improved consistency.

The headshape of the Yonex Ezone SD is much improved now that the pentagon shape has been replaced with a more traditional look. Shaft technology has also been improved since the VMX was released and has led to more consistent results, particularly on mishits.

The new Nanospeed 200 shaft is created by Yonex and designed to produce faster head speeds while reducing shaft deformation. This means added power and consistency.

While many are opting for lightweight grips the Yonex Ezone SD feels thick in comparison. This isn't a negative though and there is plenty of grip on offer in the rain.

The centre of gravity is precisely in the middle of the face. This helps to expand the sweet spot of the Yonex Ezone SD so that it covers more of the face. The face is also designed to be more powerful.

A lightweight, but strong, carbon graphite crown is combined with an inner-weighting system designed to produce a high flight while keeping spin down. This should increase distance.

Compared to some of the more outlandish designs on offer the Yonex Ezone SD won't be the first to catch the eye in store. Once spotted though, the black and red colour scheme has a high-quality finish.

A classic headshape that gives the impression there is plenty of loft behind the ball. The square leading edge helps to set the club on the intended line. The hosel blends the head into the shaft.

The Cyberstar XC's head design marries a steel body and face to a light graphite crown providing the ideal weight recipe for high, well-flighted, long-range shots.
