Titleist has today introduced a limited-edition Black Vapor finish on its Vokey Design SM10 wedges - possibly making one of the most sought-after clubs around even more popular.

The new Titanium Carbide Vapor finish is applied via a PVD treatment to ensure maximum durability against strikes while an FPP coating creates a smudge-resistant effect on the club head.

At the top of the club will be a custom black and silver Golf Pride Z-Grip Cord handle with BV Wings above a Dynamic Golf Onyx shaft and a BV Wings Black Vapor shaft label.

All 27 loft, bounce and grind combinations in the Vokey Design SM10 line - for both right and left-handed golfers - can be pre-ordered in the Black Vapor finish immediately, while an additional selection of loft, bounce and grind combinations are also available for purchase for right-handed players only.

Commenting on the new Black Vapor finish, master craftsman, Bob Vokey said: “A player has to love their wedge when they look down at it, and finish plays a key role. Having confidence in your wedge at address is hugely important.”

Titleist is keen to stress that the Black Vapor finish changes nothing about the club's performance - only its aesthetics - and it continues to be one of the best golf wedges on the market and the most popular choice for touring professionals.

The wedge specialists says its SM10 wedges will still feature optimised, progressive CG positions to achieve precision in distance and trajectory control as well as better feel and tighter dispersion from the top end to the bottom end of a player’s wedge setup, no matter their ability.

And for those who still don't feel their clubs are personalized enough, Vokey offers eight unique toe engravings, multiple stamping options, custom paint fill and a wide array of different shafts, grips and ferrules to complete the club.

Titleist Tour Soft Ball Review

The Titleist Tour Soft has always been an excellent all-rounder that offers soft feel at a lower price point. Our testing of the 2020 version has shown that it is a little bit faster off the tee than its predecessor, possibly because of the larger core and thinner cover, translating into extra carry distance. Admittedly it was by less than a handful of yards, but nevertheless there are gains to be had by switching.

Strike a shot out of the middle with Tour Soft and you are rewarded with a strong, stable flight with impressive hang time, even in windy conditions.

Despite still not possessing a urethane cover, we felt like it also gave us a little more touch more control around the greens with the wedges too while maintaining that soft feel many golfers enjoy. It doesn’t grab as much as the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, but the gap between them in terms of short game performance looks to have narrowed somewhat.

We also really like the new sidestamp design, with the T-shape provide an effective visual to line up your putter’s sightline and clubface to help return it square at impact more consistently.

We found it to be especially effective on those nervy putts from 3-6 feet but also off the tee as well. It’s ideal if you struggle to commit to your start line or struggle with your aim with the driver. The brighter finish versus the Pro V1 models makes the Tour Soft stand out visually over the ball, helping with strike and confidence.

Titleist T400 Iron Review

A wide body shape, along with the Split Sole design, provides optimal turf interaction for cleaner strikes. Up to 100g of tungsten in each head creates a low CG, working in combination with a super-thin forged SUP-10 L-Face insert (5- to 7-irons) to produce explosive launch. The set is progressive, with blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths changing through the set for optimal CG positioning and preferred shaping. 

As if the T300 iron wasn’t long enough, now golfers can achieve even more distance from the Titleist T-Series with the T400. It’s an iron with the firepower of a hybrid and at 26°, it has one of, if not the, strongest 7-iron lofts on the market. However, the design is such that it still produces a playable ball flight with exceptional forgiveness, both on off-centre strikes and through the ground at impact too.

From a visual perspective, as you can see below, the overall size and thicker topline makes it look inviting to hit. There is noticeable offset and the back of the sole on the 7-iron is visible at address, which some won’t like to see.

Testing on the Foresight Sports GCQuad launch monitor, the T400 7-iron produced fast ball speeds close to 130mph, with carries around 190 yards on average, making it a leading contender among the best golf distance irons. As you would expect, the spin sat comfortably under 5,000rpm, with a peak height of 34 yards, which is actually where we see many traditionally lofted 7-irons peaking at.

So despite its low loft, the T400 has no issue getting the ball in the air, helped by the softer and lighter stock AMT Red R300 shaft, hitting a flight window many golfers will already be familiar with.

The unique geometry of the split sole means it doesn’t play as wide as it looks and you get some assistance should you catch the ground slightly before the ball from the extra bounce close to the leading edge. There’s no question, this is one of the most forgiving irons on the market, even when considering the emergence of full hybrid-iron sets.

As is usually the case, right-handers have more options to choose from. Three U500 lofts remain - 17°, 20° and 23° - in regular or stiff flex, while the U510 is available in 20° or 23°.

For golfers seeking an alternative the TSi2 and TSi3 hybrids, Titleist has introduced the new U505 model in four loft options to replace the U500 and U510 models.

It is said to improving upon these prior models by featuring the evolved Max Impact 2.0 technology that features on the new T200 and T300 irons, as well as new denser D18 tungsten weights that deliver improved sound and feel with forgiveness and versatility.

Compared with the new T200, which has become the more compact utility iron option for the better player, the U505 is a wide-soled, high-launching utility club designed for the player who is looking to increase launch and speed from their long irons.

It possesses the faster face ever put on a Titleist utility iron thanks to a thinner forged L-Face and reconfigured hollow body with a core support structure and an enhanced high resilience polymer core.

These design features are assisted by denser D18 tungsten weights and a brazing process used in aerospace construction that concentrates weight more efficiently and be even more precise with CG placement. In the U505 utility iron, that meant sliding it lower and towards the heel, where tour pros and better players felt it improved launch dynamics the most.

Based on U510 player input, the U505 was designed with a shorter blade length and shallower face but kept the wide sole to maintain all of the performance advantages while moving towards a look that feels more in line with an irons set.

Titleist has updated four models within its impressive T-Series of irons - the T100, T100s, T200 and T300 - with new features to enhance the appeal for varying abilities of golfer, ranging from tour pro to the mid-to-high handicapper.

The new T100 continues as the modern tour iron, aimed at the better player seeking feel, precision and workability. A key change in the design comes from the use of denser tungsten weights in the heel and toe of the 3-7-irons (80g on average per club) helped by a new brazing process that eliminates weld points to be even more precise with CG placement.

This optimises launch while increasing forgiveness and improving feel. The 8-PW are one-piece forgings from soft 1025 carbon steel for the ultimate in feel.

Titleist also worked with the Vokey wedge team to refine the sole shape, developing a variable bounce design with less bounce in the heel and more bounce in the toe, that gets the club exiting the ground quicker for a better ball striking experience.

Like the prior model, the T100s continues to provide feel and precision but with extra distance thanks to two degrees stronger lofts but with the same turf interaction and versatility golfers expect from a tour-shaped head.

It shares many of the same design features as the T100, including the heavier tungsten weights, but also boasts a Muscle Channel in the longer irons that increases ball speed and launch while preserving control and stopping power.

For golfers that want to look down on something a little larger, the T200 is the next step up in terms of distance and forgiveness. It represents the biggest shift within the T-Series family with 10 different patents utilized, testament to the technology packed into the head.

The next generation Max Impact 2.0 feature now includes a core support design and an enhanced high resilience polymer core that improves both off-centre speed and mass efficiency at impact across a forged, high COR SUP-10 L-Face Insert.

The cavity of the iron is now enclosed with a muscle plate said to contribute to tuning the sound and feel of the iron while also saving weight in the new streamlined chassis.

A shorter blade length, less offset (same as T100), narrower topline and thinner sole, provides a tour-inspired look and feel while delivering maximum speed and distance, helped once again by the denser tungsten weights in the 3-7 irons.

The T200 also comes in lower lofts (17°, 20° and 22°) with the same technology to double as a compact utility iron option for the better player.

Finally, we have the new T300, billed as the ultimate game improvement iron. Updated Max Impact 2.0, comprising a Cantilever Core Support Structure features a new high resilience polymer core, is joined by a new variable face thickness (VFT) design that is thinner in the heel maximises speed across it for distance.

Use of 40 percent more tungsten improves CG placement for optimal launch, spin and high MOI. There’s also size a new chrome plated finish provides a premium look.

Titleist Unveils New 'Home Of Performance' In The UK

Titleist has revealed its new home of performance in Europe, which is now ready to welcome dedicated golfers of all level for the ultimate fitting experience.

The Titleist Performance Centre at Woburn, which is its new home of Tour Player support in Europe, replicates much of the unrivalled offering of the Titleist Performance Institute in California.

Including state of the art analysis equipment and the same tee-to-green performance evaluation available to the world’s best golfers, the new Performance Centre will provide golfers with the ultimate Tour level experience to find the best Titleist equipment for their game.

Since breaking ground in October 2019, Titleist has worked with the Woburn team and sculpted the 10-acre site into the ultimate performance facility that comprises 2,000 square metres of teeing area and a 370-yard fairway with a large S-shaped green to offer multiple shots and pin placements.

This is accompanied by a state-of-the-art performance centre building featuring two product fitting bays, a bespoke club building workshop and a stunning brand boardroom.

Titleist has joined the Rugby League World Cup list of partners and is launching a range of licensed golf balls as part of the partnership.

Titleist has announced a partnership with Rugby League World Cup 2021 to provide official personalised golf ball for the event that will be taking place across England between October 23rd and November 27th 2021.

As a licensed partner to the tournament, Titleist will give golfers the chance to add the tournament logo or any of the participating teams' marks to its range of golf balls via the My Titleist platform.

The range which will be able to be personalised with Rugby League World Cup 2021 logos and team crests are the premium Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX as well as the Tour Speed, Tour Soft, Velocity and TruFeel golf balls.

Everything about this is straight out of the top drawer: the looks, sound, adjustability and the very precise nature about what this club can do and what you want it to do.

There are three hybrids in the TSi range and this one is directed at the stronger player. Titleist sees hybrids as scoring rather than rescue clubs and this is particularly prevalent here with the ability to really fine-tune the shot shape that you’re after.

The TSi3 made it into our best golf hybrids list, as well the Editor's Choice list, after we loved it in our testing.

The more compact and squarer toed head shape of the TSi3 was inspired by input from Webb Simpson and Charley Hoffman, who wanted something between a utility iron and a smaller headed hybrid, and this is the result - a club that will help the player who hits down on the ball like you would an iron.

Quite amusingly, the TSi2 hybrid is described by Titleist as the ‘workhorse’ hybrid whereas this is more of a thoroughbred.

Top-notch Adjustability

Similar to the rest of the range there is the ability to manipulate adjustability towards the heel or toe along while the SureFit Hosel Technology provides 16 independent loft and lie settings plus headweight adjustability. So, whether you want to increase or decrease loft, add a degree upright or make the club flatter, you can do it here.

Titleist has long since led the hybrid usage on the PGA Tour and, while there is all the talk of getting properly fitted for your driver and irons, there should be no difference with your hybrids, particularly when there are more and more going in the tour stars’ bags.

To complete the excellent picture the shaft options here are really strong and, finally, the muted (in a good way) sound should be music to your ears.

The TSi3 only comes in two lofts; 18˚ and 20˚ but there is plenty of scope to move things around to achieve the distance and trajectory you are looking for.

If you bring out a driver with an RRP of over £500, you need to make sure it performs. Thankfully for Titleist, we found that the TSi3 driver truly delivered on all fronts.

In our full review of the Titleist TSi3, we found this driver is worth every penny in the right hands and is one of the best golf drivers for distance.

Not only did we enjoy what TSi3 offered, but so have the tour players. In fact, some of the best players in the world who aren’t even Titleist contracted players have opted to put one in the bag, which speaks volumes as to the appeal of this driver.

One of the key reasons for its success is the clubface, which is made from an exotic material called ATI 425 never before used in golf. Made in small quantities only in the US, it is an aerospace grade titanium with very high strength-to-weight ratio and elasticity and durability properties versus conventional titanium alloys. This makes it ideal to feature in the face of a driver to provide speed as well as robustness.

Built for speed

Added speed is the first thing you’ll notice as soon as you test TSi3 up against your current driver, be it ball speed but also club speed from the new crown shaping reducing aerodynamic drag.

The looks have improved considerably as well, with Titleist taking on board feedback from its tour players to create a more compact, traditional shape with a more rounded toe section.

The TSi3 has a slightly more dense sound, which really oozes power, and the new SureFit CG Track positioned around the rear skirt of the driver has five positions for the 8g weight to slot into to help promote or negate a certain shot shape. We also like how the sole weight setting is now visible so you can always see what setting it is in for piece of mind, something you couldn’t do with TS3.

There’s no question, the TSi3 is one of the longest drivers you’ll test in 2021 while being extremely forgiving too. If you go through a custom fitting, it’s near enough guaranteed to blow your current model out of the water.

The Titleist TSi2 fairway wood was designed to be long, forgiving and high launching and it certainly delivers this on all fronts.

Titleist has introduced the fourth generation of its ARC technology in the TSi2 and it is a clever channel that sits behind the leading edge to deliver greater flex across the face at impact and faster ball speeds. This, alongside the low, deep centre of gravity makes for a club that is easy to launch and forgiving.

Easy to hit

When we tested the TSi2, we found the consistency of ball flight one of the most pleasing things about this club. As with most fairway woods, strike locations tend to vary quite a lot as it is a difficult type of club to hit, but with the TSi2 we found distances and flights were impressively consistent regardless of where we struck it on the face.

The ease of flight allowed us to loft the club down from where we’d normally have a 3-wood, resulting in more distance without any loss of ball flight or strike consistency.

The contact sound the TSi2 makes is very satisfying too and an underrated part of what makes a great fairway wood. It is powerful without being too dull and doesn’t make you feel like you have to swing the club hard to get the ball in the air.

Precise adjustability

As with all Titleist drivers and woods, the TSi2 comes with SureFit adjustability on the hosel giving you 16 different combinations of loft and lie angle. While this certainly sounds like an overwhelming amount of options, it allows you to find an exact fit to suit your game and give precise performance from whichever loft you choose.

A classic, clean and more compact profile rounds off this excellent fairway wood suitable for pretty much all golfers after a fairway wood that is long and forgiving.

It’s over 20 years now since Pro V1 first appeared on the scene, and its dominance on the world’s tours ever since has been such that Titleist has never yet been tempted to replace the name.

That’s not to say much hasn’t changed under, and indeed, in its urethane bonnet in the latest biennial upgrade. This 2021 incarnation features an all-new design promising more greenside spin, a softer feel and a higher, more consistent flight via changes to every layer.

Principle among these are a core reformulated for greater distance, an increase in the dimple count from 352 to 388 for a more consistent flight, and a new softer urethane elastomer cover for enhanced short-game performance.

Consistently Long And Straight

In our testing we detected slightly greater differences between the Pro V1 and sister Pro V1x than in previous generations. The Pro V1 spins a little less and flies noticeably lower than the new Pro V1x on a consistently long and straight flight. We were seriously impressed with the strength and consistency of the flight, particularly in the wind.

Of course, that’s not to say you can’t flight it when you need to – with a 7-iron we achieved plenty of flight and good control coming into the greens. Closer to the green, that new, softer cover helps to deliver impressive levels of feel, spin and control.

The Pro V1 doesn’t top the tour ball counts week in, week out for nothing. The world’s top players demand the very best in all-round performance, and this latest model delivers just that via a blend of impressive long-game distance, excellent control into the greens and high levels of consistency, all with a slightly softer feel. What more could you want from a golf ball?

To be fair, the excellent SM8 designs, which featured in our best golf wedges guide, were available in a pretty comprehensive palette anyway, with Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel, Jet Black and Raw already on the colour chart, so why the new option?

Enhanced Durability

For the honest answer, we turned to the man himself, Bob Vokey: “Very often, wedge finishes can be beautiful, but they won’t last. At the same time, the most durable finishes often aren’t stunning. Slate Blue combines the two. Not only will golfers love the wedge when they see it in the shop, the finish will last through the course of play.”

The ultra-premium look is created in the same way as a PVD finish, but with a unique material and more time-intensive process providing a deep, rich slate blue colour that is extremely durable. It looks good on the shelf, and stays looking good for longer.

Stunning Looks

Wedge looks are important to every golfer, but it obviously has to work too. With Vokey’s exceptional tour validation, there are no worries on that front. Titleist says the SM8 is the most accurate and forgiving Vokey wedge to date, and we would tend to agree, even though we loved our SM7s.

The key to the SM8’s consistency is a forward shift in the centre of gravity to a position that actually hovers in front of the wedge face. This boosts MOI (by up to seven per cent in the higher lofts) for a more solid feel, and a clubface that feels easier to square through impact.

It definitely works for us as shown by our full review, and the new slate blue finish, available in all 23 loft, bounce and grind options, is simply gorgeous.

Titleist’s ball range ladder has a couple of extra rungs compared to most and Tour Speed, which launched late last year, is an intriguing addition. It seeks to fill the middle ground between Pro V1 and Tour Soft in the quest for near-premium performance at a lower price point.

We think it does that well, and in our full review, we found it to be an excellent alternative.

Admittedly, Tour Speed sits at the upper end of the best mid-price golf ball market, but just how does it deliver all that performance? Well, its three-piece design blends a new high-speed core with a fast ionomer mid-layer to boost ball speeds and keep spin down for optimum long-game distance.

At the other end of the hole, a new urethane cover brings excellent greenside spin and control with soft feel. And if soft feel is your thing, this could be just the ball for you. In our testing, Tour Speed offered more greenside control than Tour Soft, while its softer feel is noticeable all the way from driver down to putter compared to the Pro V1.

No Real Weaknesses

While this buttery soft feel may not be right for all, it’s hard to really find any weaknesses in this ball other than chip shots perhaps running out a little more.

Off the tee, it held its own in illustrious company with no real difference in ball flight that we could discern up against the Pro V1x. And on iron shots, it seemed to fly a little further and carry up to half a club longer throughout the set.

Our overall verdict is that Tour Speed provides excellent, near-tour ball performance from tee-to-green at a slightly lower price, making it a great value option if premium prices are not your thing.

Further proof that the boundaries are gradually becoming more blurred between tour-calibre models and those sitting just below them in the golf ball world pecking order.

Titleist always produces great looking irons and the T300 is no exception. Although it features all the tech you would expect from a game improvement cavity back iron, a thinner top line and less offset keep the styling classic.

Distance Machine

During testing for our full review, we found the ball to come off the clubface of the T300 faster than the old 718 AP1 (which the T300 effectively replaced) but we also enjoyed the sound – not so clicky as some game improvement irons tend to be.

It’s relatively low spinning and produces a nice rainbow flight. We found it to be consistent in terms of distance produced, the stronger lofts certainly help where that’s concerned. We also found the T300 nice and forgiving when struck just off centre.

They are a great option for improving players seeking a little more distance and consistency – A distance machine with a classic look.

Titleist has launched its new stand bag range for 2021, a total of six new models across its Players and Hybrid Collection.

There are four new models in the Titleist Players collection of stand bags - the Players 4 Plus Stadry, Players 4 Stadry, Players 4 Plus and Players 4 - all offering feature-rich designs for dedicated golfers seeking a lightweight stand bag without sacrificing storage or durability.

The Players 4 Plus is a slightly bigger bag than the Players 4 but both come in a fully waterproof Stadry option for golfers who play in all conditions.

The Titleist TSi1 and TSi4 drivers launched today as well as the TSi1 fairway wood should allow even more golfers to benefit from Titleist's new technologies

Titleist TSi1 and TSi4 Drivers Launched

As impressive as the Titleist TSi2 and Titleist TSi3 driver are, they won't be fully optimisable for every golfer. Which is why the range has today been expanded with the launch of two new models aiming to cater for every player type.

The Titleist TSi1, similar to what we saw with the previous TS1 driver, is the lightweight option engineered for the moderate (less than 90 mph) swing speed player seeking increased club and ball speed with control off the tee. 

The 460cc TSi1 is almost 40g lighter than standard drivers. It is high launching with mid spin and is the most draw-biased Titleist driver available through its CG positioning. By reshaping the head, engineers were able to move the CG closer to the centre of the face, which results in more ball speed versus the outgoing TS1.

Another option golfers can soon choose is the Titleist TSi4 driver, which is already in the bag of Adam Scott and engineered to be a high-speed, ultra-low spin design.

The TSi4's Centre of Gravity (CG) is the lowest in the TSi family of drivers and it is also the most forward. That allows the driver to deliver less dynamic loft and less spin at impact, providing low spin.

A higher MOI versus TS4 also contributes to a higher launch, overall trajectory, and produces more distance for that target player. At 430cc, with a very classic, small pear-shaped profile and improved sound and feel, the TSi4 is also the most workable of all TSi drivers.

Both new drivers features the ATI 425 Aerospace Titanium Face, initially developed for ballistic armour applications and has since been used in many aerospace and commercial aircraft solutions, including jet engines and NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander. Titleist is the only company in golf that uses this material. 

Titleist is also launching a lightweight TSi1 fairway wood for the first time alongside the driver.

It is almost 50 grams lighter than standard fairway metals, accomplished by taking 10 grams of weight out of the head while maintaining the MOI at the same level as the TSi2 fairways.

This is from the CG depth being positioned further back, which contributes to higher launch. Like the driver, lightening up the overall weight for fairway metals delivers the club speed, brings more ball speed, and gives that player a lot more playability and consistency.

“With the new TSi1 driver, we focused on how to deliver even more speed than we did with the original TS1 for that player,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist Director of Metalwood Development.

“Not only does it deliver incredible trajectory, but it also maximises the ball speed. And with its lightweight configuration, all those golfers are going to experience greater consistency, as well as maximising their club speed.”

The new Titleist TSi1 and TSi4 drivers plus the TSi1 fairway metals will be available for pre-sale now and on sale from March 15th with the following RRPs: drivers £519, fairways £279.

The new Titleist TSi hybrids unveiled today comprise three new models to suit a variety of players in terms of preferences in ball flight, feel and looks.

Joining the Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 drivers and fairways in 2021 is the TSi hybrid range, comprising three models to cater for all player types seeking versatility and playability on long approach shots and testing tee shots.

Titleist has consistently promoted hybrids as scoring clubs as opposed to rescue clubs and the new TSi1, TSi2 and TSi3 hybrids hope to elevate the user experience from what we saw in the TS models with more distinct looks, improved adjustability and more more varied performance characteristics.

All three hybrids feature a thin, fast face, optimised weight distribution and the SureFit hosel to adjust loft and lie independently.

The forgiving TSi2 is the ‘workhorse’ hybrid, maximising performance by providing high launch and easy distance for players with a sweeping delivery. The larger, classic profile is designed for players who prefer the look of a fairway metal.

The TSi3 hybrids are distinctly different in looks, adjustability and performance from the TSi2. Designed with a compact iron-like profile, squarer toe and very little face progression, the TSi3 hybrids are designed for players who hit down on the golf ball.

They feature a similar SureFit CG Track Technology system as the new TSi3 fairway metals, allowing the ability to manipulate adjustability towards the toe (T) or heel (H) aside from Neutral (N). After adjustment, the new track design disappears into the sole of the club to allow for smooth turf interaction through impact.

A previously unseen member of the Titleist hybrid family is the TSi1, which has an even larger ‘wood-type’ profile engineered to deliver high launch and mid-spin. It also features a 455 Carpenter Steel Forged Face but has a deeper CG for high MOI and exceptional stability and speed across the face.

The Titleist TSi1 hybrids range in lofts from 20º to 29º and from clubhead to grip have been engineered 20g lighter than the other hybrids and with a slight draw bias to deliver maximum launch and distance at moderate swing speeds.

On all TSi hybrids, the play and loft number has been inscribed near the hosel for clarity.

The Titleist TSi hybrids go on sale March 15th with an RRP of £245.

“Since we started giving tours of Ball Plant 3 a few years ago, we’ve had golfers from around the country and many corners of the world visit to see how their Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls are made,” Jeremey Stone, Vice President of Titleist Golf Ball Marketing said.

“While we look forward to the day that we can safely welcome visitors back to BP3 [Ball Plant 3], we’re excited that golfers everywhere now have the opportunity to go behind the scenes of our process, learn how their golf ball is made from core to cover, and see everything out R&D and Operations teams are doing to earn their trust on every single shot.”

On the virtual tour, golfers will go on the same journey that major champions like Adam Scott, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth have been on when they’ve visited Titleist’s Ball Plant 3 facility in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Adam Scott: "I think the most surprising thing I took away from touring the plant is how tight the tolerance levels are in making the golf ball and how strenuous the checks are to make sure there is very little variation ball to ball."

The new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls revealed today for 2021 promise more short game spin and a higher, more consistent ball flight

Two years has passed since Titleist refreshed the number one ball in golf and is 2021 the brand is launching the latest version of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x that promises to elevate the performance of one of the best premium balls in golf in the form of more greenside spin, a softer feel and a higher, more consistent flight.

It has achieved this by making changes to every layer, three in Pro V1 and four layers in Pro V1x, that work together to create the best all-round performance for tour players and amateurs alike.

It all starts with the 2.0 ZG Process Core, which once again has been reformulated to deliver increased distance in the solid core Pro V1 and dual core ProV1x.

Titleist has also implemented the faster ionomer High-Flex casing layer we saw on the Pro V1x Left Dash option, which adds speed and lowers long game spin.

But arguably the biggest changes on both the balls can be found on the cover. For the first time since 2011, Titleist has changed the dimple pattern to allow the balls to fly higher and more consistently.

On Pro V1, the number of dimples increases from 352 to 388, while on Pro V1x it goes up to 348 from 328. Titleist tested over 60 iterations of dimple patterns for Pro V1 to find the one that maximised distance and flight consistency.

Pro V1 maintains its penetrating trajectory and softer feel while Pro V1x will fly higher than the prior generation with more spin than Pro V1.

On both balls, the Cast Urethane Elastomer cover material has also been made even softer to increase greenside spin for more control in the short game.

Tour take up and validation has been rapid, with Brian Gay winning for the first time in seven years after switching in the new ball while leading players, including Justin Thomas and Adam Scott have already put the new versions in play.

The Pro V1 and Pro V1x are available in white (play numbers 1-4, 5-8 and all the same play number 00 or 1-99) and High Optic Yellow pictured above (play numbers 1-4).

You’ll notice a new sidestamp design and golfers can choose an enhanced alignment version with lines on either side on white balls in play numbers 1-4.

The Titleist TSi fairway woods share many of the design updates featured on the driver, including a more streamlined shape, a promise of more distance and in the case of the TSi3 a more compact profile behind the ball.

In fact, both the TSi3 and TSi2 fairway wood look smaller than the outgoing TS options behind the ball, which may not inspire the most confidence but they do look like they’re going to get the ball up in the air a little more easily.

The TSi3 has an adjustable sole weight system similar to that of the TSi3 driver in that a 12g weight can be moved into T (toe) or H (heel) positions away from neutral to alter the shot shape.

Again, it’s nice that this weight is now visible and that the mechanism that holds the weight in place sits absolutely flush to the rest of the sole so turf interaction isn’t effected. That said, we did find dirt gathered in the unused slots and it was difficult to remove.

This minor inconvenience aside, the TSi3 fairway really impressed. We were custom fitted for it and while we hit some more than decent shots with our current Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero fairway wood to set some base numbers, the TSi3's SureFit CG Track system once again unlocked extra performance. It naturally helped to straighten out our ball flight without completely overhauling our natural tendencies.

We swung the TSi3 a touch faster too, producing more ball speed and a little more spin helping keep the ball in the air for longer. It was four yards longer on average but it was the grouping of the shots with the TSi3 that was the standout takeaway.

You could throw a blanket over my shots with the TSi3 while the Mavrik SZ seemed erratic by comparison. Always take results from a fitting with a slight pinch of salt (it’s a fitter’s job to improve performance) and the Mavrik SZ wasn’t fitted, but it still showed what was possible with a fully optimised, modern-day fairway wood.

It was the shots from low on the face that also stood. Where they can tend to be spinny and weak, with TSi3 they stayed in the air for longer and ball speeds were more consistent, ideal for shots off the deck you don't strike cleanly.

The feel really stood out as well. Out of the middle, this fairway wood feels fantastic. Fast, explosive and stable and that is similar when you just miss the sweetspot too, it just leaves you wanting to hit another ball.

More than two years since the initial TS driver range was launched and then subsequently added to, Titleist has unveiled its new TSi2 and TSi3 drivers.

The 'i' stands for impact, innovation and inertia because the company has made some significant design changes to increase the club speed, ball speed and forgiveness of the drivers.

Firstly, a new crown shaping is said to reduce aerodynamic drag by up to 15 per cent versus the TS drivers to help increase clubhead speed while a softer toe section is the product of tour player feedback.

The clubface inserts themselves are made of an exotic material called ATI 425. Made in the US, it is an aerospace grade titanium used in applications such as NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander and jet engines because of its high strength-to-weight ratio and elasticity and durability properties versus conventional titanium alloys used in golf. Every TSi driver head is CT tested in multiple locations to make sure performance is at the maximum allowable limit.

Titleist TSi2 Driver Review

Titleist has also improved the inertia of the driver, especially in the top-to-bottom direction, to provide more consistently high ball speed and lower, more stable spin rates.

There are two models to choose from initially, with further options to be added to the line next year. The TSi2 features a low and deep centre of gravity for speed and accuracy across the face thanks to a fixed flat 9g weight at the rear.

The TSi3 features a more compact, pear-shaped profile and a new SureFit CG Track positioned around the rear skirt of the driver. It has five positions for the 8g weight to slot into, ranging from H2 (most heel/draw biased) to T2, to alter the shot shape and launch characteristics of the driver.

The weight position is now visible when in position, unlike the cartridge that was hidden in TS3, and because it is positioned at the very back, it increases the stability on off-centre hits.

In both drivers, a fitter can alter the moveable weight by +/- 4g to adjust the head weights as well the 16 independent loft and lie settings on the Surefit hosel.

As well as featured shafts like Kuro Kage, HZRDUS and Tensei, three premium options from Graphite Design are available with a £170 upcharge.

The Titleist TSi fairway woods also boast a new aerodynamic shape as well as ARC 4.0, a channel behind the face with shorter walls to provide more face flex, higher launch, lower more consistent spin and increased ball speed.

Just like the drivers, the TSi2 fairway is more players that want high launch and maximum forgiveness while the TSi3 fairway has a smaller profile with a deeper face as well as the SureFit CG Track comprising three positions for a 12g weight to slot into - H1, Neutral or T1.

Fittings for the Titleist TSi metalwoods commence on October 22nd and the clubs go on general sale from November 12th with the following RRPs: drivers £519, fairways £279.

The 2020 version of the AVX builds on a strong first iteration with a construction that’s designed to combine distance and very soft feel in a premium package that sits as a lower flying and spinning alternative to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

Titleist say it’s able to do all this because of the larger core, thinner cover and aerodynamic dimple design (the dimples are noticeably different in size and shape than on most other balls) creating a lower, stronger flight.

We tested the ball on a windy links course and it certainly lived up to that billing. The flight was reassuringly stable, and it cut through the wind nicely without losing much yardage into the draft. It also felt like you maintained the control and spin into the greens.

That thinner and more flexible urethane cover is important as well because this new version feels a bit softer and spinnier than the first version on finesse shots and putting around and on the greens. You still get that lovely ‘click’ sound with a good impact and enough spin for those delicate recovery shots.

It’s also worth noting that the durability was impressive. We played a few rounds and any noticeable marks on the ball were few and far between – it’s more likely that you’ll lose one before it needs replacing because of scrapes and scuffs. We tested the white version, but it’s also available in yellow.

The AVX does what it’s supposed to, but the fact it fits into the range alongside the Pro V1 and Pro V1x means it isn’t going to be the optimum choice for everyone. If you’re looking to bring your flight down and reduce spin without sacrificing noticeable performance around the greens, it’s an excellent option. However, golfers who already launch the ball quite low and generate spin at the lower end of the spectrum might not benefit from switching.

The emergence of premium, luxury golf brands like PXG has paved the way for more mainstream manufacturers to provide something that offers a little extra with no expense spared. For Titleist, this takes the form of its CNCPT iron range.

The two original CNCPT irons, the CP-01 and CP-02, were launched in April last year and the new irons have the same goal of producing “the most satisfying ball-striking experience imaginable”. The CP-02 irons carry over from last year but Titleist has added two new models this time around to cater for more golfers.

The new CP-03 and CP-04 have been constructed from exotic, high-performance materials that can take up to eight months just to source. Each part has been forged and cast to extreme limits of precision for supreme ball speed with ideal launch and high levels of forgiveness.

All three models feature a forged Super Metal L-Face insert, which is said to be the thinnest unsupported constant-thickness face in golf. It is made from a rare, super-strong alloy for extremely high ball speeds, with increased launch in the mid- and long-irons.

The multi-material, hollow-body design allows for optimised MOI and CG placement in every iron through the set. A large amount of high-density tungsten weighting – making up nearly 50 per cent of the total head weight in the lower lofts – provides precise sweetspot calibration and greater clubhead stability.

The CP-03 provides a balance of power and control in a progressive mid-size muscleback profile with minimal offset. Meanwhile, the CP-04 has the same lofts as the old CP-01, but delivers more speed and enhanced accuracy in a player’s improvement head shape with more offset. All three can be easily combined within a set.

The Titleist CNCPT irons are available for fittings and custom order now with an RRP of £500 per club.

Titleist Tour Speed Ball Review

An intriguing option from Titleist, seemingly blending characteristics of both Pro V1 and Tour Soft to create something in the middle.

We gave the Tour Speed ball a thorough test over 9 holes, comparing it on every shot faced with our current Pro V1x ball as well as the Pro V1 to see how they compared in terms of distance, ball flight, control and feel.

Visually, on close inspection, the Tour Speed does have a slightly duller, more off-white finish compared to the Pro V1s along with a larger, more bolded logo but any differences in dimple pattern are impossible to spot.

Off the tee, the Tour Speed kept up admirably with our Pro V1x with no obvious differences in the flight. With the irons it was a slightly different story, as the Tour Speed seemed to fly a little higher and on average was around 3-5 yards longer in carry through the set.

Around the green, it was difficult to tell any major differences in the balls. Perhaps the Tour Speed ran out a touch more on chip shots but there really wasn’t much in it.

Tour Speed definitely provides more green side control than Tour Soft but maintains a similarly soft feel. In fact, it was noticeable that Tour Speed provides a much softer feel on all shots from driver all the way down to putter than the Pro V1s.

The Pro V1s feels solid and faster while the Tour Speed feels a little more jumpy, especially with wedges and the putter. On the greens, this produced a quieter sound but the ball still ran out a similar distance.

Tour Speed’s arrow-based alignment mark, with smaller arrows making up one large double-ended arrow, does a good job at assisting with aim on the greens but one could argue a solid black line would be more effective.

The new drivers were spotted recently at the Safeway Open and Portugal Masters and have caused quite the stir.

Titleist TSi Drivers Spotted

With the PGA Tour and European Tour about to host the Safeway Open and Portugal Masters respectively, the world of golf was introduced at both events to some new gear in what looks to be the Titleist TSi drivers and fairway woods.

“Over the next few days, Titleist Tour Representatives on site at both the Silverado Resort in Napa, California, and the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Algarve, Portugal, will be working with players on the range, fitting them into the new TSi driver models,” Titleist said in a press release.

We are yet to confirm exactly what the 'i' in the name means in the new clubs but there are some clear design differences compared to the current TS drivers.

It appears the TSi2 will be the model that prioritises forgiveness and high MOI, just like the TS2, with a fixed rear weight.

We expect the TSi3 will be the lower launching and spinning model with additional adjustability. However that adjustability looks to be taking a different form from the TS3 as the SureFit CG weight bar appears to have been replaced by an adjustable weight track at the rear of the crown with five weight positions - T2, T1, N, H1 and H2.

Both models appear to have retained the SureFit hosel technology in some shape or form.

Additionally, there is something called “ATI” printed on the driver faces, so it will be interesting to find out the design characteristics of this and all the other new innovations.

Both models are very striking to look at because of the glossy finish, new sole designs, new graphics on the face and there is also a new alignment aid on the crown which takes the form of the word 'TSi' replacing the customary Titleist triangle design.

Ian Poulter also shared images on his Instgram story, including one of the new TSi2 fairway wood.

It shows an ARC channel behind the face, which has previously stood for Active Recoil Channel, and has a lighter finish on the sole.

We expect many Titleist players to start putting these clubs in the bag in the coming weeks, we will of course update you with any information on these clubs as soon as we receive it.

Titleist has announced the T-Series T100S and T200 irons, along with the Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges, will be available for a limited time in a new black finish to give them a stealthy aesthetic that will make many people at your local club very jealous indeed.

The T100 S and T200 Black irons are finished with a sleek High Polish Black PVD coating continually requested by tour players and members of the Team Titleist community. Each model is complemented by a glare-reducing matte black shaft, (Project X LZ Onyx or DG Onyx AMT Black), and an all-black Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip.

Titleist claims its new Tour Speed ball, with its three-piece construction and urethane cover, is the fastest, best-performing golf ball in its category

Titleist is set to introduce the new Tour Speed golf ball, claiming to be the fastest, best-performing golf ball in its category.

Tour Speed is a three-piece design, delivering a combination of distance in the long game and precise short game scoring control.

It features a new high-speed core formulation, combined with a fast ionomer casing layer, contributing to increased speed and low long game spin for maximum distance.

Some of this distance also comes from the new 346 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design that provides penetrating flight with tight dispersion.

It also boasts a proprietary thermoplastic urethane (TPU) cover specifically formulated by R&D chemists, generating greenside spin for short game scoring control with soft feel. A new arrow-based sidestamp design looks to help with alignment in the greens.

Titleist conducted a three-month R&D market test in the United States and Canada with the experimental golf ball EXP•01, a prototype created during the development process for what has now become Tour Speed, as well as a performance study of amateur golfers evaluating Tour Speed prototypes versus a wide range of current Titleist and competitive golf ball models.

“Our golf ball scientists and engineers have gone to extraordinary lengths in the development of Tour Speed – testing numerous core formulations and aerodynamic patterns, while formulating and analysing hundreds of TPU cover blends,” Michael Mahoney, Vice President of Golf Ball Marketing for Titleist, told GM.

“We have made every investment necessary in these new technologies, including a significant expansion of our manufacturing facility and process.”

It looks like the Tour Speed will sit within Titleist's range under the Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX and above Tour Soft in terms of all-round performance.

The new Titleist Tour Speed is available to purchase from September 11th with an RRP of £40 per dozen.

Titleist has expanded the grinds available on the Vokey SM8 wedges with the addition of the T-Grind to its Wedgeworks platform

New Vokey SM8 T-Grind Added To Titleist Wedgeworks Platform

Titleist has added to its Wedgeworks custom service in the UK with the Tour-proven Vokey Design SM8 T-Grind – already a staple in the bags of major champions Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

This follows on from the recent addition of a purpose built dedicated wedge ‘cell’ at Titleist’s European HQ in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, that allows the manufacturer to meet the growing demand for customised or unique bounce and grind requirements from the SM8.

The Wedgeworks platform is an opportunity for brand fans and dedicated golfers to choose from a range of custom grinds, bounces, finishes and lofts to suit their game – in addition to personalisation options such as stamping, paint filling and hand grinding, alongside bespoke ‘BV’ grips and shafts.

The new T-Grind offers a versatile low bounce option in both 58 and 60°. Ideal for a shallow angle of attack in firm conditions, it has proven popular with players in Europe, who are more often faced with links-style conditions.

The latest addition to the SM8 range joins the Low Bounce K, which has been available in the UK since May, offering another low bounce option tailored to amateur golfers who favour a wide, cambered sole that provides maximum forgiveness on greenside shots and out of the bunker.

All modern-day wedges offer high levels of spin but this doesn’t always translate into hitting shots closer to the hole. But in the case of the SM8, Bob Vokey and his team have updated the design to do exactly that.

Via longer hosels and tungsten toe weighting, Titleist claim to have shifted the Centre of Gravity so dramatically that it actually encourages the clubface to return to impact in a squarer position. Provided you’ve implemented the correct length of swing and achieved a half-decent strike, this should mean that your dispersion around the hole will tighten, leaving you with a more makeable putt.

Our testing showed that SM8 wedges are especially accurate from a variety of distances and while it was difficult to tell if the updated technology was the deciding factor, the results speak for themselves. The looks have improved too, with a beautiful muscleback design featuring across the entire loft range.

Another standout feature is the feel. Despite being a cast wedge, the Vokey SM8 provides a buttery soft feel that inspires feelings of control and consistency. This transfers to heel and toe strikes too, such is the forgiveness and stability of the clubhead, which helps counteract poor swings on full shots into greens.

As always, choice is a big factor with Vokey wedges. It’s one of the most comprehensive wedge offerings on the market, with golfers able to choose from six different grinds and 23 loft/bounce combinations as well as three stunning finish options. This is important, because different swings and turf conditions mean the club interacts with the ground in a different way, so it’s important your wedges match up correctly.

Admittedly the SM8 wedges come in at a premium price, but golfers are getting premium performance to justify it, especially if they go through the excellent custom fitting process to get the perfect set.

Impressive performance

The T100 irons feel noticeably solid and soft at impact and the extra camber on the sole helps them glide through the turf a little more easily. In testing we found the irons a joy to hit and we were mightily impressed by how forgiving they are on poor strikes.

The long irons in the T100 set are especially user friendly. They launch the ball beautifully and provide consistent ball speeds with a tight dispersion. While the short irons offer great feel and plenty of precision.

We found it easy to work the ball throughout the set and the level of control is excellent. We were able to deliver knocked down and higher flighted shots when required.

A great look

Better players will love what they see at address. With clean lines, hardly any offset and a thinner top line with a premium, semi-polished finished, the T100s ooze class.

Overall, the Titleist T100 irons offer playability and performance with a good degree of forgiveness. Compact and attractive behind the ball they allow for a good level of control on well struck shots as well as delivering impressive distance and minimal dispersion on shots missing the centre of the face.

Titleist T400 Irons

The new T400 is the longest and most forgiving iron in Titleist’s popular T-Series.

It has a wide body shape, along with a Split Sole design, which provides optimal turf interaction for cleaner strikes while up to 100g of tungsten in each head creates a low CG, working in combination with a super-thin forged SUP-10 L-Face Insert (5-7 irons) to produce explosive launch.

The set is also progressive, with blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths changing through the set to delivers optimal CG positioning and preferred shaping. The overall size and thicker topline makes it look inviting to hit. There is noticeable offset and the back of the sole on the 7-iron is visible at address.

Explosive distance

At 26°, it has one of if not the strongest 7-iron lofts on the market. But the design is such that it still produces a playable ball flight with exceptional forgiveness, both on off-centre strikes and through the ground at impact too.

Despite its low loft, the T400 has no issue getting the ball in the air, perhaps helped by the softer and lighter AMT Red R300 shaft, hitting a flight window many golfers will already be familiar with.

Fairway forgiveness

The unique geometry of the split sole means it doesn’t play as wide as it looks and you get some assistance should you catch the ground slightly before the ball from the extra bounce close to the leading edge. There’s no question, this is one of the easiest irons to hit on the market. It’s a big investment, but if you struggle to generate speed the T400 will deliver longer carries without sacrificing the off-centre forgiveness higher handicappers need to hit more greens.

A hybrid needs to be versatile and easy to hit and from our testing, the Titleist TS2 might be one of the best on the market.

Admittedly it was unveiled last year but it is still more than competitive with anything on the market launched in 2020, thanks to its excellent speed and forgiveness.

Visually it impresses too, thanks to its large but not chunky looking profile and traditional aesthetics. The full face white grooves also amplify the alignment of the face, helping you set the clubhead down squarely behind the ball. Many will prefer the larger, more wood-like size of the TS2 over the compact TS3 and golfers that tend to sweep the ball off the turf rather than compress it will also likely get on better with the TS2 thanks to the wider sole.

The stand out feature of the TS2 is how easy it gets the ball in the air. Even on slightly thin shots, the ball achieves good carry distance and off-centre strikes from the heel and toe are similarly not affected.

This high, towering flight is ideal when hitting into greens on long par fours and par fives. The adjustability and range of loft options mean you can dial the TS2 in to hit the carry number you want, adjust the flight and also take out one side of the course. A miss the left is a common complaint of hybrids in general but we didn’t experience this with the brilliant TS2.

A custom fitting is essential to get the most from this club and ensure it fits the gaps you need it to but it is a process that will reap the rewards in the end. It will likely prove to be a worthy companion in the bag for golfers that mostly use their hybrid clubs off the deck rather than off the tee.

Titleist has really embraced the utility iron category with its U-Series range. Traditionally only designed for very good players, Titleist has expanded the appeal of the utility iron to players that may previously have never considered putting one in the bag until now.

This is because it comes in two versions, and both have proven to be popular across different handicap ranges. This is because different golfers have different visual and performance preferences from their utility clubs, assuming a hybrid is off the table for whatever reason.

Some players don’t like the look of a hybrid, or think that it misses left to often while golfers that like to compress their iron shots instead of sweeping them get on better with a more iron-like utility club.

The more compact, slimline U500 will suit the eye of the better player who has more club speed at his disposal and is looking to flight the ball a little lower.

The U510 provides golfers with a larger, more confidence inspiring shape that launches and spins a little higher. This makes it a more suitable option when hitting off the turf into long par fours and par fives. It also has a slightly lighter stock graphite shaft to help with the extra launch.

Whichever model you choose, the performance will blow you away. Both propel the ball off the face like a rocket and offer surprising levels of forgiveness. The U500 is ideal for links golf, when low flighted shots under the wind with lots of chase are the order of the day. The U510 is arguably a touch more versatile with its slightly higher flight. The 16° 1-iron has proven to be a welcome addition to our bag, combatting shots into par fives, long par threes as well as tee shots on tight par fours when finding the fairway is a must.

Once you find the model that suits the style of golf you play and hits the shots you want it to, the U500 or U510 is sure to secure a permanent spot in your bag.

In this Titleist Vokey SM8 Wedge Review, Joel Tadman tests his custom fitted set of Vokey SM8 wedges on the GCQuad and the golf course against his outgoing SM7 set

Titleist Vokey SM8 Wedge Review

When you have one of the most popular wedges on the market in SM7, it would seem prudent not to make wholesale changes when replacing it. From SM7 to SM8, the same address looks, signature feel and excellent spin control remain but some subtle tweaks to the design claim to make SM8 more accurate. 

Accuracy is everything with wedges and so we were intrigued if not a tad confused by the centre of gravity story. You can read more about the design updates here.

The proof as always is in the pudding and so our initial introduction to SM8 was via a fitting at Woburn Golf Club with Product Specialist James Robinson.

Hitting shots to a flag 80 yards away with SM7 and then switching to SM8, we saw immediate changes in the ball flight. SM8 seemed to fly 2-3 yards higher, confirmed by the Trackman, and our grouping around the hole also got tighter. Perhaps we were getting more used to the shot, or alternatively the wedge was squaring up more naturally - it is almost impossible to say with any certainty.

We then switched from the S-Grind to the D-Grind, a new addition to the 54° loft option in SM8, and the ball flight came down considerably. A lower flight is always one we prefer as it provides more control, especially in the wind. It was interesting to see the different effects the grind could have on the ball flight.

The D-Grind also gives you a little more margin for error when chipping, especially if you use a relatively square clubface, which we found helpful on the wet lies we're accustomed to here in England but perhaps less so on firmer ground.

We found the D Grind on SM7 didn't work especially well in wet, compacted bunker sand, so switching from D to K grind in the bunkers was also a revelation, providing a cleaner entry into the sand and a swift exit, with no threat of unwanted digging that can slow the clubhead down.

We received our fitted wedges within a few days and took them first to Foresight HQ to test on the GCQuad launch monitor and then to Orlando Florida to test more thoroughly.

The data told us that differences in spin performance from SM7 to SM8 were almost negligable, both on a 50-yard pitch and full shot using brand new 54° wedges in each in the same grind.

Out on the course, the spin control combined with the more user-friendly grinds allowed us to be more committed on pitch and chip shots. On full shots, it did seem like our start lines were a little tighter with SM8 and that distances seemed easier to control, but perhaps you would need to test this over a longer time period to be sure it was down to the wedges themselves.

That said, I am more confident over the ball with SM8 than I was SM7 thanks in part to the fitting process but also the stunning looks. The classic address profile and finishes haven’t changed and there is more of a consistent muscleback look across the loft range. In SM7, there were thick weight pads in the higher lofts that made them look a little chunky, so we’re pleased all the wedges will now look the same in the bag.

Titleist says the SM8 is the most accurate and forgiving Vokey wedge to date. This is thanks to a forward shift of the CG to a position that actually hovers in front of the wedge face.

This boosts MOI (up to a 7 per cent increase in the higher lofts) producing a more solid feel, improved ball flight and a club face that wants to square up at impact for more consistent results. This has been achieved by lengthening the hosels and counterbalancing that weight with high-density tungsten low in the toe.

The progressive CG system aligned with the impact position from SM7 continues – lower in the low lofts, higher in the high lofts – for better trajectory and distance control.

SM8’s patented Spin Milled grooves are meticulously engineered and cut to the edge to maximize spin and shot control. Micro-grooves are individually cut in between grooves, which maximize spin on partial shots, while a proprietary heat treatment increases durability.

Golfers can choose from six Tour-proven sole grinds – F, S, M, K, L and D –to be precisely fit for their swing type, shot making style and course conditions as well as four finishes - Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel and Jet Black, plus the tour-preferred Raw finish (custom order only).

“The first time I had guys hit SM8 was on the range at Riviera. I always listen to the sound they’re making at impact, and it was phenomenal. ‘Solid but soft’ was how they described it. They loved it.” Bob Vokey told GM.

“They also talked a lot about the flight. It’s in a better window, it’s more consistent, and they have more control of it. Overall, guys just kept telling me how easy it was to hit every type of shot they wanted to hit.”

The new T400 becomes the longest and most forgiving iron in Titleist’s popular T-Series.

This is thanks to an advanced split sole design, super-thin face and a hollow head fortified by extreme amounts of high-density tungsten weighting.

A wide body shape, along with the Split Sole design, provides optimal turf interaction for cleaner strikes while up to 100g of tungsten in each head creates a low CG, working in combination with a super-thin forged SUP-10 L-Face Insert (5-7 irons) to produce explosive launch. As a result, the lofts are some of the strongest on the market, with the 7-iron coming in at 26°.

The set is also progressive, with blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths changing through the set to delivers optimal CG positioning and preferred shaping.

T400 comes with premium lightweight graphite and steel aftermarket options to help moderate swing speed players maximize performance. The Mitsubishi Fubuki MV IR – MV stands for “Maxiumum Velocity” – produces higher ball speed through its ultra-lightweight iron-specific graphite design.

The steel True Temper AMT Red offers tour-proven ascending mass technology, with lighter long iron shafts for increased launch and speed and heavier short iron shafts for control.

A new addition to the popular Titleist T-Series is the T100S iron, a two-degree-stronger-lofted version of the T100 for golfers that like the compact look and soft feel of a forged players’ iron but want more distance.

Rather than bending the current T100 iron stronger and sacrificing the feel and turf interaction, Titleist has redesigned each individual iron with stronger lofts (7-iron is 32°) for added distance while preserving the turf interaction of the pure forged shape and sole.

It features the same technology as the T100, like the dual cavity head construction, thinner, more responsive face and co-forged, dual-density tungsten weights. An average of 66 grams of tungsten placed in the heel and toe of the mid and long irons increase both stability and speed.

Golfers playing the T100s will look down on the same thin topline and minimal offset as the T100 and experience the same turf interaction thanks to the enhanced camber on the sole.

Progressive blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths deliver optimal CG positioning with preferred shaping through the set.

“While we’ve engineered T100S for distance, this still a precision product,” Marni Ines, Director of Titleist Irons Development, told GM.

“To be a great iron player you need to be in control of your distances and have the ability to work the ball when the shot calls for it. The design of T100S allows players to hit their number from even further away – with the tight dispersion and proper trajectory they need to hit it close.”

The stock shaft is the mid launch/low spin True Temper Project X LZ in steel that enhances ball speed and launch for maximum distance with the proper trajectory. Other options are available with no upcharge.

The T100s iron goes on sale March 27th with an RRP of £1,120 for a seven-piece set.

The new Tour Soft for 2020 features the largest core ever produced by Titleist to deliver longer distance and better short game performance than the prior generation.

The larger core also required a thinner 4CE grafted cover, producing increased short game spin around the green. An updated spherically-tiled 342 cuboctahedron dimple design provides a more penetrating ball flight.

The new Tour Soft “T” sidestamp provides golfers with easier alignment on the tee or green. Tour Soft is available in white and high-optic yellow.

“When we began offering alignment aid stamps through our online My Titleist customiser , they instantly became the most popular options among golfers choosing to add custom logos to their golf ball," Michael Fish, Titleist Golf Ball Product Manager, told GM.

"Our research and testing with Tour Soft golfers showed an overwhelming preference for using an enhanced alignment stamp and they put this ‘T’ mark at the top of their list.”

The new Tour Soft is available in white and high-optic yellow from February 7th with an RRP of £33 per dozen.

The new Velocity benefits from a larger, higher speed LSX core that generates fast initial ball speeds with extremely low spin on all full swing shots to generate more distance.

The spherically-tiled 350 octahedral dimple design produces a more consistent, high-flying trajectory for longer distance and greater stopping power on iron shots.

A Fast NaZ+ Cover formulation is designed for speed and playable greenside feel.

"Velocity golfers love distance, but we know they’re also trying to shoot lower scores, and distance is only one part of that equation,"Michael Mahoney, Titleist Vice President of Golf Ball Marketing, told GM.

"Golfers can take aim from further away – confident that if they put a good swing on it, they’ll have the extra distance to reach the green with the ball flight to stop it there.”

The new Velocity is also available in three new high optic, matte color options of pink, green and orange for 2020 in various different play numbers from February 7th. The RRP is £28 per dozen.

Titleist Vokey SM8 Wedges Spotted

At the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic this week, the new Vokey Design SM8 wedges will be made available to tour players for the first time and images of them have been made available.

It marks the start of Titleist’s tour seeding and validation process for the next generation Vokey Design models – the most played wedges on tour since 2004.

It is hard to tell from the image what Titleist has done to change and improve it's wedge design, although the thicker section high on the face of the lob wedge on SM7, which created a higher CG for a stronger ball flight, looks to have been removed for a cleaner, straight-back look.

There are also some minor cosmetic changes elsewhere on the head, including a shiny chrome section.

It was January 2018 when Titleist unveiled the SM7 wedges, promising improved feel, longer-lasting spin and a wider array of loft and grind options to fit every type of player.

The Titleist wedge team, including master craftsman Bob Vokey and Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill, will be on site at Sea Island Golf Club, working alongside Titleist’s Tour Reps, introducing players to the new SM8’s and fitting them into the best bounce and grind setups for their game.

The tour debut of the Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges follows months of iteration and testing, including the trial of early unmarked prototypes during practice rounds on the PGA Tour. Players supposedly commented on improved flight and feel, and overall better results.

It is this time of year that manufacturers begin to introduce its 2020 product lines to their tour staff, hoping to get them familiar with it before fully committing to putting it in play for the next season.

GM Verdict

The Titleist TruFeel ball promises a great deal at such a low price so we were keen to see how it performed. It has an RRP of £23 a dozen but we think you'll be able to find it in your local pro shop for closer to £20 a dozen.

We hit a variety of shots with it, both on the course and the Foresight GCQuad launch monitor, and it was clear where it excelled and where it perhaps falls short compared to the brand’s premium, market-leading offering in Pro V1x that we currently play and are used to.

On all lengths of shot, it feels undoubtedly very soft. For some golfers, this will translate into better control and while there is an element of grab on well-struck chips and pitches, it does release out a little more on wedge shots than Pro V1x. This was backed up by the launch monitor, although a higher flight does boost the stopping power somewhat.

With iron shots, performance was very good – combining competitive ball speed and mid-spin to produce decent carry distances comparable with our Pro V1x as you can see from the data below.

The soft feel remains off the tee, which seems counter intuitive, although spin remained relatively low and ball speed and distance was only a little shy of pro V1x and the gap seemed even closer out on the course, assisted by a slightly lower flight.

The new sidestamp design could certainly provide alignment assistance both on the greens, especially from short range, and even off the tee for those who struggle to find fairways. The bright white finish also stands out more prominently than Pro V1x, making it seem larger and easier to hit.

Replacing the popular Titleist DT TruSoft ball from two years ago in the low-compression, soft-feeling performance category is the brand new Titleist TruFeel ball.

Based on feedback from consumers, Titleist set out to increase driver distance with the new model while maintaining the soft feel and short game control golfers enjoyed as well as the quality, consistency and durability expected from a Titleist ball.

To do that, Titleist reformulated the core of the TruFeel ball by including more of the faster materials within it to increase ball speed with the driver while also keeping spin low to maximize distance.

The cover has also been redesigned to improve performance. It boasts the same number of dimples as seen on the DT TruSoft, but changes in the size, angles and composition of the dimples has lead to enhanced aerodynamics to assist further with increasing long game distance.

The new cover also provides a more consistent flight as well as soft feel and added control into and around the green.

The new sidestamp incorporated on the TruFeel ball has been the most popular custom option on the My Titleist customiser on the Titleist website since options debuted in February 2018. It is said to help with alignment on the greens and means golfers don’t need to draw a line on the ball before play.

“We know from our extensive player testing that golfers who gravitate toward the softest-feeling golf balls are also clearly focused on performance,” said Michael Mahoney, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing.

“TruFeel strikes the perfect balance of extremely soft feel and all-around performance. Our engineers have advanced TruFeel’s low compression technology to add speed and distance in the long game while preserving the feel that golfers tell us they love and the playability on every shot.”

Every TruFeel golf ball is made at Titleist Ball Plant 2 in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to ensure the most consistent performance, quality and feel – from ball to ball and dozen to dozen.

The Titleist TruFeel ball is available from October 1st in both White and Optic Yellow, with a new Matte Red colour option coming in January 2020. The RRP is £23 per dozen.

Looks Classic and compact, the single figure golfer will love what they see behind the ball. Clean lines, hardly any offset and a thinner topline with a premium, semi-polished finished oozes class.

Performance The T100 is the model from the new T-Series that most closely resembles the old 718 AP2 iron, which was popular among tour players and low handicap amateurs thanks to the level of forgiveness and playability built into such a compact head.

It certainly looks more like the old 718 CB model at address thanks to being a bit more compact on the top rail, but has even more forgiveness on offer to rescue a poor strike. It feels noticeably solid and soft at impact and the extra camber on the sole helps it glide through the turf a little more easily.

It was a joy to hit and good strikes and results seemed surprisingly easy to come by. With the 7-iron at 34°, it maintains its traditional lofts that the higher speed players will prefer, not creating gapping issues at either end of the bag.

The long irons in the T100 set are especially user friendly. They launch the ball with consummate ease and provide consistent ball speeds and a tight dispersion, even when you’re not expecting it after a poor strike.

While the short irons do offer great feel and plenty of precision, there’s definitely scope to create a mixed set with the 620 CB irons given the next-level feel and workability they provide.

• The TS2 hybrid’s driver-like technology comprises a thinner titanium crown, a 16 per cent thinner face and a 10 per cent higher MOI.
• This combination should increase ball speed and clubhead stability, resulting in longer, straighter shots.
• The larger, more forgiving TS2 is for players who have more of a shallow, sweeping delivery into the ball. It comes in lofts of 17˚, 19˚, 21˚, 23˚, 25˚ and 27˚

Looks The TS2 looks like a mini fairway wood, with a larger, more rounded address profile than the TS3.

The glossy black finish adds to the premium visuals although so produce some glare from the sun in certain angles at address.

GM Verdict As someone who chops between a hybrid and a utility iron, one would think the more iron-like TS3 hybrid would better suit my eye, yet the TS2 was a revelation. Seemingly easier to strike and more symmetrical in shape, it produced slightly better results overall than the TS3.

It was more forgiving than the TS3, producing consistently higher ball speeds while still keeping spin relatively low at around the 4,500rpm mark. This provided a nice balance of distance and stopping power, bolstering the TS2’s versatility. As a result, the TS2 was a touch longer than the TS3 and also flew a little higher too.

It’s the more user-friendly option, and while those who hit down steeply on hybrids as they do with their irons might prefer the TS3’s narrower sole, the TS2 will surprise a lot of golfers for its overall playability, even lower handicappers.

The TS2 is certainly more suited to shots into greens, and while it might struggle a little into a strong wind, you can still manipulate flight in different ways to a degree. The adjustability and range of loft options mean you can dial the TS2 in to hit the carry number you want and also take out one side of the course. In our 90g Project X EvenFlow T1100 White 6.0 shaft, it thankfully didn’t miss left as much as hybrids often can.

Looks At address, the T300 iron has a relatively thick top line on show combined with a touch of offset and a shiny, darker finish than the other T-Series irons, which arguably makes it look more compact than it is.

Titleist T-Series Iron Range Review

Performance The 718 AP1 was one of the best game-improvement irons of the last two years and the T300 looks to be the iron most like it in the new T-Series range.

The biggest improvement comes from the feel of the club - it certainly feels like the ball comes off the face a lot faster - the clubhead feeling solid and stable with the sound not too hard or clicky, which is often a common complaint of game improvement irons.

With a 7-iron loft of 29°, a degree stronger than the outgoing 718 AP1, you would expect more distance and we certainly got it.

The T300 spun around 700rpm less on average than the T200, so it produces more of a rainbow flight that launches high and comes down on a slightly shallower descent angle.

Carries with the 7-iron were in excess of 190 yards for us and were consistently around that number, with a ball speed average of a whopping 128 mph. This wasn’t at the cost of trajectory for our above-average swing speed though, in fact it flew only a few feet lower than the T200 and the much more traditionally lofted T100.

Titleist T-Series Irons Revealed

Two years has passed since the launch of the 718 irons and so it’s now time for a new range from Titleist. But this isn’t merely another AP line with a new number in front of it.

Nope, Titleist believes the jump in technology and performance is so significant, it needed a completely new name. It has been crowned the T-Series and there are three models within it, accompanied by new 620 CB and MB irons, catering for every style and ability of player looking to hit their iron shots closer.

The T100 is most similar to the outgoing 718 AP2 model. It is a players' iron, traditional in loft, that features a forged cavity construction and a thinner, more responsive face. An average of 66g of co-forged, dual density tungsten optimizes launch within the 3-7-irons and boosts off-centre forgiveness.

The irons also boast enhanced sole camber for cleaner turf interaction, less offset and a thinner topline that matches the old 718 CB model.

The T200, which most closely matches the popular 718 AP3 in terms of size, is where the biggest leap in technology can be found. It features Max Impact, an innovation that extends the maximum speed across the face for consistent distance by combining Titleist’s thinnest face, a structural support and a silicone polymer core developed in partnership with the Titleist ball team.

Side benefits include improved launch and a more preferable feel. This players’ distance iron has a forged L-face, tungsten weighting in the long irons and is designed for golfers seeking distance from a tour-inspired look.

The T300, the largest and longest of the T-Series that most closely resembles the 718 AP1, also features Max Impact technology and tungsten weighting for distance and forgiveness.

It also has a medallion dampener for improved sound and feel and the added bounce on the sole for improved turf interaction.

For the better player seeking a softer feel, there is the option of the 620 CB and MB irons. The 620 CB now has a thinner topline and tungsten weighting in the 3 and 4-iron only, while the 620 MB is a one-piece forged muscleback for the ultimate in feel and shot making and has a new brushed finish.

The Titleist T-Series and 620 irons go on sale on August 30th with the following RRPs per club in a wide range of shafts as standard (steel): T100 - £160, T200 - £160, T300 - £125, 620 CB and MB - £160.

Titleist TS4 Driver Review

The TS4 is one of four models forming the TS driver range, making it one of the most expansive on the market. It is said to complement the TS2 and TS3 by being designed for anyone looking to significantly reduce their spin.

This doesn’t necessarily mean just tour players with very high swing speeds. It could be anyone who hits down on the ball significantly, although the smaller size and more forward CG make the TS4 less forgiving and thus better suited to accomplished ball-strikers.

Key Technology

• Every TS driver face undergoes a 100 per cent CT inspection to ensure speed performance is at the maximum allowable limit.
• The aerodynamic, pear-shape design of TS4 allows golfers to swing faster for increased clubhead speed and more distance.
• The low and forward CG position (5mm forward vs TS2) produces ultra-low spin for a piercing ball flight that is straighter and more consistent.

Looks It is much more compact behind the ball than the other TS models, promoting workability and the need to be precise with the strike. The glossy black finish on the crown adds to the premium appeal.

Performance

Our club speed with the TS4 was actually a little quicker than with the TS3, possibly because of the more streamlined, smaller chassis. Ball speeds with the TS4 were also faster on average as a result, but slightly less efficient because of the lower forgiveness on offer, meaning carry distances compared with TS3 were similar.

The TS4 was proven to be the lowest spinning of the TS drivers, although we only experienced a drop of around 50rpm compared with TS3 in like-for-like loft and shaft. In fact, overall performance between TS3 and TS4 was very similar. The TS4 also has a much shorter, quieter sound at impact than all the other TS models, which we definitely prefer.

The TS4 could well become the tour player’s top choice. The timing of the launch is questionable, as is the need for it at retail given the versatility of the TS3, but consistent ball-strikers may well enjoy looking down at the deeper-faced head and prefer the extra workability on offer. With some extra loft, the spin reduction could increase distance on centred hits, although off-centre strikes are likely to be more adversely affected than on TS3.

The new Titleist TS2 and TS3 hybrids share the speed-enhancing chassis of the TS drivers and fairways

Titleist TS Hybrids Launched

Considered scoring clubs rather than rescues, the new TS2 and TS3 hybrids replace the 818H1 and H2 models and benefit from the distance-enhancing Speed Chassis we saw on the TS woods family.

They join the U500 and U510 utility irons as scoring options to fill the gap between your fairway wood and longest iron.

The driver-like technology comprises a thinner titanium crown, a 16 per cent thinner face and 10 per cent higher MOI. This combination should increase ball speed and clubhead stability, resulting in consistently longer and straighter shots.

The larger, more forgiving TS2 hybrid is designed for players who prefer the look of a fairway wood and have more of a shallow, sweeping delivery into the ball. It should launch and spin higher than the more compact TS3 and features a SureFit Flatweight for adjustable swingweight.

The TS3 is built for those who hit down on their hybrid like an iron with more offset and a squarer toe.

The TS3 hybrid also offers shot-shape customisation through the adjustable Magnetic SureFit CG, a weight cartridge that slots in at the back of the clubhead.

Both models feature Titleist’s SureFit hosel with 16 independent one degree loft and lie settings to optimise ball flight as well as launch and spin.

The Titleist TS hybrids have an RRP of £255 with four aftermarket shafts available as standard, including the Kuro Kage Dual Core Black, the Tensei AV Series Blue, the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black and the low launching EvenFlow White.

The TS2 comes in lofts 17°, 19°, 21°, 23°, 25° and 27° while the TS3 is offered in the same apart from the 27°. The 17° option comes in right-hand only. All go on sale from August 30^th.
