After the American and Irish rival Seamus Power were tied on 16-under through three rounds and the fourth round was cancelled, a Monday playoff eventually began on the par-3 16th.

Power missed out on a chance to wrap up the title on the first go when his 25-foot birdie try trickled left of the target, with Smotherman managing to get up and down from the rough short and right of the hole.

On the next go, Smotherman showed excellent touch to two-putt from the opposite end of the putting surface while Power this time went up and down from the left green-side bunker.

Yet, the Irishman's luck ran out when - after a change of hole location - his tee shot found the thick rough short and left. A stab out didn't travel the distance he'd wanted and, after a missed par attempt from range, Smotherman was free to two-putt from 20 feet for the win.

The 32-year-old's second FedExCup Fall victory in as many starts (Bank of Utah Championship) not only further boosted his exemption status on the PGA Tour but also secured him yet another huge winner's check.

Smotherman banked the seven-figure payout while Power received a consolation prize of almost $700,00. For everyone else who may well have already headed over to Mexico for the next two FedExCup Fall events, their payouts were decided on Sunday.

High winds at Port Royal Golf Course meant no play was undertaken on Sunday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, with Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman returning for a Monday playoff.

Both men finished the 54-hole event at 16-under-par and, in terms of the end result, it was Smotherman who got the better of his opponent, claiming victory with a par at the third playoff hole.

Reacting to the victory, the 32-year-old, who claimed the Bank of Utah Championship at the beginning of the month, stated: "To get the win is the cherry on the top.

"A lot of people were asking me coming into this week, 'what are you doing? You just won,' but we're doing a lot of good things and we wanted to come to a good spot where I have great history.

"It's easy to enjoy this week and that's exactly what it was."

In the playoff between Smotherman and Power, both men parred the first and second playoff holes, which took place at the par 3 16th.

It was the third where the damage was done for Power, though, who hit a poor tee shot and a poor chip to produce a bogey, with Smotherman having two putts for it after he found the green with an 8-iron.

Although he ran the first putt by, the four footer coming back was never anywhere else, with Smotherman wrapping up a second PGA Tour title in a month at the Bermuda Championship.

It means Smotherman cements his spot in the 51st to 60th category on the FedExCup Fall rankings, while Power moves to 68th.

At that point, it was still hoped that the final round would take place among the 72 remaining players in the field on Monday.

However, with more unfavorable weather in the forecast, the PGA Tour has confirmed that the tournament will be decided over 54 holes.

After three rounds, Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power shared the lead at 16-under.

As a result, a sudden-death playoff between the two co-leaders is tentatively scheduled for 9am local time (8am ET) on Monday, subject to weather conditions, with the action due to be broadcast on the Golf Channel.

A statement released by the PGA Tour reads: “Due to the unfavorable weather forecast for Monday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and the uncertainty surrounding the completion of the entire final round on Monday, the tournament results will be considered final through 54 holes in accordance with PGA Tour regulations.

“A playoff between Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman will be conducted to determine the champion and is tentatively scheduled for 9am local time on Monday, subject to weather conditions. The playoff will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel.”

Power is looking for his second victory at the event, having won it in 2022, while Smotherman claimed his maiden PGA Tour title earlier this month at the Bank of Utah Championship.

Players battled strong winds throughout the tournament, and the final round of the FedExCup Fall event had seen its tee times brought forward in an attempt to beat the weather, but conditions worsened ahead of time.

That led to a PGA Tour statement confirming there would be no play on Sunday “due to wind gusts over 40mph.”

The decision to abandon the final round also ended the hopes of several players who had been in contention, including Taylor Moore, Corey Conners and Ben Silverman, who finished 54 holes just two shots behind the leaders.

The field has been battling strong winds all week at Port Royal Golf Course but the forecast for Sunday is even more severe and tournament organizers have opted to postpone the final round.

The FedExCup Fall tournament had already seen its final-round tee times brought forward in an attempt to beat the weather, but conditions worsened ahead of time and there appears to be no break for the foreseeable future.

In a statement, a PGA Tour spokesperson said: "Due to wind gusts over 40mph, along with a diminishing forecast and no improvement to the current weather conditions, the PGA Tour Rules Committee announced at 9am local time there will be no play today."

The PGA Tour went on to say an update regarding play on Monday will be shared no later than 5pm local time and it is thought organizers remain hopeful all four rounds will be completed by the 72 remaining players.

As it stands, Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power are sharing the lead on 16-under and will populate the final group.

Taylor Moore, Corey Conners and Ben Silverman are just two strokes behind in a share of third while Tom Hoge, Chris Kirk, Danny Walker, Chandler Blanchet and Chan Kim - fresh off the back of a scintillating seven-under 64 on Saturday - make up the top-10 on 13-under.

Historically, the winning score at Port Royal Golf Club has ranged between 15-under-par and 24-under-par, although last year Adam Schenk reigned supreme on an unusually high-scoring 12-under.

One clear indication of the brutal weather players have faced throughout the week is reflected in Saturday's third-round scores.

Of the 72 players who made the cut, which arrived at five-under, 46 golfers failed to shoot 69 or better in round three (64%).

Kisner played for Tiger's Jupiter Links team for two years, but when the TGL season three rosters came out he was not included in the five-man line-up.

While explaining why he didn't make the team, and the rather cold manner he found out about it, Kisner also gave the biggest hint yet that Woods would be returning to action soon - with a full TGL schedule his big target.

Woods played just once in last season's TGL, taking part in the finals that Jupiter Links lost out to against Los Angeles.

Jupiter Links is bringing back Max Homa, Tom Kim and Akshay Bhatia to the roster, with Woods joined by new signing Kieth Mitchell to effectively replace Kisner.

And one of the reasons according to Kisner is that Woods is hoping to play a larger role in the simulator league this time around.

"Well, obviously, I'm not on the team anymore," Kisner said on Barstool's Fore Play podcast. "I had a two-year contract with Jupiter Links and then they, Tiger wants to play. And then they wanted to sign Keith Mitchell, which is totally fine with me.

"And I'm sure I'll still be involved in some sort of fashion at some point. Go down there and do some stuff for them. You know, the Bad News Bears are still going to be a part of my life, and hopefully they continue to win."

Such big news was dropped in not the best way for Kisner, with Tiger's manager Rob McNamara doing the deed by text, and apparently no word from Woods himself.

As Kisner revealed how it all went down, he revealed that Woods hopes to play a full part in TGL season three as he recovers from his latest injury and huge personal problems.

"Rob, Tiger's guy, he text me a long text last week, I think," added NBC analyst Kisner.

"Just telling me what they did on their decisions, how they were moving around and what players were going to do and that Tiger wanted to play a full schedule.”

When will Tiger Woods play again?

Woods looks to be making his latest comeback following his much-publicized time away from the sport - following the 50-year-old's crash in Florida in March which led to him receiving a five-year driving ban.

Also returning from injury, he's been spotted making swings on the range at the TGR Junior Invitational at Pebble Beach recently.

He's not played a professional tournament since the 2024 Open Championsnhip, but once again some familiar events could be earmarked for a comeback - the Hero World Challenge in December being one, with three places still available in the field.

Then there's the PNC Championship which he's played with son Charlie on multiple occasions, before TGL will begin and if Woods starts that season then everyone will look at the Genesis Invitational he hosts as a possible comeback or maybe even The Masters.

So Kisner's comments will be just the start of the latest 'When will Tiger Woods play again?' saga.

With each passing event, the pressure grows on players still battling to secure their PGA Tour cards for the following season.

As a result, the field includes several players with work to do to ensure they finish inside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings following the season-ending RSM Classic.

Notable names among those are PGA Tour winners Lucas Glover, Taylor Moore and Seamus Power.

In the latter’s case, he has good reason to hope for a strong performance in Bermuda, having won the event in 2022.

He’s not the only former champion in the field, with Adam Schenk hoping to replicate his success from 12 months ago, when he beat Chandler Phillips, securing his PGA Tour card in the process.

Rafael Campos, who won the event in 2024, also plays, along with 2023 winner Camilo Villegas and 2019 champion Brendon Todd.

None of the world's top 50 are competing, with Corey Conners the highest-ranked player in the field at World No.60.

Austin Smotherman, who claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the Bank of Utah Championship, is the next highest-ranked player, in 66th, with World No.82 Eric Cole the third on the list. Ben James, Andrew Novak, Ben Kohles and Max Greyserman are the other players in the world’s top 100.

There are also some notable amateurs in the field, including US Walker Cup stars Miles Russell, Kihei Akina and Jay Leng Jr, along with 2025 US Amateur champion Mason Howell.

However, there are some significant absentees.

Among them is Marco Penge, who sits 10 places outside the top-100 cut-off for full PGA Tour status in 2027. Another is 2025 European Ryder Cup player Rasmus Hojgaard, who is 113th in the standings.

Billy Horschel is 90th in the FedExCup standings, but is another notable absentee despite still being some way from guaranteeing his PGA Tour future.

The PGA Tour has parted ways with the Colorado-based luxury travel company which is facing a number of federal fraud lawsuits after suddenly ceasing operations in September.

But although ONEflight has been dropped, the other co-main sponsor Visit Myrtle Beach will continue to support the event and there'll be no change to tournament prize money next year.

This year's event, won by Brandt Snedeker, had a $4m prize fund and featured Brooks Koepka, Tom Kim and Aaron Rai who finished fifth before going on to win the PGA Championship.

Steve Mays was announced as the new tournament director on Thursday and immediately insisted that the 2027 tournament would be going ahead just as planned without ONEflight involved.

“We’re gonna move forward as the Myrtle Beach Classic with Visit Myrtle Beach as our title sponsor," said Mays, as quoted by WMBF News.

"There’ll be no change to the purse or to the tournament.”

Stuart Butler, president of Visit Myrtle Beach, also confirmed the event would go ahead with his company as the sole title sponsor for now.

"Visit Myrtle Beach is excited to continue its sponsorship of the tournament in 2027 and looks forward to working with the PGA Tour, Dunes Golf and Beach Club, SportFive and the local community to build upon the success the event brings to our region," said Butler in a statement.

The 2027 event is set to take place 13-16 May at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, with 45-year-old Snedeker the defending champion after his eye-catching victory this year.

Veteran Snedeker claimed his first PGA Tour title in 2,821 days with final round of 66 giving him his first trophy since the 2018 Wyndham Championship.

While it's too early to say if another title sponsor will come in, Mays is comfortable the event will not suffer with the loss of ONEflight, who not only put up half of the $4m purse but also helped bring in A-lister celebrities for the Wednesday Pro-Am.

Mays says he will "have a lot of focus on the fan experience" as well as showcasing the golfing hotspot that is Myrtle Beach.

It's crunch time for PGA Tour events with the upcoming changes from 2028 onwards, so if Myrtle Beach organisers have desires on staging on event on the new calendar they'll hope 2027 goes off without a hitch.

Previously, the PGA Tour handed out a $10m pension pot to the senior circuit before it was cut to $8m last year, but now it's being axed completely.

PGA Tour Champions president Miller Brady relayed the news at a players meeting, saying the seniors tour would try and stand on its own two feet financially moving forward.

There's $69m in prize money on offer this season on the PGA Tour Champions, but the removal of the long-standing pension program has not gone down well at all with the over-50s on the tour.

"It went from $10 million to $8 million and now it's zero," Billy Andrade told Golfweek.

"You've got all these millions flowing everywhere for Championship Series, this series, that series, for all these leagues this guy [Brian Rolapp] is creating, and then they're taking this money that has been designated to these Champions players.

"These are the players who helped make the Tour what it is today and helped create the jobs that executives and current players enjoy. It's actually criminal."

Those sentiments were echoed by David Toms, who added that the PGA Tour was: "playing for $20 million almost every week and they can't afford $10 million for our pension?

"It's a bad look, in my opinion, and I think most of the guys out there feel that way."

And Scott McCarron added: "It's absolutely terrible what they did to us Champions Tour players.

"To just take it away and not have a way to get it back, I think is terrible. I'm really upset with the leadership of the PGA Tour, [Commissioner] Jay Monahan and Brian Rolapp in particular."

Can seniors circuit survive financially?

The pension scheme dates back to 1985 when $250,000 was allocated to the senior tour, as most of the players had other benefits to keep them going from playing on the PGA Tour.

More money has come in though in recent times with 29 events on the 2026 schedule and prize purses around $1.8-$2.2m for the majority of those outside of the Majors.

The new Portugal Invitational this year and next year's inaugural Sony Championship Open in Hawaii both have $3m prize purses and Brady feels that growth can continue to help the senior circuit stand on its own.

"We've gotten to the point where we are making money for the organization, and if we can do better, we can reinvest in ourselves," Brady said. "It may take a while, but the financial performance of this tour is as good as it has ever been.

"While you never want to take anything away from the players, they also understand. They get it. I told the guys, it's my job to raise prize money over time, and we've slowly started to do that. For a long time, we were just happy to renew sponsors."

And with the likes of Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Padraig Harrington winning tournaments this year there's plenty of big names on the PGA Tour Champions to attract fans and sponsors.

Of course, if Tiger Woods could manage to get back on the course the seniors could be a spot for his competitive return, while Phil Mickelson may need somewhere to play once he's back in action.

Those two over-50s could catapult the tour into a different stratosphere.

Zalatoris will play in the upcoming Austin Championship in November in what will be just his fifth PGA Tour start of the year and first since the Valero Texas Open in April.

The three-time Major runner-up has suffered from a torn labrum this year but the majority of his injury problems all stem from his back issues, which have required two previous operations.

That will become his third back surgery as, speaking at the media event for the Austin Championship, Zalatoris revealed he'll have a spinal fusion operation in November.

"I've been through four years of hell, so it's good to have something that will hopefully correct it," said Zalatoris.

"It's not something you want to do, but when you have three tour physical therapists tell you it needs to be done at some time, you go ahead and do it."

It means Zalatoris will have to sit out the 2027 campaign while he recovers from this major procedure, but he hopes it will final rectify the back issues that resulted in him having a microdiscectomy in 2023 and a disc replacement in 2025.

"I'm the oldest 30-year-old you will ever meet," Zalatoris, who turned 30 in August, joked about his medical history.

"It's all connected together, and I just want to get it fixed," he added about his injuries. "I can't promise anybody anything because of what I've been through."

Cruel injuries scupper Zalators career

Back problems have so far ruined what looked a hugely promising career for one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour - who received Rookie of the Year honors for the 2020-21 season despite only playing on a special temporary membership.

He has just one PGA Tour victory, at the 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship, but looked a Major champion in waiting after going close on a number of occasions.

Zalatoris finished second on his Masters debut in 2021 before then losing a playoff to Justin Thomas for the 2022 PGA Championship and finishing tied second behind Matt Fitzpatrick at the following US Open.

His sparkling iron play was largely behind his Major brilliance, with just the putter letting him down on the odd occasion so he could already have had a couple of Majors in his pocket.

He had six top-eight finishes, three of those second place, in his first 10 Majors before injuries forced him out of the game for long spells.

At Augusta National in particular he thrived with 2-T6-T9 finishes in his first three before missing the cut at his fourth appearance in 2025.

The recoil in his golf swing for someone as slightly built as Zalatoris put too much strain on his back though and he now hopes this latest surgery can finally cure his long run of problems. Still only 30 there's still plenty of time for him but he faces another tough road to recovery.

Offering more prize money and opportunities to earn Major starts, the jump between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour is a sizeable one, hence why many will be relieved to secure their playing privileges on the latter for next year.

Prior to the Korn Ferry Tour Championship finale, which took place at The Federal Club, multiple names were already Tour bound and, following the conclusion of the event, we now know who is among the full list of players that find themselves inside the top 20.

Ross Steelman topped the final points list, while Sandy Scott, who claimed back-to-back wins in his last two starts, was runner-up.

Joined by Alistair Docherty and Ian Holt, the fifth place player in the points list was Alvaro Ortiz, who is the younger brother of LIV Golfer and former PGA Tour winner, Carlos.

There are always big winners when it comes to final events of the season and, arguably, the biggest winner of the week was Austin Hitt, who won the Korn Ferry Tour Championship by two shots and vaulted from outside the top 20 into sixth.

One name to look out for next year will be 19-year-old Blades Brown, whose consistent season of 12 top 25s was rewarded with a top 10 finish in the points list. In the process, the American becomes the youngest player to earn a PGA Tour card via the Korn Ferry Tour.

Carson Young and Taylor Dickson, who lost their PGA Tour cards in 2025, have bounced back on to the circuit after a strong year, while Davis Lamb jumped three spots in the overall standings to secure the 20th and final spot.

His run to 20th position was helped by a solo eighth finish at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, highlighted by a three-under 68 on Sunday.

The first came back at the Biltmore Championship in September, when Alejandro Tosti's caddie, Cliff Ellis, walked off midway through the first round, with the other occurring at this week's Baycurrent Classic.

Taking place in Japan, the 72-man tournament was won by Michael Brennan, who secured a one stroke win over Keith Mitchell and Jacob Bridgeman.

Less than 12 hours on from the win, though, news broke that one player in the tournament had split with his caddie prior to a ball being struck on the final round on Sunday.

First reported by Golfweek, the player in question was David Lipsky, who finished the event in a share of 54th position, carding a three-under tournament total at Yokohama Country Club.

According to Golfweek, Lipsky's caddie, Darren Woolard, reportedly had enough of working with the American, with a source telling the outlet that "Woolard essentially told Lipsky to find someone else to carry his bag for Sunday's final round."

It's unclear as to who took over the bag for the 38-year-old on Sunday, with some claiming it was Lipsky's trainer, as the player carded a one-under 70 for the final round.

Previously caddying for the likes of PGA Tour winners KH Lee and Scott Piercy, Woolard has been a bagman for some time, while Lipsky has made 160 starts on the PGA Tour, accumulating $8 million in prize money.

As mentioned, the split comes just a month after Tosti and his caddie, Ellis, split mid-round, as Ellis was seen removing his caddie's bib halfway through the first day of the Biltmore Championship.

The American carded a final-round 68 (-3) at Yokohama Country Club to triumph by a stroke, holding off Keith Mitchell and Jacob Bridgeman by the narrowest of margins in just his 33rd tour start.

Xander Schauffele, Brian Harman and Ryan Gerard were also in the group that finished T4th as a bunched leaderboard tried to deny Brennan.

Yet, the 24-year-old stood strong and backed up rounds of 68-67-65 to secure the title.

He's now won the Baycurrent Classic and Wyndham Championship in 2026, adding on to his maiden PGA Tour title at the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship. In all three, he held the 54-hole lead and went on to convert.

Brennan's latest achievement secures him one of his biggest-ever pay checks, too.

The most lucrative FedExCup Fall tournament offers up a total prize purse of $8 million, with Brennan collecting almost $1.5 million before various factors reduce how much he really earns.

He also bagged another 500 FedExCup points to strengthen his position inside the top-50, too.

For everyone else, the rewards aren't quite as heavy but they're still very much worthwhile. Below is the full prize money breakdown for each player and position at the 2026 Baycurrent Classic.

Just ask Sahith Theegala who, on Friday at the PGA Tour's Baycurrent Classic, not only found his golf ball stuck up a tree, but later, his umbrella.

Starting his second round, Theegala carded a one-under-par front nine to sit two-over-par for the event, as he made his way to the par 4 11th at Yokohama Country Club, the hardest on the layout.

Pulling his tee shot left, the ball never dropped back down on to the fairway and, as Theegala and his playing partners Jordan Smith and Tomohiro Ishizaka walked up to the tree, it was believed the ball had stayed up in the branches.

In the video posted to the PGA Tour's social media channels, Theegala explains the debacle that occurred, with the PGA Tour winner stating: "We all heard it hit the tree really loud, but nobody ever saw the ball come down.

"I didn't really think it would get stuck in the trees. I guess it popped up in the air and just embedded itself in some leaves and branches."

What then followed can only be described as golf being a 'normal sport', as Theegala called a Rules Official over, before his caddie then attempted to knock the ball out of the tree with an umbrella...

Something that ended with a humorous outcome.

Being told by the Rules Official that he must identify the golf ball stuck in the tree, Theegala then proceeds to look through his rangefinder and, although he "marks a large portion of his golf ball," he couldn't see any markings on the ball.

The solution? Well, that involved Theegala's caddie, Carl Smith, throwing an umbrella up into the tree, with Jordan Smith's caddie, Josh, joining him in the event.

Eventually, after numerous attempts, the caddies did take enough of the tree down for Theegala to identify his golf ball, but only after his caddie got his umbrella stuck on the branches in an attempt to knock the ball down.

Upon identifying the ball, Theegala took an unplayable ball as, under Rule 19.2c, specifically 'Reference Point', it states: "When the ball lies above the ground, such as in a tree, the reference point is the spot directly below the ball on the ground."

A one-shot penalty occurred for the American who, after taking the drop, fired his iron to the left-side of the green, before two-putting for a bogey five.

Going on to shoot a one-over-par back nine, Theegala then followed that up with a two-over-par third round on Saturday, as he dropped into 69th spot at five-over-par, just three places above Aldrich Potgieter, who is at the foot of the leaderboard.

After three rounds of action, it's Michael Brennan, Zach Bauchou and Jacob Bridgeman who lead at 13-under, as Major winners Adam Scott and Justin Thomas are among a five-way share of fourth at 12-under.

Nine players sit within a single shot, while Ryan Gerard, Mac Meissner and Max Homa are 10-under and defending champion, Xander Schauffele, joins Sungjae Im, Brian Harman and Michael Kim at nine-under.

It means we have a potential thrilling final day in store in Japan, where players are looking to earn as much prize money and FedExCup Fall points as possible in the third Fall event of 2026.

In terms of tee times, the three leaders, Brennan, Bauchou and Bridgeman, are the final group off at 2.21am (GMT+1), with there being a two tee start on Sunday.

Plenty of players in the Bank of Utah Championship have taken great strides in securing their playing rights at this level ahead of a crucial 2027 campaign.

None more so than Austin Smotherman and Doug Ghim - the two runaway leaders at the top of the leaderboard.

Smotherman heads the pack on 23-under while Ghim is only a shot behind - four in front of his closest challenger at the highly scoreable Black Desert Resort.

And while plenty of other players have enjoyed great progress in terms of their long-term aims this week, whoever picks up the win will immediately eradicate their concerns.

Not only will they lock up their PGA Tour card for next term, but they will also pick up 500 FedExCup Fall points and a winner's check for more than $1 million from an overall prize pot of $6 million.

Unfortunately, they won't actually welcome that entire figure into their bank account for a number of different reasons which affects how much every pro golfer really earns, but they will still walk away far richer than they were on Thursday.

For everyone else, it will be a case of battling it out to earn as much money and as many FedExCup Fall points as possible.

The man in second will collect an initial $654,000 while everyone else who finishes inside the top-16 has a chance to claim a six-figure payday.

Below is the maximum prize money payout for each position at the 2026 Bank of Utah Championship based on 75 players making the cut and before ties are taken into account. This list will be updated once the tournament has concluded.

Austin Smotherman leads the way on 23-under for the week while Doug Ghim is only a stroke behind and will join the former in the final group later on today.

Both will be desperate to lock up a win which would guarantee them PGA Tour status through 2028 - the opening year of the circuit's new identity.

For everyone else on 18-under or worse, the final round represents the last opportunity this week to move up the leaderboard and earn as many FedExCup points as possible.

Those who finish between 51st and 60th in the final FedExCup standings will earn spots in two Signature Events to start next year.

For everyone else, it's about trying to finish inside the FedExCup's top-100 in order to secure PGA Tour status next term.

It wasn’t just winning gold in Japan that had implications for Kim’s career - it also earned him an exemption from mandatory military service in his native South Korea.

Able-bodied South Korean males are usually required to perform 18 to 21 months of military service before the age of 28, but some individuals can secure exemptions with success in notable events, including winning a gold medal at the Asian Games.

Initially, Kim had been in the 72-player field for the third FedExCup Fall event of the PGA Tour season, the Baycurrent Classic, which begins at Yokohama Country Club in Japan next week.

However, the four-time PGA Tour winner has withdrawn from the no-cut event, with Norwegian Kris Ventura taking his place in the field.

It’s not just the pressure of winning gold at the Asian Games that Kim has had to contend with in recent weeks.

His commitment at the Asian Games meant that he had to leave last week’s Presidents Cup, where he starred for the Internationals, before its conclusion.

While there is no confirmation as to why Kim has withdrawn from next week’s event, his dash from Medinah to Japan for his date with destiny will no doubt have contributed to a physically and emotionally draining spell for the 24-year-old.

Despite Kim’s decision not to participate in the Baycurrent Classic, there is still a strong field lined up for the event.

The defending champion is two-time Major winner Xander Schauffele, while US Open champion Wyndham Clark, who is in search of his fourth title of the season, also plays.

Other big names set to appear include Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and local hero Hideki Matsuyama, who won the tournament in 2021.

A limited field of just 72 will tee it up at the no-cut event, among them some of the biggest names in the game.

A year ago, two-time Major winner Xander Schauffele earned his 10th PGA Tour title at the event, and he defends his title.

Other former winners of the tournament in the field include 2024 champion Nico Echavarria, 2022 champion Keegan Bradley and Japan’s highest-profile player, Hideki Matsuyama, who won in 2021.

The latter will hope that the home support can inspire him to his 12th PGA Tour title and his first since The Sentry at the beginning of 2025.

Matsuyama will be joined by more notable Japanese stars including Ryo Hisatsune and Keita Nakajima.

The highest-ranked player in the field is World No.5 Wyndham Clark, who is looking for his fourth win of a glorious year that included his second US Open title.

Three years ago, another two-time Major winner, Collin Morikawa, won the event when it was named the Zozo Championship, and he also plays.

Jacob Bridgeman won the first FedExCup Fall event, the Biltmore Championship Asheville, and he heads to Japan in search of his third win this season, having picked up his maiden PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational.

Other notable names in the field include two-time PGA Champion Justin Thomas, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott and Sungjae Im.

Tom Kim had been due to appear, but following his gold medal win at the Asian Games, which also earned him an exemption from mandatory military service, he has withdrawn, with Kris Ventura taking his place.

The USA completed a remarkable comeback on Sunday at Medinah to win the singles 9.5-2.5 and seal a 17-13 victory to give them momentum ahead of next September's big clash at Adare Manor.

US captain Brandt Snedeker told PGA Tour Sirius XM radio in the aftermath that the Americans will be a "problem" in Ireland next year, but will Luke Donald's Europeans be quietly confident after watching events unfold in Chicago?

"I think we’re all tired of this narrative that we don’t care about each other, that we don’t know how to play team golf. I think this proves it," Snedeker said.

"You don’t come back the way we did if these guys haven’t all bought into each other. This team is going to be a problem in Ireland. It’s going to be a problem.”

While it was an impressive final day comeback and it's easy to see why Snedeker thinks Furyk's Team USA will be a problem for Europe next year, some might argue the final day singles papered over the cracks and put an end to any possible inquest after a difficult first three days for the home team.

A loss might have forced a change of strategy and some honest analysis, whereas the victory could ensure the Americans arrive in Ireland next year without fully correcting what went wrong on a disastrous day two and three after leading 3-2 on Thursday night.

In fact, it was eerily similar to last year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage, where the Americans won 8.5-3.5 to 'only' lose 15-13 and avoid a truly humiliating defeat after being outclassed over the first two days.

Snedeker's Americans, despite holding a significant advantage over the Internationals on paper, trailed 7.5-10.5 heading into the final day, with the captain admitting he made mistakes in setting his team up.

He also claimed he is "tired of hearing how we can't play team golf," but the doubles sessions once again showed the Americans have work to do.

In particular, the foursomes results will cause concern for Furyk ahead of Adare Manor.

That's because since winning the foursomes 6-3 over the Internationals at Quail Hollow in 2022, the US has lost the alternate shot format heavily in every cup since.

In fact, the Americans have been swept three times in foursomes sessions since the 2023 Ryder Cup, losing 4-0 on day one at Marco Simone and twice 5-0 against the Internationals this year and in 2024.

Since 2023, they are 8-26 in the foursomes...which will be music to Luke Donald's ears.

Donald will certainly have concern in the singles, though, as the Americans have not lost a singles session in any Ryder or Presidents Cup since Le Golf National in 2018, when they went down 7.5-4.5.

They dominated the Internationals 9.5-2.5 at Medinah after beating Europe 8.5-3.5 at Bethpage two years ago, with the team's individual strengths showing up on both occasions.

The Europeans will argue Team USA were trailing in each instance and therefore had nothing to lose, and both times they were buoyed on by the increasingly partisan home crowds.

On away soil in the most recent Ryder Cups they went 6-6 in Rome and lost in Paris so it could well be a different scenario when they don't have the home crowd cheering them on.

Despite a worrying foursomes trend, an away crowd to deal with and a much stronger opposition awaiting them in Ireland, there are plenty of positives for the Americans to take across the pond.

Scottie Scheffler won three points from four matches to dispell the myth that the World No.1 can't play team golf, and Snedeker's Jackson Koivun pick looks to have been a masterstroke.

The former World No.1 amateur, who won in just his third PGA Tour start, looks set to only improve after completing his Presidents Cup debut as the only American to go undefeated.

In 12 months' time he should be an even fiercer prospect, and Furyk will hope to put the first three days of the 2026 Presidents Cup, and the first two of last year's Ryder Cup, behind them.

Saying that, though, the Americans have plenty of work to do with their partnerships and this past weekend's events in Chicago will have only given Luke Donald and his team extra confidence.

His team is far better than Geoff Ogilvy's on paper and a home crowd means his 12 men could well be favorites despite welcoming a US team stacked with the world's best players once again.

While the Americans have struggled in the doubles sessions and lack obvious partnerships, Donald already knows the teams of Rahm/Hatton, Fleetwood/McIlroy and likely a couple more will be ready to go once again.

The 2026 Presidents Cup was a win for Team USA on paper, but did it paper over cracks? We'll find out in a year's time.

Brown earned one of the 10 dual-membership opportunities via his excellent play on the DP World Tour in 2025 with his emotional win at the BMW International Open a significant reason behind his chance to compete on the PGA Tour this year.

In something of a sliding doors moment, Brown was due to finish 11th in the list of eligible pros but Laurie Canter's decision to join LIV Golf before the new PGA Tour season had begun meant his compatriot was promoted instead.

However, off the back of a campaign which featured a title and five other top-10s (two of which were runner-up finishes), the two-time DP World Tour winner largely struggled in his first venture on US soil.

The 31-year-old finished inside the top-20 on debut at the Sony Open but missed the cut in five of his next seven PGA Tour starts. In the two appearances where Brown did make the weekend, he ended T30th and T40th respectively.

With results on the course not improving during the second half of the PGA Tour campaign, Brown sat well outside the top-100 in the FedExCup standings prior to the FedExCup Fall portion.

Making a tough year worse, Brown has also been struggling with a nagging wrist injury for a while now - a problem which has caused him to withdraw from both the British Masters and the BMW PGA Championship.

The former World No.67 has played only once since finishing T18th at The Open in July - a T16th result at the DP World Tour's Nexo Championship midway through August.

He had planned to have an injection in order to compete at the Irish Open earlier this month but ultimately decided against that course of action.

Now, Brown has revealed on social media that he will not resume his career on the PGA Tour and instead is committing to a run on his home circuit for the foreseeable future.

In a post published to his Instagram account, the Englishman explained: "Due to the recent health and injury issues I have made the difficult decision to not go back to the [PGA Tour] for the rest of the 2026 season.

"Having had a few days to think about things and after Wentworth I don’t feel as though I’m in the right place mentally and physically to see things out the way I would’ve liked.

"Huge thank you to everyone in America who made me feel welcome, I’ve been fortunate enough to have played some amazing golf tournaments and made some new friends along the way.

"So with that I will be playing the rest of the year on [the DP World Tour], a place in which I’m comfortable and can in turn surround myself with people who I feel can get me back on the right track.

"Lastly a huge thank you to all my family, friends and sponsors who have stuck by me through a frustrating period."

Brown is exempt on the DP World Tour through the end of next term on the DP World Tour thanks to his win in Germany last year.

Nevertheless, one of the circuit's biggest characters will undoubtedly be aiming to extend his stay beyond that via a return to the kind of form which helped him rise into the world's top-70 back in January.

Brown's first start since announcing his future plans will come at this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland where a fantastic field has been assembled for the unique tournament at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie.

Geoff Ogilvy's team began day three with a 7-3 lead after completing a clean sweep to beat the US 5-0 in the Friday foursomes at Medinah.

The Saturday four-ball session was a far tighter affair. After the US started brightly, going ahead in all four matches at one stage, the Internationals clawed their way back into the session, pegging the hosts back by 2.5-1.5.

That left the scores at 8.5-5.5 in favor of the Internationals ahead of the foursomes.

Once again, Brandt Snedeker's Team USA started well, but as in the morning, the Internationals came back into it.

Cameron Young and Chris Gotterup were the first to get a US point on the board in the afternoon with a comprehensive 6&4 win over Adam Scott and Sungjae Im.

It got better for the US when Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele beat Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim 2&1.

However, the next two points went to the Internationals, beginning with Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee's 3&2 win over Sam Burns and Wyndham Clark.

A second Internationals point came when Corey Conners and Nick Taylor completed a remarkable comeback from 3-down after 10 holes to beat Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman 1-up.

With the session finishing 2-2, it leaves the Internationals with a 10.5-7.5 lead, with 15.5 points needed for outright victory.

The remaining 12 points will be distributed in the 12 Sunday singles matches, with Ogilvy leaving some of his best players until later.

The first to go out will be Cameron Young and Ryo Hisatsune at 12:02pm ET (5:02pm BST).

Big matchups include Collin Morikawa vs. Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Cantlay vs. Adam Scott. Meanwhile, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will play Nico Echavarria.

Beginning the day 7-3 behind, the US rallied early, taking the lead in all four matches to offer hope of going into the Saturday afternoon foursomes with parity restored.

That didn't quite happen, with the Internationals winning 1.5 points.

Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim secured a 2&1 win over Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark, with another half a point coming courtesy of a tie in the match between Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im and Justin Thomas and Jackson Koivun.

The US finally got its first full point on the board since Thursday when Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young completed a 2&1 win over Nick Taylor and Corey Conners.

Until late on, the match between Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns and Hideki Matsuyma and Ryo Histatsune could have gone either way.

However, Burns and Scheffler produced the goods when it mattered, winning the last three holes of their match against Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Hisatsune to earn another crucial point.

That leaves the Internationals leading 8.5-5.5, setting up a crucial afternoon foursomes session, where four of the remaining 16 points will be available.

The first match sees Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay take on Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim.

Jacob Bridgeman and Russell Henley face Nick Taylor and Corey Conners.

Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young play Adam Scott and Sungjae Im in the third match.

However, Geoff Ogilvy’s team has a significant advantage heading into day three at Medinah thanks to a stunning foursomes session on Friday.

The day started with Brandt Snedeker’s hosts holding a 3-2 lead following the opening day of foursomes, but for the second consecutive edition of the match, Friday had a sting in the tail for the US.

Two years ago at Royal Montreal, the Internationals fought back from a 5-0 drubbing in the four-ball session to return the favour with a whitewash of the US in the foursomes on day two.

They repeated that feat on day two in Chicago, and this time it sent the Internationals into a 7-3 lead ahead of Saturday’s four-ball and foursomes sessions.

Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama secured the first point of the day for the Internationals with a 3&2 win over Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman.

That drew the Internationals level in the match, but it soon got better when Corey Conners and Nick Taylor claimed a 1-up win over Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns.

Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee then beat Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark by the same score before Adam Scott and Christiaan Bezuidenhout secured a 3&2 win over Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.

Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim completed the rout with a 4&3 win over Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele after the latter missed a short putt to extend the match.

With their tails up, the Internationals will be determined to press home their advantage, although the US will know a strong four-ball session on Saturday morning will see them right back in it.

The four-ball session gets underway at 8:02am ET (1:02pm BST) with Justin Thomas and Jackson Koivun vs Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im.

It looks like there's a perfect storm brewing with changes to the PGA Tour coming in 2028 effectively ending the season around the end of August.

Coupled with the DP World Tour now adding a few more national opens to what's already a solid line-up of events on it's Back 9 and all the ingredients seem to be there for officials at Wentworth to try and build a star-studded 'Fall Series' type of run.

LIV Golf stars still being banned from the PGA Tour next year should see an influx of big names into DP World Tour events in 2027, and if this year's anything to go by once they get a taste of the courses, crowds and history of tournaments available they'll be hooked.

So if the DP World Tour plays its cards right the strong events scheduled in September and October next year, either side of the Ryder Cup, could be filled with big names and really raise their profile.

Then once the PGA Tour season changes in 2028 kick in, the door will be wide open for European and international golf to become the epicentre of the action - a 'Fall Series' if you will.

That's something Ludvig Aberg certainly agrees with, saying: "Yeah, absolutely. I think the way PGA Tour is going to change in '28, I think it opens up for that.

"Last couple years for me, I've spent majority of the first part of the year, first six months over in the US, and then I'd like to come over here and play.

"And if that includes playing some good events, good tournaments, big golf courses, I'm definitely going to be all for that. And I think the way the Tour schedule is going to work in '28, I think there would be an opportunity for that."

Viktor Hovland agrees that a Fall Series seeing elite players flock to Europe "would be a great, great situation".

"I do want this fall season to be strong," he added. "And I think it seems like a lot of big-time players are going to come over here and play, which I think is great, and I'd like to play a few more tournaments in the future.

"So, yeah, if these tournaments can improve in strength, I'm all for it."

Why is DP World Tour in the fall so attractive?

The likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and other elite Europeans are all singing the same tune - with McIlroy cutting down his PGA Tour schedule and increasing his global commitments in the fall.

But it's a similar story coming from American golfers. Patrick Reed has long been a regular on the DP World Tour, Brooks Koepka is playing more and recent BMW PGA Championship winner JJ Spaun is a huge fan.

"I think the new structure of the PGA Tour and schedule moving forward, especially in 2028, this will give us more opportunity, more time, to play events broad," said 2025 US Open champion Spaun.

"I definitely feel like I'm going to plan a little bit more of a global schedule or a European schedule moving forward in the fall time."

Getting out an experiencing new countries and new cultures is an obvious attraction for golfers, while the history of some of the tournaments on offer is also a selling point.

Ryan Gerard added: "The DP World Tour is a great tour and we're lucky to have fantastic events like this one that I can come play in what would technically be the offseason on the PGA Tour.

"I just enjoy playing golf. There's a lot of really awesome places outside of the United States that we don't get to go to very often."

Community spirit in Europe enticing Americans

But what really shines through from players talking about the DP World Tour is the sense of community and the different atmosphere surrounding the tournaments.

"The community's great," said Spaun. "The spectators and fans are great. The boys on this tour are great. The support's awesome. It's been a brilliant time."

And that's echoed by Hovland, who admits he's "Americanized" after living in the United States for almost a decade, so he can really notice the difference.

"It's maybe a little bit more relaxed, and it feels like you can maybe get to know other competitors or other people a little bit more than I'd say on the PGA Tour," said the proud Norwegian.

"And it's very competitive over there. Everyone has like their own team and they have their own schedule that they abide by very strictly.

"Over here, everyone kind of seems to stay at the same hotels, go to the same restaurants for dinner. You know, it's just a little different vibe. And I do quite enjoy it. But I think mostly just because, you know, that is more the European culture, I'd say."

If the big names keep coming to Europe next year, it could be a seminal moment for the DP World Tour to really increase its standing in the global game.

Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns finally got their first win as a pairing for Team USA at the fifth time of asking, and they're again going out in the first of Friday's five matches.

The Americans will face an all-Canadian duo this time around as Corey Conners and Nick Taylor will lead out Geoff Ogilviy's International Team.

It's the tougher format on Friday with the alternate shot foursomes putting a lot more pressure on players than Thursday's opening four balls.

There's a new pairing for the USA going out second, with debutant Jacob Bridgeman partnering Russell Henley to take on South Korean Sungjae Im and Japan's former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.

Matsuyama was a winner on Thursday with compatriot Ryo Hisatsune as they took down Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele 3&1.

Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa beat Ryan Fox and Adam Scott on Thursday - and Fox will get his chance for swift revenge as he takes on the same American duo again but this time alongside Min Woo Lee.

Scott goes out with South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout this time in match four against Cameron Young and Justin Thomas - who partnered young Jackson Koivun to victory in his debut.

The anchor match looks a beauty too - with Thursday winners Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim staying together and facing the crack American partnership of Xander Schuaffele and Patrick Cantlay.

How To Watch Presidents Cup 2026

Team USA return to the scene of that epic 2012 Ryder Cup disaster just outside Chicago hoping for much better fortunes as Brandt Snedeker's side look to continue their dominance over the International team.

And Snedeker has gone big to start off with World No.1 Scottie Scheffler leading from the front as he plays alongside his buddy Sam Burns in the USA's first four ball pairing.

Geoff Ogilvy sends out a pretty exciting looking partnership himself with Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im heading out in the first of five four ball matches in the opening session.

Five foursome matches will then take place on Friday at Medinah, before two sessions on Saturday containing both formats and the Sunday singles - with the first to 15.5 points winning the Presidents Cup.

The USA, who have won 13 of the 15 previous editions with just one defeat and one tie, are huge favourites once again at Medinah.

Snedeker will hope Burns can get the best out of Scheffler, who has a surprisingly poor record in team golf with a 6-11-4 return across his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup appearances.

Cameron Young, who impressed at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, is paired with Xander Schauffele to take on Japanese duo Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Hisatsune in Thursday's second match.

And 21-year-old Jackson Koivun will make his Presidents Cup debut a little over three months after claiming his second NCAA title with Auburn.

Koivun, who played in the Junior Presidents Cup just four years ago as a high school senior, has been given the experienced Justin Thomas as a partner for his first taste of senior team golf with the USA.

Corey Conners and Nico Echavarria will be taking on Thomas and Koivun in match three.

Ogilvy will be hoping former Masters champion Adam Scott and newly crowned Open champion Ryan Fox will form a crack partnership this week - their first task is to take on fellow Major champions Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa.

And Thursday's final pairing sees the bundle of energy that is Tom Kim partnered with Si Woo Kim to take on Chris Gotterup and Patrick Cantlay.

Having Tom Kim facing Cantlay is very much a fire and ice battle for the anchor match of the session.

How to watch the 2026 Presidents Cup on TV

However, a lot of golf has to be played first and in various formats of match play.

Unlike the Ryder Cup, which is held over three days, the Presidents Cup takes place over four days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

Across those four days, nine foursomes matches, nine four ball matches and 12 singles matches are played to determine which team takes the glory.

And if you're not sure what these different formats are, here's how each works ahead of this week's contest at Medinah Country Club.

FOUR BALLS (THURSDAY AND SATURDAY)

The 2026 Presidents Cup will start with five four ball matches. Also known as "best ball," this is where all four players in a match - two teams of two - play their own ball on each hole.

It is, on paper, an easier form of match play than foursomes and is a firm favourite of club golfers, as you are responsible for your own ball and don't have to worry as much about hitting a bad shot and leaving your teammate in trouble.

Tactics play a big part in this format. One player might go out with an aggressive strategy and take on more risk, while their teammate plays more conservatively.

The team with the lower score on the hole wins, and it's halved with a tie.

The overall winner of the match gets one point for their team, while if the match finishes tied, it's half a point for each team.

FOURSOMES (FRIDAY AND SATURDAY)

Foursomes is different and more difficult. Also known as "alternate shot", players in teams of two take it in turns to hit shots.

One partner tees off on the odd-numbered holes, so that player would hit the opening tee shot, while the other takes the evens. After the tee shot players continue to alternate shots until the ball is holed.

Again, the team with the lower score on the hole wins. And if the scores are tied, the hole is halved.

The overall winner of the match gets one point for their team and half a point is awarded if it ends in a tie.

This format requires good strategy and excellent communication skills. Players need to work together to ensure they play to their strengths and get the ball in the hole as efficiently as possible.

Another interesting aspect of foursomes is who uses whose ball - and players who use the same model or a similar type are often easy to pair together.

In the Presidents Cup this year, there will be five foursomes matches on Friday morning and four on Saturday.

SINGLES (SUNDAY)

While some players on each team sit out in the foursomes and four ball sessions (only 10 players compete out of the 12), everyone plays in the Sunday singles.

This is a straight head-to-head battle, with all 12 players from each team on the course battling to win a crucial point that could determine who wins the Presidents Cup.

The lowest score on each hole wins, while if it is tied, the hole is halved.

The overall winner of the match gets one point for their team and if the match finishes tied, it's half a point for each team.

How many points do you need to win the Presidents Cup?

There are 30 matches in the Presidents Cup, meaning there are 30 points up for grabs.

So, to win the Presidents Cup you need at least 15.5 points.

However, unlike in the Ryder Cup, if the match ends in a 15-15 tie, there is no rule that states the holders get to retain the trophy.

It has only happened once in the history of the Presidents Cup, in 2003 in South Africa when the US fought back from trailing by three points going into the Sunday singles. That led to a 1 vs 1 playoff but it was deemed a tie once the light had faded.

It is the first time on foreign soil, and only the fourth time ever, that the International Team has held the lead going into the singles of the Presidents Cup.

But only once before have they turned a lead at the start of the singles session into a Cup-winning performance – in 1998, when they led going into the singles by a massive 9 points. In 2003, the USA side clawed back a three-point deficit to tie the match and retain the cup. In 2019, USA overturned a two-point deficit to win the match 16-14.

The scale of the Internationals’ task is still huge. In every match today bar one, the USA player outguns their opponent in the Official World Golf Rankings, sometimes massively so.

For example the first match out is third-ranked Cam Young against 67th-ranked Ryo Hisatsune.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who lost his singles matches in his previous two appearances, is fourth out and against 61st-ranked Nico Echavarria.

Presidents Cup: Preview

The Presidents Cup is a biennial event that pits the best 12 players from the United States against the best dozen from the rest of the world outside of Europe.

Seven of the world’s top 10 ranked golfers are playing, headed by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, all of them on the US side.

In contrast, the highest-ranked players for the International team are 14th-ranked Si Woo Kim and 22nd-ranked Ryan Fox. New Zealander Fox, 39, and this year’s Open champion, is making his Cup debut, as is 38-year-old Canadian Nick Taylor.

Adam Scott is playing in his 12th Presidents Cup, which draws him level with Phil Mickelson for the most appearances.

Team USA has won 13 of the 15 Cups held and tied another. In seeking an 11th successive victory, the US team is looking to maintain its record of winning every home Presidents Cup.

Each side comprises six qualifiers and six captain’s picks. For the US side, qualification was based on weighted FedExCup points since January 2025. For the International side, automatic qualification was based on the Official World Golf Ranking.

If this year's Presidents Cup is remotely as dramatic, fans are in for a treat.

The US, captained by Brandt Snedeker, are the holders and heavy favorites to successfully defend the cup, but Geoff Ogilvy will be fired up to lead his International Team to a rare victory.

So how well do you know the match? Here are 13 facts about the Presidents Cup:

Created to rival the Ryder Cup

The Presidents Cup was the brainchild of former PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem.

As the Ryder Cup turned into a behemoth of an event in the early 1990s, it was only natural for the PGA Tour to want to create something similar.

With a wealth of international talent at the time outside of Europe, there was plenty of merit to the idea and in 1994, the first US and International teams went toe-to-toe at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.

The US prevailed 20-12, setting the tone for the event.

Internationals have won just once

In the 32-year history of the Presidents Cup, only once has the International Team tasted victory.

Captained by Australia’s Peter Thomson at Royal Melbourne, the hosts stormed to a 20.5-11.5 win, which remains the second-largest margin of victory.

There has only been one tie

The 2003 Presidents Cup is perhaps the most famous of them all. Gary Player took on the International captaincy for the first time, pitting his wits against Jack Nicklaus at Fancourt in South Africa.

What ensued was a tussle for the ages. The hosts swept the Saturday fourballs 6-0 to take a three-point lead into the Sunday singles, but the US showcased all their quality to hit back.

They took 7.5 of the 12 on offer to tie the score at 17-17. However, unlike the Ryder Cup, that does not mean the holders get to retain the cup.

In 2003, that meant Player and Nicklaus had to pick one player each for a playoff. Ernie Els and Tiger Woods were chosen for their respective teams and took each other on as darkness fell.

In the end, the pair could not be separated after three holes before it was declared a tie with no more daylight left to continue.

The US have dominated

Since losing in 1998, the US have gone undefeated. Their overall record is 13-1-1 and they are on a winning streak of 10 in a row.

This has led to several suggestions over the years of changes to the Presidents Cup to make the event more competitive.

How the trophy was created

Any event featuring a host of the world’s best golfers needs a fitting trophy, and there’s no doubt the Presidents Cup ticks the boxes.

According to the PGA Tour website, it was created by Tiffany & Company and weighs a total of 28 pounds.

It was made using five sterling silver circles, which were spun by a spinner into five different shapes. Those components were then fashioned into a cup by a silversmith.

The beaded embellishment that goes around the cup and the foot of the trophy was then created before the oval logo was etched and applied on.

The entire trophy is vermeil in 24-carat gold, and the original is kept inside the World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst.

Two tied for most appearances

Phil Mickelson previously held the record for most appearances with 12 but Adam Scott’s inclusion this year has drawn him level, while the Australian could yet go on to set a new record if he continues to stay so sharp as he approaches 50.

Most points

Mickelson still holds the solo record for the most points won in Presidents Cup history. Across his 12 appearances, he racked up an impressive 32.5 points (26-16-13).

That record is safe from Scott, too, with the Australian currently on 23 points.

Most singles points

It’s another American in Tiger Woods who has won the most points in the singles matches. Woods played in the Presidents Cup nine times and amassed seven points from singles contests alone (7-2-0).

Most foursomes points

Mickelson tops the table again here with 14 foursomes points from 22 matches (12-6-4).

Most fourball points

The longevity of Mickelson once again has him leading the way for points won in fourball matches with 13 (10-5-6).

Most points in a single Presidents Cup

The maximum points on offer at a single Presidents Cup is five and six players have managed to achieve this clean sweep.

Oldest player

Jay Haas was 49 years and 353 days old when he competed for the US in the 2003 Presidents Cup, making him the oldest player in he history of the event.

Youngest player

On the flip side, Ryo Ishikawa was just 18 years and 21 days old when he suited up in the International colors for the 2009 Presidents Cup.

This time, the US is the host nation, with the four-day match coming from Medinah in Illinois.

Home advantage and recent success aren't the only factors pointing towards another US victory in 2026 – the history of the Presidents Cup also offers an indication as to why the Internationals enter the match as heavy underdogs.

In the previous 15 editions of the Presidents Cup, the US has won on 13 occasions. Of the remaining two, the only victory secured by the Internationals was a 20.5-11.5 win at Royal Melbourne in 1998. The other match, in 2003, was tied 17-17.

That doesn’t quite tell the whole story, with factors like current world ranking, the FedExCup standings of the players and previous experience all coming into the equation.

So, do they offer hope for the Internationals, or will Brandt Snedeker’s team prove the bookies correct with another US victory?

Looking at the 12 players on the US team, it’s hard to argue against its credentials.

Snedeker's team includes seven of the world's top 10. As was the case at the 2024 Presidents Cup, Scottie Scheffler is the World No.1. Cameron Young and US Open champion Wyndham Clark are also in the world's top five.

The lowest-ranked player in the US team is Jackson Koivun, in 57th. However, that is partly because he only turned pro in June, while he already has a PGA Tour title, which came at the 3M Open.

The overall average of the US team is 15.08, whereas the average for the Internationals is 50.1.

Unlike the US, none of the Internationals team is in the top 10 of the world rankings, with Si Woo Kim the highest, at 14th. Christiaan Bezuidenhout is the lowest in the rankings, at 104th.

The FedExCup standings of the players tell a similar story.

As the winner of the Tour Championship, Scheffler is first in the rankings, but three of the US team, Russell Henley, Chris Gotterup and Jacob Bridgeman, finished T4 at East Lake, which reflects their position in the standings.

The average FedExCup position of the US team is 18.5, compared with 36.5 for the Internationals.

Min Woo Lee is top of the list in T4, with Bezuidenhout the lowest in 97th.

One silver lining for the Internationals comes with Presidents Cup experience.

While Geoff Ogilvy's visitors have four rookies in the team to the US's three, the average number of Presidents Cup appearances stands at 2.5 compared to the US's two.

That's largely thanks to the inclusion of the vastly experienced Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama in the Internationals line-up, with the two racking up 17 appearances between them ahead of the 2026 match.

For the US, six players have three previous appearances, but no one can get close to Matsuyama's six or Scott's 11.

While the Internationals can point to their greater Presidents Cup experience, it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to overcome the rankings gaps, history and home advantage when the action gets underway at Medinah.

Dating back to the inaugural edition in 1994, the US boast a Presidents Cup record of 13-1-1, with the International's sole victory coming in 1998.

However, Geoff Ogilvy's men are now narrow favorites to win at Medinah, with a 10.5-7.5 lead with 12 points to play four in the Sunday singles.

The US were 3-2 ahead after the fourballs on Thursday, but they lost all five matches in the alternate-shot format on day two as the International team produced a stunning fightback to take a 7-3 lead.
