Maximum Stability

You might not think that the shaft is overly important in a putter but the Stroke Lab Weighting here means that they’ve shaved 40 grams off the shaft and redistributed it to the head and grip to help with balance and tempo.

The 2021 version is both stiffer and lighter and the result is fantastic with a very stable putter that rests perfectly behind the ball and makes the task of rolling the ball end over end so much simpler. It should come as no surprise then that we included this design in our guide on the best putters in all of golf. 

Cutting-edge Alignment

The technical term for the Triple Track innovation is Vernier Hyper Acuity which, in its simplest terms, refers to the ability of the brain to process subtle differences in alignment detected in the eyes. It’s the same visual clues that pilots use to land on aircraft carriers and here it makes the player really focus down on finding the middle of the putter face.

It first came about in the ERC Soft ball and expanded into their putters when Callaway’s Sean Toulon drew two blue lines on a 2-Ball putter and, not having a red Sharpie, his right-hand man Luke Williams added in a line down the middle.

All the Ten putters feature the Microhinge Star insert which helps to get the ball rolling forward and end over end and also produces a great sounding putt. This putter comes in both a double bend and S-neck so there is the option of a face-balanced putter or one with some toe hang.

The dimensions here make this so forgiving it’s almost unfair.

Odyssey has today announced two new mallet putter head shapes that form the Ten range. Last year's Ten shape was a big success on Tour and with consumers and the new 2021 Ten range looks to build on that by offering even more choice.

The brand new Ten and 2-Ball Ten brings Odyssey's famous 2-Ball alignment to the Ten family for the first time.

It is a flat stick that Odyssey is calling its best 2-Ball putter ever, so it's no surprise to see it already in the bag of Jon Rahm.

This proven head design puts an emphasis on alignment and high MOI, and Odyssey has improved on those two key performance features dramatically for 2021.

Despite there being only two head shapes, there are actually ten different putter options available when factoring in the different hosel and alignment choices.

The Odyssey Ten putter comes with either the Triple Track Alignment or standard alignment, the latter comprising a single line. The Ten also comes in either single or double bend hosel options to change the toe hang of the putter.

The 2-Ball Ten comes in either Tour Lined or plain, with or without Triple Track and in either single or double bend hosel options to suit the majority of golfers' strokes and visual preferences.

Odyssey has also tweaked its Stroke Lab shafts for this year, just like we saw on the White Hot OG range. The multi-material shaft is now stiffer, more stable and seven grams lighter than its predecessor to enhance the tempo and consistency in the putting stroke.

The White Hot Microhinge face insert also makes a return in the new putter line-up. This high-performance insert promotes immediate forward roll for improved speed and control.

The Odyssey Ten and 2-Ball Ten will be available at retailers from 11th March 2021 with an RRP of £299.

Odyssey’s Triple Track range features seven different models all inspired by the Triple Track technology alignment system seen on some of Callaway’s recent golf balls. This system makes use of Vernier Hyper Acuity, the same visual technology used to land planes on aircraft carriers, so should do a pretty good job of helping you line up putts!

That’s certainly what we found when testing the Ten model, and even thought it works best when also using a Callaway golf ball with the same markings, it is still pretty effective if you prefer your golf ball to have a cleaner look.

Even taking the Triple Track alignment feature out of the equation, these putters are excellent. The premium black PVD finish provides a strong look, with the Microhinge Star face providing a solid feel and soft sound, and the Stroke Lab shaft system making it easy to keep things balanced. In our testing, our short to mid-range putts improved almost immediately.

The power to convert

We reckon Triple Track certainly has the potential to convert golfers who have previously not relied on a line on the ball to line up putts. You get the most assistance from the larger-headed mallets in the range in terms of both alignment and stability, and many golfers will be delighted to see that there is a Triple Track version of Odyssey’s ever-popular 2-Ball model.

Indeed, most of the models are mallets as you might expect, but there are a couple of more blade-style Triple Track putters too for those wanting something a little less fussy.

The entire face features deep cross-hatch grooves that help to control sound and feel by channelling vibration, while a small groove inside each diamond pattern on the face promotes a consistent forward roll.

We loved the way this putter felt off the face and rolled the ball but if the weight isn’t quite right for you, a separately available adjustable sole plate weighting system allows you to replace the standard 20g weight with 7g or 40g options. The standard 20g option worked well for us, though, rolling the ball beautifully from all ranges.

The new Odyssey Triple Track putter line was obviously inspired by the Triple Track technology first seen on Callaway’s golf balls.

The three lines that are prominently featured at the centre of each putter head utilize Vernier Hyper Acuity, the same visual technology used to land planes on aircraft carriers, to easily improve your alignment for better putting accuracy. Having it on the putters is said to help make consistently solid contact and start the ball on the target-line with more regularity.

The putters also feature the impressive Stroke Lab shaft, engineered to help improve the tempo and consistency in your stroke, as well as a premium black PVD finish.

On the face, the Microhinge Star Insert creates a firmer feel and pleasing sound at impact while providing the same roll characteristics as the White Hot Microhinge insert.

There are five shapes to choose from - the Marxman, Double Wide, Ten, 2-Ball and 2-Ball blade - all on sale from January 30th with an RRP of £239-£269 depending on the model.

Odyssey is also expanding its new Stroke Lab Black Range. The Ten and Bird of Prey models were launched late last year and five more shapes have now been added.

Odyssey has unveiled two innovative new putter models within its popular Stroke Lab family.

The Odyssey Stroke Lab Black Ten and Black Bird of Prey are engineered with a super high MOI construction and the performance-enhancing Stroke Lab weight distribution to impart a more consistent putting stroke.

Inspired by the #7 and Indianapolis shapes, the Ten offers premium materials and performance in two neck options of slant or double bend while the Bird of Prey offers a slightly more compact profile.

In the Stroke Lab Black Ten and Stroke Lab Black Bird of Prey, a multi-material head construction promotes exceptionally high MOI for more stability. Additionally, a new Microhinge Star Insert creates a firmer feel and pleasing sound at impact while providing the same roll characteristics of Odyssey’s Tour-proven White Hot Microhinge, while the hi-def alignment makes it easy to find the right setup at address.

The multi-material Stroke Lab shaft helps to improve tempo and consistency in a player’s stroke through a profound change in weight distribution.

It is a full 40 grams lighter, and Odyssey has redistributed that saved weight by adding 10g to the head in the form of two sole weights, and adding 30g to the grip-end via a 10g-lighter grip and 40g end-weight.

Both of these new putter models will be available from January 31st 2020 with an RRP of £269.

Key Technology

Looks There’s a wide variety of alignment options to help you set the putter in line with your target. These range from long, white sightlines that are thick or thin as well as single or multiple to the proven 2-ball Fang.

Performance This unique putter range has innovations from top to bottom to help golfers improve the consistency of their putting. You can notice the difference in feel from the Stroke Lab shaft construction. It certainly makes the putters feel a little heavier in the head and on longer putts there seems to be less kick in the shaft at the point of impact.

Overall, our tempo felt smoother and the clubface seemed to want to return to square more often than not. We also really enjoyed the feel of these putters – it’s buttery soft with only a very subtle sound off the face. The roll of the ball is exceptional.

In fact, testing on the Foresight Sports GCQuad launch monitor has shown us that the Microhinge face is effective at reducing skid compared with milled faces and other groove technology. Getting the ball rolling end over end earlier means there’s more chance it will stay on line, which is why our putting from short- and mid-range especially seemed to improve the most.

The #1 and #3 models are classy blades, but forgiveness from the larger mallet shapes like the Tuttle, Marxman and V-Line also impressed and they offered extra alignment help to improve accuracy and consistency of roll out on slight mishits.

Odyssey has unveiled its new StrokeLab putter range for 2019.

It features 10 different head shapes, six mallets and four blades, all of which boast a new White Hot Microhinge insert that enables a smoother roll and improved feel.

We first saw a glimpse of the StrokeLab putters at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, where Danny Willett prevailed using the Tuttle model below.

But the big talking point of the putters is the shaft. The StrokeLab putters are said to improve the stroke through a change in weight distribution.

The tip-heavy shafts are 40 grams lighter than an Odyssey #7 putter with a design that combines a graphite body with a steel tip.

Odyssey studies show that this improves the consistency of backswing time, face-angle at impact, ball speed and ball direction.

The shaft is also slightly stiffer and lower torque than standard putters in able to better control the heavier putter head.

The additional weight in the sole and butt-end of the grip will also help create more consistency in the swing, allowing for a more smoother and accurate stroke.

“You feel the difference immediately,” said Luke Williams, senior director of putter marketing for Odyssey. “The putter head moves freely, smoothly and on a sound path, helping you roll the ball accurately while giving you greater speed-control.”

“These new putters epitomize what StrokeLab is all about,” said Sean Toulon, senior vice president and general manager of Odyssey. “Questioning the norm for the purpose of developing putters that perform substantially better to help golfers make more putts.”

The head shapes on offer are the #7, #7S, Marxman, Marxman S, 2-Ball Fang, 2-Ball Fang S, Red Ball, Red Ball S, Tuttle, Tuttle Flow, V-Line, V-Line Fang S, V-Line CS, #2, #3; #9, Double Wide and Double Wide Flow in 33", 34" or 35: lengths. The #7, #7S, Marxman, 2-Ball Fang, V-Line, #1, #9 and Double Wide are also available in LH.

This is aimed at golfers who want a modern-looking putter with forgiveness and lots of alignment assistance.

Key technology A weight-saving aluminium red section contrasts with a milled black stainless steel body that increases MOI for greater stability on strikes across the face. An all-new White Hot Microhinge insert is slightly firmer and features Microhinge technology from the O-Works range to improve roll. For a premium look, each head is skim-milled – this is a light yet precise milling process that refines edges and corners while giving the surface a beautiful sheen and feel.

Looks The look at address of the Exo putter is as far from traditional as you’re likely to find. The finish oozes class and the red section, which features alignment lines, stands out prominently and helps frame the ball at address. It also allows you to see the path of your stroke more clearly, which some people may find a little distracting.

Performance The slightly larger head shape over the original Rossie, as well as the stronger perimeter weighting, increases the forgiveness thanks to extra stability - it's noticeable how the feel remains relatively consistent across the face on centre hits as well as slightly heel and toe biased strikes. The Microhinge technology has produced a slightly better roll and a more solid feel off the face over the original too.

The feel and sound should appeal to most golfers too. It's less jumpy than the original White Hot insert, but there's still a slight 'pop' there at impact with what seems like an appropriate amount of speed. The ball also appears to begin rolling end-over-end nice and early on its journey, helping putts stay online, which we notice most from the 6-10 foot range.

Stability and consistency is helped by the Winn grip, which balances a tacky feel with a size that is neither too big or too small and a shape that fits well to assist with tempo and clubface control.

In the new Red Ball putter, Odyssey looks to have created a unique mallet design that helps improve two critical areas that influence a repeatable putting stroke - correct set up and alignment.

Facing up from the sole of the putter is a red ball, as the name suggests. Suspended above this red ball, attached to the white piece on the topline, is a black circle.

The goal at address is to have the red ball positioned inside the black circle when you stand over the ball for a putt. Odyssey says this will aid the consistency of a golfer's set-up position, as well as improving alignment.

If the red ball appears too high in the scope, the golfer knows that his or her eyes are too far outside the ball. Conversely, if the Red Ball is low in the scope the eyes are too far inside the ball/putter.

This concept also works laterally left and right, so if the red ball is too far left of the circle then the eyes are positioned too far in front of the ball/putter and vice versa.

The black and white framing from Odyssey’s Versa high-contrast alignment helps square the face and also position the ball centrally on the face for better strikes.

The Red Ball putter also features Odyssey's White Hot RX face insert, promoting premium sound, feel and roll off the face.

Forgiveness on off-centre hits comes from the weight taken out of the centre of the head and redistributed to the perimeter. This drives up the MOI (resistance to twisting) significantly for more consistent ball speeds and directional control.

The Odyssey Red Ball putter is available in right and left-handed models, with DFX grip as standard and in lengths 33”, 34” and 35”, with an RRP of £169.

The new Odyssey Exo putter range is said to bring together elegant detailing and Tour level performance. On-trend red features alongside traditional black for appealing visuals but there is a lot of technology to make the performance just as big of a talking point.

All three designs take inspiration from two classic head shapes in Rossie (below) and the #7 as well as a more recent shape in the Indy, taken from Odyssey’s Toulon Design family.

Each head is precision-milled, with a weight-saving aluminium red section contrasting with a milled black stainless steel body that increases in MOI for greater stability on strikes across the face.

At impact, an all-new White Hot Microhinge Insert – a slightly firmer Tour-developed insert with an identical feel to the Tour’s original White Hot insert – imparts excellent roll thanks to Microhinge Technology we saw on the O-Works range.

To give the Odyssey Exo putters a premium look, each head is skim-milled - a light, yet precise milling process that refines edges and corners while giving the surface a beautiful sheen and feel.

A limited edition Odyssey EXO 2-Ball Milled putter has been unveiled to celebrate the iconic history of the 2-Ball putter.

The collector’s edition putter was inspired by Swiss watchmakers and pushes engineering and technological boundaries.

Restricted to only a few hundred models outside of America, the Odyssey EXO 2-Ball Milled putter features only the most luxurious materials and construction techniques.

These include a multi-piece construction that takes more than 12 hours per head to precision machine. You'll see a stainless-steel sole, an aluminium top and a 50g tungsten weight beneath two discs with a bezel design inspired by Swiss watchmakers. 

The precision weight is also adjustable so it can be perfectly matched to suit personal preference or on-course conditions.

Odyssey has taken the covers off some new models for its popular O-Works range by launching 12 Odyssey O-Works Black putters and six new O-Works Red head shapes.

Building on the success of O-Works Red line that debuted last July, the new range features 12 all-new Black models, as well as six new Red models. 

The new Black and Red ranges also feature new ‘toe-down’ O-Works mallets. These models are designed to naturally rotate like a blade to appeal to golfers with arcing strokes who have historically struggled for consistency with face-balanced mallets.

Odyssey says it results in better-than-blade forgiveness and alignment, while retaining a similar stroke path offered by a blade. In addition, face-balanced putter models still remain for players with straighter putting strokes.

The new putters will also feature the same Microhinge Face Insert Technology that helps impart more topspin at impact, a design that gets the ball rolling on a smoother path straight from impact.

Odyssey has launched a red range of O-Works putters. Demand for this colour of flat stick has risen sharply since TaylorMade revealed the Spider Tour Red model, which has also become extremely popular on Tour and Odyssey has now created its own range that comprises five head shapes.

The new O-Works Red Putters were driven by extensive feedback from Odyssey staff players that preferred the clean, simple look the colour creates.

They feature the same Microhinge insert as the original O-Works range, which features lots of small hinges that flex at impact to increase topspin and create a better roll of the ball. This is said to help the ball hold its line better, especially on mishits from the heel and toe.

The O-Works Red range includes some of the most popular headshapes, including the iconic 2-Ball, and the #7. There is also an innovative alternative on the #7 model, featuring a short slant neck hosel. This hosel promotes more toe hang, which is a set-up that is becoming more popular on tour.

Other models included within the range are the R-Line mallet and V-Line Fang.

The Odyssey O-Works putter range is for those who require as much help as possible in aligning the putter face as well as a mid-to-soft feel.

Key Technology

Odyssey says its new Microhinge insert technology will help golfers’ ball stay on line more often from different strike locations on the clubface. It does this via increasing topspin thanks to an Elastomer insert that is co-moulded with a new stainless steel Microhinge surface with the individual hinges flexing on impact, lifting the ball to produce a better roll.

New and improved high contrast Versa Alignment Technology with a red highlight line is said to improve alignment. The range comes in nine head shapes, four blades and five mallets, plus tank versions in a blade and mallet.

How we tested

We tried a number of different head shapes, including the #1, #7, R-Line and 2-ball, assessing how easy it was to align the clubface to the target, how consistent the ball rolled from different strike points on the face and also judged the feel, sound and weighting of the putters.

Looks

The contrast between the black and white sections combined with the red sightlines highlights the face angle more prominently than any other putter on the market.

The newest 2-ball iteration reverts to having flanges on either side of the double white ball alignment system, which contrasts sharply with the black outer sections. It’s arguably going to help more golfers with their aim, ball striking and creating a more neutral stroke path.

Feel

We would suggest the range has a mid-to-soft feel, certainly not too soft, while feel of face and distance control is helped by the Superstroke grip option although not everyone will enjoy the grip's stitching running down the back.

The overall sensation off the face is a quieter, more subtle and duller hit. It’s not too soft, a common criticism of previous Odyssey putters, and in fact has a good balance of feel and ball speed.

Forgiveness

While you can’t see the Micro-hinge technology working, the ball certainly does seem to hug the ground nice and early, rolling end over end and staying on line even when you miss the centre of the face.

Overall appeal

The first thing to admire is the range of head shapes included in the line. Whether you prefer a compact blade or the trusty 2-ball (£199), you’ll find a tour-proven head shape to suit your eye and stroke that will also be simple to align. The mid-to-soft feel will match up with the majority of ball types while the topspin the face applied from all ranges of putt was exceptional.

Odyssey has announced the launch of the X-Act Tank Chipper, a club that could make the short game a whole lot easier for golfers.

Odyssey are more known for their putter ranges, like the very popular White Hot RX line band the recently launched Milled Collection RSX putters, but their new X-Act Tank Chipper is built to help get golfers ‘up-and-down’ more easily. It utilises Odyssey’s Tank weighting philosophy to help ensure a smoother swing, promoting more consistent contact.

Chippers are a cross between a wedge and a putter and usually have between 30-40° of loft. They require less wrist action than a wedge, which means golfers often find it easier to achieve more consistent results, especially from just off the green.

Odyssey's latest creation is designed to function like an ‘Approach Putter’, providing an easy-to-hit option that plays perfectly between a putter and a wedge for those tricky shots around the greens. Three premium Limited edition Odyssey Milled Collection RSX putters are set to go on sale in the UK from mid July

The new Odyssey Highway 101 putters have been unveiled, paying tribute to its home town with only 101 units of each of the three head shapes coming to Europe

Carlsbad in California has long been a hot bed for some of the world’s biggest golf brands, and to pay homage to its own hometown, Odyssey has launched a line of limited edition putters dedicated to one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks - Highway 101.

As you can see, the sole images are a tribute to the 101 and California, while the technology also tips its hat to Odyssey’s heritage of innovation, with a new ‘Sound Chamber’ that sits behind the Metal-X insert specifically designed to let more sound reverberate to create a higher pitch than an all-milled face does.

Following on from the White Hot RX line, the new models form a limited edition range, with 1000 units going on sale in America, and just 101 of each shape in Europe.

Three shapes will be available, the ‘fang’ #7, which is currently the number one model on tour, the mid-mallet #5 and the blade #2.

All three models will come with a satin chrome finish, a 350g headweight, a cabretta leather red midsize grip and a Highway 101 themed headcover.

Golf Monthly's Odyssey Toe Up putters review, a pair that feature a unique 'stroke balanced' concept said to reduce clubface rotation

The new pair of Odyssey Toe Up putters brings a relatively new concept to the golf market where the heads are ‘stroke balanced’, meaning it is weighted in such a way whereby the toe of the putter points up to the sky if you were to balance it on your finger.

It a similar concept used by Bryson DeChambeau and his Edel Golf 'Brick' putter but otherwise, use of this style of putter on Tour is scarce. Odyssey have done this by moving more weight to the face of the putter and creating a new hosel configuration, which should mean the clubface rotates much less during the stroke.

In theory, this should suit golfers that currently use a face balanced putter or those that have minimal arc to their stroke. I’ve never really been a subscriber to fitting certain weights of putter to stroke types – we as humans can swing any putter how we want – but after a few putts with these Toe Up putters it becomes clear that there is a noticeable reduction in the face rotating open and then closed during the stroke.

You have to get past the looks first. On both the #1 and #9 models the face sits forward of the shaft, which is unusual to look down on initially. It also tends to mean the face points to the left and you therefore have to lean the shaft forwards to set it square to your target.

Alignment is made simple by the three ‘HD’ white parallel sight lines on the back, which have a darker black outline than the rest of the head to make them stand out. This highlights face angle but also stroke path as well.

With the Metal X face pattern, the roll was very good as you’d expect and they felt very soft too. This feel is helped by the SuperStroke grip, but not everyone will enjoy the stitching at the back of putter grip running in the fingers.

Looks Soft edges on the putter heads, which boast a premium brushed-satin finish combined with blue trim, make these flat sticks very pleasing on the eye. Alignment aids come in various forms across the models, be it lines, shapes or dots. There should be a shape to suit everyone’s preference.

Performance Improving on the most successful putter insert of all time was always going to be difficult but Odyssey feel like they’ve done this with the new White Hot RX line of putters and we can’t help but agree. The first thing you notice is the feel. Odyssey putters have always felt soft but previous generations have at times felt jumpy off the face, especially on short and mid-range putts. But there is no such problem with the new White Hot RX line.

Thanks to the Metal X roll pattern incorporated into the face without the need for a metal mesh on top, the ball seems to hug the ground much earlier on its journey while still feeling soft, meaning it holds its line better and goes in more often when you make a good stroke.

Many will gravitate towards the 2-ball V-Line model, Odyssey’s best-selling putter of all time, thanks to the easy alignment and extra forgiveness and stability. The classic Odyssey pistol grip is perfect adequate but for many the feel of the SuperStroke 3.0 grip, which comes with a £20 upcharge, will genuinely enhance the overall feel and goes a long way to reducing unwanted wrist action.

New Odyssey Toe Up putter range uses Stroke Balance technology to reduces torque so it’s easier to square the face for a more consistent putting stroke

The Stroke Balanced Odyssey Toe Up Putter utilises alternate forward weighting and a hosel ‘Toe Up’ balancing set-up to promote a consistent straight back and through putting stroke.

A similar concept to that employed on the greens by US amateur champion Bryson Dechambeau, Stroke Balanced technology ensures reduced torque during the putting stroke for minimal twisting, making it easier to get the face back to square at impact.

This important design feature is achieved by strategically placing more weight towards the face to balance the putter. In addition, the CG (centre of gravity) is also aligned with the centre of the face.

The Odyssey Backstryke putter used a similar idea in a mallet style putter a few years ago, where the shaft axis was more in line with the centre of gravity to reduce the torque – the tendency for the face to open and close during the stroke. But it was only available in this larger head size and it meant the shaft leaned forward, which was awkward for some people. So the hosel has been redesigned to reduce the torque in a smaller head size, helping the face return to square more often.

The Odyssey White Hot insert has been around for 15 years and is one of the most successful putter technologies of all time. But Odyssey feel like they have improved upon it further with the launch of the White Hot RX series.

The goal was to create a face that felt softer than the Fusion RX insert and improve the roll of the ball. Odyssey's Metal X pattern has done this job in other models but with the current material used on White Hot, implementing these oval patterns wasn't possible.

So new for White Hot RX is a dual layer injected molded insert that has a softer core. This new core material is made of elastomer to offer the feel, ball speed and sound properties and is combined with a new cover material to create the ultimate in speed and feel.

In developing the new cover, Odyssey tested 17 different materials in looking for the right sound and ball speed and well as ensuring the cover was firm enough (harder than a ball’s cover) so that the ovals would create the necessary friction that led to a better roll.

In the past, Odyssey have added texture to the insert to help improve the sound and the look. But when Odyssey moulded the Metal X pattern into the face insert, they couldn’t add texture to the cover as the edges would be rough. So instead, they used a paint coating that increased friction slightly more than if it wasn't there.

Internal testing showed increased top spin over White Hot and lower launch angle, so the ball gets in contact with the ground earlier, reducing the skid phase and improving roll.

The White Hot RX putters come in seven head shapes: #1, #2, #7, #9, Rossie, V-Line Fang and 2-ball. The #2 model is a squared off version of the #1. The #7 has a deeper face based on feedback from consumers. The #9 also has deeper face, there's the ever popular 2-ball and new model called V-Line Fang. This came about from feedback from Japan wanting a mid-sized mallet, so Odyssey took the V-Line model and gave it a #7 treatment.

The Odyssey White Hot RX putters go on sale from February 26th. Prices range from £129 to £189 for the larger Tank versions. Golfers can choose from the standard rubber or SuperStroke grip options.

Models tested We tested the V-Line and Blade models with SuperStroke grips (£20 upcharge). The Odyssey Works Big T putter family includes four mallet head shapes – the V-Line, V-Line CS, #5 and Blade.

Replacing Rather than replacing a family of putters, the Big T range extends the Odyssey Works line, which is the number-one putter used on the European Tour.

Address View The return to having black sections on the crown contrasting with white, rather than silver, to help alignment is a welcome sight. It highlights face angle more prominently and when combined with the Marxman sightlines running from front-to-back, golfers are naturally encouraged to strike the ball from the sweetspot.

Shelf Appeal  The combination of the Versa alignment, White Hot insert and Fusion RX technology alone make this an appealing product. But with the glare-reducing black shaft and the option of a SuperStroke grip with Odyssey design elements, as well as the stability from the mallet designs, the appeal knows no bounds.

Grip  While the stock Lamkin grip offers plenty of feel and is a hand-friendly shape, the experience is enhanced by the SuperStroke 2.0 grip. While some will struggle to justify the £20 upcharge, many will prefer the shape and texture of this popular grip to minimise unwanted wrist action in the stroke.

Face Design Arguably one of the most complex face designs on the market offers a winning formula of a soft feel and subtle sound. The Metal-X pattern, combined with the White Hot insert, creates a consistent roll from a variety of strike points.

Adjustability While you can’t adjust anything on the head, you can choose a shaft length of 33, 34 or 35” and the V-Line also comes in a centre-shafted version. There’s also a more compact #5 mid-mallet model.

Stroke Type All the models within the Big T range are mallets. These larger head designs have a higher MOI than blade putters and are face balanced, which tends to make them more suited to strokes with a squarer path. That said, both our models seemed to work perfectly well for a slightly arced stroke.

Forgiveness On a long list of performance benefits, forgiveness is right up there. The larger shape immediately increases the clubhead’s resistance to twisting on off-centre strikes, while the Fusion RX mesh seemed to help the ball roll out when struck from the heel and toe on long-range putts.

Consistency Not only was the consistency of roll spot on, but the ease with which you square the face is surprising. The Big T crown aesthetics subliminally help you track the path of your putter through the stroke. Add in the stronger face-angle alignment assistance and the enhanced feel from the grip and starting the ball on line is simple.

Distance Control The older White Hot putters tended to pop off the face faster than most. This is much less obvious on the Big T models, with the ball coming off the face more controllably while maintaining excellent feel and rolling truer for longer.

Feel The 350g weight in the head helps to create a smooth tempo in your stroke. The feel from the face is soft, creating a subtle, gentle pop before the ball starts to roll. The club feels well balanced and any golfer familiar with a mallet would improve their performance with a Big T.

Distance control has improved slightly with the new face technology. Tank models are good if you struggle with tempo or distance control. The larger SuperStroke grip adds feel and stability.

The #7 model already worked brilliantly for alignment, but now, thanks to the new colour aids, it's even easier to see where the face is aiming both at address and at impact. The theory works on both colour combinations, so which option you choose is down to personal preference.

10) Forgiveness - In terms of looks and forgiveness, this is one of the most impressive head designs on the market. The way the head is weighted makes it feel exceptionally easy to deliver the face square on to the ball. It's a great putter, further enhanced by the new alignment system.

Critical to the insert's enhanced consistency is a new laser milling cutting process that allows Odyssey to achieve extremely tight tolerances and to better match insert shapes to the various White Hot Pro head shapes, resulting in Odyssey delivering better performing products for golfers.

"The White Hot insert was pivotal in catapulting Odyssey to number one in wins, top tens and usage across the world's professional tours," said Austie Rollinson, Principal Designer, Odyssey Golf.

"At Odyssey, we are always striving to give the elite and amateur golfer more ways to sink putts more often, so we took our most popular insert on Tour and engineered it for better overall performance and consistency. The result is the White Hot Pro line of Odyssey putters."

The team at Odyssey has also developed new head shapes for 2013, including a high MOI mallet with a modified High Definition alignment system - called V-Line -- and a smaller version of the popular D.A.R.T. (direction and realignment technology) Putter, called D.A.R.T. Mini.

These D.A.R.T models, along with Odyssey's best-selling 2-Ball model, feature an adjustable weighting system that allows golfers to change the headweight of the standard-length putter from 350 grams to 360 or 370 grams. The weights and a wrench are featured in the White Hot Pro headcover for these models.

White Hot Pro putters feature a Gun Metal PVD finish that creates an industrial, non-glare look that is preferred by many golfers.

The White Hot Pro line of putters from Odyssey will start from £109, with the White Hot Pro Progressive and Mid/Long from £149 and £159.

When Odyssey launched the original White Hot 2-Ball putter in 2001, it set the ball rolling with alignment aid putters. The 2-Ball became the brand's top-selling putter of all time.

Now Odyssey is hoping its new line of Versa putters will represent the next breakthrough in putting alignment.

The black and white, high contrast Versa designs bring a sense of Yin and Yang to the putting green (Yin represents the dark and cold side of the universe in Chinese philosophy; Yang is light and hot).

The striking black and white designs are integral to Odyssey's new ‘High Contrast Alignment' system, and the company promises the visual contrast accentuates the face angle to the golfer's eye at address, which should enable golfers to line-up their putts with greater accuracy.

Odyssey designer Austie Rollinson explains that, "The human visual system is both sensitive to contrast and very good at complex tasks such as edge detection. We utilised both of these skills to create a very effective alignment aid."

The Versa line includes seven head shapes, from a narrow blade, and working up to a 2-Ball, and Odyssey promises a new laser milling process for its White Hot face inserts should improve consistency of strike.

All models come with a price tag of £119, other than the 2-Ball, which is recommended at £169.

The Odyssey ProType Tour Series was born out of unique putters crafted for the best players in the world.

The Odyssey design team – after taking feedback from many touring professionals - have developed a range that enhances feel and creates ideal balance to promote a smooth stroke, whilst offering a great look and performance.

The Odyssey ProType Tour Series putters are made with a 1025 Carbon Steel Head, which produces similar performance characteristics to stainless steel with a softer feel. A deeper, sharper milling pattern on the putter face increases interaction between the face and ball for better feel, truer roll and more consistency.

The finely tuned Proven Tour Headshapes of the putters create ideal balance to promote a smooth stroke.

Headweight Optimisation provides better balance between the shaft and head of the putter, helping to improve feel, control and and accuracy.

All the putters in the ProType Tour Series are polished with a Satin Finish, designed to bring a modern look to an otherwise traditional range, and come equipped with Lamkin 3GEN Pistol Grips - reducing vibration whilst maintaining feel.

The range consists of the Odyssey Protype Tour Series 2-Ball Putter and the Odyssey Protype Tour Number 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 Putters.

The new Metal-X Putter series is the latest range from Odyssey.

Using feedback from tour players Odyssey have created the following putters:

The Metal-X #1 with a rounded heel-toe weighted blade and a mid-length, double-bend shaft with full-shaft offset.

The Metal-X #6 Putter with a squared off heel-toe weighted blade with a wide flange, a short slant-neck hosel and half-shaft offset.

The Metal-X #7 Putter with a modified mallet with weighted alignment wings, a double-bend shaft and full-shaft offset.

The metal-x insert is dual layered to put a consistent, true roll on the ball with amazing feedback and feel.

The 6061 aluminium layer has oval depressions to maximise the mechanical lock with golf ball dimples. This increases friction and helps to impart proper launch of the golf ball, ensuring there is a more consistent and controlled roll.

The midnight black finish provides a durable, glare-reduction finish designed especially based on feedback from tour players.

The thin Lamkin 3Gen Pistol Grip appeals to better players. The soft synthetic rubber reduces vibration allowing forearms to be more relaxed without dulling the feel of the putt.

The new adjustable Odyssey Flip Face putters allow golfers to change the face insert to fine tune feel and performance.

The Odyssey flip face model is unlike anything else on the market, giving golfers the ability to own two putters in one.

One side of the face features a Metal-X Insert – a dual layered insert designed to put a consistent, true roll on the ball with outstanding feedback and feel.

The other side features the White Ice Insert, which has been fine tuned to enhance sound, responsiveness, resiliency and consistency. The face surface is roughened to increase sound at impact and increase friction to promote forward roll.

The putters are completed with a Satin Crome Finish – providing a premium look favoured by many touring professionals - and possess a Lamkin 3GEN Pistol Grip – made with a soft, synthetic rubber compound that reduces vibration whilst maximising feel.

The Odyssey Flip Face putter comes with an assurance of quality, and if any defect is found within two years of purchase, Callaway will repair or replace it.

The range is comprised of the Odyssey Flip Face Number 1, the Odyssey Flip Face Number 5 and the Odyssey Flip Face Number 9.

Odyssey claims its D.A.R.T (Direction And Realignment Technology) concept takes putting alignment to a new level. The offset cavity blade also features a crank-neck hosel.

The Odyssey D.A.R.T Blade is very easy to align but the new design takes a little adjusting to.

The position of the shaft moves your hands forward at address, helping to promote an upward strike on the ball and create more top spin. The White Ice Insert also helps to promote a truer, forward roll.

Callaway has announed the launch of its Odyssey ProType PT 82 putter, a special blade built to the exact specifications used by Callaway staff professional Phil Mickelson to win his third US Masters title at Augusta in April.

The limited edition blade PT 82 is made from soft 1025 carbon steel and features Odyssey's White Ice insert with a tungsten weight behind it. The vintage finish and single white sightline that stretches down the back flange are looks requested by Mickelson himself.

"I'm very excited that the designers at Odyssey have produced this putter with the same design as my gamer," Mickelson said.

Odyssey engineers have deepened the insert pocket and a piece of tungsten was used to achieve the required 320-gram head weight.

Since 2000, Odyssey has been the number one putter across the world's major professional tours in wins, usage and top-10 finishes. The shaft of the club has been moved to the back of the head to place the axis of the shaft as close as possible to the centre of gravity. This helps to produce a stable stroke and gives clear sight of the top line and the alignment aids to help square the putter. The design also helps set the hands in the correct position to provide a better roll for added consistency.

The Odyssey Backstryke 2-Ball putter will suit those who can't consistently produce a smooth roll, even on good greens and/or anyone looking to make a more confident, committed putting stroke.

The Odyssey Black Series Tour 2 putter has a dark PVD finish that reduces glare. The urethane-dampening layer between the head and flange is designed to enhance feel.
