It’s been a while since I’ve put any Wilson clubs to the test, so I was keen to see how they’d stack up against the other best women's golf sets currently on the market.

Driver

My first impression of the Aurora driver was its striking aesthetic. Even though this set is designed specifically for women, there’s no sign of typically feminine colors. Instead, you get a very sophisticated, polished look. The crown is a sleek, glossy black, complemented by gold accents on the face pattern and sole, with a predominantly black shaft to match.

The head cover deserves a mention as well, as the two-tone cream and light brown colorway is striking (officially called Sand, and the material feels like it’ll be easy to keep clean. As for the grip, it’s quite textured. It doesn't have that same tacky, soft feel you get with the XXIO 14 or PING G Le4 driver, but it still felt secure and solid in my hands.

It’s built with a titanium construction and a forged face and comes with 13 degrees of loft. Across the set, there’s an emphasis on lightweight construction, but my first impression at address was that it felt a bit head heavy, especially compared to some of the other best women’s drivers. Of course, feel is entirely subjective, and different women will naturally gravitate toward different weight distributions.

Despite that initial weightiness, which I definitely felt during my takeaway and backswing, its loft made it impressively easy to get the ball airborne. Over a couple of rounds, I did find a decent rhythm off the tee with consistent results. Plus, the sound at impact is lovely, it’s best described as comforting, giving you that stable, solid feedback that lets you know you’ve caught it well.

Fairway Wood And Hybrids

This set includes a 5-wood that shares the same design tech as the driver. Since I’ve already mentioned how much I like the look of the driver, I felt pretty confident stepping onto the fairway with this in my hands. It sits nicely behind the ball, and I really appreciated the small accent on the crown that doubles as a handy alignment aid.

Just like the driver, it did feel a bit weighty at first, and it wasn't exactly effortless to swing from the get-go. But once I settled into a groove, I was rewarded with plenty of solid, high-flying shots that felt powerful off the face.

From the 5-wood, the gapping moves into a 5 and 6-hybrid, designed for an easier launch compared to long irons. Personally, I’ve often struggled with the best women’s hybrids of this number, as I tend to fall into the trap of swinging them like a wood rather than an iron, but I can definitely appreciate their ease of use.

When caught well, these neat-looking clubs are two fantastic options for escaping light rough, and they’ll certainly help many women get the ball airborne from the fairway or provide extra confidence off the tee on a par-3.

Irons

The set includes five irons (7-SW) featuring a deep cavity-back sleek construction. This design is common in the best women’s irons, like TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold and Ping’s G Le3, because it prioritises forgiveness and an easy launch by shifting weight to the sole to create a much larger sweet spot. On the course, they did exactly what they were supposed to - my shots were consistent, they flew high, and even my mishits weren't punished too harshly!

For me, the real stars of the show were the wedge and sand wedge. The extra weight I’d noticed elsewhere in the set actually proved to be a huge positive around the greens. These clubs gave me the confidence to really attack the ball, all while providing that same comforting, stable sound off the face that I enjoyed with the driver.

Putter

The Infinite is a mid-mallet style putter featuring a double-milled face pattern designed to promote a consistent feel and roll. This was my first time using a putter with an oversized grip, and while it took a little while to adjust, it definitely did its job by helping to quiet my hands and reduce excess wrist movement, something I'm definitely prone to.

Putting is an incredibly personal part of the game, but this putter might just become a permanent fixture in my bag. I really liked the pure roll it produced, with the ball consistently rolling toward, or into, the hole.

Cart Bag

When I first caught sight of this package set, I was really impressed by the cart bag. It’s fabulous and looks really luxurious in the same striking colorway as the head covers (also available as a stand bag). It’s also available as a stand bag. There’s a 14-way top, a dedicated putter compartment, and a vast amount of storage space with YKK zippers, the gold standard in the zipper world! Other features include a magnetic velour-lined valuables pocket, a cart strap channel, and a Velcro glove holder, and it’s clear no corners were cut.

From the high-performance clubs right down to the thoughtfully designed bag, the Wilson Aurora is a premium package through and through. Whether you’re just beginning your golf journey or you’re a game-improver looking for a more polished setup, this set is definitely one to keep on your radar.

Ping’s new G Le4 family is the fourth generation of a line that has been a popular choice for female golfers since 2017. The full range of Ping G Le4 clubs covers the entire bag for women with swing speeds of 80mph or less. Ping says the driver is its longest and most forgiving women’s driver to date, so I was keen to find out how it shaped up against its predecessor G Le3.

Visually, other than the change in colourway, it isn’t a radical departure from the G Le 3 driver. Prior to testing the club, I’d only seen images and wasn’t sure if I’d like what Ping describes as a lilac and milky midnight finish, but I was pleasantly surprised - it’s far better in real life!

The plain ALTA Le D shaft (available in Lite or Ultra Lite) is a rich, deep purple, which complements the two-tone crown, which can look almost bluish in certain lights. I wouldn’t describe it as having much lilac, there are just a few splashes on the sole.

It’s finished off with a tacky Golf Pride grip that feels comfortable as soon as you hold the club. While they don’t appeal to everyone, I’m a big fan of tacky grips, similar to those on the XXIO 14 and TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold drivers. Let’s also not forget the matching headcover, which is easy to put on and take off. This might be a small detail, but it’s an important one!

Just like the G Le 3, it has a big, confidence-boosting 460cc titanium head that manages to look sleek without being over the top. The crown features angled ridges Ping’s turbulator technology and these have a dual purpose. They optimise airflow around the clubhead to boost ball speed, and I find them to be a great visual guide as you can use them to frame the ball at address.

So, while I didn’t find a total redesign on the surface, the biggest shift is tucked away where the internal technology has advanced. The introduction of the Carbonfly Wrap crown, a first for Ping’s women’s drivers, saves significant weight, allowing the centre of gravity to be positioned lower and deeper for more powerful drives and increased carry.

I’ve reviewed every driver in the G Le series, and while I’ve had different aesthetic preferences over the years, I’ve always liked the overall weight. It feels effortless to swing, especially for someone like me who falls into this swing speed category.

I tested this driver over several rounds, and what impressed me most was the extra carry distance I achieved on my best drives. I’d put it at least 10-12 yards. It was significant enough for me to notice and I’ll take that extra yardage any day! I didn’t feel the need to use the Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel, but it does allow the 11.5° loft to be adjusted plus or minus 1.5° (and up to 3° flatter) to really dial in your ideal ball flight.

Now, not every drive was perfect, but I somehow got away with slight mishits thanks to the fixed backweight. It’s positioned toward the heel and contributes to a 15% higher MOI compared to the previous generation. When I did hit the sweet spot, I loved the sound at impact and was consistently impressed by the results.

This fairway wood forms part of the new range of XXIO 14 women’s clubs from the Japanese brand that follow the theme ‘Crafted for Effortless Play,’ Fairway woods are not always a female golfer’s favourite club, so I was looking forward to finding out if I could validate the claims by sweeping the ball off the fairway with minimal effort.

This fairway wood comes in five options, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9. In the US, XXIO has collaborated with luxury brand Vessel and you can purchase a XXIO 14 package set that includes a 5 and 7-wood and it comes with a beautiful white golf bag. There’s also a putter option to accompany the set, so women have every club they need straight away.

First impression of the 20 degree 5-wood, I like the blue aesthetic, which is not too dissimilar to its predecessor, XXIO 13, but a slightly lighter blue. The clubhead is complemented by a silvery colored shaft that has an abstract flowery pattern, which adds a feminine touch.

Like the XXIO 14 driver and XXIO 14 irons, the fairway woods incorporate the same ULTIFLEX technology. This brand new titanium alloy is stronger and thinner and this is the key ingredient that helps to maximise ball speed with minimal effort for women with a slower swing speed.

I’m not a regular 5-wood user, probably as a result of the gap between my ears, a few bad shots and it’s stayed in the bag. I prefer using a 3-wood when the lie allows, however, when I addressed the ball, it did instill confidence, as I felt comfortable with the slightly tacky-feeling grip and I like the look of the compact head shape. I’m also a fan of an alignment aid and I wasn’t disappointed, as there’s a small accent on top of the crown.

This club is very lightweight so I was able to make a smooth takeaway, and I was really impressed how responsive and stable it felt through my swing for a solid impact. I congratulate XXIO’s ActivWing technology that has refined steps on the crown and a new, larger step on the sole. It’s these that harness aerodynamic forces that stabilise the clubhead during the downswing for consistent results. I definitely found the sweet spot more often than not!

I can honestly say that it was effortless to get the ball airborne using this club, which can often be a struggle for some female golfers when using a fairway wood. The secret of XXIO 14 is the hollowed out design of the Cannon Sole with its floating weight pad, as this provides more face flex and a lower centre of gravity for a higher launch. I should also add that even in wet conditions and from light rough - the lies that you question whether you should use a fairway wood - I was pleasantly surprised by the launch, carry and distance.

I found renewed confidence with this 5-wood in my hands, so I would definitely add it to my list as one of the best women's fairway woods. It’s difficult to fault as it provides everything you need in a club to effortlessly get the ball up and away for long fairway shots.

I tested XXIO 14's predecessor, the XXIO 13 iron and there are subtle differences. These irons also feature a thinner, lower face, which helps to get the ball airborne.

XXIO’s Rebound Frame technology isn’t new. It creates a face that acts like a spring within a spring to help deliver increased ball speed and distance. But this rebound frame now has an L-Groove that’s positioned lower than the previous model for greater flexibility.

I like the new modern, streamlined look of the cavity back with a splash of light blue, and unlike some irons, they don’t look too chunky at address. Some women might prefer a more subdued shaft colorway, but the silvery color with a delicate flowery pattern suited me, it’s not off-putting.

They’ve got a very nice feel, and with high expectations, I was not disappointed. It was easy to lift the ball with a high trajectory and power with notable distance. I felt well balanced through my swing and the flight was consistent, so they definitely provided me with confidence, as my iron play is not the strongest part of my game.

The acoustics have been tuned for the graceful tempo of women’s swing speeds and I have to say, that’s one of the big differences I noticed with the new XXIO 14. When you hit an iron, especially when you really nail the sweet spot, the sound is amazing. This includes the short irons as well. I felt particularly relaxed around the green with the pitching wedge in my hand and made consistently good and positive contact.

As I was impressed with the previous generation, XXIO 13 driver, I was keen to see how XXIO 14 performs against its predecessor and if this new model still contends as one of the best golf drivers for women.

First off, let’s talk about aesthetics. I’m biased as my favorite color is blue, so I’m pleased that XXIO has stuck with this colorway. However, compared with the XXIO 13 driver, which has a deep blue crown, I would describe XXIO 14 as an attractive light blue, in fact a little purplish, and complemented with a silvery color shaft that has a flowery pattern at the top half.

In fairness, the differences between XXIO 13 and XXIO 14 are very subtle, but they are there if you look closely. The clubhead is more rounded, slightly less bulbous, and the shape does instil confidence when you address the ball. It has a small alignment aid on top of the crown, and if I’m being really picky, it isn't always easy to see, especially in bright sunlight.

There’s a couple of ridges on top of the crown, which are more obvious on this model than XXIO 13, and reminds me of the Ping’s G Le3 driver, designed in this way to improve the way air flows around the clubhead to help deliver faster ball speeds.

One of XXIO’s biggest advancements in technology for this new range is ULTIFLEX, which is powered by a VR-Titanium. This is a world first, a titanium alloy that is stronger and thinner for maximising ball speed with minimal effort.

I must admit, I often try to hit the ball harder when I want to gain more distance, and it usually goes wrong! I found that I didn’t have to think too much about how hard I was swinging the club, I kept my natural rhythm.

I wouldn’t say that I noticed massive distance gains, but compared with XXIO 13, my overall carry and distance was more consistent with minimal effort. It’s worth mentioning that the XXIO 14 driver I tested has a 12.5 degree loft, although 10.5, 11.5 and 13.5 is available. I’m used to a lower loft (11.5), so I was genuinely surprised how well I hit this drive with a pleasing ball flight.

This latest model is weighted perfectly. It’s light, but compared with XXIO 13, somehow it feels more substantial, not quite as whippy. This is probably due to XXIO’s signature ActivWing technology, which helps to guide the clubface in the optimal strike position at impact.

It has been refined for XXIO 14 and works in harmony with Ultiflex, so all-in-all, from being able to maintain a smooth takeaway, through to impact, I felt completely in control of my drives.

It’s also one of the most forgiving drivers, as even mishits weren’t disastrous, thanks to the draw-bias design that helps to keep the ball flying on its intended line.

On the bottom of the sole, it says, “Experience the Difference”, and XXIO’s theme for ‘Crafted for Effortless Play’ stands true. This is a luxurious driver, but for moderate-speed female golfers, to enjoy an easy swing with pleasing results is priceless.

Cobra’s DS-ADAPT MAX women's iron is designed to deliver ultimate forgiveness and an effortless high launch, specifically targeting golfers who need to regain lost carry distance. I was therefore looking forward to finding out if it stood up to these claims and is one of the best golf irons for women.

While I haven't tested the regular Cobra DS-ADAPT model, so I can't give you a direct comparison, I can tell you exactly how this enhanced model has been tailored to give female golfers added benefits and if I was impressed with the results.

The DS-ADAPT MAX has a slightly larger profile with a thicker topline, wider sole and added offset, which combine to provide maximum forgiveness. Unlike some irons that look intimidating when you address the ball, I found these ‘oversized’ aspects confidence-inspiring, making even the worst lies seem manageable.

In my opinion, there is nothing to dislike about the aesthetic of this iron. Cobra describes the finish as champagne, which is understated but pretty classy and it's fitted with a KBS light graphite shaft that’s mostly black.

When I first picked up this iron, I did find it heavy compared with others on the market, such as the Ping’s G Le3, XXIO 13, or TaylorMade's Kalea Gold. But as we're all different, and what feels heavy to me might feel light to someone else.

During testing, I was conscious of the weight of the club on my takeaway into my backswing, but I have to say, while no noticeable distance gains, I did manage to get the club back to the ball and consistently launch it fairly high so I was impressed with the results.

This might well have been due to the 2-degree weaker lofts in this model, which aim to help the ball get up and travel high without sacrificing speed. I also think the extra weight didn’t do me any harm, it helped me to give my shots extra oomph!

What I really appreciated, however, was the sound and feel at impact. Thanks to the hollow cavity that is filled with a soft foam, whatever the outcome, my shots felt robust and powerful without any harsh vibrations. Even on off-centre strikes, the sound was consistent and pleasing.

Overall, the DS-ADAPT MAX women's iron is a great offering if you’re looking for maximum forgiveness and height, which is wrapped up in a sleek package that inspires confidence at address.

Female players tend to prioritise launch and forgiveness with irons - this is something that certainly tallies with my requirements as someone fairly new to the game, so I was keen to take a set of the Reva Rise irons to the course and properly test them out.

Visually, these irons pass the test against some of the best irons for women. The more playful Callaway logo is a nice addition while the graphite effect behind it creates a premium, techy aesthetic. The pale turquoise color scheme isn’t obviously aimed at women golfers, although it certainly appeals to my eye.

The profile at address is generous but not oversized or clunky. There’s a hint of offset and a moderate top line but the dimensions seemed spot on to me and framed the ball nicely. Some may want to see more meat behind the ball, but on the more difficult longer approach shots the hybrids could step up a do the job.

I wasn't expecting to see good shots straight away when hitting my first few balls on the range with these irons but I have to say, the impact of the technology was almost immediate. The feel of the lightweight UST Mamiya Linq Lite shaft made it seem easy to generate the requisite speed without losing awareness of where the clubhead was during my swing.

Off the face, these irons feel springy and consistently so, with a relatively muted sound. Much like the Reva Rise driver, they feature the Ai10x Face optimised with women’s swing data - it’s reassuring to know there is some technology there to assist. I called upon it many times and was surprised at how influential it seemed to be in correcting my ball flight and suppressing any loss of distance, especially from shots struck low on the face.

The 7-iron has a loft of 31°, striking a good balance between providing both speed and height, like the best women's golf clubs always do. I was very happy with some of the shots these irons contributed to and while I perhaps am not at a level that can get the most out of them consistently, there was enough forgiveness on offer to suitably mask all but the worst of strikes.

The Reva Rise irons are available in 6-iron to sand wedge (including an approach wedge) which provides a welcome opportunity to add in hybrids or high-lofted fairway woods to achieve extra distance - I especially enjoyed the 7-wood in this set, it has become my go-to club off the tee on par fours and medium length par threes!

It would appear that Callaway went to great lengths to ensure its Reva Rise driver performed in the hands of female golfers, regardless of their ability. The Reva Rise platform was led by Callaway’s internal Women’s Golf Council of employees and benefits from utilising swing code dynamics from thousands of female players.

The result, Callaway says, is more distance, easy launch and plenty of forgiveness, especially for developing players who are trying to elevate their game. This was something I, as an inconsistent player, was keen to put to the test.

My first impressions of the Callaway Reva Rise driver were very positive. The pale green leather headcover appealed to my eye and this theme continued once removed. The club isn’t obviously aimed at women based on how it looks - the feminine touches are quite subtle but it undoubtedly looks premium and cutting edge.

The head size is generous but not excessive and the feel is lightweight, which made it instantly feel very easy to swing, something the best drivers for women always offer. There’s a decent amount of loft on show in the playing position, more than what the 10.5° head I had suggested, which boosted my confidence further.

It didn’t take long before I started honing in on the sweetspot when giving this a first hit on the range and the resulting carry distance truly blew me away. I’ve been used to settling for unsuitable men’s drivers in the past and switching into something better tailored to my game made an immediate impact.

The ball speed combined with the launch and height produced some of my best ever drives and the feel only enhanced the experience. It felt lively and robust, masking some pretty poor swings admirably.

I am relatively new to the game so forgiveness was always going to be crucial and the Reva Rise driver delivered. I peppered all parts of the clubface (I wish I could say it was deliberate) over the course of my session to really put the Ai10x Smart Face through its paces and I saw the benefit in the accuracy of the ball flight. Shots didn’t curve off line as much as I was expecting and even some questionable strikes achieved noteworthy carry distance.

With the two loft options, the highly adjustable OptiFit hosel and the array of shaft options across the women’s and men’s matrix, I’m confident this is a driver that can be optimised for almost any female player and really elevates the overall performance package on offer from the previous Callaway Women's Reva driver.

As someone who has tested the XXIO 13 irons, I was keen to see how this more advanced Royal Edition would compare and if it would deliver a next-level experience.

Right away, the aesthetic sets these irons apart. Where the XXIO 13 irons have a modern, streamlined look with their blue tones, the Prime Royal Edition elevates luxury to a new level.

Each iron comes with a headcover and the elegant craftsmanship and detailing give these clubs a bespoke feel. The combination of gold accents, premium finishes, and featherweight shaft creates a visual promise of performance and an undeniably luxurious look and feel in your hands. Personally, I prefer the aesthetics of XXIO 13, as the gold is a bit blingy for me, but each to their own!

These irons feature superior technology, taking the best of the XXIO 13 and refining it. The 4-piece construction allows for a higher launch and added distance thanks to its thinner, titanium face.

What separates the Royal Edition is the new 50g tungsten-nickel weight positioned further to the bottom of the sole. While the XXIO 13 also has toe-side weighting to optimise the centre of gravity, this weight placement in the Royal Edition creates a lower CG for stability and a higher trajectory.

In addition to an L-shaped groove at the bottom, new grooves in the outer periphery of the clubhead improve face rebound for added ball speed and distance, which is similar to the Rebound Frame technology in the XXIO 13 that gives it a "spring-within-a-spring" effect.

I tested the 7-iron and 9-iron and it’s the effortless feel that provides immediate confidence. They are ultra lightweight and so nicely balanced, making them an absolute joy to swing.

Just like the XXIO 13 irons, the strike and delivery were impressive, and I felt confident with every shot. This immediate, positive feedback with the first attempt made me feel secure with the next.

I hit the ball consistently well with a high launch and distance was impressive That said, compared with the XXIO 13 and Ping G Le3 7-iron, I didn’t notice massive distance gains.

A subtle key feature in the XXIO Prime Royal Edition iron is the Weight Plus grip, as it’s fitted with technology to stabilise your club path. This is an evolution of the counterweighting under the grip that I loved in the XXIO 13.

The Weight Plus grip is designed to help create a more powerful downswing and keep a square face at impact. I suspect the grip must have contributed to me finding noticeable accuracy from a variety of lies.

Through the latest technology, most of the best golf irons for women provide incredible forgiveness, but this model definitely made all my mishits look good! XXIO is a top of the range brand, and with XXIO Prime Royal Edition, you’re paying for a whole new level of luxury, but if you’re in the market with a moderate swing speed to make a long-term investment, they are worth considering.

Driver

The driver has a 13-degree loft and a large head, which immediately gave me confidence on the tee. As someone that struggles with alignment, I also found the aid the aid on the top of the crown to a helpful addition.

Fortunately the clubface has multiple sweet spots, so this helped to make up for my imperfect swings. I found this driver easy to swing and managed to hit the ball consistently off the tee with solid distance and accuracy.

Fairway Wood And Hybrid

To be honest, I'm still at the stage where I find fairway woods to be quite intimidating. However, I really like the 18 degree wood, it feels really nicely balanced and I was surprised how effortless it was to launch strong shots. Like the driver, it's a forgiving wood and paired with the alignment aid, this helped my performance off the tee, the fairway and even from light rough.

The hybrid is a game-changer, my favorite! I admit, it did take me a while to get used to it, but after a number of shots, I found it easy to get the ball airborne and hit it with confidence from a variety of lies. I was most impressed by the control this club offers, which made a huge difference in my distance and accuracy.

Irons

The irons have a cavity-back design for maximum forgiveness and this meant that I could still hit decent shots even if I didn't make perfect contact. They are also lightweight and well-balanced, so I didn’t feel like I was overexerting myself on every swing.

Putter

Like the irons, the putter is nicely weighted. It's a mallet style, and I found it very comfortable to hold. As a beginner, I cannot yet compare this putter with the best women's putters on the market, but I found it easy enough to swing the club back and through and it produced a smooth roll off the face. With a clear alignment aid, this also made it easy to line up putts and gain confidence on the greens.

After being impressed by the technology in the Cobra DS-ADAPT MAX-K women's driver, I was keen to see if the same tech would translate to the DS-ADAPT MAX fairway wood with similar results. This club not only promises a blend of forgiveness and versatility, but it also features a sharp-looking design in a bold finish, which is very dark, it’s almost black, but I like it!

Like the driver, this fairway wood features Cobra's FutureFit33 system with 33 loft and lie settings. This means that you can tweak the loft and lie by +/- 2 degrees, while the SMARTPAD keeps the face square, so this can be a real game-changer for women who want to dial in their ball flight. For my testing, I kept the 3-wood in a standard setup, but the potential to customise this club for any lie or swing is impressive.

Right away, before even swinging, I noticed it felt a little heavier than some other fairway woods I've hit recently, models like the XXIO Prime Royal Edition or TaylorMade's Kalea Gold. I typically lean towards lighter clubs, so even with the UST Helium Nanocore 4F1 shaft (which is designed for lightweight speed and performance), I was curious to see how that slightly added weight would feel through the swing, especially when trying to sweep it off the fairway.

When it came to hitting shots, especially from tighter lies on the fairway, I was really impressed. Despite my initial apprehension about the weight, this club felt incredibly solid through impact. There was a fantastic pop off the face, and the ball launched with a lovely, high trajectory. The solid feel wasn’t just comforting, it really helped me get consistent ball speeds. I also found 'the C' on the crown to be a useful alignment aid, although it's not very clear to see.

Even on shots that weren't perfectly struck, those that normally lead to a nasty slice or a low runner, the ball stayed straight and got airborne with ease. The internal adaptive weighting, designed to put the weight low and back, clearly does its job to maximise stability and helps to get the ball flying.

Overall, the Cobra DS-ADAPT MAX is a fantastic performer as one of the best women's fairway woods. While it felt a touch heavier to me than some competitors, that weight contributed to an incredibly solid feel at impact and a consistently high, strong trajectory. If you're looking for a versatile fairway wood that prioritises forgiveness and delivers a powerful, high ball flight, this is one to try.

Cobra’s DS-ADAPT MAX-K women's driver promises incredible forgiveness and stability for straighter ball flights and effortless launch and distance. Its bold colorway certainly caught my eye, as it’s a striking, dark and elegant finish that looks modern and luxurious. As I haven’t tested a Cobra driver in a good while, I was keen to find out how it compares with other best golf drivers for women.

This is one of the most technology-packed drivers I’ve seen! Let’s start with Cobra’s FutureFit33 system, which offers a staggering 33 unique loft and lie settings. That level of adjustability is seriously impressive. You can fine-tune it by +/- 2 degrees, and the innovative SMARTPAD design means the face stays square, no matter what setting you pick. I used a standard setup for my testing, but the sheer potential for customisation here is a huge draw for any woman looking to really dial in her game.

Before I even hit a ball, it felt heavier than my own driver, as well as others I’ve reviewed, like Ping’s G Le3, XXIO 13, and TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold. I typically suit a lightweight club, and even though the UST Helium Nanocore 4F1 shaft is designed for high performance and lightweight speed, I was a tiny bit apprehensive about how it would perform with my swing speed.

As I took my first swings, I did find it a little too heavy for me, I was conscious of having to put more effort into getting the club back to the ball. However, don’t let that put you off because we’re all different, and what immediately struck me was how stable this driver felt through impact. It’s designed with a streamlined perimeter face and low back weighting, which is nicely highlighted in gold on the sole, aimed at creating speed with maximum stability, even in its more traditional clubhead shape.

The larger, forged face insert with H.O.T. Face technology seemed to deliver on its promise. When I connected well, the ball absolutely zipped off the face with a robust feel. I loved the satisfying sound, and the distance I was getting was good. I also found that it genuinely minimises the impact of mishits and kept my less-than-perfect drives in play!

The DS-ADAPT MAX-K women's driver really lives up to its claim of being a supremely forgiving and stable driver. It looks great, feels very powerful, and most importantly, it consistently helps maintain accuracy and distance, even when your swing isn't absolutely perfect. For women golfers prioritising straight ball flights and notable distance from a club that inspires confidence, this driver is definitely one to consider.

From the moment I pulled it out of the bag, the XXIO Prime Royal Edition ladies fairway wood, which forms part of the latest range from the Japanese brand, makes a visual statement. With a rich, chocolate brown head accented by gold and bronze detailing, it is a premium looking club.

The graphite shaft is finished with gold ion plating and the refined Royal Edition branding adds a luxurious touch. Even the headcover is a standout - cream with gold piping and intricate embroidery, which wouldn’t look out of place in a designer handbag collection!

The overall styling leans towards the ornate, which may divide opinion. Personally, I prefer a more traditional blue or black aesthetic, like Titleist’s TSR1, but that’s a matter of taste. Ultimately what counts is whether or not the club performs as one of the best women’s fairway woods and I was keen to test the 20-degree 5-wood.

It’s engineered for moderate swing speeds and it did feel exceptionally light and well-balanced from the moment I gripped it. Of course, depending on swing speed, some women will find it too light.

It almost swings itself, with the ultralight SP-1300K shaft and aerodynamic shaping, which seemed to work well together to deliver speed. I didn’t fall in love with the fairway wood as quickly as the XXIO Prime Royal Edition hybrid or XXIO Prime Royal Edition driver, but after several hits, I felt more comfortable and it became effortless to launch the ball. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt, it was probably me and not the club!

What really impressed me was the consistency across the face. The BiFlex face and expanded Rebound Frame technology clearly helps to maintain ball speed, carry and distance, even when I didn’t strike it perfectly. I also appreciated the very compact head shape, for example, more so than TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold fairway wood, as it gave me a great sense of control.

The ActivWing tech also deserves a mention as it seems to stabilise the clubhead from mid-swing through impact for a solid feel and satisfying sound, which ultimately gave me confidence after a number of fairway shots.

In short, the XXIO Prime Royal Edition ladies fairway wood delivers where it really matters. For golfers with a moderate swing speed looking for a forgiving, reliable, and easy-to-swing club, it’s a top-tier performer and well worth considering.

The XXIO Prime Royal Edition ladies hybrid features in the latest line-up of clubs, specifically crafted for women and seniors who have a moderate swing speed. Knowing XXIO’s reputation for blending visual appeal with an easy swing, I was genuinely keen to see how this hybrid would perform on the course and was quietly confident that it is one of the best women's hybrids.

It certainly makes a striking first impression. Even the headcover is a sight to behold. Its cream finish is beautifully complemented by gold piping and delicate gold embroidery, showcasing a sophisticated ‘RE’ logo that gives it a royal feel.

The rich chocolate brown clubhead is enhanced by subtle gold and bronze accents, perfectly paired with a graphite shaft featuring a luxurious gold ion plating and distinctive Royal Edition branding. I also couldn’t help but notice the gleaming gold insert in the butt of the club, it’s almost jewel-like.

While the styling is undeniably high-end and elegant, I’ll be honest that the colorway isn’t exactly to my taste. In fact, I prefer the colorway of the XXIO 13 ladies hybrid and the Ping G Le 3 hybrid. It leans more ornate than modern, but I’m more than happy to overlook that considering how well it performed. If anything, the classic gold detailing makes it stand out in the bag, which is a conversation starter in itself!

This hybrid felt beautifully balanced in my hands and incredibly light through the swing. I noticed straight away how easy it was to generate speed without forcing it. The ultralight SP-1300K shaft, combined with the clever weighting and aerodynamic shaping, makes it feel almost effortless, especially from tricky lies, and I was pleased how reliable it was off the tee, just the right distance for a couple of the par-3s at my home course. It's fair to say that I was equally impressed with the XXIO 13 ladies hybrid when I tested this club last year.

The BiFlex face and expanded Rebound Frame tech clearly work. My strike pattern was consistent, and like the XXIO Prime Royal Edition driver, most noticeable was the ball speed and carry distance.

It’s a very compact looking club and I also felt stable at impact, thanks to the ActivWing feature, which seems to guide the clubhead in a way that allows you to trust it. I found that even on less-than-perfect swings, it kept the ball on line. Also, unlike some ultralight hybrids, this one delivers a really satisfying sound at impact, one that gives immediate feedback and just feels solid and confidence-boosting.

Overall, the XXIO Prime Royal Edition ladies hybrid is an excellent performer. Yes, it's a top of the range price, but If you’ve got a moderate swing speed and are looking for a hybrid that’s light, forgiving, consistent, and confidence-inspiring, it’s absolutely worth trying, even if the look isn’t quite your thing.

The XXIO Prime Royal Edition driver forms part of a new line of clubs designed for women and seniors with a moderate swing speed. The aim of this driver from the Japanese brand, renowned for creating lightweight golf equipment for amateur players, is to make it super easy to hit higher and longer shots.

I’m a big fan of the XXIO 13 driver, but this is the next level, not just lightweight, but ultralightweight, and packed with technology for a top-tier price. As I fall into the target market I was therefore excited to try this new driver to find out if its performance justifies the price tag to sit as one of the best golf drivers for women on the market.

Just by looking at the magnetic headcover, this driver exudes luxury. It’s cream with gold piping and gold embroidered stitching to signify the number one and a classy ‘RE’ logo, which makes it feel very royal! I also couldn’t help notice the shiny gold insert in the butt of the club, it’s almost jewel-like.

The clubhead is a unique color and I haven’t seen anything similar. It’s chocolate brown with a few gold and bronze accents and this is complemented by a graphite shaft that’s finished with gold ion plating and Royal Edition branding.

It's good that this colorway is gender neutral, so will appeal to women and seniors. I actually prefer the colorways of some of the other women’s drivers on the market, such as the XXIO 13, Ping’s G Le3 and Callaway's Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast, but that’s personal choice. If a club can deliver on performance, I will forgo my favorite aesthetics!

Comparing its overall weight with the XXIO 13 driver, I didn’t notice a dramatic difference, but interestingly, as soon as I picked up the XXIO Prime, it looked slightly longer and true enough, it’s about an inch longer than XXIO 13. It is very lightweight and some players will prefer a heavier club.

The clubhead is a simple bulbous shape, without any fussy detailing, although I like the small alignment made on the top of the crown. There’s even very subtle Royal Edition branding ingrained into the gold clubface - the attention to detail is incredible.

As for performance, I tested this 11.5 degree driver over multiple rounds including one round where I was outdriving one of the women at my golf club who is deemed to be one of the longer hitters, so let’s say, I was suitably impressed.

The funny thing is, when I struck some of my drives, I didn’t expect to see them fly as far as they did because the trajectory was high, so this driver definitely helped me to carry the ball further with minimal effort.

This is likely to be due to the BiFlex Face, which works like a strong frame around the face, designed to be highly flexible to reinforce locations to optimize ball speed. XXIO’s ActivWing technology also uses aerodynamics to help get the clubhead square at impact, while this driver’s new Draw-Biased design reduces any distance loss caused by off-centre strikes, so this explains why my drives were not only long, but straight. Also, with a large sweet spot, the XXIO Prime Royal Edition is up there as one of the most forgiving drivers.

All-in-all, this driver definitely gets my gold seal of approval if you have a slow to moderate swing speed and the club is within your budget. We all want to make this game easier, and off the tee, this driver certainly does that.

Building on the momentum of Kalea Premier, TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold is a range of premium clubs designed for women by women. Four distinct cohorts of female golfers provided feedback on design and aesthetics to help engineers create a complete range of clubs for women of all abilities to play better golf.

I’ve tested the Kalea Gold driver, fairway wood, rescue and putter with pleasing results, so over multiple rounds, two in the US and two at my home club in the UK, I had high expectations for the irons to stand up against the best irons for women on the market.

In keeping with Kalea Gold’s colorway, the back of the head is highlighted in blue and gold and the same colors feature on the soft flex graphite shaft. Combined with a nice tacky SuperStroke grip makes for a stylish looking iron.

I felt comfortable and confident with these irons in my hand, probably due to the Cap Back design, which provides a lot of club behind the ball. By moving mass from the toe of the clubhead to the sole means that the centre of gravity is lowered and this increases launch angle and ball height. Cap Back provides other benefits too, including a larger sweet spot for forgiveness and improved face flexibility for faster ball speeds, which can potentially mean greater distance.

At this point, it’s also worth mentioning TaylorMade’s Speed Pocket technology, which was first introduced in 2009. It has been refined since but a slot in the sole helps the clubface flex and rebound faster, so combined with Cap Back, this also helps to promote a faster ball speed and better feel.

So, feeling confident over the ball and knowing these irons are packed with technology, how did they perform? They are nicely weighted, not too head heavy and I found them effortless to swing. From that respect they are on a par with Ping G Le3 and XXIO 13 irons.

From my first swing using the 8-iron, I was impressed not only by the strong and high ball flight, but the soft landing of my approach shot. From SW through to 6-iron, while I didn’t notice any distance gains, these irons excel with consistent accuracy and I really love the soft sound off the clubface, which is thanks to an ECHO Damper. I’m not the strongest iron player, so I was pleased with the noticeable forgiveness on mis-hits - that horrible thinned shot! Also, the chunky wide sole made it easier to play through the rough in winter conditions.

Talking of chunky, my favourite club in this set is the pitching wedge as I found it easy to control on a variety of greenside shots, popping the ball up nicely and providing me with much needed short game confidence.

Overall, for women with a slow to medium swing speed who are looking for greater accuracy from fairway to green, I’d recommend these game improvement irons.

Building on the popular Kalea Premier, the Kalea Gold rescue is part of TaylorMade’s new range of women’s clubs that also includes a driver, fairway woods, irons and a putter. The rescue club, or hybrid as it’s also known, is one of the most popular clubs in the bag, and with four to choose from (4, 5, 6 and 7), did it top the list as one of the best women’s hybrids on the market?

I really like the aesthetics of Kalea Gold. In my opinion, the dark navy crown that’s highlighted with silver and gold is a far more sleek colorway than Kalea Premier, and like all the clubs in this collection, it’s fitted with a SuperStroke grip that is soft and squidgy. This might not be to everyone’s liking, but I found it really comfortable.

Overall the club feels fairly lightweight with a graphite ultralight shaft, although when you first pick it up, there doesn’t feel as much flex in the shaft compared with Ping’s G Le3 and Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast hybrid, so I was keen to find out how this slightly stronger shaft would impact my performance on shots from a variety of lies.

To gain a broad opinion, I tested the 4 and 7 rescue, and what I can say about both is that they sit really neatly behind the ball, and because I also like the look of them, I felt confident that I would make decent contact and hit a good shot.

Obviously, the shot that you believe you’re going to hit, and what you actually hit can be two very different things! However, like the Kalea Gold fairway wood, I was impressed how effortless it was to get the ball airborne with a noticeable high ball flight, which is thanks to the carbon crown as it is designed with a lower centre of gravity to enhance launch and spin.

I mentioned a slightly stronger flex, but I must say that I felt completely in control, I felt that I could attack the ball, and on my best shots, they felt powerful off the face with a lovely sound.

I really enjoyed using the 4 rescue on a long par-3, and I had no trouble using it from light rough. Equally, the 7 is a versatile club, but I often struggle to hit a rescue club like an iron, so the 7 didn’t work as well for me as the 4, but that’s me, not the club!

For women that prefer using rescue clubs to irons, or if you’ve got a gapping distance in your bag, then Kalea Gold is worth considering. The best option is to book a custom fitting session to find the right makeup and create one of the best women’s golf sets.

The Kalea Gold fairway wood forms part of the new family of clubs from TaylorMade designed specifically to help women golfers of all abilities get the most out of their game. The fairway wood comes in three options, 3, 5 and 7, and I was keen to find out if the 5-wood shaped up as one of the best women’s fairway woods out there.

Compared with TaylorMade’s previous generation of women’s clubs, Kalea Premier, in my opinion Kalea Gold looks far more elegant. The crown is predominantly dark navy with pops of silver and gold, which combine for a striking finish on the crown and sole. It’s fitted with an ultralight graphite shaft and has one of those nice squidgy SuperStroke grips in navy and white.

Fairway woods are my favorite clubs to hit, so this one had a lot to live up to! I like the look of the shiny carbon crown at address, which is always important for a confidence boost. It sits neatly behind the ball, and on my very first stroke using this club, I found it easy to launch, plus the ball flew high and straight, so my first impression was very good.

Interestingly, I have also reviewed the TaylorMade Kalea Gold driver, which took me a little longer to get used to, whereas I found the fairway wood lightweight and effortless to hit from the get-go. In particular, I noticed how powerful the ball felt coming off the clubface with a penetrating flight and distance was pleasing, comparable with Titleist’s TSR1 fairway wood. I also like small TaylorMade logo on the top of the crown, it's a useful alignment aid.

Of course, not all my fairway shots were perfect, but with the help of TaylorMade’s Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology, which flexes the face for optimal spin and provides forgiveness on shots hit low on the face, I got away with a few off-centre strikes. The look and feel also gave me the confidence to use it from light rough.

It’s worth mentioning the luxurious-looking headcovers for this family of woods because while the outer fabric is easy to keep clean, and just as well as it’s predominantly white, the inside is silvery grey velour, so you need to make sure you wipe any mud off, otherwise it will soon become very dirty.

I cannot fault this fairway wood, but when I was reviewing this club, one of my playing partners (who is fairly tall) also gave it a try, and she immediately found it to be too short for her. On inspection, it is about an inch shorter than some other fairway woods, so the length might minimally impact some women.

On that note, alongside the Qi10 women’s range, Kalea Gold is available via custom fitting, and this is always worth doing so you can find the exact setup of the club to suit you and combine with your other clubs to form one of the best women's golf sets.

The new TaylorMade Kalea Gold family of clubs are designed by women for women. The TaylorMade teams enlisted the help of four distinct cohorts of women golfers to provide feedback on what women like and dislike to help engineers create the best women’s golf clubs for players of all abilities. I was therefore keen to test the Kalea Gold driver to see how it performed against the best golf drivers for women on the market.

This is the latest chapter in the Kalea franchise and what I first noticed was the colorway, which is noticeably different from the previous Kalea Premier driver. The new Kalea Gold is extremely elegant in unique carbonwood. The dark navy crown is highlighted with silver, and of course gold, for a luxurious finish, and overall the combination of colors is very strong. The clubhead is complemented with a 44” Kalea Gold Ultralight Graphite 40-L shaft and a SuperStroke Traxion Tour navy/white grip.

It’s available in two standard lofts - 11.5 and 13.5 (I used the 11.5), but it’s possible to increase or decrease the loft up to two degrees. I really like the grip, it’s soft and squidgy, but I must admit, when I first picked it up, it felt slightly heavier than other drivers, such as the Ping G Le3 and XXI0 13, and with less flex in the shaft, so I was even more interested to find out what this driver could deliver.

When I addressed the ball, I made use of the tiny gold TaylorMade logo alignment aid, and aesthetically, the head is a really nice shape, it doesn’t look oversized and sits comfortably behind the ball.

Initially, I found that I had to work harder to get the club back to the ball. I assumed this might be due to its weight and simply because the driver was new to me. However, it was still super easy to get the ball airborne and from my first tee shot to the last, shots flew as straight as a die. I was really impressed by its forgiveness and accuracy, which is thanks to TaylorMade’s Carbon Twist Face that features an enhanced version of Inverted Cone Technology that helps to maintain your ball speed on mishits. The Kalea Gold is definitely one of the most forgiving drivers.

As the round progressed and I became used to attacking the ball with a more significant punch, I must say that this driver helped me to generate greater ball speed and when I caught my drives well, the club felt so solid through impact with a lovely sound and the distance was great.

I must mention the headcover, which is predominantly white, although it's made in a fabric that is easy to clean. It’s very stylish but the lining is silver velour, and playing in wet and muddy conditions, I had to make sure I wiped my driver clean as it marks easily.

This is a premium driver and based on my experiences of using it over a few rounds, I would say that most women will appreciate its benefits as it looks great and performs very well.

Like all clubs, you need to get used to them and the Kalea Gold range that includes fairway woods, rescues, irons and a putter is available via custom fitting so women can choose the exact makeup to suit them, creating one of the best women's golf sets.

The XXIO 13 ladies irons form part of the latest generation from the Japanese brand that also includes a driver, fairway woods and hybrids. I tested XXIO 12 irons so I was keen to find out how these irons would compare with their predecessor and if they would still hit the heights as one of the best golf irons for women with a moderate swing speed.

Compared with XXIO 12 irons, the aesthetic has been updated from a slightly darker shade of blue to light blue/turquoise tones that extend through to the 35g graphite shaft, which has a unique swirl pattern at the top for a modern and streamlined effect. They are fitted with a comfortable Golf Pride grip and certainly have a luxurious look and feel.

It’s the feel in particular that provides immediate confidence with these irons, as they are really nicely balanced, making them effortless to swing, and the strike and delivery at my first attempt with a 7-iron  was impressive, so naturally I felt confident with my next iron shot and the next, and so it went on.

These irons feature superior technology including mass in the butt-end of the shaft, and this counterweight under the grip and behind your hands is the reason why you can swing them with ease, aiding a smooth takeaway to help find the right spot at the top of your swing, before releasing the club into the downswing, and ultimately making more consistent contact. 

I noticed the new grooves in the outer periphery of the clubhead, designed in this way to improve the COR (the energy transfer between the clubface and the golf ball upon impact), and it’s these grooves combined with XXIO’s unique Rebound Frame technology, that create a face that acts like a spring within a spring to help deliver increased ball speed and distance.

The high-strength titanium face features hollow portions in the heel that allows for a toe-side weight and because this optimizes the center of gravity, I managed to consistently strike the ball with a high launch, dispersion was tight and distance was very pleasing. That said, I didn’t notice any significant yardage gains over the XXIO 12 model when using different irons throughout the set. It’s also worth mentioning that I felt equally comfortable and in control with the short irons around the green.

The best thing about these irons is that they deliver effortless power, as well as forgiveness, and you cannot help but feel confident when using them. Yes, they come with a high price tag, but are a worthwhile long-term investment if you want to give your iron play a boost. As it says etched on the back of each iron - Experience The Difference.

Ping is a brand with a well established reputation for producing some of the best putters, and the Louise is one of three models in Ping’s G Le3 range, which are designed specifically for women.

It’s named Louise in tribute to Ping’s co-founder Louise Solheim and is a mid-mallet style that borrows weight and shaping from the tour-proven PING DS72, but Louise differs with a mid-slant hosel and parallel tip shaft, which Ping says best suits a strong stroke.

I’m used to a mid-mallet style putter, so its appearance looked and felt familiar. It’s a clean looking design, there’s nothing to distract your eye, other than the white sightline to aid alignment. The back of the putter is firm, while the front, like all the putters in the G Le3 range, has a soft two-piece white insert with shallow grooves, combined in this way to deliver balance of feel and distance control. 

It comes with a Ping Pistol PP59 Deep Sea grip in the G Le3 colors - blue, gold, white and silver - and matching headcover. Of course, it depends on the size of your hands, but for me, this flat-fronted grip is bigger than the putter grip I’m currently playing, but I found the Louise grip to be more comfortable with just my thumbs resting on the front of the grip. For starters, I felt more in control when I addressed my putts.

As previously mentioned, this model is designed for a player with a strong stroke, which is not necessarily me, and I have to admit, on its first outing, I struggled with distance control, as I found that the ball flew off the face very quickly. But, as we all know, putters are an extremely personal piece of equipment and take time to get used to, and over a few rounds, I’ve now experienced the benefits of Louise. 

There’s no need to force this putter, especially on long putts, it just needs a gentle stroke and the ball will consistently roll smoothly towards the hole (and into it!) with a pleasant sound off the clubface as it travels on its way. It feels nicely balanced through impact, so overall with a premium look and feel, if you like a mid-mallet style, this putter is worth considering. 

The XXIO 13 ladies driver forms part of the latest range of premium clubs from the Japanese manufacturer, which is aimed at mid to high handicappers with a slow to moderate swing swing speed. I tested XXIO 12 in 2022, and I absolutely loved it, so I was keen to find out how this new edition compares with its predecessor and if it will remain as one of the best drivers for women.

The colorway and styling of the large clubhead hasn’t changed a great deal. The crown remains a striking deep blue and it’s very shiny. Personally, I like it, but some women might be put off, as it reflects in bright sunlight. There’s a subtle alignment aid on the top of the crown that’s mixed in with tiny diamond-shaped accents, while the sole of this updated model has a more streamlined design in two-tone blue and silver.

In fairness, because I had previously been impressed by the XXIO driver, I felt comfortable and confident with it in my hands as soon as I stepped on the tee. It feels nicely weighted, and without realising, one of the secrets of this driver is that there is mass in the butt-end of the shaft, under the grip and behind your hands. It’s designed with this counterweight to make it easier for women to take the club away, to find the ideal spot at the top of their swing and for easier release on the downswing.

The weight of this driver with a 11.5 degree loft suits me perfectly and It is definitely one of the most easy-to-use drivers that I have tested this year, along with the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast. I won’t blind you with science, but let’s just say, in addition to the swingweight, this driver is packed to the hilt with technology, and is  testament to its performance.

Of course, we all want forgiveness on every shot, and the new ActivWing technology, which basically helps guide the clubface into the optimal strike position, means that you can find the sweet spot more easily and improve ball speed. 

Forgiveness is great, but what impressed me most was that with better ball speed came improved carry and distance, and I consistently gained extra yards. Credit should be given to the Rebound Frame with a Flat Cup Face that acts like a spring within a spring and it’s this that helps to generate more power across the face. The face is also split into six sections, known as Bulge and Roll, so wherever you strike it on the face, spin is imparted to help the ball stay straight and fly further. I should also add that the sound off the clubface is very satisfying.

This is a fantastic club, one of the most forgiving drivers on the market, and I would say that the XX1O 13 delivers even more power than its predecessor. It doesn’t come cheap, but if my results are anything to go by, it’s money well spent.

For years, Japanese manufacturer XXIO has been developing ultra lightweight clubs that cater to players with swing speeds of 90 mph or less, and within this new XXIO line for 2024, is a women’s range with specific technology to make it easier to hit the sweet spot time after time.

I tested the 22-degree 4-hybrid. I appreciate that I’m biased because I’m a fan of the color blue, so I was immediately attracted to the glossy dark blue crown and two-tone dark and light blue shaft. I also noticed that this is another brand supplying clubs with white headcovers, which are clearly all the rage, if not the most practical color to keep clean.

Interestingly, when comparing this hybrid with Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast hybrid, both have a comfortable swingweight, although the XXIO hybrid is approximately an inch shorter in length.  

XXIO 13 sits nicely behind the ball, which is exactly what you want from this club, designed to instil confidence and help women play with ease from a variety of lies. 

I found it effortless to swing this club and to pop the ball up into the air with noticeable speed. My ball striking was very consistent, even from fairly damp fairways and light rough. 

For that reason I should give a nod to the ActivWing technology that has been incorporated into this new generation. It’s an airfoil shape that harnesses aerodynamic forces during the swing to maintain proper clubhead positioning during the downswing, so this helps guide the clubhead into the ideal position at impact. 

Ultimately, ActivWing combined with an all-new BiFlex Face that acts as a strong frame around the clubface means that you can find the sweet spot more often, and I did!

The XXIO 13 is a very versatile and easy-to-use hybrid, and as one of the best women's hybrids on the market, it is worth considering if you have a gap in your bag.

The Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast driver is one of four driver models in this new family of woods and irons for 2024. It’s designed for women who are looking for a lightweight club that launches the ball with ease and delivers on performance, so I was keen to see if this driver passed the test on all accounts as one of the best women's drivers on the market.

Let’s first talk about aesthetics. Without doubt this is a luxurious looking driver. The carbon crown is a dark smokey gray color with a very subtle pattern that is almost invisible at address. It’s quite shiny though, which might take getting used to for some players. 

I like the color of the sole, which is a lighter gray/white and has a mottled effect, along with a striking blue swingweight. The graphite shaft is a women’s flex and also largely dark gray, so the shaft and head combined is unfussy and this makes it very easy on the eye.

Callaway clubs come with soft and tacky grips, and this provided me with confidence. I immediately felt comfortable with this driver in my hands, plus the weight is very nicely distributed, similar to that of the Ping G Le3 and XXIO 13 driver. 

For the Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast, this is thanks to an internal titanium support structure, allowing for a 15% lighter carbon chassis, with mass being redistributed into the head for improved launch and added forgiveness.

For this range of clubs, forgiveness is a story on its own because the Ai Smart Face is promoted as the brand’s most technologically advanced and sophisticated face ever. Using real player data and state-of-the-art machine learning, sweet spots have been created all over the face so it should be impossible to hit a bad shot.

I must admit, forgiveness was the most impressive feature of this driver. I had not played a lot of golf when I tested this club, but I stood on the 1st tee, swung it with ease and watched the ball soar straight down the fairway, so it got a big thumbs up straight away and I was excited to use it again.

On every tee shot, while it was not always my best strike, the ball flew straight and I completely got away with it. The loft on my usual driver is 11.5, whereas this was 10.5 (12-degree is also available). I’m not suggesting this contributed to less than perfect tee shots, but psychologically I wondered if I needed one degree more!

It was effortless to generate power and when I caught it well, the sound off the face was incredible and with noticeable distance. Given there was no run on the ball, I’m looking forward to testing this driver again in the summer. 

This is one of the most forgiving drivers on the market, so for women with a slower swing speed who are looking for an easy-to-swing club with consistent accuracy, it's definitely worth considering.

The Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast hybrid is one of three hybrid models in Callaway's new family of woods and irons for 2024. The whole range incorporates an Ai Smart Face, which Callaway promotes as the standout feature and most technologically advanced and sophisticated face ever. 

These new clubs have been created using real player data and state-of-the-art machine learning to produce sweet spots all over the face for effective strikes even on mishits. I was therefore keen to find out how the Paradym Ai Smoke Fast (4) stacks up against its competitors. 

The Ai Smoke Max hybrid and Ai Smoke HL hybrid are designed for players with average to high swing speeds looking to maximise distance and improve shot dispersion, whereas the Ai Smoke MAX Fast (men's and women's model) is designed for players like myself who are looking to increase swing speed, launch, and spin for greater distance, as well as helping to fill a gap that you might have in your bag.

Unlike Callaway’s Big Bertha Reva women’s range, which includes woods that have an ultra-shiny electric blue crown, this hybrid has a dark grey matte finish, or perhaps I should describe the colour as smokey. 

Of course, as with all the best golf clubs, how they look and feel comes down to personal preference, but I like this club’s overall aesthetic that also includes a turquoise accent and a bright blue ‘Smoke’ logo on the steel-finished sole, which complements the grey beautifully. 

I really like the buttery, soft and tacky grip, although comparing this hybrid with the women’s Ping G Le3, the grip is noticeably larger. Despite this, it felt comfortable and with a shallow profile and a flat crown, it sits flush behind the ball at address. 

Fitted with a 40 g women's flex graphite shaft, the swingweight felt good, and using this club off the fairway and from the light rough, I can honestly say that it is difficult to fault because every time I found it effortless to get the ball airborne and shots flew a consistently good distance with a penetrating ball flight. 

I’m sure I didn’t strike the ball from the center of the clubface every time, proving this hybrid is ultra forgiving and the new Ai Smart Face definitely works. There is nothing better than using a club for the first time and hitting a great shot because then you’re confident you want to pull it out of the bag again and again - and that’s how I felt with this club.

In terms of looks and performance, for the standard of player for which it is designed, this club is destined to be one of the best hybrids on the market.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast hybrid retails at $279/£299.

The G Le3 hybrid is part of Ping’s iron/hybrid combo solution for golfers so they can make an easier transition from irons to hybrids and create an ideal set makeup with optimum gapping.

Aesthetically, it’s a lovely looking club with an understated navy clubhead that’s complemented with gold and silver accents and a color-coordinated shaft. I really like the new three-dot alignment aid on the crown. The middle dot is slightly larger and I found this makes for an easy set-up.

Compared with its predecessor, G Le2, the 4, 5, 6 and 7-hybrid are an additional quarter-inch in length. It’s a minimal adjustment, but aims to ensure more consistent gapping between clubs, and Ping’s data does reflect improvements across the entire set making it one of the best golf hybrid clubs on the market.

I’m not a confident hybrid player, as I often lack accuracy and consistency with this club, however, from the very first shot, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed. Like the G Le fairway woods, the hybrids have a maraging steel face that flexes at a faster rate to encourage a high launch and longer carry.

I felt really comfortable and confident with this club in my hands. It sits nicely behind the ball and the weight suited me. I was able to swing at the ball and fully commit through the shot, knowing that the weight puts it amongst the most forgiving hybrids money can buy. 

I was impressed by the consistently straight ball flight and generous distance, and Ping would suggest this is due to the dual-roll face profile which is optimised to the target swing speed for consistent spin, especially higher on the face.

Hybrids are renowned for being versatile clubs and, over 18 holes, I used the 5-hybrid on a number of occasions from a variety of lies. I noticed the excellent turf interaction that enabled me to glide the club through the grass while maintaining control of my swing. This hybrid is definitely a handy club to have in your bag.

Continuing the success of previous generations, the G Le3 is designed as an iron/hybrid combo solution, so golfers can create the ideal set makeup with optimal gapping.

The irons, 6 through 9 iron with three wedge options (PW, UW, SW), are designed with the same intention as the family of woods in the G Le3 range, and that is to allow women with a slow to moderate swing speed to swing the club faster for greater ball speed and more distance.

I love the colour scheme of the stainless-steel head – navy with a touch of gold and silver, these are sophisticated looking irons. It’s also worth mentioning the soft and comfortable Lamkin grip in matching navy making it an appealing option in the best golf irons for women department.

Although not obvious, compared with its predecessor, G Le2, these irons are lighter overall because the high-density heel and toe weights allow for light swing weights. I found them easy to swing, they’re nicely weighted, not too head heavy.  

Over 18 holes, I knew when I’d hit the sweet spot by the exhilarating feel and sound, but the good thing is, even bad shots flew ok, thanks to a new thinner face which positions mass low and to the perimeter, so it was noticeable how I could get away with mishits, although they didn’t sound great! I thought these were some of the most forgiving irons that money can buy, especially as I was able to let the club do the work, enjoying a weighty punch behind the ball. Shots flew high and were generally pretty accurate with decent and consistent distance.

The standout club for me was the sand wedge, as Ping has applied its design attributes of the iconic EYE2 sand wedge to the G Le3 model. It has a slimmer hosel, wider sole and a more traditional head shape which puts it amongst one of the best Ping irons on the market.

As someone that often struggles with intimidating short game shots, I found this club to be a game changer, simply because it has a confidence-boosting appearance, so I felt in complete control when addressing the ball, and it worked!

The third-generation Ping G Le driver is designed for women with a swing speed of 80mph or less to help generate more ball speed, higher launch and greater distance.

In my opinion, the colourway of the latest G Le clubs, which is largely navy with gold and silver accents, is the best yet in the G Le range. The driver looks and feels exceptionally stylish, and provided me with immediate comfort on the tee, something that is a common theme throughout the best Ping drivers.

It has a large but unfussy 460cc titanium head and the crown is topped with a series of angled ridges, which create the turbulator technology that Ping is known for. These ridges improve the way air flows around the clubhead to deliver faster ball speeds and they also frame the ball nicely at address. 

Compared with its predecessor, G Le2, I didn’t notice significant distance gains, although Ping says it’s the longest women’s driver to date, boasting an extra four yards for the average golfer. However, in addition to the colourway, there are noticeable improvements to this lightweight driver. Thanks to the fixed weight at the back, this allows for a low and slightly heel side centre of gravity position that means the Ping G Le3 is one of the most forgiving drivers in the game.

In testing, I found that I could generate effortless power to easily get the ball airborne on a penetrating trajectory. Consistently producing long and straight drives, I also appreciated the sound at impact, which is another important contributing factor that makes it one of the best golf drivers for women on the market.

I tested this driver with the loft set as standard at 11.5°, but there is the option to adjust the hosel to a loft of +/- 1.5°. The ALT250 lite shaft suited my swing, I found it offered enough flex and gave me the ability to stay in complete control of my shots. An ultra lite shaft is also available.

It’s difficult to fault this forgiving driver, which I believe is one of the best drivers for slow swing speeds that we have tested. Certainly it's an option that should be considered if you are wanting to add to your bag.

Cobra Air-X Women’s Driver Review

The dreaded slice. It’s a distance-robbing shot shape that many golfers endure for life. No matter how many lessons golfers take this destructive swing tendency can be difficult to shake off. A large majority of women golfers manage a slice. It’s often the result of a poor grip, a steep swing move into the ball, and a lack of understanding of how the hands work to produce a release to square up the club. It can be confusing, so it's no wonder manufacturers are constantly working on designs that give you a helping hand. 

The Cobra Air-X women’s driver offers a genuine solution among the very best drivers for slicers. It has a pronounced off-set hosel that’s designed specifically to counteract the typical slicer’s shot pattern by giving the golfer more time to return the clubface to square. To my discerning eye, the clubhead is very obviously closed (pointing left) to the target at address and I found myself wanting to manipulate it back to square, but slicers will appreciate the way this sets up.

If you’re a strong player like me, who already hits a draw, then this is quite off-putting. On the other hand, the vast majority of users who hit a slice will quickly adjust to the look of the closed face, and the benefits will be game-changing. Driving the ball straighter equals hitting the ball further. I was certainly impressed with the high launch, effortless height and super fast speed off the face. The hitting experience placed it among the upper echelon of the best golf drivers for women.

This is a light but well-balanced driver to swing through the air. In my opinion, it will really suit women who lack physical strength and swing speed. The weight-saving made by using a carbon crown material paired with Cobra’s own Women's Ultralite 40 (46.5 gram) shaft and lightweight Lamkin grip is clear. I really felt that I could generate a lot of speed without sacrificing control. The clubhead was also very stable as it traveled through the all-important hitting area, just like we experienced with the Air-X irons. 

The impact sound was incredibly loud, almost like a firework exploding, and the resulting propulsion off the face is impressive. What's more, the faster face has been cleverly designed to boost your distance, no matter where the ball strikes it, so those heel and toe miss hits fly almost as far as good hits. I witnessed this in action when I hit a basket of balls with a Flightscope Mevo launch monitor set up on the driving range to record my ball flight. My dispersion grouping was impressively tight.

The shiny black clubhead will divide opinion, based on whether the distraction of sunlight or your own reflection bothers you or not. I personally think that the Air-X looks luxurious, the paintwork reminds me of those high-quality, chauffeur-driven Mercedes C Class cars you see at airports. I particularly like the silver and metallic pink touches on the sole and complementing headcover.

While you won’t see the Cobra Air-X on your TV screens in the hands of Tour players like Lexi Thompson, it would certainly win the pro shop prize for best ‘slice-buster’ in my book. Ultimately hitting longer, straighter drives is an enticing prospect and this driver delivers.

XXIO 12 Ladies Irons Review

The XXIO 12 ladies irons from the premium Japanese brand’s line-up of products are aimed at mid to high handicappers with a slow to moderate swing speed to enhance distance and accuracy. I fit this category, so was very interested to find out what impact these irons would have on my game and how they compare with the best irons for women on the market.

The first impression is always important and this is a standout and classy looking iron, largely due to the abstract pattern at the top of the turquoise/blue shaft. The overall weight of this iron is really comfortable, thanks to XXIO’s dual technology, which combines an extremely lightweight shaft with a heavier clubhead. Yet, it feels well balanced and you're aware of where the clubhead is at all times during the swing.

Like all the clubs in the XXIO 12 range that includes the excellent XXIO 12 driver, hybrids and fairway woods, the main aim of these irons is to be able to increase swing speed and ball speed at the same time, but without the need to increase swing tempo or effort. I can confirm that this is exactly what they allow you to do. I don’t classify myself as a great iron player, I generally prefer using woods and hybrids, but over 18 holes, the XXIO 12 provided me with so much confidence that I began to look forward to pulling an iron out of the bag.

There are so many different components and technologies that contribute to this easy-to-swing and ultra-forgiving iron. Progressive variable face thickness and a tungsten-nickel weight in the toe optimises speed, stability and launch for each loft, while a thin titanium face allows the entire face to flex for maximum ball speed. The hosel is shortened to lower the centre of gravity for improved forgiveness as well as a higher trajectory and straighter ball flight.

Without forcing my swing, I found that I was able to attack the ball positively, and I consistently felt great contact and stability at impact. Perhaps due to feeling in complete control and having the ability to strike clean shots, I found that accuracy and distance was notably good too. From grip to toe, I cannot fault these irons. They have a luxury price tag, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. 

TaylorMade Kalea Premier Women's Golf Set Review

With more women playing golf than ever before, it is exciting to see manufacturers innovating to help improve the range of clubs on offer to female golfers. The TaylorMade Kalea Premier range represents an exciting addition to the women’s golf equipment market, designed to be customised to compliment the physical attributes of female golfers and improve their performance from tee to green. 

Having tested these clubs at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Italy, the home of the 2023 Ryder Cup, we can certainly vouch that these are some of the best women’s golf clubs on the market. But it’s also clear that TaylorMade has gone the extra mile designing this 11-piece club set with input from a women’s advisory committee, set up specifically to assist the brand develop premium golf clubs that can help female golfers play better. 

Now it is worth noting that TaylorMade is selling this set slightly differently depending on where you are in the world. Aesthetically, Taylormade has maintained a sleek and refined design in this club set, which is similar to the color schemes on the older Kalea 3 model. Shades of dark blue and teal contrast well with the glossy stainless steel clubheads of the Kalea irons and the putter. Meanwhile, the driver and fairway woods take a lot of inspiration from TaylorMade’s SIM2 driver and feature a lightweight carbon fiber crown that just oozes class.

It’s safe to say you’ll look the part walking around the course with the Kalea Premier set. But you’ll also reap the rewards in terms of performance, as these clubs offer exceptional distances and control on your longer shots. And that’s why the driver is perhaps the main event here. It is a lightweight offering weighing 10g less than its predecessor, the Kalea 3 driver, and comes in a 12.5º loft as standard. It offers excellent forgiveness, which prevents mis-hit shots from veering too far off course. From the moment I picked it up I loved it because the light feel and weight balance is perfect, and I found it effortlessly easy to swing. Some better players with faster swingers may get on better with the Stealth HD women's driver, but the Kalea Premier should suit the majority of lady golfers.

Speaking of forgiveness, we were enamored at how much reprieve the Kalea Premier fairway woods offered. Their clubheads are 37 percent larger than the original Kalea 3 range, which might explain why we felt ourselves hitting these clubs off the ground and the tee very consistently. Well-struck shots were rewarded with impressive yardages, but what was most telling is that even our mis-hit shots comfortably stayed in play and traveled considerably long distances. The desirable rainbow-shaped ball flight ensures the ball lands softly with the same control you'd expect from a long iron. It's pretty handy out of the rough too. They come in three loft choices (3, 5 & 7 woods) so you can fill whatever fairway wood slot in the bag nicely.

You’ll see similar benefits in the Kalea Premier hybrids, which can be mixed and matched to provide a forgiving alternative to your long irons. The V-steel sole has been designed to glide, not dig, by reducing friction with the turf so you'll find it really easy to hit. It's also very handy out of the rough and I even enjoyed using it from shallow-faced fairway bunkers. Additionally my shots seemed to have a high ball flight and landed softly which is ideal for a hybrid. This Rescue is available in 4, 5, 6 and 7 loft options. 

Once you find yourself back on the fairway, you can take advantage of the Kalea Premier irons, which pack a real punch off the clubface and we found ourselves hitting the Kalea Premier 8-iron about the same distance as we would hit our standard 7-iron. They feel quite firm but that being said, I did find it relatively easy to manipulate shots and be more creative, hitting little low punch shots into the wind and even gentle draws and fades.  

We were pleased to see the Kalea Premier Spider Mini putter included in this range as it really adds to the quality of an already premium women’s golf set. The Spider franchise is one of the most reputable in golf, but this model is specifically designed for female golfers with a 15 percent reduction in its footprint compared to the standard Spider putter. It also has a specially-designed graphite shaft that weighs just 70g, which helps the rhythm and timing of your stroke. Additionally, the deep grooves on the putter face provided a reassuringly early true roll that helped putts stay online.

All these impressive clubs fit inside the lightweight Kalea Premier cart bag, which is one of the most stylish women's golf bags on the market.
