Winter is coming, so as we reluctantly wave goodbye to summer, golfers with a glutton for punishment will turn attention to the off-season wardrobe and its suitability in coping with the accompanying demands.

FJ’s proprietary DrySeal Technology, as well as the innovative double collar system which keeps rain out via a cinch cord on the inner layer and clever drainage holes on the outer layer, makes this 2021’s ultimate storm-beater.

Next in the men’s line-up is, as the name suggests, the supremely lightweight HydroLite jacket. This middle-of-the-range option is fully waterproof, with added breathability and stretch the big selling points at an RRP of £170.

The final men’s garment is the updated HydroKnit. The previous version was immensely popular as it doubled up as one of the best golf wind jackets, so the 2021 edition has plenty to live up to. 

A new construction means this versatile jacket is 30 per cent lighter than before, making it feel more like a midlayer than a fully fledged waterproof. 

Unlike the others, it’s a half zip and FootJoy has added hand pockets for the 2021 version. 

The HydroKnit has an RRP of £150 and comes in three colourways: black and grey with lime; navy and denim; and charcoal with bright red and white.

All three come with accompanying waterproof bottoms suitable for wearing on their own, or the HydroTour (£170) and HydroLite (£120) also work as an over trouser. 

In the women’s range, the popular HLV2 has been given an update and offers full protection from the elements in a lightweight package. 

With its adjustable cuffs and 2.5-layer construction, it provides golfers with total freedom to swing with confidence.

At £160 and available in three different colours - black with silver, navy with silver, and heather grey with white - we think it’s an absolute steal.

The women’s line-up is completed by the full-zip HydroKnit, which can be yours in grey or navy and has an RRP of £200.

FootJoy Unveils Harris Tweed Collaboration Ahead Of The Open

FootJoy has today announced a collaboration with iconic brand Harris Tweed and has launched the limited edition Premiere Series Black Watch Packard shoes ahead of the Scottish Open and Open Championship later this month.

Launching ahead of the Scottish Open at Renaissance Club this week, the shoes complement the theme of links golf and will be sent to FootJoy ambassadors to wear at both the Scottish Open and The Open Championship at Royal St. George's the following week.

The Black Watch cloth, from the Harris Tweed Hebrides Heritage Collection, has been chosen to feature on this limited edition Premiere Series Packard shoe.

The Packard shoe was inspired by Frederick Packard, FootJoy's founder and shoe pioneer who drove the adoption of many modern manufacturing and design innovations still employed today.

While timeless in design, the Packard is infused with performance innovation, led by the all-new VersaTrax+ outsole which utilises multiple TPU compounds to grip any surface - a harder TPU for on-course grip and a softer TPU for traction on harder surfaces.

The Packard also features an Ortholite EcoPlush FitBed with perimeter stability in the heel as well as a super-soft underfoot cushioning.

Each shoe features its own unique piece of Harris Tweed Black Watch cloth on the saddle with each pair having its own blend of the blue, black and green wool used.

Each pair also comes with its own unique shoe bag made from the same Harris Tweed cloth.

Governed by The Harris Tweed Act, the fabric must be hand woven in the homes of the residents the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, to be able to use the Harris Tweed name and logo.

Harris Tweed cloth has been produced on the islands of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra for generations and the wool is dyed before being spun to allow a multitude of colours to be blended into the yarn.

FootJoy has launched a limited edition Pacific Sunset collection of its Premiere Series shoes, with the Packard and Flint uppers getting a Southern Californian pop of colour.

Ahead of the US Open this week, FootJoy has released the limited edition Pacific Sunset collection to celebrate the US Open returning to Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.

The Flint design, the spikeless offering in the limited edition range, was named after Perley Flint, a young Harvard graduate and avid golfer who designed FootJoy’s first golf shoe in the 1920s.

A smooth ChromoSkin leather is used in the upper, with embossed detailing on the saddle area, a refined FJ ornament as well as piping on the side.

FootJoy has announced a partnership with the Golf Foundation as its official clothing and shoe supplier as well as ongoing support to inspire future generations.

FootJoy has today announced a three-year partnership with the Golf Foundation as its official golf clothing and shoe supplier.

FootJoy will equip Golf Foundation staff with a complete uniform as well as supply prizes through the Golf Foundation's school programmes and wider events.

Supplying uniform and prizes for the Golf Foundation isn't the only part of the deal however, and FootJoy has a number of exciting collaborations planned throughout the year, and beyond, that will bring it to life and support a thriving next generation of golfers from all backgrounds.

Pre-Covid, the Golf Foundation provided an introduction to golf to over 500,000 young people a year through its HSBC Golf Roots programme, with 130,000 boys and girls receiving coaching from a PGA professional in their school.

Most recently, in 2019, the Golf Foundation introduced the GolfSixes League which catalysed significant uplift in junior participation and club membership figures.

FootJoy Premiere Series Golf Shoes Unveiled For 2021

You've seen them on tour, along with the new HyperFlex shoe, and now they are ready to be released to golfers around the world.

Designed in collaboration with a number of PGA Tour players, FootJoy's brand new Premiere Series features three new upper designs, inspired by the past but made relevant for today.

The new Premier Series has been "influenced by the discerning taste of the modern golfer," FootJoy says, with each collection made from soft, supple premium leather uppers and ultra-lightweight materials.

The distinctly modern classic styling has been achieved by exquisite detailing from the FootJoy designers and they come in 12 per cent lighter than the popular DryJoys Tour.

The Premiere Series has had a very successful start to life on tour, having been the number one shoe at The Masters.

FootJoy is confident that it will be worn by more Tour players in 2021 than any other golf shoe, including the likes of Justin Thomas, Adam Scott, Ian Poulter, Webb Simpson and many more.

The three new collections are called the Tarlow, the Packard and the Flint, named after FootJoy's founders and offering up different upper designs and characteristics.

There is also a women's range, and all models can be fully customised via the MyJoys personalisation platform.

The Tarlow collection comes in two colours and is inspired by Bill and Dick Tarlow, who bought the FootJoy business in 1957 and focused the brand primarily on golf.

It is FootJoy's modern interpretation of the timeless cap toe design, made with a natural grain leather in the vamp (the middle part of the upper above the foot) and the quarter (the back part of the upper), complemented by a coordinated croc print in the heel, cap toe and eyestay (lace area).

The midsole has a natural leather welt and contrast stitch and the cleated outsole provides ample grip in different conditions.

Then there's the Packard collection, which comes in all black or white and is inspired by Frederick Packard, FootJoy’s founder and a shoe pioneer who drove the adoption of many modern manufacturing and design innovations that are still used today.

The Packard collection features exquisite detailing and a pebble grain leather in both the vamp and the quarter.

The collection uses a calfskin croc print accent in the saddle area, complemented by a natural leather welt and contrast stitching.

Finally, there is the spikeless Flint, which comes in three colours and was named after Perley Flint, a young Harvard graduate and avid golfer who designed FootJoy’s first golf shoe in the 1920s.

A smooth ChromoSkin leather is used in the upper, with embossed detailing on the saddle area, a refined FJ ornament as well as piping on the side.

The shoe has premium lambskin linings inside and a new fitbed for exceptional comfort.

Whilst all of the Premiere Series shoes look classic, there is plenty of cutting-edge technology in them to provide performance on the course, led by the all-new VersaTrax+ outsole.

This anti-channelling tread pattern is engineered to provide grip for any lie or angle, providing total traction coverage and reducing any slippage.

VersaTrax+ utilises multiple TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) compounds to grip any surface – a harder TPU for on-course grip and a softer TPU for traction on harder surfaces.

Comfort comes from FootJoy's Ortholite EcoPlush FitBed that delivers perimeter stability in the heel as well as super-soft and comfortable custom underfoot cushioning.

“We saw a terrific opportunity to completely reinvent the classically inspired golf shoe from the ground up and to accomplish that we leveraged every ounce of innovation, as well as direct input from the world’s best players, to deliver next-level performance with a distinctly modern take on classic design," Chris Tobias, Vice President, FJ Footwear said.

The new FootJoy HyperFlex shoe unveiled today features an all-new BOA lacing system and outsole design to provide a better fit and comfort on the course

FootJoy is looking to continue its dominance in the golf shoe market with the launch of HyperFlex, a shoe tuned specifically for golf thanks to a new BOA lacing system and outsole design.

The original FJ HyperFlex was launched in 2015 and boasted an athletic-inspired styling and materials. This remains the case on this latest iteration with two of the four new styles available feature an all-new Wrapid BOA Fit System.

2021 FootJoy HyperFlex Shoe Review

This asymmetrical configuration ensures a precision fit with a reduction in pressure on the top of the foot that enables the shoe to move with you, wrapping your foot in complete comfort while providing powerful support through the swing.

The all-new OptiFlex outsole features dual flex grooves that flex naturally with your foot for comfort as well as a thin, semi-rigid TPU flex plate that promotes multidirectional flexure and traction where you need it in the golf swing. The dream scenario for any golfer when it comes to footwear is a golf shoe that performs on the course but also looks at home away from the course too.

Secondly, the traction points are positioned in a non-linear way with each at different angles so the shoe is always able to find the next traction element to catch onto the ground which maintains grip and prevents slipping.

The new outsole configuration utilises multiple TPU compounds to grip any surface – a harder TPU for on-course grip and a softer TPU for traction on harder surfaces. It is also noticeably green friendly.

For the upper, FootJoy has used a soft, premium NappaLuxe Premiere leather upper from Pittards of England that benefits from a special tanning process to achieve an ultra-luxurious, supple feel. It features an athletic-fit construction, generous across the forefoot with an integrated tongue for all-around comfort and a reinforced heel for greater rear foot stability.

The FootJoy Stratos shoe comes in four colours in men’s (white, grey, navy and cognac) and three in women’s (white/grey, blue/green and silver) with an RRP of £159.99 and a one-year waterproof warranty.

Who Is The FootJoy Stratos Shoe Aimed At?

Richard Fryer, FootJoy’s Footwear Director of Product Management, explains more about where Stratos fits into the FootJoy shoe range.

What gap in the FJ range does Stratos fill? We spent a lot of time analysing the market and listening to consumers and, whilst we have a very broad range already, there was one key consumer need that we weren’t hitting. The golfer – both male and female – looking for a premium, luxury, spikeless model, with a casual aesthetic.

What will the user experience be like versus a Pro SL? Whilst technically Pro SL is also a leather spikeless product, it is geared almost solely for on-course play. Stratos will be a slightly softer ride than the Pro SL while the VersaTrax+ outsole broadens the wearing opportunity of the shoe. The Pro SL will also provide a little more structure and stability in the upper, while Stratos will be more mobile and inclined to move more readily with the foot through the swing.

What feature are you most proud of and why? Whilst people will be drawn to the rich, soft leather upper, it has to be the midsole/outsole unit that we’re most proud of. With the StratoFoam midsole – as the name suggests – it’s like walking on clouds, delivering comfort but crucially with rebound and energy return to minimise fatigue.

GM Review While last year’s Flex shoe was a stylish, versatile option at a very appealing price point, golfers today expect their shoes to be waterproof, especially in Europe’s changeable climates. So the Flex XP was created, providing that same comfort and casual styling of Flex, but with one year’s waterproof protection guaranteed.

Trendy and versatile, the three colour choices available will go with any outfit and look the part off the course too. We’d also say it has quite a roomy fit, being quite wide in the mid-foot area, so be sure to try a pair on before buying to get the right size.

FootJoy has made a change to the look and feel of the upper - it has a more textured look and feel to it that is almost ribbed or a bumpy effect, which we think looks quite smart but does seem to make dirt more difficult to remove than if it was smooth.

The Flex XP maintains that light, soft and flexible overall feel that makes it the ideal summer shoe but that can now repel any early morning dew or an unforeseen rain shower, meaning you can wear them for more of the year.

There is an element of support too from the wider and thicker heel section but the spring in your step as you walk is arguably more noticeable.

Most other shoes in FootJoy’s spikeless range, like the Pro SL and Pro SL Carbon, will offer slightly better grip and support, but the rubber outsole on Flex XP provides an adequate footing for all but the worst of lies and wettest conditions.

Excellent support

These lightweight shoes provide incredibly good support, comparable with shoes with a much more rigid feel, and that’s testament to their design and construction.

The high-density Eva Fit-Bed and bootie-fit construction ensure a wonderfully neat and supportive fit.

The Flex XP looks like a summer shoe and it performs well in warmer conditions, it’s light and breathable and your feet stay cool when the temperature goes up. But, if the heavens open when you’re on course, or you’re playing in an early morning dew, they will also keep you dry.

The FootJoy Flex XP shoe is another great offering from FootJoy. It’s ideal for a golfer seeking a lightweight shoe that will be comfortable off the course and stable on it. The addition of lightweight waterproof uppers further increases the versatility of this excellent shoe.

The FootJoy Pro/SL has been the most popular spikeless shoe in the world over recent seasons. It has been improved upon in 2020 with the release of the impressive Pro/SL Carbon. This is an extremely comfortable and stable spikeless shoe.

Extra stability

The Pro/SL Carbon is noticeably a little more rigid in all directions than the Pro/SL, ideal for golfers with overactive lower halves that need even more stability during their swing. Despite that, it still feels supremely comfortable thanks to the extra padding around the ankle.

Sporting style

We love the crossover look of the Pro/SL Carbon – It’s sporty and modern but it nods to golfing heritage and is clearly still a golf shoe. Available in two colours and with snazzy two-tone laces, it’s a great looking shoe.

Overall the FootJoy Pro/SL Carbon represents a step up from the Pro/SL – Stylish and with excellent new technologies to enhance stability, traction and support. This is one of the most comfortable golf shoes out there.

FootJoy’s Tour S has been around for a couple of years now, and the brand believes the improvements in this latest incarnation are enough to warrant the upgrade in name from S to X (think X factor). Having worn these shoes quite a bit since they first hit the office, we’d be inclined to agree.

FootJoy says it has garnered feedback from the world’s best players, then taken the best features from previous Tour S models and blended them with the standout features from its  D.N.A. Comfort and performance

We really like the styling, which has a more modern look, while comfort and performance have certainly moved on too. The outsole design takes lateral stability to new levels and allowed us to swing pretty much as hard as we wanted with no fear of the unwanted movement or slipping that can rob you of both power and strike, regardless of the conditions.

It feels more comfortable to walk in too – more akin to the soft, bouncy feel of the Fury – and that’s great news for the six miles or so of walking you typically do in an 18-hole round. A softer, thicker tongue adds to the comfort.

The Tour X genuinely offers everything you could want from a golf shoe and we confidently predict you’ll be seeing scores of golfers with these on their feet in 2020.

FootJoy has launched its new Spring/Summer apparel line to kickstart the golfer’s season in 2020.

Incorporating brand new floral and flock of bird prints, there are four new colour collections in the men’s range and two new colour collections in the women’s Golf Leisure range to compliment the Essentials lines.

The collections feature the latest in performance fabrics and fits to ensure the golf remains comfortable in a range of weather conditions and unrestricted throughout the swing. Designs range from understated to eye-catching and everything between, ensuring that there is something to suit every taste.

The Spirit collection is designed for the golfer who wants to make a statement on the golf course. Infused with pale pink colour trends morphing to more intense shades, the collections also include soft grey tinted with blue, notably in the Birdseye Argyle Print Polo pictured.

The sophisticated Royal collection features moody black and Royal colours tinted with the neutralising tones of grey. Prints continue to gain importance this season, highlighted by the Lisle Flower Print Polo.

Within the mosaic collection, spring-like shades of yellow and coral have been softened to create complementary tones, which can be paired with the harmonising patterns featured throughout the range. Meanwhile, Deep Slate grey infused with violet complete the colour story.

“We sought inspiration for the collections from numerous avenues, whether it was working with our forecasting agencies, reading design magazines or gathering ideas while we’re travelling," Principal Apparel Designer Nancy Harding commented.

"Ultimately, you select colours which fit your brand identity and work well with your materials, how you combine colours within a collection is of upmost importance.”

Mint forms a key colour for Spring 2020, with the refreshing tones utilised to create a balanced range. Inspired by the colours of the sea, the collection is complemented by soft purple tones, with deep blue shades replacing navy for a fresher appearance and engineered stripes becoming simpler and cleaner.

For the first time, the ladies Golf Leisure range introduces two colour collections: Jade and Rose. Both collections aim to brighten a golfer’s wardrobe, featuring vibrant shades that the ranges are aptly named along with Heather Grey, Navy and White. GolfLeisure strives to offer women the current season’s blend of on-course performance needs with off-course comfort and styling.

New FootJoy Pro/SL Shoes Unveiled

For 2020, FootJoy has reinvented the immensely popular Pro/SL shoe and also added an even more stable version in the form of the Pro/SL Carbon. 

The new Pro/SL features an Infinity outsole, which is 11.5 per cent wider than the previous version and also has 30 per cent more traction points with the ground for increased grip.

There’s also a redesigned Power Harness for support and the upper is now made of soft Chromoskin leather, which is waterproof and more breathable.

The dual density midsole is made up of firmer Fine-Tuned Foam (FTF) around the perimeter for stability underneath a softer foam for enhanced cushioning.

The Pro/SL Carbon may look similar, but it in fact has a carbon fibre inlay integrated into the midsole running along the entire length of the shoe.

This is said to increase stability, torsion rigidity and ground force optimization.

The Carbon fibre flexes and elastically snaps back to its moulded position with each step recovering more of the energy generated while walking and allowing the body to work less. This will result in less leg and foot fatigue at the end of the round.

It also boasts a soft 3D molded collar and an Ortholite Impressions FitBed for comfort as well as two-tone laces for a different look compared with Pro/SL.

“As the industry leader, we didn’t tweak or adjust the new Pro|SL, we innovated and advanced and received Tour approval," Richard Fryer, Director of Product Management FJ Footwear, told GM.

“As a result, we’ve developed a product that delivers more stability, more traction, more comfort and more choice, setting the standard in performance footwear, again”.

The new FootJoy Pro/SL and Pro/SL Carbon shoes go on sale February 2nd with the following RRPs: Pro/SL £149.99 in five colours (one in BOA), Pro/SL Carbon £179.99 in two colours.

The Tour S shoe launched at the start of 2018 was unquestionably a very good shoe offering impressive stability, although coming in at over £200 it perhaps went beyond that ceiling price golfers were willing to pay for a pair of shoes.

But in the new Tour X, FootJoy claims to literally deliver the ‘X’ Factor by combining the best of Tour S with the leading features of D.N.A. Helix and Fury without breaking the bank.

By also seeking out feedback from the world’s best players, Tour X claims to deliver the best of everything in terms of grip, comfort, stability and protection.

Even more stability than Tour S comes from the TPU PowerPlate outsole, which houses nine Launch Pods, translucent in colour and positioned wider with cleats at the edges for perimeter stability and grip. You’ll also notice the bold Tour X graphic, which you will likely spot during golf coverage on TV on a player's follow through.

To provide additional support, you’ll notice the PowerStrap across the midfoot. This is assisted by reinforced lacing eyelets, allowing you to pull your laces tighter for a more snug and secure fit.

Comfort comes from the Ortholite Impressions FitBed we saw in the Fury shoe which features two layers, one that returns to its original shape and another memory foam layer that gradually moulds to the shape of your foot over time. A 3D Foam collar, similar to what appeared on the D.N.A. Helix shoe, provides comfort around your ankle.

There’s also a Tour-Spec stretch tongue with an elasticated goring strap for a soft feeling on top of your foot. A supple feel will also be experienced from the upper, which is made from a soft, breathable and waterproof ChromoSkin leather by Pittards.

The FootJoy Tour X shoe comes in three colours, including a BOA option, and goes on sale January 15th with an RRP of £179.99.

GM Verdict
You may have seen me wearing a new FootJoy shoe in videos over the last couple of months. You've now no doubt twigged that it was the Tour X, FootJoy's latest cleated performance shoe. The reason you'll have seen me wearing it a lot is because I like it, a lot.

The Tour S was an impressive shoe but coming in at over £200 initially, golfers were reluctant to experience the benefits of the stability it offered. Tour X takes care of any shortfalls of Tour S, including the price, by being more comfortable and looking more modern.

It is arguably FootJoy’s most complete, cleated performance golf shoe. It has the lateral stability golfers need to create a solid base and a strong connection with the ground in abundance. It allowed us to swing with power and control and no fear of unwanted movement or slipping, regardless of the conditions.

Yet underfoot, it has a similarly soft, bouncy feel of Fury, which you certainly notice when walking between shots. The tongue is also softer, thicker and fits much better on the top of your foot, helped by the elasticated strap adding flexibility.

FootJoy has really nailed the look too, striking that perfect balance of having lots of technology on show, notably the PowerStrap that provides great midfoot support, and colour pops to catch your eye without overdoing it. Tour X looks more premium and cutting edge than Tour S, in our opinion.

The colour choices are somewhat limited, but the neutral main colours help to match Tour X to multiple outfits. The clean, white toe section is pleasing to look down on and the see-through Launch Pods are certainly less noticeable.

When the weather is changeable, usually so is the outer layer you have to wear. But not if you’re the owner of the FootJoy HydroKnit Pullover.

Most definitely not a jacket, this top provides the versatility every British golfer is looking for when it comes to the ideal golfing garment.

It’s soft and stretchy like you would expect from a modern mid-layer, but boasts the protection of a waterproof. It’s a dream combination and one that will surely make it a big hit.

We love the feel of the fabric and how well it fits. It’s snug without restricting the swing and the elastic section on the back of the hem provides extra movement while offering decent rear coverage.

Velcro cuffs ensure the sleeves don’t ride up and down unnecessarily and there’s even an inside chest pocket for your scorecard.

Pour water on the fabric and it disappears in an instant, so you know you’ll stay dry when the rain comes and it is also just as effective at keeping the wind out. We testing it on a warm, muggy day, but at no point did we feel excessively hot or sweaty – so it’s clearly a very breathable garment too.

It makes you wonder why you'd need a waterproof jacket - perhaps if you prefer the full-zip design - given how well it keeps water at bay.

We’d like to have seen pockets at the waist and the part of the collar that comes into contact with your neck could have been designed a little softer and less intrusive, but all-in-all this is a very thoughtful, practical jacket clearly built with the serious golfer in mind.

It’s stylish too, with accents of colour bolstering the modern look and three choices available to match your favourite outfit.

The majority of tour players and amateur golfers don’t like playing in the rain and certainly don’t like playing wearing a jacket. But in the form of the new HydroKnit pullover, FootJoy thinks it has created the solution.

We are seeing a trend towards lightweight, athletic summer golf shoes and the FootJoy Flex might just be the best of the bunch.

Ideal for a quick nine holes after work or some practice time, it combines a host of appealing features. The styling is right on point – the two-tone mesh upper and subtle details mean this shoe will go with multiple outfits in any of the three colours you may opt for.

Performance In the dry conditions it’s designed for, the grip was surprisingly effective. There’s also an element of lateral stability to provide some support and control on tee shots.

It’s certainly a wider-fitting shoe than most other FJ models, especially around the midfoot, so be sure to try before you buy. Once laced up, it feels smooth and soft all around, particularly under foot and around the ankle.

Comfort is unquestionably the stand-out feature – you could walk 18 holes and wear the shoes in the clubhouse and then home without feeling the need to take them off.

The fact it’s not a waterproof model will put some people off, but we see many golfers opting for Flex as a second shoe for summer given the lower price point, working in conjunction with a higher performance, waterproof pair for competitive rounds or when the weather forecast is iffy. For Spring/Summer 2019, FootJoy has launched its most varied performance range of clothing to date.

The range features four new collections: Nautic, Verso, Ocean, Prosper; each offering complementary pieces throughout.

This jacket is for golfers who want a warm, stylish option they can wear on and off the golf course.

Key technology The FootJoy Fleece Quilted jacket has a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating, which offers added wet-weather protection. Lightweight insulation keeps the golfer warm, while the stretch properties allow the wearer to swing freely.

A full-length water-repellent zip up to the neck also helps to keep out the elements. It features two zipped side pockets for additional storage or hand warming and a zipped ‘scorecard’ pocket on the chest. It comes in black, navy or charcoal grey.

GM Review

The first thing you notice is the light weight and the soft feel inside the arms as you slide your hands in, thanks to the fleece lining. It comfortably keeps you warm without feeling bulky and both the body and arm sections offer a surprisingly high level of water resistance, which is helpful should a passing shower arrive.

We feel like the styling is neutral and subtle enough to work off the course - in fact we did find ourself wearing it to the pub and to meetings such is the smart but fairly casual vibe - but the quilted pattern on the front should add enough style to appeal to the modern golfer on the course.

Performance wise, this jacket has no problem in keeping you warm, dry and looking the part on and off the course.

Mobility isn’t an issue, either, as the stretchy material allows you to swing unimpeded. The front pockets regularly come in handy on cold days, while the elasticated cuffs stop the sleeves hanging down too far.

You could argue that there’s a little excess material around the torso, and that the styling is more appropriate off the course than on it, but the Quilted jacket has proven to be a worthy, versatile companion in the changeable British weather.

The new FootJoy Fury shoe has been designed from the inside-out to provide comfort around key contact points within the foot without sacrificing other key performance attributes like grip and stability.

The comfort comes from multiple sources, the first being the Trufit Inner Sleeve – a tongue system lasted underneath the insole board that wraps around the top of the foot to stop it moving from side to side and creating a distraction.

The dual layer fitbed comprises two densities of foam. The first is a memory foam layer that returns energy while the other moulds to your foot over time for a more customized fit.

Stability comes from the EVA outsole, which resists flexing in the lateral direction but flexes from front-to-back to aid walking comfort.

This is helped by a FlexGrid system that attaches the laces to the midsole for a more locked-in fit. In fact, it is more stable than the popular Pro/SL model.

Grip comes from the nine Softspikes Pulsar cleats combined with TPU nubs in key areas.

The waterproof, full grain leather upper is combined with weight saving mesh sections that are easier to clean thanks to a neoprene coating, which also enhances protection from the elements.

"FJ Fury’s TruFit System balances lightweight, responsive support with a new dynamic outsole that delivers comfort and stability throughout your round,” Richard Fryer, FootJoy Director of Product Management, told GM.

FootJoy Fury Shoe Review

Fury has the visual elements to catch your eye on the shelf and its appeal grows once you lace them up. You can read about the technology here.

It’s clearly a sporty, athletic offering targeting the young or young-at-heart golfer with a big focus on comfort without sacrificing performance. It’s actually more stable than Pro/SL and naturally offers more grip with its cleated outsole.

The sensation when you take your first steps is a soft feel with a more snug fit – you might find yourself going up half a size or needing to switch to a slightly thinner sock. This applies all around your feet – not just underneath – and you instantly have a spring in your step as you walk to the first tee.

It has influences from many popular FJ shoes past and present – the soft, spongy feeling of Freestyle with the look and stability of Hyperflex. This is no bad thing, taking the best of both and combining them to create a shoe almost everyone should enjoy.

The padding around the ankle is noticeable and welcome, as is the mesh section at the front of the shoe, which stops any creasing of the leather along the line where your toes flex – a minor complaint of Pro/SL or any shoes that utilize full leather uppers for that matter.

This strategically-placed mesh section means Fury should last a little longer and be easier to clean thanks to the neoprene coating.

Fury fills the gap in FJ’s range for a performance shoe that focuses mainly around comfort. The grip was also excellent, with all the different traction elements combining to maintain a stable footing, even on the different lies and conditions we tested them in.

The styling may we a stumbling block for some. There’s a fine line between popping off the shelf and alienating all but the most confident of golfers and Fury sits right between the two.

We think it looks great, although perhaps it looks marginally better on other people than looking down at your own where there's arguably one or two too many white lines.

As one of the best selling and most used shoes in the golfing world, FootJoy has announced updates to the Pro/SL shoe range with a series of new upper and colour combinations.

The Pro/SL is chosen by more of the world's top 100 golfers than any other shoe, such as Adam Scott, Ian Poulter, Louis Oosthuizen, Kevin Na and Andrew 'Beef' Johnston.

Additionally it has also been worn for 130 wins since it burst onto the golfing scene a couple of years ago.

Due to its popularity, the shoe was quickly added to the FJ MyJoys platform, which allows golfers to customise their shoes for size, width and colours, and this is where the new colour combinations will be available from November 15th onwards.

The grey/white and all black versions are also being launched at the same time.

“Of all the shoes I’ve worn throughout my career, these are by far the most comfortable,” said Ian Poulter who wore a custom pair of shoes through Europe’s recent Ryder Cup victory in Paris. “I get great grip in wet and dry conditions, plus with the BOA system, I can dial in the fit and comfort to get exactly what I want.”

FootJoy has launched its Autumn/Winter 2018 Performance Golf Apparel Collection ready for the inevitable cold and wet weather.

The new collection will be worn by the likes of Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Andrew “Beef” Johnston throughout the remainder of the 2018 season on the world’s leading Tours.

It sees the continuation of the popular DryJoys Tour LTS Jackets, Rain Shirts and Trousers in brand new colourways. The products offer lightweight waterproof performance through a minimal five-panel construction, as well as temperature regulating properties and stretch fabrication. The A/W 2018 line introduces three stylish new colour-ways; Black with Marine, Marine with Black & Tangerine, and Navy with Slate & White.

The DryJoys Tour LTS jacket (above, RRP £250) has just five panels and six seams, reducing weight and bulk while improving mobility. It is suitable for all-round play thanks to a specially developed ThermoLite bonded liner that maintains body heat when it's cool. When conditions are warm, the fibres wick moisture away from the body and expel heat.

It also features an all-new 3-layer Bonded Fabric which boasts soft, comfortable and quiet attributes, as well as 4-way stretch, ensuring mobile, comfortable and quiet movements.

The 2018 collection also features a newly constructed HydroLite jacket (above, RRP £158), the lightest material ever produced by FJ; a 2.5-Layer fabric which is stretchable, waterproof and breathable. Additions to the jacket this year include a front-panel pocket and HydroLite branding down the left sleeve.

Joining a host of other specialised garments to combat the cold and wind are two new colour families, each completed with polo shirts and Chill-Outs in seasonal colour tones. The Kauai collection incorporates Navy, Island Pink and White and includes the new Chill-Out Pullover with Engineered Sleeves (below, RRP £75).

While Marine Blue, Black, Tangerine and White all feature in the Orlando Beach-inspired Vero collection. The two collections are supported by a refreshed Essentials Collection for Autumn/Winter 2018 with an expanded mid-layer range featuring the hugely popular FJ Chill-Out Xtreme Pullovers in new colour combinations.

The collection also sees the introduction of several textured pieces, notably the FJ Thermal Quilted Jacket and Vests, and the FJ Fleece Quilted Jacket (above, RRP £120). These standout pieces have been designed to ensure maximum warmth for the coldest months, with the quilted construction retaining heat close to the body.

Aimed at The Arc SL shoes are aimed at golfers seeking spikeless comfort and performance on a modest budget.

Key technology The Arc SL gets its name from the Active Response Cushioning found within the midsole of the shoe offering high levels of comfort, while the TPU performance spikeless outsole provides the on and off-course versatility. The leather uppers come with a one-year waterproof guarantee and are soft, breathable and durable. A new SofCollar hugs the foot, supports the ankle and helps to secure the golfer throughout the swing. Arc SL comes in blue, silver or all-black colourways.

How we tested We wore a white/blue pair over a number of rounds throughout April and May in a variety of weather and course conditions.

GM Review

Styling We’d say that Arc SL has a look the exceeds its modest price point. It looks trendy and modern, generally clean and simple but with enough subtle details, like the perforation on the leather and coloured sections, to add shelf appeal.

Comfort The cushioning underfoot and around the ankle provides ample comfort without feeling bulky or restrictive. The leather uppers feel remarkably supple straight from the box and the fact they are lightweight too makes them even more pleasurable to wear.

Traction The nubs on the outsole are different shapes and sizes and work together to provide a surprising high level of grip. In wet conditions there is still a decent amount of grip - you won't find your feet slipping from under you during the swing - but they're more suited to dryer course conditions typically found in the summer.

Performance Arc SL comes in at a very attractive price point with very little sacrifice. They may not quite have the stability or shelf appeal of the Pro/SL, but they’re ideal for golfers who want a simple, stylish pair of spikeless shoes that don’t break the bank. They’ll come into their own in the summer months, when you’re most likely to play more, and can easily be worn on the way to and from the course as well as on it.

Over the course of the season and in varying terrain, these shoes should remain extremely comfortable. There’s a hint of stability on offer and the fit really helps in boosting the comfort and use of the ground during the swing.

FootJoy’s Pro/SL took the shoe market by storm in 2017, offering stability in a stylish spikeless package that the Tour players loved.

In 2018, FootJoy claim stability levels have been taken to even loftier heights in the form of the new Tour S shoe.

It boasts even wider cleat positioning than the D.N.A. Helix to maximize ground force, something that is key for creating power with control during the swing, along with a new outsole construction and additional elements that make Tour S FJ’s most stable shoe to date.

Its design is reminiscent of XPS-1 in places, an underrated shoe from 2005 that sadly got somewhat lost in the lightweight shoe revolution. Tour S offers the same type of performance as XPS-1, but to a greater degree and in a much lighter weight.

The comfort elements, like the dual-density fit bed, soft foam collar around the ankle and EVA tongue on top also help keep the foot locked in place.

FJ are calling the areas that house the cleats Launch Pods and although some of them are visible looking down, they’re made of a translucent TPU to minimise distraction.

Tour S is also one of FJ’s most premium shoes but it looks like no expense has been spared in its design and we think you’ll agree it has the style to match. 

The main part of the outsole is made from Pebax, which is lighter than traditional TPU and often used in football boots. A carbon fibre piece in the centre of the outsole provides stability in a lighter way than the traditional metal shank.

The Power Strap on the upper helps to keep your foot in place inside the shoe. New PPL Leather from Pittards doesn’t require a membrane to be waterproof, so is much lighter as a result.

FootJoy’s Jeremy Baldwin answers our questions about it’s key shoe for 2018

Describe the premise of Tour S? All the components on the outsole and some on the upper to are designed for stability – it’s the most stable shoe we’ve ever made. Compared with DNA Helix the cleat placement is wider. XPS was a great stable shoe but it was a touch heavy so we’ve made Tour S much lighter.

Who would benefit from a more stable shoe? Someone who moves their lower body around a lot during their swing or generates a lot of clubhead speed would benefit most from this type of shoe.

How has the premium price point been justified? The stability, comfort and attention to detail. The foam in the collar provides comfortable, customized fit. There’s also a dual density fit bed that provides comfort and perimeter stability, as well as a raised section under the heel that stops the foot moving around, as does the tongue which is made of a different material. We’ve also used our most premium PPL waterproof leather from Pittards.

FootJoy Tour S Shoe Review

A golf shoe that’s stable is often talked about as a good thing and in the Tour S, stability has been the main focus. You can read more about the technology here.

XPS-1 was a great performing shoe that was albeit a touch heavy and Tour S does remind you of this in part when you look at it.

Slide them on to your feet, however, and the sensation is very different. Yes, the stability is there from the wide cleat positioning and more rigid outsole material, but there also a lot of comfort too.

In fact, out of the box they feel fantastic on your feet – soft, lightweight and with premium, modern styling that will appeal to nearly all tastes.

The Launch Pods that stick out from the side will catch your eye but FJ designers have been clever here, making them out of a green, translucent TPU material. This significantly minimises their visual impact to the point where you don’t really notice them, although on some colourways they’re more noticeable than others.

These shoes unquestionably give you a solid base from which to swing. Not every type of player is going to enjoy or benefit from being locked in place in this manner, but the majority will experience an enhanced feeling of connection with the ground that should increase overall control during the swing.

The attention to detail, like the soft, tacky EVA tongue, special fit bed and Power Strap, all combined together to ensure your feet stay where they should be inside the shoe, which providing you’ve got the right size, will maximise power and increase their lifespan.

It’s unlikely you’ll hit your drives 10 yards longer than before should you lace a pair of these up but you’re giving yourself the best chance of hitting good shots more often.

FootJoy has unveiled two new gloves for 2018 in the form of the ProFLX and ContourFLX models.

The ProFLX replaces the popular SciFlex model and it is made from a new Traction LT leather to enhance grip while offering a soft, lightweight feel.

It also boasts special MicroVents, comprising multiple sizes and designs of perforation in the leather in key areas, to maximise breathability.

The ProFLX also features a redesigned PowerNet to create a more tailored, comfortable fit. It will have an RRP of £17.50 and is available in three colours.

The ContourFLX provides golfers with a more classic, clean-looking glove that delivers a custom-fit and soft feel thanks to the new CabrettaSof leather.

This new leather features on the palm for a soft feel and grip and is combined with synthetic FiberSof material and mesh sections on the back for durability and a more comfortable fit.

Like the ProFLX, the CountourFLX is a light and breathable product to ensure that performance is maintained, whatever the temperature. It comes in just the one colour and has an RRP of £15.50.

The final addition to the FJ glove line for the 2018 is an updated WeatherSof, FJ's best-selling glove model.

Designed for grip and durability in all weathers, it features a redesigned power net across the knuckles for added flexibility. It has an RRP of £10.

How we tested

We took the jacket to St Ives Golf Club and played 18 holes on what was thankfully a wet a blustery day.

Styling

A tasteful combination of block colours creates a trendy, contemporary look. The logo down one of the arms is large and noticeable, but we actually quite like it.

Fit/comfort

A new elasticated waistband helps create a more tailored fit while the thin, soft material makes it feel more like a wind top than a waterproof, but with the protection you need when caught in a shower.

The LTS is comfortably the best waterproof jacket FootJoy has ever created. Previous versions did the job, but were bulky, loud and coarse to the touch. The LTS improves significantly in all these areas.

It’s instantly soft when you slide your arms in and much thinner and lighter than previous jackets, helping you swing more freely. This is ably assisted by the stretchy quality of the material, allowing you to move your body without impairment.

Attention to detail has gone up greatly too, with the specially shaped collar to stop distractions, Velcro cuffs and elasticated waist all contributing to a customized fit that reduces swing interference. There's also a scorecard pocket on the chest which could come in handy.

Styling

The FootJoy spring/summer 2017 apparel range will definitely appeal to the fashion-conscious golfer. The polos and mid-layers are defined by light, pastel colours and subtle accents, while the outer layers and trousers sport a modern, refined look. The visual appeal is wide - we can see a wide range of ages being catered for in this department.

Fit

All the garments fitted well without being at all constricting in the golf swing. The mid-layers provide ample stretch and even the DryJoys Tour XP rain jacket offers good freedom of movement. It could have been a bit softer to touch and was bulky in places, but it certainly did the job of keeping water out.

Comfort

FootJoy has clearly placed an emphasis on soft, stretchy fabrics that both maximise comfort and regulate temperature. The pullover mid-layer was so light and supple you barely noticed you were wearing it and extremely flexible.

Performance

Advanced fabrics provide a soft feel and a snug fit, but still allow you to swing at full capacity. The garments are light, there’s good waterproof protection on offer and even when you’re wearing three layers you won’t feel your body temperature rise excessively. The thing that stood out most is comfort. Regardless of the number of layers you wear, they feel comfortable to walk and play golf in to the point that you don't notice them.

Aimed at The D.N.A. Helix is for golfers who want a light, cleated shoe but require more support.

Key technology The product of tour feedback, D.N.A. Helix has more stability, especially in the heel area, via a new outsole design. This features a broader heel platform to increase the overall surface area and allow a wider spread of cleats for maximum grip. As such, D.N.A. Helix is 38 per cent more structured than D.N.A. 2.0, as tested on the BodiTrak pressure mapping system.

How we tested Since picking up the shoes in July, we’ve worn them multiple times on different tracks in varying weather conditions.

Styling The look manages to combine athletic and sporty with a hint of traditional, thanks to the premium leather. Those who find the red and blue a little too garish can opt for the more subtle black colourway.

Performance With D.N.A. Helix your heel feels more secure within the shoe, creating a more solid connection with the ground and therefore a more stable and powerful platform to hit from.

While Pro/SL is an excellent, stable offering in the spikeless category, the D.N.A. Helix offers extra grip and structure while also remaining lightweight and comfortable, meaning it could well become FJ’s top model in 2017 and beyond.

It looks fantastic – modern and athletic without any Marmite details – and boasts that premium feel as soon as you take it out of the box.

The new little details make a big difference, too. The thick foam collar locks the ankle in place but does it in a comfortable way. Added comfort also comes via the thicker, more padded tongue design.

In celebration of Jimmy Walker’s 2016 PGA Championship win, FootJoy has released of a Limited Edition run of Jimmy Walker Black HyperFlex II golf shoes. Inspired by Jimmy’s preference to wear all black head-to-toe in competition, the footwear team developed a special ‘blacked out’ version of the shoe look specifically for Jimmy.
