Cleveland Golf has released a new wedge version designed with grooves across the entirety of the face, providing a cleaner contact with better control.

The wedge designers claim that the new RTX Full-Face wedge will help to improve a player's short game versatility by bringing full-face grooves to the flagship RTX ZipCore model.

The RTX Full-Face wedge is said to allow for more consistent shots with more impacts on the sweetspot, due to the boosted High-Low MOI offering better stability on the wedge face.

Comprised of a low-density core in what Cleveland have dubbed ZipCore, the RTX Full-Face also shifts the centre of gravity to improve the consistency of each shot as well as providing a more solid feel.

The club features a High-Toe profile for golfers that like to open the face around the green, while Cleveland's UltiZip grooves technology ensures the entirety of the clubface is covered for optimal spin performance.

Designed closer together, UltiZip grooves are also sharper and deeper to create more groove contact for every shot.

Cleveland Golf has also taken the durability of the club into consideration, featuring a new heat treatment process that is claimed to preserve the lifespan of the grooves.

"The new RTX Full-Face maintains the traditional and striking clean look that golfers have come to expect from a Cleveland wedge, all while adding shot-making creativity with grooves across the entire face,” said Joe Miller, Product Expert at Cleveland Golf Europe.

“It’s the perfect complement to the classic RTX ZipCore and delivers exceptional versatility around the greens.”

The new wedge is available in the UK and Ireland from June 11, with an RRP of £139 in a Tour Satin Finish, or £159 in a RAW finish.

The Tour Satin club is available in 50-64°, while the RAW club is available in 56-64°.

You won’t be surprised to learn that ‘full face’ means that the entire hitting area features Cleveland’s Zip Grooves to give you better performance right across its Rotex milled face. Cleveland Golf has unveiled two new HB SOFT putter ranges, both of which are designed to optimise distance control across the entire face thanks to the company’s proprietary Speed Optimised Face Technology (SOFT).

As well as the new Huntington Beach SOFT Premier, Cleveland has launched a raft of new Huntington Beach SOFT models to add to their already impressive line-up that includes the expanded Frontline range.

Building on the foundation previously established by their unique face designs, the Huntington Beach SOFT Premier putters feature more condensed milling on the centre of the face, while towards the heel and toe the milling frequency decreases.

This unique diamond CNC milling, which is specific for each model, will give golfers the ability to better control distance on the greens no matter the strike location.

Additionally, the range comes with two different grip options to cater for different stroke types. For those with an arcing stroke that opens on the way back and closes on the way through, the Lamkin Sinkfit Pistol grip, in conjunction with the toe-down weighting option in the head choice, will help manage clubhead rotation.

For those with a more straight back and through motion, the larger Lamkin Sinkfit Pistol grip and face-balanced head will be more suitable.

Finally, every putter from the Huntington Beach SOFT Premier range comes in a premium grey satin PVD finish that is sure to give players extra confidence when lining up putts.

Cleveland Golf, a brand known for making some of the best wedges on the market, has announced the launch of its brand new CBX Full-Face wedge, adding to its impressive line-up that features the more forgiving CBX2 and tour-played RTX ZipCore.

Built with grooves across the entire face rather than the traditional design which leaves a space on the toe, the CBX Full-Face will offer golfers extra versatility around the greens as well as more forgiveness on off-centre strikes.

Now that the Rotex Milling, Laser Milling and Tour Zip Grooves cover every millimetre of the clubface, players can enjoy maximum spin no matter the strike point.

Additionally, the club has been designed with a high toe and a low C-shaped sole, both of which will give players more control of the face and extra confidence to slide the wedge under the ball, even from tight lies.

Cleveland is set to launch its new RTX ZipCore wedge, replacing the RTX 4, claiming to offer improved spin control and forgiveness

The RTX is Cleveland’s tour-driven wedge family, designed for better players seeking feel, versatility and spin control in a traditional look and the brand claims its new RTX ZipCore wedge improves performance in all these areas to help golfers score better.

The foundation of the RTX ZipCore wedge, which replaces RTX 4, is a unique core at the heart of the muscleback design that is four times lower density than the steel head it lies within. This frees up 10-15g of weight, along with the shape of the head, to make the sweetspot better aligned with impact location by shifting the centre of gravity away from the hosel.

This innovation also boosts high-low MOI for more stability on high and low strikes on the face, essentially increasing the size of the sweetspot for more consistent spin, distance and feel on every shot.

The wedge also benefits from Cleveland’s new UltiZip grooves, which compared to previous generation RTX wedges are 11 per cent sharper and 7.3 per cent deeper, while also being 7.4 per cent closer together for more groove contact area.

This has allowed Cleveland to add two more grooves to the wedge to channel away more debris and ensure that the RTX ZipCore generates increased spin more consistently in any conditions.

To preserve the lifespan of the grooves themselves, they also feature a new heat treatment to boost durability and maintain spin performance round after round.

To maximize versatility, the RTX ZipCore wedge will come in three sole grinds in a variety of lofts. The Mid sole grind is offered in 46-60°, the Full sole grind is offered in 54-60° while the Low sole grind is offered in 56-62°.

The Cleveland RTX ZipCore wedge will be on sale from September with an RRP of £139 in the Tour Satin and Black Satin finishes and £159 in the Tour Rack (Raw) finish. Additional finishes will be coming later this year. The True Temper Dynamic Gold Spinner Tour Issue shaft and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip come as standard.

Confidence inspiring

At address, the larger profile inspires confidence, especially on full shots, without looking chunky. The clubhead feels very stable at impact, controlling both direction and distance consistency admirably on slightly mis-struck full shots. The wide sole design increases forgiveness on the strike and is especially helpful from the sand, allowing the club to glide rather than dig downwards with minimal interference.

If you lack confidence on pitch and chip shots, the Cleveland CBX2 wedges could be a game-changer. With increased forgiveness, we feel they give you the belief you need to make a positive, aggressive strike.

This driver features a stepped crown, which allows weight to be positioned more optimally. But when the edge of the dropped section is used for alignment, it encourages the clubface to sit a touch closed, helping golfers reduce their slice. Golfers accustomed to a neutral ball flight off the tee will enjoy being able to send balls out to right and watch them sail back to the centre of the fairway, provided a relatively centred strike was achieved.

Get the right loft and shaft flex in your hands and this driver will produce good carry distance, competitive with the premium brands. The loud sound off the face perhaps won’t be to everyone’s taste, but the overall performance certainly will. It launches high, helping those with slower swing speeds keep the ball in the air for longer, while the relatively low spin ensures distance isn’t compromised.

Key technology - A Turbocharged Cup Face stretches along the crown and sole and has a unique variable thickness pattern that delivers more speed across the entire face. - The redesigned HiBore Crown features a prominent step that lowers the CG, while the Ultralight Hosel removes undesirable mass. - A new Miyazaki C. Kua shaft pulls weight from the length of the shaft and repositions it on the grip end, making it feel easier to swing quickly.

GM Review Cleveland impressed us last year with the Launcher HB driver. It offered simple (non-adjustable), no-nonsense distance with a strong, draw biased shape. That trend has continued with this new model and while there has been a £30 price increase, there is extra performance to justify it.

The Launcher HB Turbo looks faster thanks to the raised ridges at the rear of the crown. It has quite a stretched out look from front-to-back and is generally busy on top. The line where the crown drops down a level encourages a closed face when used for alignment, which will help slicers, and we think the matte finish makes the head look more premium.

Out of the middle, this driver can compete with the major players in the category. It gave us ball speeds in excess of 156 mph, nearly 2 mph quicker than with the previous model.

It launched a little lower, but with spin remaining low at around 2300 rpm the carry distance increased, admittedly by under a handful of yards, but the lower, more optimum flight meant we got even more total yardage.

It feels fast and stable at impact but does come with a loud, high-pitched sound that we didn’t overly care for. That said, direction seemed simple to control as we could rely on the draw-biased head to return the ball back to our target, although it did overdo it at times. Off-centre hits held their line well while also maintaining good distance.

Supposedly superseding the impressive Launcher HB range from Cleveland Golf is the Launcher HB Turbo line, said to offer even more distance and forgiveness at a similarly modest price point.

The Launcher HB Turbo driver features a Turbocharged Cup Face, which offers a unique variable thickness pattern that delivers more speed across the entire face. It stretches along the crown and sole, flexing at impact and reflecting that energy back into the ball for increased ball speeds at impact.

The redesigned HiBore Crown features a prominent step that lowers the centre of gravity (CG), while the Ultralight Hosel is even lighter to remove mass from a poor position.

All of these weight savings culminate in the Deep Weighting sole pad. The result is a CG that’s 4.4mm deeper and 2.2 mm lower, increasing launch at impact and maximizing distance off the tee while also increasing MOI (resistance to twist).

The Launcher HB Turbo driver also comes as standard with the new Miyazaki C. Kua shaft, which pulls weight from the length of the shaft and repositions it on the grip end. This makes the shaft feel incredibly easy to swing and allows for extra mass in the club head for increased momentum and more speed.

“The Launcher HB Turbo is engineered to help you hit long, straight drives,” said Jeff Brunski, Vice President of Research and Development at Cleveland Golf. “We’ve squeezed discretionary weight out of every corner of the clubhead in order to produce one of the most forgiving drivers we’ve ever made. We’ve paired it with a high-balance point shaft that’s easier to swing fast.”

The same speed-enhancing technologies that define the Launcher HB Turbo Driver are featured within the Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Woods (above), delivering more speed and distance off the tee or when going for the green in two.

The Launcher HB Turbo driver is available in two different models: standard (9°, 10.5°, 12°) and Draw (10.5°) with an RRP of £309. The Launcher HB Turbo fairway woods feature a 3-wood (15°) and 5-wood (18°) at an RRP of £199 each.

Joining the woods are Launcher HB Turbo irons, comprising a fully hollow construction along with internal stabilizing ribs to provide maximum forgiveness.

Each iron head within the set features a turbocharged, high strength steel face that is thinner and hotter for increased ball speeds and distance.

A redesigned HiBore Crown features low, deep weighting to produce an easy to hit, high ball flight while progressive shaping provides a smooth transition from hybrid-like long irons to iron-like short irons.

The Launcher HB Turbo Irons have an RRP of £499 for a 6-PW steel set, any individual steel irons are priced at £99. For graphite shafts, the Launcher HB Turbo Irons are £599 SRP for a 6-PW set and £120 individually.

Cleveland Golf has unveiled two new putter ranges, each with unique design features said to improve forward roll, forgiveness and consistency.

The Frontline putter range features a radical new weighting system with the centre of gravity (CG) brought forward towards the face via Tungsten Forward Weighting, which places two Metal Injection Molded (MIM) tungsten weights in the face of the putter, either side of an insert.

This is said to provide better stability through impact for straighter, more accurate putts.

The Frontline putters also feature Cleveland’s Speed Optimized Face Technology (SOFT), which normalizes ball speed across the face for consistent distance performance on every putt.

Every model in the Frontline range features an individualized face milling pattern to help mitigate speed and distance loss, especially on off-centre strikes.

Frontline offers three different mallet options that include Cleveland’s 2135 Technology to help with proper alignment when over the ball. A Lamkin SINKFit Pistol Frontline grip comes as standard.

In each of the four head shapes there are two different hosel types to help provide a superior fit: single bend and slant neck. The single bend option is ideal for straight stroke types, while the slant neck option fits best for golfers with a slight arc stroke.

Frontline hits the shelves on the 13^th September 2019 in 34" or 35" shaft length options with an RRP of £149.

The second new putter range from Cleveland is the Huntingdon Beach (HB) SOFT.

The hallmark of the new Huntington Beach SOFT putters is the same Speed Optimized Face Technology (SOFT) that features on Frontline, helping to normalize ball speed across the face of the putter no matter where you strike your putt for consistent speed and distance.

The Huntington Beach SOFT putters utilize a gradual face-milling pattern on higher MOI models, while using a more rapid milling variation on lower MOI models.

They also feature a coarse, diamond-shaped milling pattern to soften the feel at impact while increasing friction for a more consistent roll. Each one is crafted from soft 304 Stainless Steel, delivering a better feel and more confidence on the green.

There are six head shapes available to suit any golfer’s stroke and style. They also go on sale Sept 13th with an RRP of £109.

The CBX 2 features a new Hollow-Cavity design with a hollow chamber towards the heel and a heavy weight strategically placed in the toe. This is to help maximise MOI to greatly improve forgiveness.

The new model also has Cleveland's fourth generation Rotex Face Technology which delivers incredibly sharp yet legal grooves to enhance spin. Additionally, the CBX 2 has been aggressively milled between the grooves to increase friction and maximise spin.

Finally, a Gelback TPU insert combines with Cleveland's Face Balancing Technology to greatly reduce vibration and enhance feel, which is vital in short-game play.

“The short game is critical to playing your best golf, and playing wedges designed for the shots you like to hit is key,” said Brian Schielke, Marketing Director at Cleveland Golf.

Cleveland has unveiled its new wedge design, aimed at the better player. Where the CBX model is aimed at the average golfer that plays cavity back irons, the new RTX 4 is for competent players looking for feel, versatility and spin control.

Much of the focus of improvement over RTX-3 is around spin, especially from the rough. It comes from the fourth generation of Cleveland’s Rotex Face, on which the Tour Zip grooves are now sharper and the face milling has been made even more aggressive. The result is more spin on a consistent basis to give you more predictable levels of control into greens.

Versatility has also been a strong consideration, with a new XLow Grind being added, bringing the number of sole shapes available across the range up to four, joining the Full, Mid and Low soles. This ensures that whatever your technique or the conditions you play in, there will be a design suitable for the shot you face, no matter how tricky.

The amount of bounce through the loft range has been reduced and Cleveland has done away with the high bounce three dot option so that the wedges are more versatile on open-faced shots good players like to play.

Down at address, you may notice RTX 4’s more compact blade shape with less offset. This is a direct result of tour testing and feedback. It’s progressive too – the lower lofts are more compact with a straighter leading edge to blend in with your short irons, while the higher lofts have a more traditional wedge shape for pitch and chip shots around the green.

You can also see a new muscle shaping on the back of each loft and a thicker high toe section. This progressively adjusts the centre of gravity, making it easier to control your trajectory. The CG is also more centred, something Cleveland call Feel Balancing technology, positioned in its most ideal location for enhanced feel and reliable distance control, even when you don’t strike the centre of the face.

The RTX-4 wedge comes in Tour Satin, Black Satin and Tour Raw finishes in a loft range of 46-64° and Dynamic Gold S400 shafts. The RRP is £129 and they go on sale Sept 14th.

Cleveland RTX 4 Wedge Review

We were suitably impressed with the level of performance we got from the Cleveland RTX-3 wedge at such a modest price point but the design has supposedly improved even further on RTX 4. You can read all about the new technology here.

On first inspection, RTX 4 hasn’t changed all too much. It still has that muscleback design but has an extra cut out section at the back of the sole. The loft and bounce number have moved further away from the leading edge and the model name/number is marginally larger.

Down at address, better players will enjoy the compact shape and lack of offset. The leading edge is squarer in the lower lofts, but we feel Cleveland perhaps could have gone a little further with this to make it more iron like. Compared to the CBX it has a noticeably smaller profile and narrower sole, as you can see below.

The technology on the face is clearly visible – there are lines literally all over the place – but they aren't at all distracting at address.

Nip a few chips away and you’re greeted with a fairly soft, solid feel. The difference in feel between RTX 4 and competitor models is fairly negligible although those with the most sensitive of hands and ears could make a case for the RTX 4 not feeling quite as soft as others, especially those that are forged.

You get more feedback on mishit shots than you do with the CBX, which is certainly more stable. Strike the ball cleanly though and you’re rewarded with a low, consistent flight that skips and then checks up sharply on the second bounce.

While the new XLow Grind is a nice option to have, it’s use will be fairly limited. It comes into its own on very tight, firm conditions you usually only experience on links courses – although more and more of us will be encountering these types of lies given the recent spout of dry weather.

This very low bounce grind help get the club under the ball more easily, even when it is sitting down slightly or when opening the face, but lacks forgiveness through the turf given its tendency to dig, making it difficult to execute bunker shots with it.

Thankfully, golfers have the option of the added bounce on the full sole in the higher lofts if you tend to use your highest lofted wedge from sand more than other shots around the green or if you want more forgiveness on the strike.

Spin levels from the rough look to have improved. While it’s difficult to prove with any certainty, a short test conducted in our review video showed it spun from the rough than a current model from another leading manufacturer and over a wide spectrum of shots from on-course testing, we can comfortably say it spun as much from the rough as other leading wedge models.

Cleveland has unveiled its six new flat-stick models that focus on alignment and speed control technologies - the Cleveland TFi 2135 Satin putters.

The new models, four of which you can see below, feature a satin finish with a high-contrast alignment line to make aiming the heads accurately much easier.

You'll also find a customised Speed Optimised Milling pattern on each of the six head shapes that helps putts roll to the same distance regardless of where they're struck on the face. Each head shape's milling pattern is customised as MOI differences mean they each needs a different ball speed correction.

The technology in the new Cleveland TFi 2135 Satin putters explained

Cleveland Director of Research, Jeff Brunski, told GM: "Traditional putters come up short when you hit the ball even just a bit toward the heel or toe. So we lowered ball speed on centre strikes and added ball speed on off-centre strikes to produce uniform distance no matter where you strike the ball.

“The exact magnitude of these changes varies slightly based on the shape and weighting of the putter model. So we’ve actually produced a different face for every model within the family to make sure each one provides perfect distance control.”

As with previous Cleveland 2135 putter families, the sightlines are raised 21.35mm off the ground — the exact radius of a golf ball — for more accurate alignment regardless of your address position. Cleveland says the new 50 per cent higher contrast sightlines make this process even easier.

The putters also have a multi-material head construction using a Polymer TPU face insert to dampen vibrations to enhance feel. Paired with a milling that’s three times deeper than previous models, Cleveland says you'll find exceptionally soft feel and feedback.

The new Cleveland TFi 213 Satin putters are available to purchase from February 2^nd 2018.

There will be two blades, the 1.0 (£119) and 8.0 Counter Balanced (£139). There will also be four mallets, the Rho, Cero and Elevado (£139), and the Elevado Counter Balanced (£149).

Looks

The HiBore step on the crown, with a straight middle but curved edges, is a lighter colour than the dark grey crown, helping align the relatively flat clubface. It sits a little closed at address too, to help the majority of golfers that miss fairways to the right.

Ball Flight

A high but relatively powerful ball flight thanks to the mid-to-low spin that is possible to create that also turns over gently from right-to-left thanks to the draw bias in the head.

Performance

For golfers that just want to grip it and rip it without having to worry about tweaking lofts, lie angles or weights, the Launcher HB driver is ideal. We experienced some excellent performance in just the standard stiff 9˚ model, achieving average carry distance only a few yards shot of drivers that are nearly double the price.

The shaft is long at 45.5”, which will help with clubhead speed but could reduce control initially. The feel is firm but springy, with a loud, high-pitched sound letting everyone know a ball has been hit hard.

A Dual-V Sole Grind and progressively wider sole from heel to toe aids forgiveness through the turf and on bunker shots turf. How we tested We took the 56˚ model to our local short game practice area, hitting a variety of lengths of shot from different lies using premium balls to assess control, flight and feel.

Looks The CBX will be larger than most wedges on the market but still has an appealing profile that isn’t too round or has too much offset - inspiring confidence without looking chunky.

Feel/Sound This wedge feels solid and stable from a large area on the face and is surprisingly soft for this type of design. It doesn’t sound especially ‘clicky’ and while it’s not quite as soft as a forged or muscleback wedge, it’s not far off at all.

Versatility The wide sole makes the CBX wedge ideal for diggers who hit down a lot on the ball while the narrower heel section allows the clubface to be opened up for more high-tariff shots if the situation demands.

Performance It’s often said that wedges that make up part of a cavity back iron set lack any real versatility. The CBX is very different. Plenty of thought has gone into its design to help golfers hit a variety of shots while the lighter swing weight makes the transition from your pitching wedge more seamless. The level of control is up there with any wedge I’ve tested and the wide sole and V-shape design in both directions makes them almost unduffable.

I’d prefer a little less bounce (only one bounce option is available) and the flight on full shots was a touch high, but for the majority of golfers, the sole shaping will work well on both full shots, pitches and chips. The progressive profile, moving from more iron like in the low lofts to more rounded in the higher lofts, will increase confidence.

Cleveland Golf had a brief spell focusing on the short game with its RTX-3 wedges and TFI 2135 putters, but now the brand is back in the long game department with the relaunch of the Cleveland Launcher range.

Cleveland has a long-standing heritage in woods and irons dating back to 1979. They were the first company to produce a 460cc driver and have produced many ground-breaking designs, like the Hi-Bore driver and VAS irons.

The new Launcher range is designed to help avid golfers who prioritise distance and forgiveness without wanting to dial in their specs to the nth degree and it does that through a host of new technologies and innovations.

Brian Schielke, Marketing Director at Cleveland Golf, explained why the company’s woods and irons are back: “When we looked into the woods and irons markets we saw a major disconnect. Prices are increasing dramatically while golfers aren’t seeing any significant performance gains. So we set out to create a range of products with true performance benefits that are obvious the moment a golfer swings one of these clubs and will show up on a launch monitor.”

Launcher CBX irons

The Launcher CBX Irons combine all of Cleveland’s proven CBX wedge spin technologies in a forgiving cavity back design.

The irons are progressive in shape, becoming larger and easier to hit as the irons in the set get longer thanks to the Launcher Cup Face (4-7-irons), while the shorter irons are built more for precision.

The V shaped sole, which assists with turf interaction and forgiveness, is also progressive, becoming more prominent on the higher lofts.

Feel Balancing Technology positions the centre of gravity more towards the centre of the clubface for improved feel, forgiveness and distance consistency.

Tour Zip Grooves and Laser Milling produce high levels of spin from the fairway and the rough, for improved control around the course from different lies.

The Launcher CBX irons also go on sale from September 15th. The RRPs are £570 in steel, £648 graphite and £648 in women's, all in 5-PW sets.

The fully hollow Launcher HB Irons, similar in concept to the 588 Altitude model, feature hybrid like long irons for high levels of forgiveness and easy launching and more iron-like short irons.

They use a high-strength steel face with stabilising ribs to increase ball speed and a HiBore Crown to help golfers launch the ball higher and farther than typical cavity back irons.

The Cleveland CBX wedge's key innovation is a cavity back design that blends forgiveness with short game versatility.

Launching in September, the Cleveland CBX wedge will come in left and right-handed options with men’s steel shafts and women’s graphite shafts.

It will be available in a range of lofts between 46-60°, each with the new Dual V sole grind. Both the men's steel and women’s graphite options will retail at £109 per wedge.

Key technology New Feel Balancing technology shifts the centre of gravity (CG) closer to the centre of the clubface by shortening the hosel and inserting a micro cavity to save weight. This reduces vibration to improve feel while head stability at impact increases for better forgiveness and distance control. A new V shape sole improves turf interaction while new Tour Zip Grooves have a deeper, narrower U shape with a sharp edge radius to enhance control and help prevent fliers.

Looks With its clean muscleback design, the RTX-3 wedges come in a tour satin finish and a new, highly durable black satin finish. Compared with the 588 RTX 2.0, the new RTX-3 is a little more rounded and has a narrower hitting area from heel-to-toe but two extra grooves because they are spaced more tightly.

Head Design Cleveland’s aforementioned Feel Balancing technology means there’s a shorter hosel section in this design. A more centered CG location within the head means the wedge should feel more stable and performance on mishits should improve, resulting in more consistent distance and accuracy. Improved face milling helps increase control.

Feel No question, the feel off the face is excellent; soft and with plenty of feedback on the strike location. Perhaps more impressive is the feel of these wedges through the turf. From tight lies, the V shape sole design with more leading edge bounce glides through the turf almost, even when you catch the ground slightly before the ball, creating shallow divots. This should hopefully help nervy chippers relax a little easier over the ball.

Forgiveness Preservation of control and accuracy on mishits is another big improvement of RTX-3 over its predecessor and one that is underrated. They feel more stable at impact, the strike feels crisper and as a result the carry distances were more consistent. The improvement in the side-to-side dispersion was also pleasing, enhancing the accuracy from the wedges on full shots.

Control Spin levels were very high, even on partial pitch shots and shots from the rough. From tight lies, the laser face milling and surface roughness provides ample check on the second bounce, meaning you can accelerate the clubhead more aggressively through impact with more commitment and trust that the ball will still stop where you want it to.

Versatility The grinds or sole shaping isn’t as aggressive as other wedge designs but there’s still enough heel and toe relief on the different bounce options to play most shots around the green. The mid-bounce grind is especially versatile, ideal for your most frequently used wedge loft.

Ball flight The different technologies on the face work together to grip the ball extremely well and as a result the initial launch angle and ball flight is lower than you might expect. With a lower flight comes extra control of the trajectory and a larger first bounce, something to bear that in mind.

Distance Cleveland’s wedge upgrade from 588 RTX 2.0 isn’t about hitting the ball further. You’ll find distances are more consistent in windy conditions and the amount of roll out becomes more predictable from different lies, helping you judge the ball’s journey on short game shots.

The new Cleveland Huntingdon Beach putters have been unveiled, providing a soft feel from some classic head shapes without the premium price tag

Named after the setting of Cleveland Golf’s North American headquarters, the brand-new Huntington Beach (HB) Putter Collection is set to offer golfers a soft feel on the greens without the premium price tag.

The Huntington Beach Collection is made up of three designs: 1, 4 and 6, each with a line across the head of the putter from front to back to improve alignment and add confidence when stood over the ball.

The 1 is a classic plumber’s neck blade putter, designed with a subtle curvature that portrays the softness of the putter face. The 4 features the same plumbers neck with much sharper, more aggressive angles for golfers who prefer a much more chiseled, squarer look. The largest of the three putter heads is the 6, a classic mid–mallet shape with a double bend shaft.

Three new key features have combined to make-up this classic looking range. Each putter features a Precision Milled Face for softer feel and a more consistent roll and are made from a soft 304 Stainless Steel.

The Precision Milled Faces have a coarse, diamond-shaped milling pattern four times deeper than the previous generation Cleveland Golf Classic Collection HB putters. The deeper milling pattern softens feel at impact while increasing friction with the ball for a truer, more consistent roll off the putter face.

Robot testing has led to the deeper milling pattern, reducing smash factor by 4 per cent compared to Classic Collection HB putters, which means both feel and consistency have been enhanced in Cleveland Golf’s latest offering. A lower smash factor off the face of the putter also results in a softer feel.

Cleveland Golf has worked closely with Lamkin grips to offer a classic smooth surface design with exceptional feel, comfort and feedback. For golfers looking for a wider, more contemporary grip, an oversized WinnPro X grip is also available.

On sale from mid September, the putters have an RRP of £89 each.

New Cleveland RTX-3 wedges feature a host of cutting-edge technologies that improve feel, spin and distance control from different lies

Replacing the 588 RTX 2.0 wedges comes the new Cleveland RTX-3 wedges, which feature a host of new technologies that improve feel, spin and distance control from different lies.

The first of these is something Cleveland call Feel Balancing technology, whereby the centre of gravity (CG) has been shifted closer to the centre of the wedge’s clubface by saving weight in the hosel area. By moving the CG more towards the ideal impact zone, vibration is decreased to improve feel while head stability at impact increases for better forgiveness and distance control.

Cleveland has done this by adding a micro cavity inside the hosel, saving two grams, and shortening the hosel by 10mm to save seven grams. In total, nine grams of mass has been optimally redistributed in the head for a more centered CG location, enhancing feel and reducing the head twisting at impact for tighter shot dispersion.

Cleveland’s player testing among varying skill levels revealed that on mis-hit wedge shots, most golfers miss toward the toe area of the face, so the Feel Balancing Technology should improve the performance on mis-hit wedge shots.

Another innovation we see in Cleveland RTX-3 wedges is the addition of three tour-proven grinds that feature a V shape with more leading edge bounce to help get the club head through the turf faster at impact. This promotes crisper feel and more consistent head speed for increased spin and control.

For every loft in each grind, the V sole peak is located at an ideal distance from the leading edge to optimize playability for different attack angles, short game styles and course conditions. The sole design helps maintain club head speed through impact by reducing turf interaction time and the amount of turf that contacts the face through impact.

Comparing RTX-3 to 588 RTX 2.0 showed 23 per cent better speed retention since the sole moves through the turf more quickly, meaning improved contact for better friction and more spin. The V-LG (Low bounce sole grind, above right) is designed for maximum versatility. The thinner sole is ideal for tight, firm course conditions and those with a shallow angle of attack.

The V-MG (mid bounce sole grind) is suitable for a wide range of players and turf conditions, while the V-FG (full sole grind) is a forgiving design with trailing edge relief ideal for soft, wet course conditions and those with a steep angle of attack.

On the clubface itself, three innovations combine to maximize spin with more consistency. New Tour Zip Grooves have a deeper, narrower U shape with a sharp edge radius in all lofts to enhance contact across a wide variety of conditions. The groove structure is designed to prevent fliers from the rough on full shots with lower-lofted wedges and maximize spin control and consistency from deeper greenside lies with higher-lofted wedges.

The advanced, 2-pass micro milling pattern increases friction and is directionally enhanced by loft: low lofts (46°-52°) have a straighter pattern to accommodate full shots and high lofts (54°-64°) have a more two angled pattern to match the swing path on open-face shots.

To maximize surface roughness to the conforming limit, Laser Milling technology engraves lines between the grooves for added friction and increased spin on greenside shots.

Extensive testing for RTX-3 compared to the previous-generation 588 RTX 2.0 showed it is 3.3ft more accurate on full centre face shots with a 52° wedge. It also provides 5 per cent more spin on wet full shots and 12% more spin on wet pitch shots.

The RTX-3 Blade features a new, ultra-durable Black Satin finish that is formulated to last longer than Cleveland’s previous black finishes. It also comes in tour satin finish and a tour only raw finish. They have an RRP of £99 each and will go on sale from September.

GM Verdict

We tested a 54° used 588 RTX 2.0 wedge against a new 56° RTX-3 wedge using our Foresight Sports GC2 launch monitor and while we admit this is not a direct comparison, the results were interesting. We achieved 250 rpm more spin on an 80-yard pitch shot, which was to be expected given the fresh grooves.

But what was interesting was how much tighter the dispersion was – 0.4 yards off line with the RTX-3 vs nearly 5 yards with the old wedge. The RTX-3 wedges certainly feel crisper off the face and more stable and solid overall, while offering excellent short game control around the greens from different lies.

Cleveland is famed as one of the great wedge manufacturers of recent decades. The 588 RTX 2.0 has been developed specifically for women golfers after feedback from Tour players.

When looking to improve scoring, most amateur golfers could shave shots off each round by ensuring they have the correct wedge set-up in a make and model that they feel comfortable with. “My wedges are a mixed bunch and, being fairly tall, I had them all built with extra length as suggested at an iron fitting I had previously. From 90 yards and in my results are very mixed, with shanks possible when playing pitch shots. My bunker play can be an issue; I can usually get the ball out, but my distance control is inconsistent. Around the fringe I use an 8-iron rather than a wedge if possible, as this has a safer outcome.”

“Phil had a 50° and a 56° in his bag, which related to a massive 22-yard gap. We took out the 56° and added a 54° and 58°, which halved the distance gap. “My wedges are a mixed bunch and, being fairly tall, I had them all built with extra length as suggested at an iron fitting I had previously. From 90 yards and in my results are very mixed, with shanks possible when playing pitch shots. My bunker play can be an issue; I can usually get the ball out, but my distance control is inconsistent. Around the fringe I use an 8-iron rather than a wedge if possible, as this has a safer outcome.”

As the long hitting side of golf continues to evolve, players are finding themselves facing an increasing number of shots from inside 125 yards, where Cleveland claims over 65% of all shots take place.

It is this evolution that has inspired the new Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 wedges, which replace the highly popular 588 RTX model.

The process began with feedback from the likes of Graeme McDowell and Keegan Bradley, before Cleveland addressed everyday problems amateurs face in the scoring zone.

Their conclusion identified a common need for versatility. That’s why the new Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 model features a huge variety of lofts, grinds and head shapes.

This array of options includes two heads types; a more forgiving cavity back design, and a traditional blade shape, which offers a touch more feel and workability.

Lofts options range from 46-64°, while three sole grinds will suit different swing and course types.

The Low Bounce Grind is ideal for tight lies, dry fairways and players with a shallower attack angle.

The Full Sole Grind has a consistent sole width that is useful on full shots, while maintaining versatility around the green. Its characteristics will suit players used to softer fairways and with a steeper angle of attack.

Between the two falls the Standard Bounce Grind, which performs well in a wide variety of conditions, and will suit players with a more neutral angle of attack.

The 588 RTX 2.0 also features improved Rotex face technology, with 15% sharper Tour Grip grooves and a new, deeper micro-milled pattern on the face combining to deliver the most surface roughness the USGA will legally allow. The result creates more friction with the ball at impact to impart more spin for more control from all lies.

The wedges (£99 per club) will originally be available in a Chrome finish, with a Black Satin option becoming available in Spring 2015.

Cleveland Golf has launched a new 588 Wedge Fitting app designed to help golfers find the right 588 model for their game

Cleveland Golf has announced a brand new online Wedge Fitting app for 2014 as part of its 588 wedge trade in promotion deal.

The app, which was showcased at the Scottish Golf Show in Edinburgh last month, is now live at a dedicated Cleveland Golf 588 website. It offers customization of model, loft and finish for Cleveland's 588 wedges.

With details on all loft and bounce options, along with useful hints and tips, the Cleveland Golf Wedge Fitting app gives golfers a comprehensive overview on the right combination for them.

First golfers choose between the 588 RTX Blade or CB to suit their ability or style. They then submit their current model of pitching wedge and the app recommends the level of loft and bounce that will suit their club selection and play style. This allows them to build wedges into their current iron set.

Furthermore, until 31^st July 2014, Cleveland is offering £25, or €30, off any new 588 RTX wedge when golfers trade in their old wedges.

The 588 trade in offer allows golfers to trade in up to three wedges for the discount. Last year more than 20,000 wedges were traded in across Europe and the UK.

In addition, Cleveland is offering a trade in on Cleveland Golf 588 irons. By trading in any six old golf irons of any make or condition you will receive £100, or €120, off any new set of 588 irons.

Cleveland's 588 RTX wedges utilize Rotex Face pattern technology. This aims to increase friction between club face and ball by up to 20%, improving control and spin around the greens from any lie. This is enhanced by 16% larger U-Grooves to offer maximum spin control on each wedge in the range.

Cleveland wedges are used on tour by players such as Steven Bowditch, who won the Valero Texas Open in March.

Cleveland 588 irons 2014 trade-in promotion launched

Cleveland Golf has announced a Cleveland 588 irons trade-in promotion to run alongside its 588 wedge trade-in from March 2014.

Anyone trading in any full set of irons between March 15 and July 2014 will receive £100 off a new set of Cleveland 588 irons.

The Cleveland 588 Altitude, 588 MT and 588 TT irons are offered in the promotion.

Golfers can purchase a standard set of 588 Altitude, 588 MT or 588 TT irons, or can be custom fitted for an individual or combination set using Cleveland Golf's new CG Fit Solution and Custom Fitting Cart.

Cleveland's 588 irons allow golfers to mix and match between the three lines, with a number of custom shaft and grip options available.

Similar to the Cleveland 588 wedges trade-in, the handed-in irons can be any model, make or condition, provide the set is comprised of six clubs or more (i.e. 4 iron - 9 iron or 6 iron to SW).

Cleveland Golf has re-introduced its Cleveland 588 wedges trade-in following the success of the promotion in 2013.

Last year, more than 20,000 wedges were traded in across the UK and Europe in exchange for new Cleveland 588 wedge models.

The 2014 promotion - which runs from March 15 to July 31 in the UK and Ireland -will give golfers £25 or €30 off a new Cleveland 588 RTX wedge when they trade in any wedge, regardless of make, model or condition.

The promotion is available up to a maximum of three Cleveland Golf 588 wedges at any one time.

Cleveland Golf has announced the launch of its new range of 588 woods: the Cleveland 588 Custom driver, Cleveland 588 fairway wood and Cleveland 588 hybrid.

Cleveland says the new range of 2014 woods is its longest to date, bringing the performance of the 588 brand to golfers of all levels.

The Cleveland 588 Custom driver - constructed after extensive testing and tour validation - is a customisable 460cc driver with a titanium head.

Cleveland says it offers the greatest combination of distance, forgiveness and accuracy of any driver it's ever made.

An adjustable hosel on the 588 Custom driver offers 12 different loft, lie and face settings. Loft and lie have a total range of 3 degrees, while face angle has a total range of 4.5 degrees.

The back of the sole also has an adjustable weight screw to optimise swingweight.

Varaible face thickness technology creates a penetrating flight on centre strikes and aids ball speeds on off-centre strikes for increased forgiveness.

More weight has also been positioned low in the club head, which should produce a high and boaring ball flight.

The Cleveland 588 Custom driver comes in 9- and 10.5-degree models, which both weigh in at 305 grams and come with Premium Matrix OZIK 6Q3 shafts.

The Cleveland 588 fairway wood - which the brand claims is its longest ever fairway wood - is made to combine power and forgiveness.

The 588 fairway wood has optimal face, sole and crown dimensions which promotes a confidence-inspiring look from the tee or the fairway.

As with the driver, variable face thickness technology enables sweet centre strikes and forgiving off-centre strikes. Weight has also been repositioned lower in the club head to promote a higher launch.

The Cleveland 588 fairway wood - which comes with an RRP of £159 - is available in two 3-wood models (14 and 15.5 degrees), a 5-wood (18 degrees) and a 7-wood (20.5 degrees). Cleveland 588 hybrid

The main technological innovation on the Cleveland 588 hybrid is Gliderail technology - a combination of two rails with a centre keel on the sole of the club, which decreases turf resistance for greater speed at impact.

The 588 is Cleveland's first hybrid model with variable face thickness technology, facilitating high ball speeds and forgiveness.

More weight is also positioned lower in the club for a higher launch angle.

The Cleveland 588 hybrid comes in H2 - H5 models, with lofts ranging from 18 degrees to 26 degrees.

The Cleveland 588 hybrid comes with a RRP of £129.

Key technology:

The Classic XL Custom has the largest and deepest face of any driver currently on the market. This helps to create a larger sweet spot and faster ball speeds. An adjustable hosel can be moved to 12 settings to find the optimal face angle and flight, while an interchangeable weight port allows swing weight to be optimised.

Will suit: players after plenty of adjustability, as well as a classic look at address.

After the launch of the stunning 588 Forged CB irons early in 2012, Cleveland added three new 588 irons to the 2013 line-up. All three sets have been designed to offer players of varying abilities the best possible feel. Each set provides a different flight and level of forgiveness, but all with the soft feel of the forged face.

The 588 TT (Tour Trajectory) set appeals to better players, but still offers a level of forgiveness - a small undercut cavity is designed to improve ball speed and accuracy on shots that miss the centre of the face. A plaque made from polymer and aluminium is positioned in the cavity to dampen vibrations and deliver a more consistent feel. A progressive blade length also makes the long irons easier to hit.   The second model is the 588 MT (Mid Trajectory), which features a hollow construction combined with internal weighting to improve forgiveness and lower the centre of gravity. The easy-to-hit long irons are blended with more traditional short irons. Again, a multi-material insert dampens vibrations for a more consistent feel.

Finally, the 588 Altitude is a hybrid set aimed at players looking for extreme forgiveness. The entire set is designed to be easy to hit high and long, thanks to large hollow heads and internal weighting. Each club features a bendable hosel so that lie angles can be easily adjusted. All three irons can be integrated to produce a combination set, and were available from February in 5-PW, RRP £449 (steel) and £499 (graphite).

Cleveland is looking to build on the history and heritage of the 588 range with the introduction of new 588 wedges and irons for 2013. Since the introduction of the 588 wedge in 1988, it has been used in 300 professional wins, including 26 Major championships.

The wedge line-up for 2013 will include two new designs, both featuring the classic 588 shape and an all-new face design, but with subtle differences to target two distinct golfers.

Both wedges incorporate a new Rotex face design. This has been created to maximise spin, especially on toe strikes, where impact tends to be on open-face shots. Both designs also feature U-Grooves that are 16 per cent larger than previous models, to enhance spin levels out of the rough, sand and in wet conditions.

The 588 RTX CB wedge (main picture) has been manufactured with forgiveness in mind - the undercut cavity creates perimeter weighting to help with off-centre strikes. It also features a Reverse C sole, previously seen on the CG14 and CG16 wedges, which is designed to improve performance from a wider range of lies.

As you can see, the 588 RTX (inset) is a more classic wedge and should deliver on versatility and control. As well as the Rotex face and larger grooves, the design features the S sole - wider near the heel, narrower near the toe - seen previously in the popular CG15 wedge. It's designed to improve performance out of bunkers without sacrificing versatility.

Both the 588 RTX and 588 RTX CB wedges will be available from mid February, both with an RRP of £109. The excellent 588 Forged wedge will also remain in the line-up for 2013.

sits in the middle of Cleveland's 588 iron range. Each head features a hollow construction and internal weighting to improve forgiveness and lower the centre of gravity. The long irons are designed to be easy to hit and are blended with more traditional short irons to provide better feel and control. A forged face offers a consistent feel.

Will suit: anyone looking to straighten up their iron play.

Cleveland Golf has announced a special anniversary promotion for its iconic 588 wedge.

From March 8 2013, to celebrate the 588's 25th birthday, golfers will be able to trade-in any wedge and get £25 off a new Cleveland Golf 588 RTX or forged wedge.

Cleveland Golf has unveiled its new long-game offering for 2013, comprised of the Classic XL Custom driver, the Classic XL driver, the Classic XL fairway wood and the Classic hybrid.

The Cleveland Classic XL driver is designed to deliver more distance and possesses the largest and deepest driver club face in golf.

The size of the effective hitting area, coupled with the larger sweet spot, combine to provide forgiveness and confidence.

The centre of gravity also sits deeper in the club face for a more penetrating ball flight, and enhanced variable face thickness technology helps improve forgiveness on off-centre hits.

The Classic XL Custom - Cleveland's first adjustable driver - employs similar characteristics to the regular model, but can also be modified to adapt to the needs and swings of different players.

It features an interchangeable weight port and its adjustable hosel can be moved into 12 different settings to achieve optimum face angle and flight.

The new 588 family of irons is designed to make the game more enjoyable for golfers as they can interchange between three head designs which emphasize feel, forgiveness and flight.

The differing designs are aimed towards players of specific abilities as the variations in construction aspire to appeal to golfers of all levels.

The 588 Altitude range is created with Super Game-Improvement players in mind. This hybrid-iron set adds forgiveness through its advanced internal weighting system and hollow construction. Every iron has a forged club face engineered to enhance ball speed and feel.

Golfers of all abilities will prosper with the 588 MT (Mid Trajectory) irons. The MT clubs have all the positives of the Altitude range but also offer a multi-material insert of polymer and aluminium in each iron plaque which dampens vibration at impact for a more consistent sensation.

With a more durable and advanced form of laser milling, the Rotex face now creates more friction at impact, helping golfers generate even more spin on chips, pitches and partial shots from any lie.

588 RTX wedges also feature 16% larger U-Grooves to maximise spin on critical scoring shots - especially out of the rough, sand and in wet conditions.

588 RTX CB

The 588 RTX CB wedge features a reverse C Sole design. Forged from 1025 carbon steel the 588 Forged RTG wedge offers an incredibly soft yet solid feel around the greens. Laser milling and Tour Zip Grooves also provide maximum control.

A rail design on the sole of the Mashie fairway wood is designed to aid performance from rough, tee, sand or fairway. A lightweight shaft and grip combine to increase swing speed and improve distance. The rugged, bulletproof finish on the crown gives a retro

look at address.

Will suit: Anyone seeking added distance from the fairway or another driving option.

Key technology:

Aimed at players looking for added clubhead speed and improved distance thanks to lightweight shafts and grips. The centre of gravity has been moved lower and deeper towards the back of the head to help launch the ball on a higher trajectory. The large Ti clubface is strong, but very thin. This helps to improve the distance on offer and weight can be utilised elsewhere in the head.

Will suit: players looking for added distance through the set.

Components

1) Head options - there are two options available. One has a club weight of 270 grams with a C. Kua 39 shaft for maximum head speed and the other weighs 290 grams with C. Kua 43 shaft for improved accuracy.

2) Shaft options - the stock offering here is a choice of Miyazaki C. Kua Limited Edition shafts. They are lightweight, but Cleveland's RightWeight fitting system helps to ensure you get the right head and shaft combination for your game.

Technology

3) Head design - the traditional pear-shaped profile is combined with the deepest clubface ever produced by Cleveland. This is designed to help promote a powerful and penetrating flight.

4) Face design - the thickness of the face varies from 4.3mm in the centre of the face to 2.8mm around the edges. This is designed to help increase the forgiveness and power on offer on strikes that don't find the centre of the club.

Aesthetics

5) Shelf Appeal - Graeme McDowell put the retro-looking Classic in play before it was even released, which caught the eye of many. The persimmon finish creates a unique look and will catch the eye on the shelf.

6) Address - the Trapezoidal alignment aid and the contrast between crown and face really help to aim on the intended line. The deep face and the traditional shape make the head look smaller than 460cc in size.

Performance

7) Flight - the Classic produces a powerful flight on a lower trajectory than other lightweight designs with the same loft. Lightweight offerings sometimes have a tendency to balloon, but the RightWeight system helps to prevent this.

8) Distance - the deep face allows the ball to be teed up high, which helps give the confidence to make an aggressive swing. It produces similar distances to the Cleveland Launcher lightweight offerings, but with the bonus of added control.

9) Forgiveness - the head shape suggested this wouldn't be the most forgiving, but the deep face counteracted this and the forgiveness was impressive. You can get away with catching the ball a lot higher on the face than you would expect.

10) Impact sound - this is also almost persimmon-like with a thud rather than a ping. Certainly different to most drivers on the market, but after a few hits it was reassuringly solid and by no means distracting.

The classic 558 wedge shape has been relaunched by Cleveland and will be forged for the first time with the Cleveland 588 Forged wedges. Made from 1025 carbon steel, the new offering is designed to provide a softer feel with less unwanted vibration.

Cleveland's laser-milled technology means the face of the wedge has four laser-milled lines between each groove, which are created to the maximum conforming roughness limit. This optimises the friction to maximise spin.

Cleveland 588 Forged wedges will suit golfers who like the 588 look, but also want a forged wedge.

Cleveland's classic 588 shape returns and features the classic teardrop headshape, which the majority of golfers will love. This is the first time Cleveland has produced a forged wedge. The brand has never struggled in terms of feel and most amateurs won't be able to tell the difference, but they will notice the wedge's consistent results. Brands have had a year to perfect the conforming groove design and this shows thanks to great spin on full and pitch shots.

Cleveland 588 Forged wedges launched

Six months ago Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño had serious doubts as to whether he would play golf again, but the Cleveland man was back in fine form at the weekend.

Three weeks on home soil, which included a second in the Castelló Masters and a tied 12th in the Andalucía Masters, had kick-started and at the weekend he won the Barclays Singapore Open.

"It has been a great relief, especially the way I played yesterday." said Fernandez-Castaño. "It has been a tough year and I got a monkey off my back. It has been three years without a victory and it means a lot to me."

Cleveland Golf has launched their new 588 Forged wedges that offer a series of technological breakthroughs to provide added performance benefits.

Made from 1025 carbon steel, the 588 Forged wedge offers a soft yet solid feel and less unwanted vibration.

An advanced precision forging process ensures the highest level of part-to-part manufacturing consistency for supreme confidence and trust over each shot.

The 588 Forged Wedge's Tour Zip Grooves and Laser Milled technology help maximise spin while the exclusive tour concept steel shaft promotes a more penetrating ball flight, increased spin and optimal distance control.

They will be available in chrome and satin finishes and in a variety of loft and bounce options with an RRP of £119.99.

Over 70g of weight positioned at the rear of the club head should give the T-Frame a high MOI for excellent forgiveness. The ‘T' figure acts as an alignment aid.

The design of the Cleveland T-Frame Mallet made it hard to judge long distance putts but the heavy head is good from short range.
