Released in April this year, the Bushnell Tour Hybrid has already cemented itself as one of the best golf rangefinders available. Considering it's a brand new device, and comes from the masters of rangefinder technology, Bushnell, it's certainly lit up the rangefinder market.

It's also the first Bushnell rangefinder to feature Slope compensated laser distances and Slope compensated GPS distances, and one of the many reasons it received a perfect 5 out of 5-star review.

Golf Monthly's expert tester, Dan Parker, not only gave the Bushnell Tour Hybrid that faultless review, but went as far as saying the Bushnell rangefinder might be the perfect rangefinder, allowing golfers of all levels to be armed with the information they need to play better golf.

Being new to the market and already one of the best Bushnell golf rangefinders, you wouldn't expect to see any significant discounts on the Tour Hybrid, which makes this deal we've spotted worth taking advantage of. Right now, at Amazon, you can pick up the Tour Hybrid with a $65 discount, reduced to $434.84 from $499.99, which is the cheapest price we've seen.

Get the Bushnell Tour Hybrid Rangefinder for just $434.84 at Amazon.

In his review, Dan Parker had nothing but praise for the Bushnell Tour Hybrid Rangefinder, stating this might be the perfect rangefinder, and awarding it a flawless 5 out of 5-star review. Highlights include its class-leading laser, and built-in GPS that projects front, middle and back yardages, and the Tour Hybrid's instant, out-of-the-box set-up procedure, which GPS's identifies which course you're on, making it one of the most user-friendly rangefinders on the market.

Read Dan's full Bushnell Tour Hybrid Rangefinder Review.View Deal

Bushnell says the Tour Hybrid is its first rangefinder to feature Slope compensated laser distances as well as Slope compensated GPS distances. They claim it will confidently make club selections with both lasered distances to the pin as well as GPS-powered front/center/back yardages right in the display, so no checking smartphones or needing a signal to get the information, just consistent, precise GPS and laser readings every time.

Bushnell rangefinders are used by 98.6% of PGA Tour pros, and they say its patented Slope technology and algorithm outperforms competitors by factoring in ball trajectory, and not just elevation, which means you get the most accurate "plays-as" distances from both laser and GPS, for the first time in one device.

The Tour Hybrid has a slope switch on the side of the device, which clearly shows whether it's on or off and conforms to USGA rules.Future

The Tour Hybrid viewfinder is simple, easy to understand and has all the information required to make the right club choice.Future

Dan loved the Tour Hybrid, saying, "It might just be the perfect rangefinder".Unknown

The Tour Hybrid has a BITE magnet that allows it to be conveniently stored on the side of a ride-cart or trolley.Future

In his review, Dan also loved how the built-in GPS picked up his location without any user interaction. With the Tour Hybrid, there is nothing extra you need to do, apart from switching it on, with the GPS picking up the course you're playing impressively quickly. Dan was pleased to report that during testing, it would take no more than 60 seconds for the device to find the course he was on, accurately and immediately.

The Tour Hybrid offers slope-adjusted distances, both for the laser distance and the GPS distances, which is another invaluable feature when you're not in a competition. Handily, it can be easily toggled on and off with the clearly marked slope switch on the side of the device, so you and your playing partners can clearly see there's no rule-breaking, and it conforms to USGA rules regarding rangefinders.

The Bushnell Tour Hybrid has already slotted into our Bushnell rangefinder buyers guide as the device with the best features; however, its sibling, the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift, for now holds the crown as best overall, but for how much longer?

Bushnell Tour V5 Shift Laser Rangefinder Review

In terms of technology, Bushnell's latest rangefinder has Slope-Switch Technology is easy to access via a button on the side and benefits from an improved slope algorithm for more accurate distances. A red ring now flashes as JOLT vibrates to give the golfer even greater feedback and confidence to know when they have locked onto the flag. The Bite magnetic mount allows the laser rangefinder to be secured to a golf buggy without the need for any aftermarket accessories.

Bushnell continues to lead through innovation in the laser rangefinder category with the Tour V5 Shift, which has been slimmed down to make it more compact in your hand. Its Fast Focus system returns yardages quickly, with the new flashing red ring in the display providing an extra dose of assurance that you’ve successfully locked on to the flag.

In terms of ease of use, like with the best laser rangefinders it couldn’t be simpler. Just point and shoot – the flag is picked out quickly from the background. The view in the display is crystal clear, helped by the adjustable focus toggle, and with the button on the side, there is now no cause for confusion as to how to change the settings from metres to yards.

The impressive range of 400+ yards to a flag is more than you’d ever need and it’s rainproof too, which is always handy when playing in the UK. We even tested the Tour V5 Shift on the course using a tape measure and when measuring from a point 50m and 100m away, the Bushnell V5 Shift was exactly correct. Like the best golf rangefinders with slope, with the toggle on the side you can take into account changes in elevation quickly and easily.

The Tour V5 Shift can even attach to the face of a club if you wish!

If you play a lot of golf in a buggy, Bushnell’s Bite technology incorporates a powerful inbuilt magnet so you can attach it to the buggy frame (or most other metal surfaces) for quick access and less faff when you get to your ball. With 7 pounds of pulling force, it is unlikely to fall off even when going over large bumps – it certainly hasn’t for us yet.

The new design of the fastening strap on the grey and vibrant orange carry case hasn’t gone unnoticed – meaning it fastens closed much more easily. All in all, this rangefinder provides a simple yet premium experience. You won't struggle to pick out the flag or other points of interest and the shape is much more ergonomic. You may find that budget golf rangefinders claim to offer a similar experience but it's unlikely they will offer the speed, clarity and accuracy of the Bushnell Tour V5 Shift.

The Bushnell Wingman is one of the products featured in our Editor's Choice product list.

Bushnell Wingman

A product truly unlike anything else on the market in 2020, the Bushnell Wingman truly becomes one of your buddies out on the course. It can’t sink a beer with you to celebrate you holing that birdie putt, but it can be stuck to the frame of your buggy via the magnetic Bite feature and play music from a wide variety of smartphone apps. Not only that, but it will also provide golfers with audible and accurate front, middle and back distances.

Editor's Choice 2020

Fun for all

For golfers that like to have fun out on the course during social rounds with their friends, it is an ideal piece of kit to have. The music element may not be to the taste of other golfers on the course, but we’ve found the music is loud enough for your group to hear but difficult for others further afield to pick up. The quality of the audio is exceptional, you just have to make sure you have a killer playlist ready.

To get it going is simple. Just pair the Wingman with your music source (e.g. mobile phone) and the Bushnell Golf App. Then press remote button to get audible GPS distances from your Bushnell Golf App.

You haven’t got worry about manually advancing the hole distances as the Bushnell Wingman does it automatically. It also boasts 10 hours of battery life and can even charge other devices if you need it to.

While it possibly caters more for the US market, it really appeals to anyone who tends to use a buggy and wants to enjoy music while they play to take away any tension during friendly rounds. Coming in under £150, the Bushnell Wingman GPS Speaker offers excellent value for money and may well be the best playing partner you’ve ever had!

For all the latest gear news and launches, follow Golf Monthly on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Bushnell Tour V5 Shift is one of the products featured in our Editor's Choice product list.

Bushnell Tour V5 Shift

Things have come a long way in a short space of time in the rangefinder world as golfers seek ever more trustworthy distance information before committing to a shot.

Editor's Choice 2020

Bushnell continues to innovate, and the latest Tour V5 Shift model is a really excellent piece of kit that will do pretty much everything you could ask for. Its Fast Focus system returns yardages quickly, with the new visual JOLT technology (a flashing red ring now accompanies the vibration) providing you with an extra dose of assurance that you’ve successfully locked on to the flag. It works extremely well.

If you play a lot of golf in a buggy, Bushnell’s Bite technology incorporates a powerful inbuilt magnet so you can attach it to the buggy frame (or any metal surface) for quick access and less faff when you get to your ball.

Related: Best Laser Rangefinders 2020

The range is an impressive 400+ yards to a flag and new clearer optics make everything easier to read, whatever the weather conditions. It’s rainproof too, which is always handy within these shores.

Slope as an option

The Shift version that we’ve chosen for our Editor’s Choice awards is £60 more expensive, but it also has the capability to provide slope-adjusted distances via a new algorithm that makes them even more accurate.

BUY NOW (UK): Bushnell Tour V5 Shift from Scottsdale Golf for £359

Of course, you can’t use such a feature under the Rules of Golf, but the device has a simple switch that allows you to turn slope mode on and off, so you can use it when you play in competitions as well as reaping the extra benefits in friendly games or practice rounds.

We think it’s worth paying the extra as we believe that seeing how yardages are adjusted when using the slope mode will give you a better understanding of the effect slope will have on clubbing in competition rounds when you’re only able to eyeball the terrain.

For all the latest gear news and launches, follow Golf Monthly on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

It’s easily switched off for use in competition.

BUY NOW: Bushnell Pro XE rangefinder from American Golf for £449

Bushnell’s Jolt feature delivers a vibrating burst when the flag has been detected, and a red ring that flashes as Jolt vibrates to give maximum certainty that you have locked onto the pin. The rangefinder has a 500+ yard range, 7x magnification and an enhanced ultra-bright backlight display. It is fully waterproof and comes with a new premium carry case complete with a clip for your golf bag and belt loop attachment.

Game Booster

This super-stable rangefinder will give you accurate yardages to the flag and to other points on the course, helping you to select the right club at the right time. It’s very easy to use, just point and click. The range is excellent and the magnified, backlit view through the scope is extremely clear.

BUY NOW: Bushnell Pro XE rangefinder from American Golf for £449

A little extra weight has been added to the Pro XE making it very stable, even in windier conditions, and you’ll find you can pick out pretty small targets even at relatively long distances. It’s quicker to use than a GPS unit and it allows you to be absolutely sure on distances and to pick out any target you wish.

A useful feature is a magnetic mount that allows the rangefinder to be secured to a cart or trolley. The Pro XE is ideal for golfers who want fast distances to specific points. Taking into account new factors that influence the distance the ball will travel should give you a greater chance of hitting your iron shots closer.

However, these features aren’t legal for competition use, so if you play a lot of medals and Stablefords then remember to turn them off!

Bushnell Pro X2 Laser Rangefinder Review - Our verdict on the latest cutting-edge laser from Bushnell with Slope Switch technology

Bushnell Pro X2 Laser Rangefinder Review

Aimed at The newest premium Bushnell laser is aimed at those who are happy to shell out for fast and precise accurate distances to specific points on the course.

Key technology Headlining the host of features on the Pro X2 is the innovative Slope-Switch Technology, which allows the user to easily toggle between normal and slope-adjusted distances simply by moving the Pro X2 logo on the side of the device up or down.

A rubber armoured metal housing makes the device fully waterproof, whilst it also boasts a range of up to 1,300 yards. PinSeeker with JOLT Technology provides a short, vibrating burst to isolated the target and assure you when the flag has been located from up to 450 yards away.

Dual Display Technology allows users to easily toggle between the bright red display for dim conditions or the crisp black display for brighter days.

Note* A recent change to the rules of golf allowed the use of laser rangefinders with slope capability in competitions, providing the function is disabled.

GM Review

Ease of use The extra weight of the device if anything enhances the stability in the wind, while the distances are displayed almost instantaneously. The textured surface areas make it easy to gain a firm and steady hold while employing the laser and the display makes it easy to pick out the flag.

Features The Vivid Red display makes a big difference on overcast days and the vibrating Jolt provides the piece of mind that you’re seeing the distance you want to see.

If you’re already a laser rangefinder user or are thinking about switching from a GPS device, the Pro X2 won’t disappoint. Flags are picked out from the background with a minimum of fuss but it’s also a useful companion off the tee when measuring banks of bunkers or trees beyond the fairway.

Being able to switch to slope distances with the flick of a button is a great option to have, although the button was moved a little too easily at times.

Golf Monthly's Bushnell Neo iON review, a GPS Watch with an improved battery life and up to four hazards per hole as well a host of other useful features

I was very impressed with the Bushnell Neo XS GPS watch when it came out in 2014 so testing out its replacement was always going to be interesting. The two main things I liked about the Neo XS was how slim line and lightweight it was as well as how easy it was to use out of the box.

Thankfully, neither of these highlights are lost completely on the new Bushnell Neo iON. It’s not quite as compact on the wrist as the Neo XS but it’s just as simple to get going and navigate through the various features.

The best GPS devices of 2016

The longer battery life of three rounds will please the more unorganised golfer who forgets to recharge their device after playing. Out of the box, it comes fully charged and there’s no need to sync it up to your computer – it’s ready to use and will automatically detect your course when you get to the first tee. It will automatically move holes as you do and on the odd occasion it doesn’t, one push of a button will set you right.

But the most useful feature, aside from the usual front, middle and back distances (which proved to be very accurate, by the way) is the hazard and dogleg information.

It can be difficult when solely using a GPS watch to implement the correct strategy on a hole you’ve not played before from the tee. This information (up to four hazards per hole) gives you a clearer picture in your mind of the shots required to play the hole correctly.

It is also one of the comfiest GPS watches to wear. The soft, flexible strap means you can achive a snug fit without is feeling uncomfortable or being aware of it during your swing or when walking between shots.

You can, if you wish, put it on before you tee off and not need to press another button until you finish – this fuss free use will please the majority of golfers that opt for the simplicity of a GPS watch over a laser rangefinder or handheld GPS device.

The charging clip makes restoring full power a simple task and the cherry on top is how the styling makes the watch look like an off-course digital watch, albeit a cheap one.

NEXT: Bushnell Tour V4 JOLT Laser Rangefinder review

Golf Monthly's Bushnell Tour V4 laser rangefinder review, the replacement of the popular Tour V3 which now has an extended range, faster focus and quicker distance display

The Bushnell Tour V4 JOLT laser is the long-awaited replacement to the popular Tour V3 JOLT model, a favoured choice among amateur golfers up and down the country.

The new Tour V4 is 30 per cent smaller and lighter, making it fit perfectly in your hands and even your pocket. It also has a new Fast Focus system that allows you to adjust the focus with the same finger you use to fire the laser.

A change in the Rules of Golf, specifically rule 14-3 regarding artificial devices that came into effect from January 1st 2016, means that slope lasers can now be used in competitions providing the function is disabled and there is a local rule in place allowing distance measuring devices (which most golf clubs in the UK have).

This means that golfers will be more encouraged to buy the Slope version of the Tour V4 JOLT (£315), distinguished by its red trim on the front of the unit, knowing they can disable the feature and use it legally in competitions. This is ideal for golfers that play lots of different courses, lots of competitive rounds that involve practice rounds, or hilly golf courses.

While the Tour V4 is certainly more compact, the 'Stabi-Grip' rough surfaces around the points at which it is in contact with your hand mean you don’t lose out on stability. It can be a little time consuming to turn the slope function on and off (it took us a few goes to master it) and the focus toggle is a little too stiff for our liking, but other than that the Tour V4 improves upon the Tour V3 and is certainly useable with just one finger.

Increasing the range of the JOLT feature will please lower handicappers that hit the ball a long way and want to know the exact distance to pins on approaches to par fives. I even managed to pick out a flag that was 390 yards away, very impressive!

As always, Bushnell hasn’t scrimped on the carry case, which has a premium look to it and clips easily to the bag to allow swift access. The battery meter is another reassuring feature, keeping you updated on when you need to buy a replacement.

The best laser rangefinders

However, with the new R&A and USGA rule change, we were able to introduce the ability for golfers to turn the slope mode off as required, which we expect to open the product’s appeal out to a much wider audience.”

Bushnell Tour V4 laser rangefinder details

The Bushnell Tour V4 lasers will be available from June, with an RRP £269 for the Tour V4 and £309 for the Tour V4 Slope.

Golf Monthly's Bushnell Neo Ghost review, a pocket-sized, lightweight GPS device that provides hazard and approach distances at an affordable price

Key technology This pocket-sized GPS comes preloaded with over 33,000 courses, with no fees to pay after your purchase. It provides yardages to the front, middle and back of the green, and reveals up to four hazards per hole.

Other features include auto course recognition, auto hole advance, and a shot measuring function. It’s USB rechargeable battery will last for three full rounds, while the unit itself can be kept in your pocket, or placed on your bag using the multi-function clip.

GM ReviewOut of the box, the Neo Ghost is ready to go. Value for money is the device’s greatest asset, offering lay-up distances and shot measurement as well as your usual distances for under £100 with no annual fees.

Its compact size will suit many golfers who find watches too distracting and laser rangefinders too time consuming while the battery life is extremely impressive, going four rounds comfortably in GPS mode.

The clip, while looking a little flimsy, works well to attach it to your bag so distances can be read at a glance. A massive 20 contrast modes ensure the display is easily readable. While some people may want more detail, four hazards and three green yardages should cover everything the club golfer could ever need.

Jolt Technology gives you confirmation you have picked out the flag from the background. Its range reaches an impressive 1,300 yards, or 450 yards to a flag, with half-yards within 125 yards.

GM Review Having the option of also getting slope- adjusted yardages from a tournament-legal laser makes this a real niche product. It means you can now find out true yardages on deceptive par 3s during practice rounds, before swapping faceplates and playing legally in competitions.

Bushnell Tour X vs Bushnell Tour V3 laser rangefinders

The ability to flick between red and black crosshairs using the simple-to-operate Dual Display button makes a real difference when going from sky to a tree-lined background, or when conditions are overcast. The new ‘thumb space’ on the bottom makes this the most ergonomically designed Bushnell to date.

Bushnell has once again pushed the envelope with its faceplate technology. The slope-adjusted option provides great insight into how much hills and slopes affect the distance your shots travel without you also having to then shell out for a device you can use in competitions.

A newly designed unit, it should improve the fit and feel in the hand, and is also waterproof.

As a relative newcomer to golf, the distance measuring device (DMD) has developed at a rapid pace. The information has become more accurate, devices are easier to use and the good news is, they're also becoming more affordable. With this in mind, we tested 12 models that have been launched since our 2011 test. Not only have top-end models improved the quality of maps and the amount of information on offer, but there has also been an influx of stripped-back versions that are easy to use and provide basic information.

The major laser brands have also refined their products to make them easier to use. All this means there are more options out there than ever before, with products designed to meet the needs of different golfers. In this test, we aim to help refine your search and identify the best products on the market.

Venue:

The Golf Monthly staff conducted the test at the beautiful Liphook Golf Club in Hampshire, number 79 in the Golf Monthly Top 100 list. It was a course that the vast majority of testers had never played before and features a number of blind shots, as well as holes that require a club other than driver from the tee. The course offered the perfect opportunity to test each device to its fullest.

Test criteria:

To begin with, the test team went through the set-up process for every device to compare how easy it was to get the unit ready for play. Each member of the team then tried out two units on the course. The test team's handicaps varied from five to 24, and ranged from long-time DMD users to those who had never used one before. This helped us to test the suitability of a unit for different golfers. After the round, the team compared the features and benefits of each model and awarded points for the following:

Value: The initial price and download costs comparative to the quality of the unit.

Set-up: How easy the unit is to set up initially and download courses on to.

Ease of use: How easy it is to read yardages, as well as use any other additional features.

Information: The quality and quantity of information provided on the unit.

Ergonomics: How the unit feels in the hand, the button design and the bag clip.

Accuracy: How the yardage readings compare with other units, yardage markers and course guides.

Performance: An overall rating including how robust the unit is, the battery life, the clarity of the screen and how the unit attached to a golf bag.
