Austrian brand Big Max are all about the accessories, they are best known for making some fantastic and truly innovative trolleys but have steadily been building their reputation as a maker of quality golf bags. I am not overly familiar with the brand so was looking forward to giving this bag a go. 

I am a huge fan of lightweight bags, the lighter the better and at just 1.7kg (3.75lbs), this fits the bill. With four full length club dividers it can cope with a full set but is better suited for less which is how Big Max pitch the bag. Being so slim and light you would think that the pocket space would have to be compromised but I was impressed with the placement and sizes of the six pockets available, which include what you would expect from a larger bag. The large pocket could easily fit a few extra layers of clothing, the valuables pocket is padded and conveniently placed, and there is room for plenty of golf balls and other knik-knaks. The only pocket that I felt was a little on the small side was the insulated cooler pocket, so if you are a fan on 30oz plus water bottles like myself, you may have to downsize. 

Often slimline bags can feel a touch on the flimsy side, but this felt well-built, and the stand was reactive and very stable regardless of the ground slope. I really like the strap for the legs of the stand, which could have been all too easy to forego on such a light bag that will likely not be used much on a push cart, but it is nice to have that option and makes it ideal for travelling with. 

To wear the bag is very comfortable with good padding on the straps, the back padding, with air channel technology keeps you cool and gives the bag a nice balance to it when walking. The material, overall look and feel of the bag feels quality, and well constructed which is not always the case with 100% waterproof bags. 

If you are after a top quality stand bag for around the £150 price mark you absolutely cannot go wrong with the Big Max Aqua Seven G. It may be less in size and weight but is packed with features and could happily replace a full size stand bag.

The Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Plus is the latest addition to the brand’s Hybrid line. If you’ve been trying to buy one ahead of the new 2024 season, you might have struggled—it’s listed as sold out with some retailers. This is probably because it’s rather good.

Like all Dri Lite bags, the Hybrid Plus is made from waterproof material and waterproof zippers. It comes with a big waterproof hood, too, which is easy to attach. For those days on the course when it really comes down hard, this bag keeps everything bone dry. 

In terms of storage space, this bag has ample room for all of your accessories. Even golfers who pack for four seasons in one day will find plenty of space. The pockets are sizeable too, and each one has been well thought through. Four waterproof pockets will keep your valuables safe and dry. Some of them have been labelled, such as the phone pocket and value organizer. I’m not sure this is necessary as it spoils the look a touch—a user manual (leaflet) with the bag explaining what should go where might have been a better idea.

The best pocket is the cool bag, which has enough space for two bottles and a good handful of snacks. If you’re someone who ends up stuffing protein bars, nuts and fruit in a side pocket with your extra layers, you’ll appreciate this cool bag. No more reaching for your sweater and finding that it’s covered in squashed banana! This convenient pouch is a big plus. 

A number of other features make organization a lot simpler, including hooks for towels and a glove and umbrella holder. Then there’s the leg lock system. Pop the bag down and the legs spring out nice and wide, so there’s no danger of it toppling over in windy conditions. 

I prefer to carry my clubs, but I have popped the Dri Lite Hybrid Plus on a push cart too. As the name would suggest, it’s designed to be used as both a stand bag and carry bag. The trolley-compatible floor with a trolley-compatible leg lock system ensures that it stays firmly in place throughout your round. 

Meanwhile, the back pad with air channel makes it a comfortable carry. I wouldn’t say this bag is particularly light, but given the space that it offers, its 14-way divider top, handle, robust legs and base, nor would I class it as heavy. Of course, if super lightweight is your number one preference, you’ll find plenty of other options in the Big Max range, which is really extensive. 

For me, the only negative in terms of looks is the naming of the pockets. It’s a shame, because the Big Max logo on the ball pocket and Dri Lite lettering down the side look really smart. I’d say the smartest color is the white, navy and red, although there are six more options to choose from, including a couple of bolder ones (lime silver and royal sky blue).

As for the 14-ways divider, I’m not a fan – it’s just not a feature that I like in general. I don’t mind clubs rattling around a touch. I actually find fishing around for the club you want a bit of a faff when they have their own sleeves. However, if you’re used to this feature, and you like how each club can be arranged in its own home, then the way this 14-way divider has been built is perfectly fine.

We've always been fans of Big Max golf bags, so much so that a number of their models feature in our best golf bags' guide. Now, we have finally got our hands on the Aqua Eight G Stand Bag, which only adds and heightens their iconic Aqua range.

I actually own the Aqua Seven stand bag and adore it, so was excited to test out the Aqua Eight G and, straight off the bat, it's good news, as the overall look of the Eight G is superb. Adorned with various splashes of color and trim, it follows the same style as previous models, as Big Max have given this particular bag a seven-way divider, six spacious pockets, various handles for easy carrying and full waterproof protection.

Admittedly, when I first picked up and put the Aqua Eight on my shoulders, it did feel and look bigger than some of the other best golf stand bags on the market. However, when fully packed up with golf clubs, tees, balls etc, the bag still felt very light, with the carrying experience near faultless as the weight was evenly distributed.

Providing me with two thickly padded straps, what I really liked was that the leg lock system is hidden within the bag, so it's less likely to break, and the legs stay up when the bag is placed on the shoulders. What's more, the pockets, especially the cooler pocket, are easily accessible, but just be wary of the plastic protector on the left side of the bag which, occasionally, did hit the back of my leg.

In regards to the design of the bag, you can tell that those who like golf are involved, as the pockets are cleverly laid out and very spacious. The biggest pocket on the right hand side is large enough to hold waterproofs and a rain cover, with the waterproof pocket above it ideal for storing your phone and other necessities when out on the course.

Another two pockets feature on the left side, whilst the cooler pocket can store a medium-large sized water bottle when out on the move. The only slight downside is the larger the bottle the more it obstructs the pocket below, but I could still easily move my hand down and around it to access the golf balls that were stored in that particular pocket.

As mentioned, the bag comes across slightly larger than some of the other carry bags available, but there was no issue storing it in the trunk of my car or a cupboard at home. Also, when strapped onto a golf cart, the Aqua Eight G stayed perfectly stable so, if your budget doesn't stretch to any of the best golf cart bags, then the Aqua Eight G could fit the bill nicely.

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by what Big Max have produced here, which is a great performing bag that does everything it should. Its minimalist looks will appeal to all, whilst the well thought-out design provides excellent ease of use. Put simply, it's a great lightweight bag that will keep your equipment dry and protected in the harshest conditions.

Having played thousands of rounds of golf in the last 45 years or more, I have been through more golf bags than I can remember and been very impressed as technology and materials have led to constant improvements in what is on offer.

Big Max is an Austrian company that has been a major player in the bag and trolley market since its beginnings 30 years ago, and has a deserved reputation for quality products. I was therefore very pleased to try out the Aqua Hybrid 4, especially in view of the wettest winter we have seen in a long time!

As for its appearance, then this is a smart and professional-looking stand bag which is easy to use with its straps and stand, while also completely at home on a push cart or buggy. Not the tallest golfer, I didn’t need to adjust the detachable straps which are wide and comfortable with plenty of options to shorten or lengthen in order to carry at just the height and angle that suits. It also looks and feels very well constructed, with padding (and therefore comfort) very much a key ingredient. The 14-way divider keeps your clubs separate and protected, and there are six color options.

With regard to storage, then it’s hard to know where to begin! There are four very spacious external pockets, with the two larger ones offering more than enough space for waterproofs, spare clothing, rain hat, valuables and more. There are a couple of smaller pockets for items you may want to access easily, such as wallet or scorecard, and a large zippered pocket that will take not one but two drinks bottles and help maintain their temperature. There is even an external one to take yet another bottle offering the easiest access, as well as two Velcro strips to attach your glove.

My one minor niggle is that as I carry the bag - which I have now used for several rounds - there is sometimes a slight squeak from the straps. It may be that I don’t have the angle quite right, so I will look to adjust the carrying angle which will probably sort things out. Aside from this, the many plus-sides and features of the Aqua Hybrid 4 make this a very strong offering in a crowded market.

The first thing you notice about the good-looking Big Max Aqua 360 cart bag when you take it out of the box is just how unbelievably light it is - a very far cry from the heavy cart bags of old, which had the ability to put your back out lifting them out of the car. The declared weight is 2.4kg, but it doesn’t even feel that at all. (I recommend reading our best lightweight golf bags guide if you want more models like this).

The next thing you notice is that it has pocket space all the way around the bag, hence the 360 name. Your natural reaction is, “What’s the point of that as there are going to be some pockets you can’t access readily on a trolley or buggy?” A valid question but, having watched the video on the Big Max website, I can see that you may choose to use this additional space to simply streamline the number of things you have to carry to the course, perhaps putting your golf shoes in the big pocket on the side that would often be pocketless, hence no need for a separate shoe bag. Once I started using it, I could see that on the right push cart or electric trolley, where the bag sits away from the support frame, some of these rear pockets are still accessible – certainly on the Big Max trolley I was using.

Of course, the question then is, how much stuff do you really need with you out on the course? We all know there are days when we need to load up for various reasons, and this bag comes into its own then for surely not many bags out there can accommodate more. Being a waterproof golf bag is another excellent string to this model's already sizable bow.

I used to work for Sun Mountain’s UK distributors many years ago at a time when cooler pockets and Sharpie pen sleeves were the latest thing, so I know how important features can be. I wonder if some golf bags have gone overkill now, but I guess there’s always someone out there who really values every little detail in bags like the Big Max Aqua Sport 360, where no stone has been left unturned. 

My personal favorites were the extra-capacity drinks cooler pocket, which can comfortably keep two bottles cool, and the comfortable double grab handles at the top to help with maneuvering the bag out of the car boot. Your personal favorites may differ, but I’m afraid I still struggle to bring myself to like 14-way tops, while appreciating the logic and understanding that others think they're the best thing since sliced bread!

Big Max is a brand that produces some of the best golf bags on the market, with one of their newest iterations being the Big Max Aqua Tour 4 Cart Bag, a model that features in various colorways to suit various styles.

Firstly, though, we start with the storage of the Aqua Tour 4, which offers a vast amount of space and complete protection from the rain, however heavy. Looking at the pockets, which total 11 in all, we find two full-length pockets for clothing, as well as valuables pouches, an integrated cool bag for drinks and snacks with space for two bottles, and ample room elsewhere for any other accessories you need to get you round the course. 

What's more, it also includes an integrated battery and rain protection bag, meaning you can stow your battery close to your electric trolley. There’s also a glove and towel holder and two umbrella holders.

The brand’s Aqua range has set the standard when it comes to rain protection, with it ranking amongst the best waterproof golf bags money can buy. In regards to the Aqua Tour 4, it is no exception as it is 100% waterproof, with seam sealed and taped zippers on the pockets to make sure your valuables remain perfectly dry.

It manages this by using an Advanced Nano Hydrophobic coating, which is said to repel the water, meaning individual drops bead up and slide straight off. I tested the bag in pretty heavy rain and my valuables remained completely dry, which was reassuring.

Away from the pockets, the 14-way divider is more spacious than bags which offer a similar top, meaning no problems with clubs snagging on their way in or out. It also offers a separate extra large putter compartment for even more space. The two integrated handles on the top help with transportation and getting the bag on and off a trolley.

When it comes to width, the Aqua Tour 4 is slimmer than its predecessor and the strap position is easily adjustable. It also weighs in at 2.7 kg which, considering how much room and protection is on offer, is not bad at all in the lightweight golf bag category. 

Finally, it naturally comes with a rainhood and the padded shoulder strap is comfortable for anyone carrying, even when the bag is fully loaded. It effortlessly straps on to any cart, whatever the brand.

The best travel covers come in all shapes and sizes and cover a wide amount of price points. The Big Max Traveller sits somewhere towards the bottom of the price spectrum with the likes of the Sun Mountain Glider sitting well above it while something like the Macgregor VIP travel cover offering an even cheaper travel cover option. Earlier this year, we took the Big Max Traveler on a golf trip to Madeira to see how easy it was to travel with and how well it protected our clubs. 

Weighing just 3.2kg, this is a great travel cover to use if you plan to use the most of your weight allowance on the flight. There is loads of room to put shoes or clothing next to your golf bag and the very well proportioned pockets on the outside can easily fit a pair of the best golf shoes in. There's also a neat pocket (which you can see in the red zip here) that is really useful for smaller objects like a padlock or an Apple AirTag which I like to travel with. 

As well as being very well proportioned to travel with, the Traveler also comes with a unique padding system at the top of the bag. While many of you who have travelled with golf clubs before will know the ritual of stuffing clothes or towels at the top of the bag for extra protection for drivers and fairway woods, the Traveller negates the need for you to do this with its own integrated padding system. Situated at the top of the bag, it protects all sides of the tops of the clubs as your wrap it around. Coupled with the two straps integrated into the cover that allows you to strap your bag down, the Traveler really does a great job of protecting golf clubs on their travels. 

My only concerns with the Traveler are the quality of materials. There's no denying the cover's ability to protect golf clubs in transit, but there were already a few tears to fabrics on the inside of the cover after only a couple of journeys through airports. With that in mind, I'd recommend those go on multiple golf trips every year go for something a little more substantial like the Sun Mountain Kube or Motocaddy Flightsafe to name two. However, if you're traveling with your clubs once or twice a year, the Big Max Traveler represents an excellent value travel cover that is lightweight, well proportioned and with ample protection for golf clubs. While the RRP is £150, I've seen it readily available online for much less than that and the £120 or so you should be able to pick it up for represents one of the best value travel covers available right now. 

Big Max Dri Lite Feather Stand Bag Review

As golfers, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing the best golf stand bags, with companies producing new models year in and year out to capture our attention. Big Max is just one of those companies, well known for their excellence in producing great trolleys and cart bags, they have now put their hand in the mix of the stand bag. 

Let’s start with the biggest standout feature - the weight. With a name like ‘Feather’  in the name, you would expect this bag to be super lightweight and Big Max has achieved this with the use of ultra-lightweight material. I put the bag to the test over 18 holes at Kedleston Park Golf Club and I can honestly say it is the lightest bag I have ever carried. I finished the round, and my shoulders and back were absolutely fine, with no aches or pains.

The bag is described as 100% water resistant with every zipper having that waterproof seal we see used on all waterproof bags. However, the lightweight material used on this bag concerned me as it is wafer-thin. I couldn’t convince myself that it was water-resistant, so I put it to the test. Out came the garden hose, I wanted to see how much water the bag could resist, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The bag withstood the constant stream of water with beads just rolling off the surface, so I wouldn’t panic if you get caught in a light shower on the golf course. It's still always handy to have an umbrella on hand because you never know when you will need it. 

That brings me to the umbrella holder. For me, umbrella holders on carry bags are always fiddly, impractical and insecure. For the Big Max Dri Lite Feather stand bag, it’s not much different. With the material used for the bag, the weight of the umbrella pulls down and stretches the back pocket. This can often lead to the legs of the bag not quite folding up properly. That is only a small moan as it didn’t affect the overall performance of the bag and how it sat on my shoulders when being carried. 

That being said, this golf bag would be a great addition to have for summer golfing, because of its weightlessness. There are five pockets on the bag with just enough room for golf balls, tees, gloves and a jumper or two and it also includes an excellent cooler pocket for drinks and snacks. Overall the Big Max Dri Lite Feather is an excellent golf bag out on the course and is one of the best lightweight golf bags on the market. It is stylish to look at and practical for summer golf.

The Big Max Dri Lite Sport 2 golf bag features a wide range of features in a waterproof design that will tick a lot of boxes. I have used a few Big Max bags over the years and one of the key benefits is that they combine a lightweight design with a material that will keep your kit dry in the rain.

This important for two reasons. Firstly, you don’t want your gear to get soaked and secondly having a lighter bag on a trolley means it is easier to manoeuvre the whole thing, especially if you carry as much junk in your bag as some people I know. A friend recently admitted his cart bag had over 70 balls in it!

And there is plenty of space in there for gear as the two side pockets are very generous even if they aren’t the full length of the bag. Easily enough room for two sets of waterproofs and everything else you need.

On the front of the bag are three good sized pockets for large items and balls, then one for tees and finally a cooler pouch for drinks. This can take two decent sized bottles, but if they are a stocky shape then the opening can feel a little narrow.

On each side there are two pockets marked mobile phone, ideal for those who have a shady line of work that requires two phones, or if you have a burner phone for golf that the partner doesn’t know about. Only one of these pockets is lined with a softer fabric to protect the phone, so if you are legit and just have one phone then the other pocket is ideal for gloves.

One thing I did like about the Big Max Dri Lite Sport 2 golf bag is the handles, especially the large padded one on the front for lifting out of the car on to the trolley. It’s strong and comfortable and so much better than having one on the underside that turns the bag upside down when you are carrying it. The Dri Lite Sport 2 has one of them too, but I prefer the one on the front together with the excellent side handles either side of the top.

However the position of the handle does mean that there is no high pocket for things like a laser. Therefore you have to hang it off the specific loops around the top, none of which are really ideal for this function. Other bags I have tested have better loops in better positions for this, or the top pocket that I was used to, so I am torn between the functionality of a top pocket versus the better front handle.

The bag strap fastenings and umbrella loops are also in an odd place as they are the same level as the holder on a trolley and this is a bit of an open goal miss for a cart bag. Similarly, the detachable strap does not have a sleeve to hold it in place when it is on the trolley and create a cleaner look. However the pocket on the underside for the detachable hood is a step in the right direction.

Compared to the best golf bags the Big Max Dri Lite Sport 2 Golf bag is a very good cart bag and the 14 way divider plus additional putter well provides easy access to your clubs in a lightweight bag that will keep your clubs dry. When comparing the best golf cart bags, this model comes out favorably.

Its real challengers are the own brand bags of the electric trolley manufacturers that are more tailored to the respective trolley design and avoid the comprises I mentioned. However the Big Max Dri Lite Sport 2 has its own plus points in the handle and stylish design that still makes it a worthwhile choice.

Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid 2 Stand Bag Review

Big Max has made its name in the golf trolleys market, and the brand follows a simple philosophy: every product is different and has different requirements. Its line-up of bags is very impressive. Quite frankly, if you can’t find a bag you like here, you’ll struggle to find one anywhere.

The Big Max Dri Lite bags are water resistant, with waterproof zips. They are suitable for all weather conditions, while a new pipeless design also improves water drainage for better protection.

I’m still an avid carrier. I’m a romantic – I just like the feel of a bag on my back and the sound of the clubs as I walk. However, I am noticing a few aches and pains around my shoulders and back. The best golf stand bags are light - which is my number one priority - and the Dri Lite Hybrid 2 is certainly that, despite the 14-way divider.

Personally, I prefer a 4-way top. I don’t feel a slot is needed for every club. I like the speed of sliding a club back in without faffing around, but that’s just personal preference. Some golfers will obviously like the fact it allows you to organise your clubs by length, and that it guarantees an overview while playing.

What stands out for me is the styling – it’s one very attractive bag. The colours, of which there are five, are really smart, and the material has a premium look and feel. It’s extremely comfortable, too. The straps, which are easy to adjust, have a soft feel, so carrying really is a joy. It also has two really sturdy handles, so it's easy to manoeuvre around. I do think the legs are quite spindly. Certainly I have seen sturdier legs, but I only see it being a problem if you’re playing in very windy conditions.

You can always rely on Big Max to cater for your storage needs. With seven pockets, there is plenty of space for all your extra clothing and accessories. One of these is a cooler pocket for food and drinks, and a waterproof valuables pocket, which is 100% waterproof. Meanwhile, there are hooks for your towel, a glove holder, and an umbrella holder. A special word for the zips, too, which all have a useful hook attached. It makes them quick and easy to operate, a small but important detail. They also slot back into their own tiny housing units, which I'm guessing helps to keep everything dry if the heavens open. Again, it's a nice added design feature that shows great attention to detail. 

Another key piece of technology is the trolley-compatible base and trolley-compatible, reinforced support, which means the Dri Lite Hybrid 2 can also be used as a cart bag.

It’s hard to find a fault with this bag, but I am going to be picky: I don’t like the labels for the glove holder (a picture of a hand) and the pencil sleeve (a picture of a pencil). I think most golfers would know what these features were, but this is a very minor quibble. I have a number of golf bags in the garage to choose from, but it’s this one that’s getting the nod for the rest of the season.

BIG MAX Dri Lite Tour Cart Bag Review

The BIG MAX Dri Lite Tour Cart Bag is one of five golf bags in the Dri Lite range that combine water repellent fabric with 100% waterproof zips. The company says tongue-in-cheek that most other golf bag brands would call the Dri Lite bags waterproof, but as BIG MAX also has its own line of 100% waterproof bags, they are happy to stick with water repellent! The Dri Lite Tour is unmistakably designed for top equipped golfers. It was used over multiple rounds, so here’s a review and video for you to judge whether it ranks as one of the best cart bags on the market.

For a large tour bag weighing in at 2.4kg, the first thing I noticed was that it is surprisingly light, even when holding a full set of clubs. Transporting it was easy too, thanks to the two carry handles at the top and a heavy-duty handle at the front. A strap is also attached should you (or a caddie) want to carry it. 

It looks extremely durable and well-made and the three-color styling of black, charcoal and merlot is classy looking and just enough of each color with one being dominant to make it easy on the eyes. It is also available in six other color options.

Nothing has been left to chance in terms of what golfers might want from a bag of this size, which follows BIG MAX’s philosophy of designing bags to cover most needs, as everyone is different and has different requirements. It has nine pockets in total including two full-length pockets on either side that have the capacity to store plenty of additional clothing. 

A larger than expected integrated cooler pocket is nicely located at the front of the bag, so without any fuss you can grab a drink and a sandwich. Other notable features are the towel holder that sits directly below a Velcro glove holder, at the back of the bag is a separate pocket for the rain hood, and not forgetting an umbrella holder.

When selecting a club, it was good to see them clearly in the oversize top, there was no hiding underneath each other, and also knowing that they were fully protected by the 14 full-length dividers, plus there is a separate putter well. This bag really does cater for your every need and it looks good, so you won't go far wrong with this one if it's a tour size bag that you're after.

The Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Tour stand bag is an excellent option for those who carry their clubs some days but prefer to utilise a trolley on other occasions.

As well as its versatility, it offers premium looks with its split colour design, and boasts a range of features to make transporting your clubs, apparel and gadgets hassle-free.

The first thing you notice when you look at the Dri Lite Hybrid Tour is the colour scheme. The shades of blue and white are complemented by red accents to create an upscale aesthetic - there is a range of colours available, from the eye-catching to more subtle.

It’s also extremely lightweight, with the bag weighing in at just 2kgs. Add in the highly water-resistant nature of the bag and you have a model that’s both visually appealing and highly practical.

The practicality extends to it’s dual-use potential – one of the Hybrid Tour’s main selling points. The trolley compatible footless base fits flush on to the base of any push or electric trolley, while the leg-lock system means the legs don’t protrude when you secure it in place.

The legs are also attached further down the body of the bag than most others so it sits square on a trolley with no twisting. The re-inforced area at top (from where the legs have been moved) where the bag rests on the trolley means the contact area remains in good order over time.

To make things even easier, the carry strap is easily removable so it doesn’t get in the way. If you do choose to carry, though, you’ll find the strap comfortable and relatively twist-resistant. There's also a reinforced grab handle for easy lifting.

In terms of storage, the Dri Lite Hybrid Tour has five pockets of varying sizes, the common theme being the fact they’ve got waterproof zips. There's a fully waterproof valuables pocket and a voluminous cooler pocket that has enough space to store multiple drinks and food items. The ball pouch’s size means even the most wayward of hitters won’t run out of missiles to fire.

On top, the 14-way divider means it’s easy to organise your clubs in a pattern that suits you. 

While it has many positive attributes, it isn’t a perfect bag. The bag’s legs don’t extend far enough to guarantee stability in all conditions, possibly because they are shorter than most, and you do have to push down hard to get them to release. The zips also snag relatively easily and are quite hard to open with one hand. 

Big Max Aqua Sport 3 Cart Bag Review

Two over-riding strengths of the Big Max Aqua Sport 3 cart bag are its extensive storage capacity and that it is waterproof. To begin with, there are ten pockets and some are deep. Perhaps even too deep on occasion.

If you forget what you did with your car keys, you might find yourself scrambling around in the nine pockets a couple of times (no need to search the dedicated battery pocket) for quite some time. They were typically in the ninth, or should that be the 18th, pocket that we tried.

Our playing partners were most impressed with the zips though, saying how smoothly the pockets zipped and unzipped, unlike those on some waterproof bags.

The bag, for something looking a touch heavy and cumbersome, is in fact neither. There is a solid handle three-quarters of the way up and a carrying loop at the bottom, as welll as a hand hole at the top to allow you to manoeuvre the bag in and out of a car boot easily. There is also a shoulder strap for easy carrying.

The bag also weighs less than you may expect – at 2.4kg it compares well to some of the best lightweight carry bags at 2.2kg.

We used a hire trolley from the club – in other words, one which does not strap a bag onto the trolley – and the bag sat balanced happily on it all round without twisting or making bids for freedom.

The top has 15 dividers for clubs. One of these is oversize, for a putter or, it is suggested, possibly an umbrella. However there is also a loop system to carry the umbrella on the outside of the bag.

The cooler pocket was not the slickest to manoeuvre a bottle in and out of, which was our only criticism of the bag and a mild one at that.

It is a very innovative way of designing a golf bag meaning you don’t have to have separate bags stored at home if you interchange between carrying and using a trolley when you play. 

The practicality does not stop there as the Dri Lite Hybrid Tour bag has a 14-way top with full-length dividers, meaning no club crowding and easy organisation for a full set. There are five spacious, fully waterproof pockets for things like valuables, drinks and extra clothing that will keep all your belongings safe and dry if you get caught in the rain. 

When using the Dri Lite Hybrid Tour bag as a trolley bag, there is plenty of room to pack the bag full of extra things you wouldn’t otherwise want to carry. Overall, this is a clever, practical and well built bag that is a one stop shop for golfers looking for a stand, trolley and waterproof golf bag for all year round use.

Big Max Aqua 7 Stand Bag Review

The Big Max Aqua 7 is a lightweight, comfortable, practical, waterproof stand bag. It is also cleverly designed to transform easily into a trolley bag.

The five pockets give ample storage. Taped seams and waterproof zips to the pockets ensure that the contents remain dry and it comes with a detachable rain hood.

In addition, it has an umbrella holder and even a Velcro patch to attach your golf glove to. The padded valuables pocket offers extra protection to its contents.

The two horizontal zips – on the pockets for balls and tees – did not slide as easily as the vertical ones. These needed two hands to fully close and open. But the valuables, garment and cooler pocket zips all run vertical and were a breeze to open and close.

There is a padded section where the bag rests against the small of your back which makes the bag comfortable to carry.

The padding around the carry handle is Velcroed on, so can be removed to reduce the weight even further – although I suspect unnoticeably – by those who don’t use the carry handle much.

The bag has more than enough space for a full set of 14 clubs. The four-way divider helps separation, but the clubs feel a little cramped when lots of head covers are used.

Appropriately for a company that originally made its name in golf trolleys, this stand bag is designed to be used on a trolley, too. The legs have a Velcro leg lock, to keep them tight to the bag when on a trolley.

But an even more useful feature when using The Big Max Aqua 7 on a trolley is the squared off design of the bag top. This means it rests easily and, crucially, stays in place, on a trolley. Unlike many stand bags that have oval-shaped tops that easily twist on a trolley.

The Big Max Aqua 7 weighs just 1.7kg and comes in eight different colours combinations, so you should be able to find one that suits your eye.

The latest push trolley from Big Max is extremely lightweight and comes with a really simple-folding mechanism as well as a five-year warranty.

As soon as we put our bag on the trolley we noticed how easy it was to push - it really did take minimal effort to move it around the golf course, even when we had quite a lot of things in the pockets of our bag.

It comes with a straight central axle linking the two larger rear wheels, which certainly seemed to help provide a more stable ride. The base of the trolley is designed to fit the Big Max bags, like the new matching Dri Lite Sport we tested it with, which stops it from twisting during the course of a round.

It doesn't fold down as flat as the impressive Blade IQ model but it should leave enough space in your car boot for your clubs and anything else you may need to store in transit to and from the course.

The large central storage unit on the trolley comes in very handy, with lots of spaces for items you'll need quick access to - golf balls and a water bottle in particular.

We also loved the simplicity of the foot brake, keeping the trolley in place while you hit shots on uneven ground.

You can set the handle to your preferred height using a clip, which also allows the trolley to be folded down in a couple of swift moves.

The trolley features ultra-lightweight performance, coming in at just 5.4kg and comes with a really simple folding mechanism, plus a five year warranty.

Both bags offer very high levels of water resistance for when you're playing in changeable conditions or, frankly, when it is tipping it down.

The Dri Lite Sport is a pure trolley bag whereas the Dri Lite Hybrid is designed to be used as a versatile carry bag that you can also put on a trolley as well.

The pockets and the material is all 100% waterproof and it's great that it provides the confidence you need that whenever you get caught out by heavy showers that this bag will protect everything that's inside it.

We poured water over it and it simply beaded off, so it passed that test!

It has nine waterproof pockets in total so there's plenty of great storage but it only comes in at 2.2kg so it shoudn't get too heavy if you do want to take a lot of stuff out with you to the golf course.

The bag comes with a 14-way divider to keep your clubs apart and an oversized putter well at the top provides easy access to your putter. We really liked that.

It also has a huge cooler pocket to keep your drinks and snacks nice and cold, and we found that all of the pockets are very spacious.

The base is also designed to fit flush on the Big Max Ti Lite trolley to keep it secure whilst you're playing.

It has sleek, sporty look to it and we think it looks great.

The key talking point here is just how lightweight it is, coming in at just 5.4kg.

Dri Lite Hybrid Bag

This has been designed for those golfers who sometimes want to carry and sometimes want to use a trolley, and just want one bag to do both jobs.

Stand bags can sometimes be annoying to place perfectly on a trolley and that is something that Big Max has thought about with the Dri Lite Hybrid.

The trolley-compatible Hybrid Stand sits a little bit lower and allows the bag to be placed flush at the top of the trolley.

The bottom of the bag also sits flush on the trolley too so it should stay just as secure as the trolley bag would do.

However, saying that, it still works perfectly as a stand bag with great padding on the straps and an an Airtec Air Channel to ensure your back doesn't get too sweaty when it's a hot day.

At 2.2kg it's supremely light but having said that, there's great storage space with numerous pockets including a full-length space to store things like waterproofs and jumpers, a valuables pocket and a cooler pocket.

There's also the usual pockets you'd expect to store things like balls, tees and gloves.

Regardless of whether you want to use it with a trolley or carry it, the Dri Lite Hybrid meets both needs really well.
