We are very lucky to have superb working relationships with some of the biggest brands in the sport here at Golf Monthly. The likes of Titleist, TaylorMade, Vessel and more often supply us with some of the best golf bags money can buy for testing, but we also love to give smaller companies their share of the limelight - especially if we like their products!

Step forward Alex and Myles Wheeler, two golf-crazed brothers and the founders of Forge Golf, a UK-based DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) brand. They’ve timed their second-ever release with this year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and the design includes a number of smile-worthy hat tips to the heritage and history of links golf.

Although the bag not associated with the Open Championship on an official basis, each embroidered element on the bag pays homage to links golf, including a maritime print in reference to British maritime heritage and the coastal setting of links golf, as well as the embroidered “Forged For The Links”, a play on words connecting the brand name to a bag built for the links course. There are two more subtle references to Royal Birkdale with the year the course was founded, 1889, embroidered on the carry handle and Southport - 2026 written on the main body of the bag.

As a golf history nerd who has spent his my entire life playing links golf, just like Alex and Myles, I was completely wooed. Striking first impressions aside, is the bag as good as it looks?

In short, yes. The quality of the bag is evident the moment you lift it out of the box. The 14-way fully divided top isn’t my favorite on a golf bag, but the quality is immense and your ears are met with a pleasing ‘thud’ any time you slide your iron back into a slot after each shot.

A big green tick in my review was the two well-placed bottle holders near the ball pocket. I do wish they were slightly bigger as I tend to bring quite large bottles onto the course when I play, but your regular 500ml bottle will sit in here easily and peacefully.

The aforementioned ball pocket and front magnetic pocket are excellent as well, easily housing my golf balls and multiple bags full of tees, ball markers and more (yes, I carry too much in my bag).

The main side pocket is spacious and easy to access, whilst the rain cover that comes included fits in here easily and still gives you plenty of room for any accessories or extra layers you want to bring onto the links with you. All of this wrapped in the blue and yellow colorway synonymous with the oldest championship in golf makes for a hell of a package.

If I had one criticism, it is that the straps squeak a bit as you walk. This may only be an issue with the sample I was sent and could well be fixable - I just wasn’t smart enough to find the solution to this minor quirk.

Considering this, and even though the straps lead to a comfortable walk, I think this bag is best served on a trolley. Be that a push cart, electric trolley or even the back of a golf cart, it is versatile enough to be used in any way you wish.

Forge Golf’s brand mission is clear - small, limited-time releases built around high-end quality and crafted golf bags. Their first release, the Founders Edition bag, was limited to just 50 units, and their Links Edition follows the same formula.

Only 100 units of this bag have been made, and with pre-orders going live on 13th July, you’ll have to be quick to get your hands on one. You can do that by visiting the Forge Golf website.

Titleist has long been synonymous with producing some of the best golf bags money can buy, and its latest iteration of the iconic Players line is no exception.

Sitting at the top end of the newly introduced 'S' range, the Players S5 StaDry promises to combine a lightweight carry with ultimate waterproof protection and maximum storage for complete versatility. I recently took it out on the course to see if it lives up to its premium billing.

Straight out of the box, the Players S5 StaDry boasts the classic, timeless silhouette I have come to expect from Titleist and, in particular, the Players range. It is available in four sleek colourways, but the traditional black with red and grey trimming was my favourite. The premium polyester material feels incredibly robust, and that is something Titleist has made a conscious effort to improve within this new lineup.

The upgraded materials are now highly resistant to abrasion, tears, and UV exposure, and I can certainly believe it just from touching the fabric. It will be interesting to see if the black colour fades over the warm summer we hopefully have in store, but only time will tell on that front.

It’s the sheer functionality of the S5 StaDry that truly stood out to me and is what had me thinking this has to be one of the best stand bags on the market. Titleist has managed to integrate 10 pockets into a stand bag without making it look overly bulky, which is really impressive.

As someone who likes being prepared for the course, carrying extra layers, drinks, and food, this amount of pockets is a dream. The storage options include a lined, waterproof valuables pocket, an insulated external water bottle pocket, and a Velcro glove landing patch if you don’t want to stuff it in your back pocket on a warm day.

The integrated cart strap tunnel is a massive bonus if, like me, you occasionally prefer to use a trolley or buggy when the weather warms up, or you’re on vacation.

The brand-new 5-way top cuff with a full-length divider really helped reduce club entanglement and made retrieving and replacing clubs feel effortless. In my testing, this slightly wider, refined configuration virtually eliminated the annoying grip-tangle that often bugs me when using smaller stand bags, even more so after hitting a poor shot!

When it came to braving the elements, the StaDry technology was faultless. The seam-sealed construction and high-quality YKK zippers ensured that, even when I was caught in a heavy downpour, my spare layers, grips, and valuables remained completely bone dry.

While a base weight of 2.5kg means the S5 StaDry sits slightly on the heavier side for a pure carry bag compared to ultra-lightweight bags such as the Titleist Players 4 carbon stand bag.

Despite this, I found that the updated premium double strap system balanced the weight perfectly across my shoulders, and combined with a larger, integrated hip pad, there was an abundance of comfort on offer the whole time I was on the course.

As if this bag wasn’t already impressive enough, the redesigned stand system for the new line offered a reliable leg deployment and wide stance when sat down, providing rock-solid stability that held up well even when the wind picked up or on uneven ground.

If you are a dedicated everyday golfer who refuses to compromise on storage or weather protection, I can confidently say the Titleist Players S5 StaDry is quite simply one of the best waterproof bags money can buy.

I've always been a fan of Big Max golf bags; in fact, I've had two of them previously - Aqua Eight G and Dri Lite Seven G.

They rank among the best waterproof golf bags money can buy, and for good reason, which is why I was excited to test the Big Max Aqua Eight H stand bag, a model that has received a bit of a redesign.

The headline news isn't just the new ErgoFit Disc, which aids carrying, but also the rethought storage space, which has an extra-large cooler bag with a drain function, as well as a soft-touch valuables' bag and well-thought-out organiser pockets.

Off the bat, I was very impressed by the pockets and, indeed, the sheer size of them. Given this is a stand bag, it almost rivals those in the best golf cart bag categories, such is the depth and space of it.

In the cooler bag, I could fit two 600ml Smart water bottles, while the pocket that stored the waterproof cover could also hold a waterproof top and a midlayer comfortably

What I particularly liked was the valuables pocket. Inside, you will find two mesh sections, as well as the main pocket itself, which means I could store my phone, wallet, gloves, keys and even sun cream and bug spray.

Put simply, the storage on offer was exceptional.

For me, the good news doesn't stop there either, as I was very pleased with the work done on the carrying system.

All four straps of the bag meet neatly in the ErgoFit Disc and, after readjusting to the correct height, they move seamlessly to keep the bag stable when extra weight is applied.

I tested the Cobra Ultradry Pro stand bag in 2023, and was impressed with how the straps moved to keep the bag level, and I'm very happy to say that the Big Max was similar in that regard.

Moving to the weight, and I will admit the Aqua Eight H is on the larger side, which meant the weight was too.

It is distributed well, though, especially given the number of items I was able to get in it. What's more, I did manage to carry the stand bag with no problems for 36 holes, so it's definitely manageable.

One point worth noting is that, like other Big Max bags, you'll be happy to know thick, cushioned straps are provided so that it's comfortable.

These straps can be removed easily via the ErgoFit Disc, making the move from carrying to putting it on a trolley/cart seamless.

There's a lot to like about the Aqua Eight H. In terms of downsides, there are one or two small bits.

Like every golf bag, dividers are a personal preference and, with this particular model, it has a seven-way top. This helped separate the clubs, in terms of ordering the bag, it does make it slightly harder than a bag with either a four-way or 14-way top.

For me, the biggest negatives are the zips. They are fully waterproof and do a good job of keeping water out, but they do feel slightly flimsy and are fiddly to do up.

This is something I found to be a problem with the other Big Max bag I tested, where the main zip was slightly faulty and, consequently, broke a few months after being used.

Overall, the bag is sturdy, but I would like the zips to be a bit more substantial and smoother. For me, though, the Big Max Aqua Eight H is an excellent all-round model and, if you are after a fully waterproof bag that offers premium performance, it's certainly an option to think about.

The zips might be the only let-down, but I really enjoyed my overall experience while testing this stand bag.

OGIO has long been a standout in the golf world, known for breaking the mold with bold, head-turning designs. They have a knack for functional flair, seemingly thinking of every small detail a golfer needs before they even realise they need it.

I spent the final months of winter lugging around a stand bag that was far too heavy. But just before the winter trolley bans were lifted, I tested this OGIO Featherlite over a few rounds to see if it ranks among the best golf stand bags on the market.

I generally prefer a more understated aesthetic, so while some of OGIO’s designs are a bit too bold for my taste, the Dusk print strikes the perfect balance. The mix of patterns and solid colors in orange and blue tones feels sophisticated without being over-the-top, giving it a premium look that suits my style.

The Pivot Puck strap system and the clippable, perforated foam straps made the setup incredibly easy. The foam is breathable and sat comfortably against my back.

One thing I did notice is that the strap length is generous. For my frame, they dangled a bit once tightened, so a little annoying, likely because the bag was designed with a wide range of body sizes in mind. However, it's a small trade-off for such a flexible adjustment system that ensures a good fit for anyone.

I comfortably carried 10 clubs in the four-way molded top and was impressed by how the bag lives up to its name. It is crafted from 200D 3-line mini ripstop fabric, which feels both ultra-light and remarkably durable. On the course, the legs snapped in and out, holding their ground firmly on a variety of lies.

Despite the ultra-slim profile and four-way over-molded top, I was struck by the amount of organisation provided by the ten functional pockets. This includes an ‘on-course locker’ tucked inside the main apparel pocket for better organisation of smaller items, along with a dedicated pen holder and a Velcro glove patch for quick access. I also like the velour-lined magnetic pocket, which sits above the full-length apparel pocket.

This bag features a minimalist design that doesn’t sacrifice performance. Whether carrying year-round or if you just need a reliable lightweight backup for when the course is too soft for wheels, this bag is a fantastic choice.

A brand you would’ve undoubtedly have heard of in the golf bag space over the last few years is Big Max which is not hard to see why. In my opinion the brand makes some top designs including some of the best cart bags and best stand bags in the game. I recently tested the latest Aqua Seven H model to see if it continues that trend.

For me a non-negotiable when carrying a stand bag is comfort, and the bag needs to be lightweight. As someone perilously close to my mid-30’s the carrying experience needs to be as stress-free and comfortable as possible and I can honestly say the Aqua Seven made it seamless for me. At just 1.6kg I found it easy to lift onto my shoulders all day and importantly I found it easy to adjust the straps to get a comfortable fit on my back and shoulders as well. Other models I have tested make this job very intricate but Big Max nailed the strap system for me and the overall ease of use of the Aqua Seven is top-notch. For example the stand was sturdy and balanced well across a variety of lies, largely because it spread out just far enough into a strong triangle shape. Overall I think all the key elements were exactly where I needed them to be and performed as they should.

Another non-negotiable is waterproofing. Playing as I do in the United Kingdom, rain comes from anywhere, at a moment's notice, so having the peace of mind that my bag is totally waterproof is vital. The Aqua Seven delivers here as well with a waterproof nylon construction and seam-sealed seams and zips, whilst it comes with a high-quality rain cover as well which was pretty standard in its design.

The only two very small negatives I could think of here were a couple of the seven pockets on the design are a little bit small, whilst it also comes with a 4-way divider which I know some golfers would want more. I myself like the simplicity of a 4-way top though so it is a subjective nit-pick. Speaking of a subjective point, I think this bag looks fantastic as well, especially in the blueberry color I got sent pictured. It really pops nicely and stands out without being over the top.

The final point I want to make is how the general feel of this bag feels outstandingly premium whether that be the small details like zippers, or the larger details like the feel of the bags fabric and stitching throughout. What makes this so noteworthy is this bag can be found for under $150 at some retailers and when you consider the total performance here, I think it is definitely a model to consider if you need a new stand bag. With the greatest of respect to the myriad of golf brands that develop the best cart bags in the world, it's hard to get particularly excited when a new one comes to market. With a 14-way divider, loads of pockets and plenty of other storage features, it certainly feels like the cart bag has been done over and over again.

That was until the new Big Max Aqua IPX Tour found its way onto my doorstep a few months ago. This bag can proudly make the claim that it is the world's first non-stitched, welded golf bag. Crafted with a fancy new IPX material, it looks to set the new gold standard for waterproofing on the best golf bags in the industry.

By eliminating traditional stitching between the fabric on a normal golf bag, Big Max has here used an industry-first welded structure to create a seamless, impenetrable barrier against the water. I liken it to a wetsuit, which is, famously, very waterproof.

Coupled with the waterproof zippers fitted to each bag, you really do have a bag that water simply won't penetrate. I took this bag up to Scotland a few weeks ago, and it handled the heavy Scottish early Spring showers with ease, keeping all of my belongings bone dry as water simply wicked off the fabric.

Eight pockets in total result in a vast amount of pocket volume that leaves you with perfect organisation of all of your belongings. The best pocket for me is the cooler pocket, which can easily fit two large bottles in it.

Cleverly, Big Max has designed it with a waterproof inner layer and a spout at the bottom of the bag that can release water. So, you can fill this pocket up with ice, and hide the cans of your beverage of choice within it, and keep them perfectly chilled for the entirety of your round. Once you're done, you can open the spout at the bottom of the bag and let the melted ice out.

It touches like this that make Big Max one of the leading forces behind golf bag design and innovation. Each pocket is meticulously thought about, and you can tell each product has been designed with golfers in mind, by people who are passionate about both golf and design.

These touches of detail carry on across the bag and include the XL putter well at the top of the 14-way divider, the quick access zips on the front ball pocket and an additional valuables pocket

I think this is a great-looking, premium cart bag, too. I've had plenty of compliments on the course about it, especially in this green colourway. The IPX material creates this beautiful matte finish that is unique in the cart bag world. It really stands out in a very pleasing way.

One issue with the IPX material, however, is that it makes the pockets of the bag quite firm and tight. There's very little give, even when the zips are fully open, to reach into the lower parts of a full pocket. The large apparel pocket is where this is the most frustrating, where you can't really reach down into the bottom of the pocket without having to take everything out first, such is the tightness of the bag.

One design element I would like to see changed, and this goes for the vast majority of the best Big Max golf bags, is a reduction in the amount of writing across the bag. I don't mind a bit of branding here and there, but printing the word 'Soft Touch' across the zipper of the valuables pocket and '14.0 WD' on the side of the back are unnecessary additions that take away from what is a very premium-looking bag. Why do I need to know that the valuables pocket is 'Soft Touch'? I've already got the bag!

All in all, this is, for me, the best waterproof cart bag money can buy right now. The new technology is impenetrable, and the byproduct is also a bag that looks sleek and performs perfectly. Yes, the new material does hamper the stretchiness of the pockets when they're full, but this is a fine tradeoff in my opinion for what is a well-designed and beautifully executed cart bag.

There are a lot of Sunday bags on the market these days, but none quite like the new Sunday Carry from Vessel Golf, which is probably best known for its larger hybrid and staff bags more than anything else.

That’s not to say Vessel doesn’t make a great carry bag. I still consider the VSL stand bag one of the finest carry bags I’ve ever tried.

But the Sunday Carry ($199), which weighs just 2.3 pounds, is as minimalist as it gets. And it all starts with the initial presentation. Folded into itself, it actually looks like a small shoe carrier.

But unzip it, unfold it, and put in a small rod to give the upper part of the bag a little structure, and voila, you have a golf bag.

Incredibly, this bag that’s constructed from durable 420D performance polyester with genuine leather accents and has just one divider, can actually hold up to 14 clubs. But if you were to do that, I think you’d be missing the point. That’s where I’d go back to a bag like the VSL, which as one of the best golf bags around is going to do a much better job of carrying a full complement of clubs.

Instead, I think this bag is best suited for playing pitch and putts, working on your short game, or perhaps going to the range. Just remember, though, without a stand, this bag is going to lay on the ground, which might not appeal to everyone, but hey, that’s how they did it in the old days.

Where I loved it was on a par-3 course, where I could just take a putter, a couple of wedges and an 8- and 9-iron. Loaded with a few clubs and a few balls, the whole package weighed less than six pounds, and it was super easy to carry.

The Vessel Sunday Carry has just two pockets. The upper lined pocket is designed for valuables like keys, wallet, and cell phone. In the lower, larger pocket you can place a few balls, and perhaps even a couple of other items like an extra glove or rangefinder or GPS device. The bag also comes with a single padded strap, which is more than adequate for its minimalist purpose.

Folding the bag back into itself is a little more difficult than unfolding it, but once I did it, I realized it wasn’t so hard. I can’t imagine any golfers would use the Vessel Sunday Carry as their primary bag, and many not even their second bag. So without a doubt, I think being able to fold this for compact storage is the most endearing trait of the Sunday Carry.

On a side note, when the bag is in storage mode looking like a shoe carrier, or when you look inside the lower picket, there’s a number above the logo and a message that declares among other things, that “You are a Vessel. Filled with Purpose.”

I thought it might be a unique serial number, but instead it correlates with the number of school backpacks donated by Vessel to kids in need. In the case of this particular Vessel, that number is up to 764,603.

Wilson has had a superb start to 2026 from a hardware and golf ball perspective. It's Staff XB irons have taken the players' distance category by storm, while the updated Staff Model golf balls once again continue to be one of the very best premium golf balls on the market.

With the year it is having, the last thing I expected Wilson to also release in 2026 was a stand bag, yet here we are with the luscious-looking 1914 stand bag now available.

That being said, these styles of the best stand bags are all the rage at the moment. The Ping Reserve stand bag, Ogio Shadow and Vessel Player V are just a few of these styles of classic-looking stand bags, often using PU leather as the primary material. So, what could Wilson bring to this crowded market with the 1914?

I'm glad Wilson has ventured into this part of the stand bag market; it's exactly where a brand with this much equipment heritage should be sitting. Clean, classic, understated and letting the product do the talking.

That is very much the case with the 1914 from a looks perspective. There's not much to be said about bags of this style. In the politest way possible, they all look the same to me.

That's not to say there aren't some lovely touches of detail dotted over the design. From the subtle stitching of the Wilson logo down the side of the apparel pocket to the leather and logoed zip handles, this bag doesn't scream so much as sing gently about the brand.

Likely the nicest design touch to my eye is the carbon fibre legs. Not only does it make the bag look better, but it also makes it more lightweight than many of the PU leather counterparts. A similar bag I tested most recently (also made by an equipment OEM) was the Ping Reserve stand bag, which was a whole pound heavier despite being a very similar size.

The pockets are generously sized and well-positioned across the bag to allow you to carry everything you need in a bag like this. Where the aforementioned Ping missed a magnetic, easy-access rangefinder pocket and an external water bottle pocket, the Wilson has both.

As well as this, you get a valuables pocket, a customizable ball pocket on the front, a large side pocket for apparel and two large accessory pockets.

Finally, the double 360 strap system does a great job of balancing the weight across the shoulders, while some decent hip padding makes the 1914 a very comfortable carry on the golf course, no matter how heavy you make it with added golf clubs and accessories.

For my money, I'd personally invest a little further up the market into a Vessel or Ogio bag as these tend to have a few more bells and whistles while also being developed by brands that specialise in baggage, not golf clubs.

The fact that this is more lightweight than many competitors in this space does do a lot to broaden the appeal, however, and it's great to see a more lightweight version of a PU leather bag be released this year.

That being said, this is a gorgeous little bag that Wilson golf club fans will no doubt be eager to pair alongside their Wilson clubs. Well proportioned, neatly designed, comfortable and spacious, there is a lot to like about this surprise 2026 stand bag release.

The very best stand bag manufacturers on the market have decided that PU leather is back. Ever since Vessel's stable of Enter Ping, a brand that has already such classics as the Hoofer and, more recently, the Moonlander stand bags.

With so many of these types of bags now on the market, could the Reserve stand bag do enough to stand out from the crowd when I took it out onto the golf course?

The looks are as you'd expect. Clean and clear with no flashy prints or outrageous design features. For the time being, the Reserve is only available in Navy Blue or Black, but I'm sure more colours will follow soon.

There are some nice nods to Ping hidden in the design, like the Ping man logo stitched onto the rear of the bag and the metal Ping badge just above the ball pocket. Ping fans (and I am one of them) will appreciate these nods to the historied brand, and it's design elements like this that will make his bag stand out from the Vessels, Ogio and Big Max designs for people who are simply fans of Ping golf clubs.

Seven pockets in total give you plenty of storage options, which you would hope for from a bag that weighs in at 3kg (6.6lbs). That means it's not the best lightweight stand bag around, but most PU leather stand bags struggle to be lightweight because of the nature of the material.

The front ball pocket is very deep and magnetic, making access quick and easy. I do wish the slightly smaller pocket above it (which I used to leave loose tees and ball markers) was magnetic too, as this would've been the perfect spot to have a quick access rangefinder pocket.

I was a little frustrated at the lack of an exterior water bottle pocket, however. In the large side pocket, there is a pocket within that can hold a water bottle, but having to unzip a pocket to access a water bottle is a little frustrating, especially when considering pretty much every other stand bag I test has some kind of external water bottle pocket for easy access.

That being said, the Reserve does come with 14 litres of total volume, which is more than enough for a bag of this type.

Cleverly, the largest pocket on the right side of the bag is detachable, allowing you to shed weight from the bag if you don't plan on carrying a lot with you. This is a clever feature I've not seen on a bag of this type before. I've only ever seen something like this employed on the Ogio Fun Day bag, which is a much smaller Sunday bag and in a different category entirely.

This also has one of the most comfortable straps I've tested on any recent stand bags, too. It's well-padded and does a good job of evenly distributing the weight across your shoulders. It's convertible between a single and a double strap, too, which is a nice touch.

There are a lot of stand bags like this flooding the market now. With a few missing pockets, the Reserve doesn't quite do enough for me to beat the likes of the Vessel Player V, Wilson 1914, or Ogio Shadow stand bags. That being said, Ping fans will no doubt love the attention to detail and styling on this smart overall offering.

Now The Masters is out of the way, we’re entering the main golf season and for many, it’s time to get into the garage, blow the dust off the clubs and get out on the course.

It is around this time of year I’d treat myself to a golf-related kit update, be that a new pair of golf shoes, buying that club I was eyeing up the previous year and didn’t pull the trigger on or deciding to upgrade to a new golf bag. Titleist makes some of the best golf bags on the market and has unveiled its latest addition to the notable StaDry franchise for the 2026 season.

I scratched my golf itch by testing the bag over multiple rounds to see how it performed for those flirting with the idea of an upgrade for their golf bag - unsurprisingly, it didn’t disappoint.

Where to start? To quote our friends at Titleist directly, the Players S4 StaDry bag is built for “the golfer who prioritizes ease of use, accessibility, and doesn’t mind playing in wet conditions” - meaning I’m the perfect man to test it out.

First impressions were great. I opted for the khaki green colorway and think it looks brilliant. Previous StaDry bags have had a shiny finish to them which I have thought makes them look a bit cheap and flimsy - there are no such feelings with the 2026 model.

The new 4-way top divider is perfect and I’ll die on the hill that this is the best divider setup any bag could have - a wide section for your driver, woods and putter up top, two smaller dividers for your irons (I put 4-6 iron in one and 7-9 iron in the other) and a wider bottom divider for your wedges. Across multiple rounds, I didn’t have my clubs tangle once.

In the storage department, Titleist gets another big green tick. The external water bottle pocket means grabbing your drink while walking is easy, whilst the valuables pocket has a well designed canopy that helps keep the zip and components dry for when the rain comes. The main side pocket provides plenty of space, as do the main accessories pocket on the front and the ball pocket just above it.

I tested this bag on both the Championship Links and Annesley Course at Royal County Down and given the trends of Irish weather, it wasn’t long before I was battling against the rain. I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I didn’t brave the elements to test the waterproofing, which was superb.

However, the biggest green tick goes to the all-new stand system. I use the Titleist Linksmaster as my day-to-day golf bag, but the quality and stability of this stand system has led me to toy with the idea of keeping the StaDry as my ‘gamer’ bag. The moment you set your bag down on the fairway, the legs kick out effortlessly. The legs are sturdy and the bag sits at a lovely height once they are in place.

I’m a dedicated walker, so comfort levels when carrying are probably the most important thing I look for in a golf bag. I haven’t carried many bags more comfortable than this one - padding around the hips as well as the shoulders makes it a pleasant walking experience. For those who use trolleys or carts, the main carry handle on the bag doubles up as a cart strap tunnel to keep your bag secure while riding or pushing.

It’s a great bag, but it isn’t perfect. The $340 price tag means it is one of the most expensive golf bags on the market, but I can tell after a month of usage that this bag will last you many years to come - a common theme for the best Titleist golf bags.

If I were to be ultra fussy, there are a few quality of life changes I would love to see in future models. Another zip on the main front pouch would have been a great addition, as would a magnetic zipper on the ball pouch above that I’ve seen on a number of bags.

To conclude, this bag does just about everything you could want from your golf stand bag, the only thing being you’ll have to pay a premium price for it. Is it worth it? Honestly, I think so - especially in the long run.

Last fall, I took a look at what was then the new RevCore Hybrid Stand Bag from CaddyDaddy Golf, the same company that’s been making a super durable golf glove for the past few years. My conclusion was that the RevCore bags were a tremendous value (all priced under $300) with a look and feel of golf bags that cost substantially more.

Now, CaddyDaddy is introducing a new generation of its RevCore Hybrid stand bag, and there’s one major difference, and it’s a big one. It’s the material, and until you see it and feel it, it’s hard to appreciate.

The latest offering features a 14-way top and, more importantly, a new ScratchGuard synthetic leather that covers the bag. It's super soft, super durable, and looks really nice, too. Most importantly, perhaps, is that it’s scratch and scuff-resistant.

According to co-founder Rod Dunlap, “It’s night and day compared to typical PU leather.”

He said he took sandpaper to swatches of the new material compared to the old material, as well as other brands, and this new ScratchGuard is far superior. “I couldn't believe how amazing it is, and super soft, too,” he said.

So when I got mine to test, the first thing I did, of course, was compare the two bags and feel the new material. And yes, the ScratchGuard is much softer and has a feel like no other bag I’ve ever tried. It’s almost like a fine leather or suede jacket, comfortable from the get-go. But no, I didn’t take sandpaper to it. I’m sure it has its limits. But after playing a few rounds with it, both on a powered cart and push cart, I see no signs of wear so far. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds up in a year or two, but my first impression is that this bag is very durable.

On top of that, if you do carry this bag like you would the best golf stand bags, it simply feels comfortable. Not that its predecessor wasn’t, but the soft material makes for an easy carry as long as you don’t overload it. At 6.8 pounds, it’s plenty light for toting, but I think it really shines on a push cart or powered cart.

This new version of the Hybrid stand bag is a little more expensive than its predecessor at $329, but it’s still significantly less than its competitors like the Ghost Golf Andyday ($415) and the Vessel Player V.

With that said, the Vessel bag does have one more magnetic pocket and a cart strap pass-through. And while I’m a fan of the strap pass-throughs, the RevCore bag really doesn’t need it because the upper pockets are low enough that they are not impeded by a cart strap. But I wouldn’t mind seeing another magnetic pocket on the RevCore Hybrid.

The RevCore bag does, however, have a magnetic pocket, perfect for a rangefinder. I wouldn’t buy a bag without one, especially if I walked, because I want to be able to access my rangefinder quickly and put it back without having to zip a pocket (or forgetting to zip and having the rangefinder fall out).

Like its predecessor, the new RevCore Hybrid Stand Bag has seven external pockets, three of which are zippered. One is waterproof and lined with felt. It also has two cooler pockets that drain, and there are also two internal pockets, one mesh and the other felt-lined.

As for the 14-way top, the biggest challenge is how to arrange your clubs. The RevCore bag features a large slot at the top ideal for a mallet putter, then 13 more full-length dividers for your other clubs. I found that when I used the bag on the powered cart, it was better to put my shorter clubs close to the putter well for easier access, but if I used a push cart or carried it, I put the woods by the putter well.

Finally, another nice touch is that the bag comes with two straps - a double strap for carrying and a single strap if you’re simply carrying the bag from your car to a golf cart or trolley. You can easily store the single strap once you’ve mounted the bag on the cart, providing a much cleaner look and easier access to the pockets.

The bag also comes with a large rain hood, pencil holder, and velcro glove holder. It has an ergonomic rubber handle, black nickel alloy hardware and zippers, and heavenly padded straps. And it currently comes in three colors – matte black, winter white, and deep grey. So if you’re looking for a bag that looks expensive, but isn’t, with tons of features, the RevCore 14-Way Hybrid Stand Bag fits the bill.

There is a growing movement in golf toward simplicity. Whether it’s the rise of short-course architecture or the desire for a quick nine holes before the sun sets, golfers are increasingly looking to ditch the heavy stand bags in favour of something altogether more nimble. Enter the Flushd Rangr (the last vowel of each word has been left out deliberately, please don't chase me for spelling errors), a Sunday bag designed for the minimalist who still wants to make a statement.

Upon first glance, the Rangr is undeniably striking, if incredibly similar to the Sunday Golf Loma XL and Lyle & Scott Gleneagle bags I tested in 2024. All three of these bags have the same design, down to the precise pocket placement. Obviously, all three are from the same factory (which is not a huge rarity in this industry). Unfortunately, Flushd didn't maintain one key similarity to these bags, and somehow made it worse. More on this later...

While many traditional manufacturers tend to play it safe with navy, black, and the occasional splash of red, Flushd has leaned into a vibrant, contemporary palette. These bold colour options are a breath of fresh air. That being said, Ogio's Funday Sunday bag comes in some even more unique patterns, so Flushd isn't alone here.

But aesthetics only get you so far; a bag has to perform on the walk. In this department, the Rangr initially shines. Tipping the scales at a mere 2.5 lbs, it is one of the lightest options on the market. When you’re walking a hilly par-3 course or squeezing in a quick loop after work, every ounce matters. The weight - or lack thereof - makes it an absolute joy to carry.

This portability is further enhanced by a surprisingly decent set of shoulder straps. Often, Sunday bags skimp on ergonomics to save weight, resulting in straps that dig in and are more obstructive than they are helpful. Flushd has avoided this trap, providing enough padding to ensure the bag sits comfortably across the back. It balances well, stays stable during the walk, and won't leave you reaching for the Ibuprofen by the time you reach the 18th green.

Storage is another area where the Rangr punches above its weight. Usually, 'minimalist' is code for 'nowhere to put your jacket', but the pockets here have been intelligently considered. There is ample room for a handful of balls, your tees, a glove, and even a dedicated spot for a water bottle. It’s clear that Flushd thought about the reality of a nine-hole round; everything you actually need has a home, without the unnecessary bulk of a full-sized stand bag.

However, for all its style and ergonomic success, the Rangr stumbles significantly when it comes to the fundamental task of a golf bag: holding golf clubs.

The divider system is, unfortunately, where the Rangr falls short of its direct rivals, the aforementioned Sunday Golf, Lyle & Scott and Ogio bags. In the modern game, midsize and jumbo grips have become the standard for many, and oversized putter grips are ubiquitous. If you use anything other than standard-diameter grips, the Rangr becomes a tight squeeze, to put it mildly. Even with standard grips, six clubs (including putter) seem to be the absolute maximum.

During testing, I found that with a large putter grip in the mix, the bag struggled to accommodate more than five clubs comfortably. This is a major drawback. While a Sunday bag isn't meant to hold 14 clubs, the inability to easily slide a half-set (7-8 clubs) in and out because of a cramped divider is frustrating. Compared to rivals the Rangr feels incomparably worse in terms of internal real estate. If you’re a golfer who likes to carry a wedge set and a couple of irons for a practice loop, you may find yourself wrestling with your equipment more than playing with it.

At its competitive price point, the Rangr remains an attractive entry-level option for those who prioritise weight and style above all else. If it's just a bag for the driving range you seek (perhaps hinted at by its name), you'll have a much better time of it, in my opinion. That being said, £80 feels like a lot for a bag just to take to the driving range. If you use standard grips and only ever carry a wood, a couple of irons, and a putter, it’s a brilliant, cost-effective companion. But for the serious minimalist who demands functionality alongside flair, the cramped divider might be a dealbreaker.

Whenever a brand as historic as MacGregor puts all of its experience and insight into creating a hybrid golf bag, you know it's going to provide an excellent result - and that is very much true regarding the Tourney Hybrid stand bag.

Capable of being used in either a golf cart or on your shoulders, the Tourney bag is packed full of helpful features which make your life out on the course as easy as possible, and make it one of the best stand bags we've recently tested. From the 14-way divider to the special cooler pouch and the Velcro golf-glove patch, I was thoroughly impressed with so much during multiple trips out.

Firstly, I know 14-way club dividers can split opinion across the golfing sphere, but I enjoyed my maiden experience of a bag with this option.

The club divider in the MacGregor Tourney is spread out across 10 inches and gives my clubs more than enough room to be placed in neatly or taken out without crashing into the others. And, as someone who loves their golf equipment and apparel to be as organized as possible, this earned a huge tick from me.

Moving on to another vital aspect of a good golf bag, the level of efficient storage in the MacGregor Tourney was great to see. The full-length apparel pocket down the side was capable of hiding a full change of outfit as well as a couple of snacks, and the depth of the golf ball pouch in particular was incredibly deep (which is ideal for someone like me).

Additionally, the cooler pocket was a fantastic feature which ensured my liquid refreshments stayed at the appropriate temperature for as long as I needed, and the range-finder pocket could safely store several DMDs if necessary.

Occasionally, with other bags, such an impressive rate of storage can lead to a more fragile skeleton overall, but I certainly did not find this to be the case with the MacGregor Tourney with an incredibly stable body overall.

If there were a small handful of drawbacks with the bag, it would be that certain materials don't feel that premium and others aren't as efficient in wet weather as you might hope.

The rain hood, in particular, is quite flimsy, and the valuables pocket could potentially be slightly larger. Plus, the bag was a little more difficult to slot into a golf trolley than other models I've tested, although it fitted into a golf cart with no issues whatsoever.

I would also argue that the overall aesthetic of the MacGregor Tourney struggles to compete with the upper echelons of its competition. But, then again, the subject of looks is always so subjective and - given there are five different colorways available - you are likely to find one that suitably impresses.

Returning to the amazing levels of practicality, though, the MacGregor Tourney was perfectly comfortable to carry for a full round thanks to the padded shoulder straps and hip area combined with the ergonomic shape of the main body.

It's light, too, weighing just 2kg/4.65lbs. That's really helpful if you're likely to load dozens of golf balls into that ultra-deep pocket I mentioned earlier.

Its zips were really easy to use thanks to the keyring-shaped pulleys, which made opening and closing pockets on colder days that little but easier - and that's always appreciated.

Overall, I feel like the MccGregor Tourney Hybrid is probably appropriate for someone who might not play golf all that regularly and who doesn't need all of the fancy add-ons a seasoned player would benefit from.

It's incredibly practical and ticks so many boxes that I think you could easily forgive it for leaving something to be desired in terms of aesthetics. Either way, at such a modest price point, the downsides are barely worth considering, and the MacGregor Tourney would be well worth the purchase.

I’ve long held the opinion that Vessel makes the best golf bags in the industry right now, bar none. Whether it’s the lightweight Sunday III, super-premium Player V or the Tour bag used by Tiger Woods, Vessel has carved out a niche in the ultra-premium bag market. I’ve been using the Sunday III as my go-to carry bag in the summer for the last two years, and have loved the mixture of practicality and luxury that Vessel brings. The Lux Looper is designed to be a little bigger than the Sunday III, but still a comfortable and easy carry. I was eager to get it out on the golf course to see.

Life with the Lux Looper started well. Vessel’s signature clean look and premium materials make this a highly desirable object. If you’re into accessorising your bag with funky headcovers and towels, this is the perfect blank canvas to let your personality show. The plush finish on the shoulder straps and dividers, the magnet opening of the rangefinder pocket and two water battle pockets, and the real-leather zippers make this bag feel like you’ve got every penny’s worth of your investment.

There’s plenty of room for a full set of clubs thanks to the 4-way divider. I often carry a full set of 14, plus and 15th practice club and alignment sticks all at one, and the Lux Pro showed no evidence of club crowding.

It’s comfortable to carry too, sitting perfectly on the shoulders and bag, all ably supported by well-padded and well-fitted shoulder straps that have been built with an excellent amount of cushioning. You can use either the EQ2 double strap (which cleverly self-adjusts as you walk to balance weight) or the padded single strap, if that is more your vibe.

The hip padding has been cleverly made a lot more streamlined than on previous Vessel models I've tested. It makes for a much for streamlined look than most other stand bags - which have protruding padding - while still offering excellent comfort as you walk.

It’s not the most lightweight stand bag either, coming in at 3.4kg (7.4lbs). Though not officially a hybrid stand bag - a category of bag that can be used as a stand or cart bag interchangeably - I used the Lux Pro a couple of times on my Motocaddy QB2 with no hassle. The base fits universally onto any trolley mount, the legs can be neatly tied down, and the straps can be so easily attached and detached that the Lux Pro can be turned into a mini cart bag of sorts very quickly.

With all this in mind, what’s this bag’s fatal flaw holding it back from perfection? There’s no full-length pocket. This means nowhere to carry extra apparel, squeeze in a sandwich, or carry any of the other detritus golfers (especially me) like to carry around. There are two pockets placed low and on the side of the bag, both about the size of an A4 piece of paper, which could just about squeeze a light midlayer, but you really have to screw it up to fit it in.

Above these two pockets are two valuables-sized pockets, which are well placed, but can only really hold a phone and a wallet in each. I do like the two very front pockets, the front of which is for balls and the back I’ve used to hold a rangefinder for easy access. This pocket also has internal dividers, making organisation that bit easier - one of many clever touches across the bag. Despite this, storage isn’t the Lux Pro’s strong suit, and this bag is for the golfer who carries the bare minimum on the course. In the month I’ve been testing this bag, I’ve had to use a playing partner’s bags to carry my waterproofs and lunch - not ideal.

If you’re lucky enough to be playing regularly in conditions where you know you never need an extra layer, then this flaw doesn’t affect you, and you can enjoy all of the great things about this bag. However, if you’re always carrying around extra clothing, this bag simply isn’t for you.

Vessel - which is based out of California - has obviously made this bag for the fair-weather golfer in mind, and that is fine. With that in mind, perhaps testing this bag across the start of autumn in the UK has given the Lux Pro an unfair hand, seeing as it isn’t made for these conditions.

This is still a gorgeous bag with all of the great details you’d expect from a product designed and produced by Vessel. Vessel bags are clearly designed by seasoned golfers, and every bit of attention to detail has been taken care of on the Lux Looper. All Vessel golf bags fill something of a niche; however, this feels like a niche within a niche to me. If you’re looking to indulge in a Vessel stand bag, I’d point you in the direction of a couple of other options before the Lux Looper. That being said, if you feel you fit the niche this bag fills, you will undoubtedly enjoy every moment of this luxurious, somewhat decadent and certainly beautiful stand bag.

A few years ago, I tried the super durable Claw gloves from CaddyDaddy Golf. Made with synthetic suede and a mesh top, they’re tacky and tough. And they’re also washable. You can get at least 30 rounds from them, not something many of the best golf gloves can boast.

What I didn’t know is that CaddyDaddy had been making bags for a while. A couple of years ago, however, the company decided to up its game in the bag department with the RevCore line.

According to co-founder Rod Dunlap, the idea was to compete in the luxury bag department with a product that retails for significantly less than its competitors. And that’s just what it has done with its RevCore, which includes an LT Lightweight Stand Bag, the Cart Bag, and the new Hybrid Lux Stand Bag (which is one I tested).

“After seeing some of the success by other players in the market at $400-$500 price points, we set out to build high-end bags with superior attributes at more obtainable prices,” Dunlap said. “We’ve produced a variety of different golf bags over the years, but the RevCore line was our first foray into the lux bag segment. I think leveraging our longevity in the golf business and design experience has really helped us produce a solid option against some of the newer brands.”

Suggested retail on the three are $219, and $299, and $249 respectively. By comparison, premium hybrid bags like the Vessel Player V lists at $439, and the Ghost Golf AnyDay is $419. So how does the RevCore Hybrid compare?

Pretty favorably. And here’s why.

First, it looks great. The one I tested is covered with a soft, “deep grey” simulated foam-backed leather, black accents, and oversized black nickel alloy zippers. Everything about its appearance says it should cost more than it does - I'd put it among the best golf bags for looks alone.

The Hybrid is available in two tops, a six-way divider, or a 14-way divider. The one I tested was a six-way with velour dividers, and I found that the clubs went in and out of it easily.

Like the best golf stand bags, it has a lot of storage space – seven external pockets, three of which are zippered, one of which is waterproof and lined with felt. There’s also a lined magnetic rangefinder pocket, which is a super important feature when you carry or walk with a push cart, when it’s most critical to be able to access and replace your distance device quickly during the round.

The RevCore Hybrid bag also has two cooler pockets that drain, which means you can put ice and drinks in it. When you live in a hot climate like I do, that’s another great feature.

There are also two internal pockets, one of which is mesh and the other felt-lined. The latter is a great place to hide your wallet and/or jewelery. A towel clip that works as a bottle opener and velcro glove attachment are also nice touches.

While the bag weighs around seven pounds, it works well as a carry bag as long as you don’t load it down too much. But that’s true with the best lightweight golf bags, if you think about it.

The double strap system was comfortable and balanced the load well, but I would rate the Vessel stand bags as a little more comfortable in that department. If you don’t carry your own clubs, however, the CaddyDaddy comes with an optional single strap, which is probably the way to go when you’re using a powered cart or push cart. Once your bag is mounted, you can take the single strap off and store it in the bag until you’re done playing, which makes for a really clean appearance when using a cart.

There is no cart strap pass-through, which is a feature I’ve come to appreciate on some of the best bags on the market. The cart straps on powered carts didn’t hinder the pockets too much, but on my own push cart, the strap did interfere a little with the upper pockets.

Another nice feature – which you also see in the best Vessel bags like the Player V – is a protective neoprene cart strap sleeve to protect your bag from getting wear marks when using it on a cart.

The bag also comes with a large and effective rain hood, but it does take up a good bit of room if you store it in the bag while playing.

The bottom line is that if you’re looking for a premium bag for under $300, this might be your best option. It looks like a more expensive bag, has lots of features, is well-balanced, and works well as a carry or cart bag.

I've tested a handful of these types of bags now - like the Motocaddy EliteFlex and Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Prime - and think I've cracked the exact type of golfer these bags are for. They're a niche category, but Sun Mountain’s new offering is one of the few lightweight and fully waterproof options in this space.

To me, a hybrid golf bag is for the golfer who uses a trolley or ride-on cart 80% of the time, but does have the want or need to carry their bag the other 20% of the time. The hybrid bag allows this type of golfer to buy one type of golf bag, instead of having to buy one of the best stand bags and one of the best cart bags at the same time.

So, why this Sun Mountain? I’ve always banged this drum, but I think Sun Mountain make the best waterproof bags in the business. All the seams on the bag are taped and sealed to prevent water in, while the fabric is treated for water resistance on both sides, not just the outside, like some. If waterproofing is high on your list of wants, I’d always recommend one of the best Sun Mountain bags.

Another unique addition to this bag is the VLO technology. This is the area of the bag where, when using a trolley, the top handle attaches to the bag. Sun Mountain has lowered the stand system and developed a specific area of the bag built to withstand the strain of a trolley handle. Whereas other hybrid bags lower the stand system, few take time to reinforce this area, like Sun Mountain has. It certainly makes the punchy £369 RRP a little more bearable, considering the superb build quality of this bag.

When you use this as a conventional stand bag instead of a cart bag, it also excels. At 2.6kg, it’s one of the more lightweight bags in this category, and the padding on the straps and hip pad is superb. The soft, spongy materials used take strain away from your shoulders and make sure the bag doesnt rub against your back as you carry it.

All in all, I can’t fault what this bag offers. Yes, it’s a niche type of golf bag, but it has absolutely nailed everything it has tried to set out. Excellent waterproofing, dedicated areas that allow it to sit perfectly on a trolley and a lightweight build with excellent padding that makes it as easy to carry. Yes, it's expensive, but having tested this over several rounds, I think it is worth every penny to the dedicated golfer who plays all year round.

I've tested a handful of these types of bags now and think I've cracked the exact type of golfer these bags are for. They're a niche category, but Motocaddy's new offering in this space is one of the best examples I've tested to date.

To me, a hybrid golf bag is for the golfer who uses a trolley or ride-on cart 80% of the time, but does have the want or need to carry their bag the other 20% of the time. The hybrid bag allows this type of golfer to buy one type of golf bag, instead of having to buy one of the best stand bags and one of the best cart bags at the same time.

These styles of bags are characterised by a few key features, all of which the new Motocaddy EliteFlex has. The first is a 14-way divider and, being a premium-built bag, the EliteFlex boasts velour lining in this section. I broadly like the velour lining on this part of the bag. It adds a real premium feel to the build, which also does a great job at protecting clubs and stopping any shaft rub. However, if this part of the bag gets wet, the velour loses some of its soft feel and will make the bag that little heavier. Luckily, there's a handy rain cover included with the EliteFlex to protect this area of the bag in poor weather.

The next two key features are the quick-release straps and the leg lock. These two features allow the bag to be quickly and seamlessly turned from a stand bag to a cart bag, and vice versa. I was really impressed with how quickly the straps can be taken off and reapplied, and there is no fuss in turning the EliteFlex between its various guises as two different bags. When you are carrying the bag, the straps are comfortable, well-padded and feature plenty of adjustability to get it sitting just right.

That being said, this is a very heavy stand bag versus the competition. If you're primarily a walking golfer, this is not the bag for you. If you walk more than 80% of the time, one of the best lightweight stand bags is the route to go down. The EliteFlex weighs 3.4kg with the straps on, which is 2kg heavier than the likes of the Titleist Players 4 Carbon or TaylorMade FlexTech Superlite, so bear this in mind when you do use it as a stand bag.

The storage is superb, as one might hope for in a bag of this size. In total there are five pockets, with my favourite being the magnetic ball pocket. Magnetic ball pockets add a touch of class to any bag, so I'm glad Motocaddy added one here alongside the magnetic closing water bottle pocket on the side of the bag too. Elsewhere, a full-length pocket down the side can store apparel while the valuables pocket is fully waterproof, unlike the rest of the pockets on the bag. Such is the amount of storage, some might even see this as an out-and-out cart bag, one that is far more compact than some of the much larger cart bags you see nowadays.

What makes the EliteFlex really stand out is the EasiLok base. Using the two pins on the bottom of the base, this bag can lock into the base of any Motocaddy trolley and sit securely without the need for a bottom bungee strap. If you don't have a Motocaddy trolley, the base is still shaped to fit on pretty much any brand of trolley, it's just that the pins are ideal for using with a Motocaddy trolley.

This EasiLok base makes this bag a homerun for golfers who already have (or who are thinking of investing in) one of many trolleys in Motocaddy's push, electric and remote range. While I can see some who might be persuaded into the EliteFlex who don't have a Motocaddy trolley, this bag will certainly appeal to those who already are in the Motocaddy ecosystem.

Ultimately, this is a very niche golf bag. Made for the golfers who need a carry bag every now and again and who already own or will own one of the best Motocaddy trolleys, this bag isn't for everyone. However, if you do fall into this category or are just charmed by the quality and practicality of this bag, it is one of the best examples of its type. Plenty of pocket space, easy to adjust and remove straps, premium details all over and a subtle look, the EliteFlex is another feather in Motocaddy's ever-expanding cap.

When it comes to golf bags, you’d be unwise to not include Wilson in the conversation. So, when I had the opportunity to test out its new Talus 14 carry bag, it was hard to say no. Looks wise, you can’t dislike anything about its design. Its clean yet premium look makes it easy on the eye whilst its functionality mirrors this, showcasing the high quality of the product. And if you’re a bit picky on color, there are five different options to choose from. I was able to test the red and white version, and for someone who doesn’t typically own a lot of this color combination, I was surprised by how quickly it grew on me.

Aesthetics are not the main reason you buy a golf bag though. It's about performance, and this didn’t let me down. The Wilson Talus 14 is one of the best executions we've seen of the hybrid golf bag design, seamlessly catering to both walkers and cart users. Weighing in at 2.6kg, it couldn't be classed as one of the best lightweight golf bags, although it wasn’t too heavy to lift in and out of the car or carry around the course either. This weight also adds to its robustness and versatility.

Amongst the features I enjoyed the most were the vast amount of storage, durable alloy legs for long-lasting performance, and its extremely comfortable pass-through strap channel, which was easily adjustable.

There are nine external pockets (including one open pocket) meaning you will never struggle to find space for all of your golf essentials. When I trialled the bag, I took out both a gilet and overtop with me and placed them in the full-length zipper pocket and I still had space for other items, which is not the case for all of the best stand bags. There is a rangefinder pocket featuring a magnetic opening and fleece lining which was also impressive. This offers golfers a different and safer alternative to placing your rangefinder, instead of maybe attaching it to a ring on the bag.

My favorite pocket though was the large hip pad side pocket for immediate access. The only negative was that it didn't have a zip, so if it did rain this pocket would not be the most functional. However, with the light rain I encountered during my testing, the bag's materials, zip, and rain hood did an excellent job in repelling poor weather plus there is a fully waterproof valuables pocket if you want to store items like your phone more securely.

The best golf bags on the market all try to be as functional as possible and Wilson’s self-activating stand, which uses long alloy legs, is no different. It creates the perfect stable base when perched on mounds or hills on the course and whilst testing the bag, I found no issues with the bag falling over at an angle or collapsing when activated to stand up. A convenient towel ring which I used for my towel and club brush, and the use of premium YKK zippers were perfect for easy access and reliability and were eye-catching features.

Another thing I found very useful was its 14-way divider design. For someone like me who is a little bit OCD and likes an organized bag, this was perfect. I was easily able to find the club I wanted to use because each club had its own identifiable space. If you have a tendency for leaving a club around the green on the previous hole, it's clearly noticeable when something is missing from your bag, hopefully meaning you're less likely to leave a club behind.

An overriding thought I had throughout my time using this bag was value for money. Retailing at £209, this is certainly not one of the most expensive golf bags on the market. However, its quality is not lacking, and I think this is a bargain when you consider all of what the Talus 14 has to offer. Finding a bag that looks good but also provides reliable quality is hard to come by. But I think Wilson has nailed it here and you should definitely not overlook this bag if you are thinking of freshening up your look for 2025.

Big Max makes quality push carts, golf bags and accessories and are one of the market leaders in Europe for those products. I admit, anytime I have been asked to test and review any Big Max product I have been impressed by the quality and functionality and the Dri Lite Silencio Prime is no exception to this.

While testing over multiple rounds anyone who saw the bag asked who made it and were surprised it was a Big Max, which traditionally has more bold and brash branding. The Silencio is understated and sleek looking. I really loved the Off-White Color I tested and it is my favorite out of the three colors available: Taupe and Black.

Let’s get to performance, the club divider section has 14 slots where your clubs can sit that protects each individual club, it even has a larger slot for a putter with an oversized grip. As the name suggests you won’t hear a peep of club rattle. This style of club divider is not what I would usually go for because…it is not seen as very cool, like having iron covers isn’t seen as cool.

Us golfers are meant to spend thousands of pounds on clubs and then let them rattle and bash around like we don’t care, madness really! As someone who spends on protective casing for all my gadgets, I can now say I am a convert to this style of club divider. I don’t care if that’s cool of me, which makes me…cool.

Another aspect of this bag I was very impressed with was the storage, the 12 pockets cater to every whim a golfer may have, including a waterproof valuables pocket, a large cooler pocket which is perfect for big water bottle fans out there, dedicated pockets for rain gear and holders for an umbrella, glove and tees. What made the storage even better though was the flexibility of the pockets, the SoftGuard PU vegan leather is as the name suggests soft and flexible and not stiff and rigid like some cart bag pockets can be.

Lastly you don’t have to worry at all about opting for a lighter color because the material is easily wiped clean, meaning this is a bag that can be used all year round and kept looking like new. Yes, it is on the pricier side but for all the benefits, it’s worth it, so go on, treat yourself!

The best Sunday bags are ideal for golfers who only carry half a set, need a lightweight bag to take to the driving range with them or like something as minimal as possible on their back while they play golf. There was a quiet period for this genre bag at the start of the 2020s, with very few new models being released. However, it appears the growing popularity of golf has increased the demand for a Sunday bag, and more and more brands are meeting that demand.

Having also tested the Sunday Golf Loma XL, I can confirm the Gleneagle is the exact same bag, just with some new Lyle & Scott branding on it. ‘They’ve rebadged it, you fool’, Alan Partridge famously said, and nothing could be more true about the Gleneagle. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great Sunday bag, mind you. I gave the Loma XL the full five stars, so the Gleneagle deserves all of the same praise, too.

There are so many clever storage solutions on this bag that make it perfect for carrying a half set. I've used it to carry seven or eight clubs, and I'd say this is the absolute maximum, as introducing a ninth club introduces a lot of club crowding. Seven is the perfect number for this bag, in my opinion, the perfect half set that can be evenly spread across the 3-way divider at the top of the bag.

The insulated cooler pocket is an especially nice touch and not one you see very often on Sunday bags. It only holds a small bottle, but it will keep it at the desired temperature thanks to the insulation on the inside of the pocket. The valuables pocket is pretty large for a bag of this size, too. The website says it's velour-lined, but there's nowhere near as much as on the Loma XL. There's an external netting area, which I used for quick access to my rangefinder, but it's a storage solution you can put anything in for your round of golf, whether that be balls, tees or another water bottle. Finally, a Velcro patch leaves you an area to conveniently store your glove between shots. It's incredibly well organised and thought out.

Having now tested a few more Sunday bags since I got my hands on the Loma XL, I must say that I much prefer the smaller legs I tested on the Ogio Funday and the Callaway Par 3 HD. They give the bag a much slimmer profile, and the full-size legs on such a small bag like the Gleneagle look a bit out of proportion versus a Sunday bag with smaller legs.

What the Gleneagle does have over some other Sunday bags is a double strap. It's not the most padded carry strap in the world, but then again, the bag should never really be heavy enough to warrant extra padding on the shoulders. Though only a one-strap bag, the Ogio Funday has a much more padded strap and hip pad, if this is something you prefer.

Like I said, this is the same as the Sunday Golf Loma XL, but with a new look. There are four colourways to choose from in total, including an almond colourway identical to the Loma XL I tested last year. It's as good as a Sunday bag can get, in my opinion. I'll give the edge to the Loma XL as it came first (and I prefer the branding), but this is, of course, subjective, and you may prefer the way the Lyle & Scott is designed. Either way, this is a cleverly designed and well-executed Sunday bag that ticks all of the boxes for a stand bag of this type.

In an effort to create more premium, sleek stand bags, we've seen an ever-growing trend of brands using leather or synthetic PU leather as the primary material. The likes of the Ogio Shadow, Vessel Player V and Stitch SL2 have all been released in the last 12 months, and I'm seeing more and more stand bags of this type appear on golf courses around the country.

All of these examples are out-and-out stand bags, and while they could be used on a trolley, they aren't optimal for that use. So, introducing the Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Prime, a stand bag with all of the features and materials one some of the best quality stand bags on the market, that is at home on your back as it is on the chassis of one of the best push carts or electric trolleys.

The bag utilises a 14-way divider. I'm really not a fan of 14-way dividers on stand bags as they tend to make them unnecessarily bulky, but I'll give the Big Max a pass on this occasion as the bag is designed to be carried or used on a cart, where 14-way dividers are more commonly found. The 9-inch top does make the bag quite large versus the rest of the market. This is great for storage (more on that later), but it does make the bag quite bulky when you opt to carry it. Even when it isn't packed to its fullest, it's one of the heavier stand bags available.

What makes it better on a trolley or cart than other stand bags is the lowered stand, trolley-compatible floor, leg lock system and easily detachable straps. In a few short seconds, your large stand bag turns into a compact cart bag that fits on any trolley with ease. If you're the type of golfer who often flits between carrying and using a trolley, this really is a superb option for you.

The material used on the bag has an impressive number of qualities, other than looking smart. It's easy to clean, scratch resistant and temperature-resistant (so it won't fade in the sun). It looks as good in person as it does in the images, and it feels premium to the touch, too. That includes everything from the quality of the zips, padding on the straps and the materials used in the dividers, which do a great job of protecting shafts from rubbing.

Storage is impressive. Every Big Max bag I've tested has a very well thought-out selection of pockets, and this is no different. One of the best touches of detail is that the valuables pocket has dividers within it to keep valuables like keys and phones separate from each other. Another part of the bag I enjoyed using was the cooler pocket, which is so big that I can fit my whole arm in it.

I think this is an excellent stand bag. The quality is right up there with the best, and it solves a real problem for those golfers who carry and use a trolley regularly. If you carry 90% of the time, or use a trolley 90% of the time, I'd point you in the direction of a more specialist bag for walkers and trolley users, but those who flit between the two will be very well served by this well-designed and well-executed golf bag.

While some may think cart bags are much of a muchness, there is still plenty of design effort and differentiation on the market to make finding the best cart bag for you a tough task.

In truth, most people will only buy a PowaKaddy cart bag if they also buy a PowaKaddy golf trolley to match, but I think the brand's new Dri Tech should be considered by anyone looking to replace a cart bag who doesn't own a Motocaddy or Stewart.

I say this because it's one of the best waterproof cart bags I've tested. It's incredibly lightweight for a cart bag at 2.3kg, and the waterproof materials are up there with the very best. I would always recommend golfers
(especially in the UK) opting for a fully waterproof bag, as it keeps you covered all year round and in all weather situations. Those who use cart bags often carry a lot with them on the golf course, so it's best to keep that all safe in any weather conditions.

There's also plenty of space in the bag's nine pockets. It has two full-length apparel pockets (which I always see as a minimum for cart bags) as well as a velour-lined valuables pocket and a dedicated insulated cooler pocket, to name a few more. What's more, the 14-way divider at the top of the bag is spacious, and I experienced no club crowding with a full set. There's also a dedicated putter well that can accommodate even the largest of putter grips, which is a nice touch.

A new feature across all PowaKaddy cart bags is Mag-Lok. This technology utilises a magnet on the bottom of any new PowaKaddy trolley to securely lock the base of the bag into the base of the trolley without the need for a bottom bungee strap

If you have a PowaKaddy trolley, I see no reason whatsoever not to also invest in a PowaKaddy bag that allows you to benefit from this new technology - it makes day-to-day use of the bag and trolley easier, and it looks much more cohesive too.

Overall, this is a superb cart bag. Lightweight, fully waterproof and with plenty of space, those with a PowaKaddy trolley simply have to invest in a corresponding bag and those who use any other electric or push trolley should seriously consider this as an option.

It's said that the Sunday bag got its name because, when caddies didn't work on a Sunday, players would have to carry their bags and wanted them as lightweight as possible. It is a bag designed to carry the bare essentials only. Half a set of clubs at most, some tees, some balls and a water bottle. They're pretty much the same as the best pencil bags, and offer an ideal carrying solution for golfers who only play half a set or want to sneak out for a relaxed evening nine holes of golf. Ogio's new Sunday bag - playfully named Funday - has hit that brief but with clever new additions that add even more practicality.

For Funday, Ogio has added two modular pockets that allow you to customise your storage needs. A full-length Velcro strip along the side of the bag allows you to add and take away the modular water bottle and accessories pocket and reattach it to any part of that Velcro strip you'd like. Don't need to carry a waterproof with you? Take off the accessories pocket. Don't need a water bottle for this round? Take that off, too. You can then add and rearrange these modular pockets to suit whatever needs for storage you have ahead of your round. I love this idea, and it has been executed perfectly by the team at Ogio. It makes the Sunday bag that little more practical when you need it, or as bare bones as possible when you just need a handful of clubs and balls.

The pockets that are built into the bag include a front pocket for balls and tees, which has a stretchy band to store tees and pencils in the front, a netted water bottle pocket (though I used this for a rangefinder), and a Velcro patch to which you can attach your glove. This is all you'll really need in the majority, but it's great to have those modular pockets as and when you need them. I used the bag to walk around Sunningdale Heath, but have also used it regularly at the driving range when I want to use a handful of clubs - it's a surprisingly versatile bag for regular golfers.

Some Sunday bags I've tried have often sacrificed comfort in the strap and hip pad in order to save weight, but Ogio has managed to keep the bag incredibly lightweight (just 3lbs) while still making sure that the strap and hip pads offer the sort of comfort you'd expect from the best stand bags. The moulded shoulder and hip pads are brilliant and offer that extra bit of padding every golf bag should have, regardless of the weight. The small legs at the top keep the bag out of the dirt when you set it down, though these don't extend automatically like a standard stand bag.

Elsewhere, the two-way top divider can comfortably carry seven clubs, and I've even had as many as nine (including a putter with a larger grip), so it more than fulfils its job as a half set bag. Interestingly, each divider (no matter which colour you go for) is individually water-dipped, meaning each is a one-of-a-kind pattern unique to each bag. It's a cool effect to look at, and knowing it's one of a kind is another classy touch on a bag that is covered in classy touches.

Speaking of colour, the bag you can see here is the Tropical Punch colourway (which I am a huge fan of), but you can also opt for Magnolia and Wave Camo to name a couple. There are also some funky patterned options like the limited edition Rocket Pops or, if you prefer a more understated bag, an all-black version will suit you. For me, though, a bag that symbolises everything fun about carrying a half set (and literally being called Funday) calls for a loud pattern or colourway.

I can barely fault this brilliant little bag. Those in the market for a bag that can carry a half set need look no further, in my opinion. Though there are many other options like the Sunday Golf Loma XL or Callaway Par 3 HD bags, I would recommend the Funday ahead of both of these for its superb functionality and excellent colour options. It's come at a time where Ogio keep producing hit after hit with the likes of the premium Shadow stand bag, unique Silencer cart bag, and functional Fuse stand bag all proving hits to the testers at the Golf Monthly team. The Funday is the epitome of clever design and functionality produced by a company that really understands how to craft an excellent golf bag.

I've been reliably told by my more senior colleagues that the best Ping golf bags were the bag to be seen with back in the 1990s. The Ping Hoofer was especially trendy, according to some, and is still one of the best stand bags in 2025. I've only tested the Hoofer before, so I was exicted to take delivery of this ultra-lightweight new offering from Ping, the charmingly named Moonlander.

This bag is certainly one for the dedicated walking golfer. It is superbly lightweight at just 4.5 lbs (2kg) and comes with an excellent double strap. That being said, it's not the lightest bag that can carry all 14 clubs that we've tested, with the crown still belonging to the TaylorMade FlexTech SuperLite and Titleist Players 4 Carbon at 1.4kg each. However, I think the pocket space has been more thoughtfully executed on the Moonlander than these aforementioned bags. There isn't a conventional front pocket often dedicated to balls and tees. Instead, this has been replaced with a water bottle holder with a larger pocket on either side dedicated to carrying all of the other accessories you'd need. The water bottle holder is made from a quality neoprene sort of material that will allow to to flex to hold pretty much any reasonably sized water bottle, which is a nice added touch.

The valuables pouch is neatly tucked away above the ball pocket. It's a pocket placement I've never seen on a bag before, but I like how hidden away it is and how easily accessible it is. Unlike other bags, though, it's not fleece-lined, so it might not be as protective on a phone screen. A very small additional pocket on the side brings the total up to six pockets, the ideal amount in my opinion.

To keep this bag as lightweight and low profile as possible, Ping has opted against adding a full-length apparel pocket that we commonly see on stand bags. One of the side pockets can hold a midlayer or a light jacket, but don't expect to be able to carry much extra apparel in the Moonlander. I can forgive this decision, as ultimately this isn't a bag for carrying anything more than you need on the course.

The four-way divider is surprisingly spacious and can carry all 14 clubs. Do expect a touch of club crowding when using all 14 though - especially if you have a larger putter grip - but if you carry between 10-13 clubs, there is very little club crowding to speak of.

At £149, this is a superbly priced golf bag, too. I bemoaned the £229 price tag of the Titleist Players Carbon 4 stand bag when I tested it earlier this year. Though slightly lighter, I feel the Moonlander has more premium materials and added details than the Titleist. The £149 price tag (it can already be found for less than this too) is very competitive for such a stylish, comfortable and well-designed golf bag. All in all, this bag very much feels like the trendy Ping bags of the 1990s. The camo colourway I tested it in, or the option of a white version with the Mr Ping logo on, are both a nice differentiation in a crowded part of the market and the practical lightweight build is perfect for the dedicated walking golfer who carries as little as they like on the course.

Let’s get this out of the way first. When you hear that a golf bag costs $2,000, you’re probably thinking who would pay that much for a golf bag? And why?

After all, there are plenty of really great golf bags for under $500, even under $400 in many cases. But why do some women carry Gucci purses, which can easily cost in excess of $3,000? Doesn’t it basically do the same thing as an $80 purse, like holding all your stuff and maybe organizing it a bit?

Quite honestly, since I don’t know much about purses, I don’t even notice what most women are carrying. But I do believe most women know what they're looking at, and certainly a Gucci purse is not only well made, but it’s also a status symbol and perhaps even a work of art.

For lack of a better analogy, I believe that Vessel’s new Carbon Collection, which includes the Player V Pro Carbon and the Lux Pro Carbon cart bag, sort of fits into that category. After all, Vessel is certainly a luxury brand when it comes to bags, not only in golf, but in tennis, backpacks, duffels and toiletry bags as well.

But these new limited edition bags (which are expected to sell out) are a step up from the normal well-made bags like the regular Player V stand bag, which retails for $469. The new Carbon Series celebrates the company’s 13-year anniversary (the original Carbon Collection was released three years ago during Vessel’s 10th anniversary) with these two special edition bags that are constructed with a carbon fiber fabric called OmniFlex, a strong and extremely lightweight material that’s very durable. These bags also feature tour-grade synthetic leather, a bunch of pockets with magnetic closures, beautiful stitching and craftsmanship and a chrome badge marking the occasion.

These are not the kind of bags you just want to leave in the trunk of your car. You’ll want to take these out and put them in your house (in my case, in my home office) after and before you play.

The Player V Pro Carbon, which I got to take to the course, also has a 14-way top (the cart bag has a 15-way top) that seems easier to navigate than most other bags with 14-way dividers. The putter well is at the top of the bag next to where you would probably put the driver, and the bottom of the bag has two slots for your two shortest clubs. Each slot is lined throughout, so even if you use oversize grips, as I do, the clubs glide in and out easily, and the shafts are protected.

One of my favorite exercises as I got to play several rounds with this bag was gauging what my fellow competitors thought of it. Some of them I would ask how much they thought it was worth. I got a variety of responses as you might imagine, none close to the $1,999 retail price, of course. When I informed them of the price, their reactions were priceless. But when I explained it was a limited edition made with advanced materials, some seemed to understand. They all agreed it was one of the best golf bags for looks.

Fortunately, the Player V Pro Carbon is also a performer. It’s a hybrid bag at 7.55 pounds, but if you don’t load it down, you could definitely walk with it because its patented Equilibrium 2.0 Double Strap does a great job of distributing weight, and it’s super comfortable. Plus, the patented rotator stand system, with its wide low-profile base, gives the Player V Pro lots of stability. The carbon fiber legs also activate easily.

But really, I like this bag best as a cart bag, whether it’s on a powered cart or a push cart. There’s a cart strap pass-through, and because this bag is high end, it also comes with a matching cart sleeve protector to keep the strap from making marks on the finish of the bag.

As for the rest of the features, there are many, but what I liked the most are that not only are the ball pocket and rangefinder pocket magnetic (which has an internal divider), but there are four other magnetic pockets as well for a total of six. One of them is the upper valuable pouch, which is lined with antimicrobial velour. There’s another non-magnetic pocket as well for valuables, below that, and it comes with a key holder to secure your keys. Also on the right side is a large garment pocket, where I was able to store a vest and pullover in addition to the rain hood that came with the bag.

On the left side, there’s another quick access magnetic pocket, which is where you might put your golf gloves or tees, although there is also a velcro glove patch on the outside. And there are two bottle holders with magnetic flaps that close around the bottles or close completely when you don’t have drinks there. In addition, there’s an insulated cooler pocket that drains if you want to carry a couple of cold drinks.

In all, there are 10 exterior pockets and six internal compartments. There’s also a towel holder that doubles as a bottle opener, and each bag comes with a carbon headcover that retails for nearly $250 and a magnetic towel.

Most of all, Vessel stands behind this bag like no other with a lifetime warranty. So basically, this could be your last ever stand bag, and if you’re 30 or 40 years old, maybe $2,000 for a golf bag might be reasonable after all.

The last time we tested the Titleist Players 4 Carbon stand bag was in 2022. I see many of the best Titleist golf bags dotted all over my home golf course, and I have heard anecdotally about how good they are, but I have never used one myself. So, when the latest super lightweight Players 4 Carbon arrived on my doorstep, I was excited to see what the fuss was all about.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of this bag is that it weighs just 1.4 kg. For context, this is about as lightweight as you can get for a bag that holds a full set of 14 clubs and all of your accessories. We tested the TaylorMade FlexTech SuperLite last year, which was also 1.4kg. These two bags are some of the best lightweight golf bags on the market, and I'd suggest that 1.4kg weight is about the lightest a full stand bag can go before sacrificing space. Sure, there are bags like the Sunday Golf Loma XL, which weigh less than 1kg, but these are only for half-sets.

According to Titleist, the polyester materials used across the bag has increased durability by one-third whilst still keeping the overall build incredibly lightweight. I'm not entirely sure on what index that is measured, but I can attest that the material looks and feels like it's built to last. It does, however, make the material feel cheap and scratchy to the touch, especially when considering the price tag.

Also benefitting the lightweight build are the carbon fibre legs. These do a lot to lighten the bag and enhance the aesthetics somewhat, but not much else. According to Titleist, they are more durable than standard legs. Again, I'm not sure how this is measured, but anecdotally, I can tell these will stand up to more abuse than a standard pair of plastic legs. I'd also suggest the inclusion has knocked up the price a chunk, too. The hip pad has been extended from the last version, and the straps are comfortable, secure and easy to get into a position that suits you. All in all, it's one of the most pleasant carrying experiences I've had when you combine the straps and light weight build.

Storage-wise, this bag has everything you'd expect from a lightweight stand bag. On the front, there is a large ball pocket with a smaller zipped pocket for tees and accessories above. I like keeping my tees, ball markers and pitch mark repairer in a separate accessories bag (pretty cool, right?), so I found this pocket a useful place to put my rangefinder. I did miss having a quick access magnetic rangefinder pocket like you get on the Ping Hoofer or Vessel Sunday III bag, but I expect adding a magnetic pocket adds weight to the bag.

A large side pocket will easily fit a jacket or extra layer, while the best pocket is the valuables pocket. Cleverly, Titleist has put a divider in this pocket to allow keys and phones to be kept separate from one another. There's nothing worse than shoving your keys, phone and wallet into a valuables pocket to find that the keys have been busy scratching your phone to shreds while you were playing golf. This divider is a brilliant added detail and thoughtful touch, one I've only ever seen on the Sun Mountain H2NO LiteSpeed bag I tested last year.

Unfortunately, for the entire time I tested this bag, all I could think about was the price - it doesn't feel like a lot of bag here for £230 ($290). There are no magnetic pockets, the materials aren't fully waterproof, and the only real touch of detail I could see was the divider in the valuables pocket. Sure, it's a lot cheaper than the likes of the Vessel Player Air, Ogio Shadow or Vessel Player V, but I feel like those bags warrant their respective costs, such is the quality of materials and added details.

Similar lightweight bags include the Ping Moonlander, which comes in under £150, the Big Max Aqua 7, which has an RRP of £160, and the TaylorMade FlexTech SuperLite at £180. All of these direct competition to the Carbon 4 in my opinion and some, like the Big Max, even have a few more bells and whistles like fully waterproof materials, despite the lower price. It was this that overshadowed what is ultimately still a well-built, desirable and practical stand bag. All that being said, it is one of the lightest golf bags that will be released this year. So, if being lightweight and comfortable are on top of your list of priorities, the new Players Carbon 4 should be very near the top of your list.

The trend of synthetic leather stand bags has been bubbling away for the last few years with more and more brands offering their own versions of a classic, premium stand bag. Think of the Ogio Shadow and Vessel Players V stand bags as leading examples of this. This year appears to be no different and now Ben Hogan has entered the fray. This is a brand ready-made to create a stand bag like this, and the new Signature model ticks pretty much every box in this field.

As with most of these types of bags, the majority is made from a water-resistant synthetic leather material - note it’s not fully waterproof - that aims to provide a blend of practicality and classy looks. It’s a much heavier material than you’ll find on the best lightweight stand bags, but at 2.6kg it’s still relatively lightweight compared to some larger stand bags.

Unlike any other bag I’ve tested, the designers opted to employ quilted side panels. Initially, I didn’t think I liked this particular design choice as it interrupted what was otherwise a very clean and minimal design. However, over time I've warmed to it. It offers a different texture to what otherwise could be seen as a plain bag to look at. You can add your colour and style to the bag too with your towel and headcovers.

It features an 8" 5-way top, which is more than enough for all 14 clubs. I've never quite decided whether I prefer a 4 or 5-way top on the best stand bags, and I don't think it matters that much as long as all 14 clubs can co-exist with as little crowding as possible. The adjustable, padded strap is solid too. It's not an industry leader by any means - I prefer the carry straps on the Vessel Player V, Callaway Fairway C HD and Sun Mountain 2024 H2NO Litespeed - but I always felt comfortable and like the weight of the bag was well distributed as I walked the course.

Pocket space is plentiful, with a large side pocket for apparel and a fur-lined valuables pocket and there are touches of quality all over this bag. My favourites include the magnetic rangefinder pocket on the front of the bag as well as the two water bottle holders on either side of the ball pocket, both of which are also magnetic. There’s something about a magnetic pocket that lifts the ease of use and quality of a bag, and both have been well executed here. That it comes in around £100 cheaper than competitor bags from Ogio and Vessel should make it all that more appealing to the discerning golfer looking for a classic and understated carry bag, but it’s quite willing to part with the money Ogio and Vessel are asking for.

Vessel is known for its premium, visually-striking golf bags out of Southern California and so it when it offers up the opportunity to review a new model, there’s always a scrum for the sample. Thankfully I got the nod and in my humble view, you’d be hard pressed to find a better looking golf bag. The Player V screams luxury and style by combining soft but robust leather with chrome detailing and a clean, unfussy design. Everything is proportioned correctly and there are even five colors to choose from - I received the grey, which looks superb - as well as the option of a 6-way (my preference) or 14-way divider top.

But this bag is by no mean style with no substance - it’s incredibly practical too. Where it sometimes feels like innovation has plateaued among the best golf bags, the feature list of the Player V is almost endless - certainly too lengthy to list in full here but some personal favourites of mine during testing over at least five rounds has to be the magnetic rangefinder pocket, the self balancing straps and the rotator stand system.

Hanging a golf rangefinder off the side of a bag can look untidy but on the Player V you can slide it in the dedicated magnetic pocket, which is also split in two so you can store other associated items like a spare battery inside. I struggled a little to get my chunky Bushnell Pro X3+ in there comfortably, but most models will slot in easily.

The Equilibrium 2.0 Double Strap system is undoubtedly a highlight, not only because of how thick the padding is but also because it requires minimal adjustment once you’ve decided on the height that’s comfortable for you. Over the five rounds I’ve used this bag, at no point did the straps get twisted or did the clubs fall out because they weren’t being carried at the right angle. This was important because coming in at around 6.2 pounds in weight or 2.8 kg, it isn’t the most lightweight stand bag, but you don’t feel it as much as you might expect.

Finally the Rotator Stand system basically allows the base of the bag to sit flush to the ground when the carbon fiber legs are deployed, whereas most of the best stand bags rest on one edge which doesn’t make much sense given a stand bag spends most of it’s time on the ground leaning at an angle. This feature may seem a little unnecessary but it means the bag is far more secure and stable when stationary, something that came in handy when playing in the wind.

There are 10 external pockets on this bag (if you include the Sharpie holder) so you’ll never have a problem finding a home for the kit you want to take out on the course with you. The apparel pocket is sizeable and inside you’ll find a matching rain hood and cart strap with clip on/off attachment should you plan to use this bag on a cart. There’s also a retaining strap for the legs to keep them in place in this situation too. I enjoyed the super soft antimicrobial velour lined valuables pocket down the side for my phone as well as the mix of zipped and magnetic pockets too, the latter providing quicker and easier access to tees. It does mean that the Player V isn’t classed as 100 per cent waterproof but the material and zips have done a good job at keeping light showers at bay during my testing.

Attention to detail is a phrase I go back to when describing this bag. I keep finding new features I missed on first inspection, like the bottle opener/towel ring combo and the combination lock included for storing your valuables securely! I’m not sure if I’ve found them all yet, but I’m excited to keep trying.

A price tag of £429/$429 may seem a lot for a golf bag but you’d do well to not only find another that looks as good but also has as many practice features that genuinely enhance the user experience. It’s built with the needs of the golfer in mind and to last multiple seasons, such is the quality of the materials used.

When the only real criticism is that this travel bag, because of the ample space it offers, may encourage some golfers to over pack (as I did), then you know you’re talking about a very good product.

I understand that some people may be deterred by the price ($399.00), but if you’re a frequent traveller with your golf clubs and you want a high-end case to protect your pride and joy, then this model ticks just about every box.

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a big fan of Vessel. I’ve got the Vessel Player Air stand bag and Vessel PrimeX Plus backpack – both of which exude the same quality design and style as this travel case. I also own a G/FORE Daytona Plus carry bag, which is made by Vessel.

Vessel, for those of you who didn’t know, is a Californian brand, one that is proving a big hit with Tour players and discerning golfers.

So, what’s so special about the Vessel Golf Travel Case 2.0; after all, a golf travel case is just a golf travel case, right? Wrong. Poorly designed ones can get your golf trip off to a terrible start!

Not only does this case do the basics, such as giving your clubs very good protection – it makes a powerful statement as you glide through the airport and hotel lobby. There are plenty of functional travel cases out there, but this one is on that next level.

Airlines don’t always treat luggage with great care, but you can be sure that your clubs aren’t going to get damaged with a 360-degree, thick-padded top and a reinforced protective panel looking after them. The runner guards on the bottom also offer another layer of protection, not just for your clubs but also for the bag itself, which you obviously want to keep in top condition.

Scuffs and knocks are sure to happen but the ballistic nylon is a material that is going to help keep blemishes to a minimum – so it’s also a big tick for durability. Some might feel it’s a little pointless spending so much money on something that’s likely to be roughly handled on occasions – a fair argument – but I think the leather aspects will help it to age well and maintain it’s premium look for many a year.

Meanwhile, the integrated wheel system makes it easy to manoeuvre, as the best golf travel bags on the market should be. On the subject of manoeuvrability, I’d probably say a few models rival this one in that regard and maybe even trump it, but it’s still scores highly in this department.

Onto storage, because we all like to pack lots of golf gear. Even with a golf bag and a full set of clubs packed in, this case has plenty of room for extra golf accessories, including shoes. You don’t feel like you have to find spaces for items. I actually made the mistake of putting too much in – which is easy to do – but that’s only because I’d assumed the weight limit for EasyJet was 23kg, as it is with British Airways. It is, in fact, currently just 20kg. I certainly can’t blame Vessel for the excess weight fee I was handed.

I’m going to talk about the design again and some of the additional touches, because that’s what sets this case apart. The three leather-lined grab handles, compression straps and buckles all fulfil a job and help reduce unnecessary bulk, but they also look very smart.

The other impressive feature is that it can be stored in a compact case. For anyone else who’s a bit of a golf gear hoarder, or simply just has limited room at home, as I currently do, this is a nice bonus.

I guess for those who like their golf travel bag to stand out more on the conveyor belt so they can dive in quick and get out of the airport, they might be disappointed to learn there’s only a black option. Personally, I like the fact it matches with my other Vessel items.

OGIO golf bags are best known for their innovative and bold designs, which definitely make a statement on the golf course, and I would say that many of the patterns will appeal to female golfers. I prefer a golf bag that is fairly understated, so I was pleased to be able to test Ogio’s All Elements Silencer cart bag in a subtle blue floral abstract print to see how it compared with the best women's golf bags on the market.

The bag features OGIO’s patented club WOODE silencer protection system. I hadn’t seen a 14-way divider top like this before so it initially looked odd, but my clubs had never been better protected in a golf bag. There's an extra large well for your putter. As you slide the club through the plastic material, it clicks into the bottom of the bag thanks to a moulded base. It’s really clever because clubs can’t move, there’s no getting hidden underneath each other, plus there’s no noise as you walk along, hence the name Silencer.

It’s a very solid and substantial looking bag, especailly if you're used to using a stand bag. For example, it’s larger than Ping’s G Le3 cart bag, although it feels a similar weight. I expected to see a selection of pockets and this bag has six including two large apparel pockets, velour-lined valuables pocket and insulated cooler pocket with a double zip, but it was the additional features and detail that impressed me most.

I really like the zip pullers that provide easy access to all the pockets, it has handy lock-down straps for your trolley, and while I would never use the shoulder strap to carry this bag, other than to and from the car, it’s smart how the strap can be neatly tucked away into a pocket at the back of the bag.

The waterproof fabric, piping and overall styling oozes quality, it looks as though it will last a lifetime. The pattern and colorway suited me perfectly, which I would describe as lighter than navy with black abstract flowers and complemented by the zips in an even lighter shade of blue. I don’t like a lot of logos on golf bags or anything else, so I could cope with just one ‘OGIO’ in white on one apparel pocket and a much smaller ‘OGIO’ on the top pocket at the front of the bag.

I was able to secure this bag nicely onto my trolley, and I did appreciate being able to clearly see each club in the bag and without them jangling around! OGIO stands for Our Gear Is Organized - well this bag certainly lives up to the brand name. It combines function and style beautifully and so it should priced at just under $300, but it does come with a good warranty, so worth considering if you're in the market for a well-sized cart bag.

Minimal Golf, known as MNML in the US with bags like the MV2, has launched in the UK and one bag the brand hopes will resonate with discerning, dedicated golfers. The brand's name comes from its efforts to create quality golf bags with minimal impact on the environment. Its bags are made from Seawastex nylon, constructed using abandoned fishing nets. Alongside the Terra SE1 stand, the Gaia TE1 cart bag are the first two bags its selling in the UK. 

The first thing worth noting is that there are no zips on this bag. Minimal realized that the biggest reason for bags breaking and being returned is faulty zippers. Such breakages can make a bag unusable, so they decided to get rid of them altogether with a view to making its bags last longer and forcing people to buy less. The principle is the same on the brand's stand bag - the Terra SE1 - and it makes for an altogether easy experience when accessing pockets. Magnetic pockets are quicker to get in and out of, and definitely add a premium feel to the bag. 

The second thing to note is the recycled material with which the bag is made. This is no greenwashing exercise either. The recycled nylon used across the bag is compliant with the Global Recycled Standard, so we can be sure that the recycled claims are true. 

I've found that the quality of recycled material in apparel is actually better than when using virgin polyester - garments from Reflo and Koi Golf have proven that. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for cart bags. The primary material got a certain sheen and scratchiness to it that just doesn't look or feel as sharp as is similarly expensive, luxury counterparts. For example, Vessel's Lux Pro Cart bag, which is only £5 more expensive, feels and looks £100 more expensive when put side by side. This example uses a mixture of magnetic and zippered pockets alongside a Tour-grade synthetic leather for what is a more comprehensive package in my eyes. Yes, it doesn't have the recycled material credentials the Minimal has, but for those which this isn't a priority the quality difference is noticeable. I wouldn't make such a point of this if it wasn't for the £449 price tag and having seen recycled materials used to such good effect on apparel, surely it can be done on bags too. 

That's not to say the TE1 is void of premium touches. I really like plush velour used to line the 14-way top and the magnetic pockets always add a premium touch to a bag. One note on the magnetic pocket closures is that they offer zero protection from water. You might get away with a light shower, but anything persistent or heavy and you'll find the pockets leak really quickly. This is something of a frustration if, like everyone in the UK, you often play in changeable weather conditions. 

The pocket space is ample. A dedicated insulated cooler compartment, rangefinder compartment and velour-lined valuables pockets are the three highlights and there is a dedicated space for everything you'd need. It's unfortunately missing a full length apparel pocket as you'd get on a conventional cart bag, but there is a pocket large enough to store some garments in. There's no doubting this is still a practical cart bag, despite some of its drawbacks. 

Overall, what this bag giveth, it taketh away. It's great to see a brand start using recycled materials, but the quality and the steep price just aren't justifyable. I really like the magnetic pocket closures, but the way they leak so easily is frustrating. It's a good first effort from Minimal, and I hope they can take the learnings from this first drop of bags to improve on its next efforts while still keeping it's environmental credentials high on its priority list.

Minimal is a brand that gets its name from wanting to make products that have a minimal impact on the planet. Its bags are made of Seawastex nylon, which is constructed from abandoned ocean fishing nets. The founder, Sam Goulden, also discovered that the number one reason a golfer throws away a bag is because of broken zippers - which is why Minimal bags feature magnetic closures rather than zips to extend the lifespan of the bag.

Our first impressions of the Terra SE1 are extremely good. The Frost White colour of the fabric along side the black trim really stand out. It looks and even feels like leather, which creates a sophisticated and super premium visual experience. This is enhanced by the tour-inspired velour lined 5-way top divider. I got lots of positive comments from my buddies about how good the bag looked and I have to agree - it’s one of the most stylish stand bags on the market among a growing trend of more sophisticated designs. 

At 2.64kg, this is a mid-weight bag that combines relatively easy carrying and practicality thanks to the seven exterior pockets, which includes an insulated cooler compartment and lined valuables pocket.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of a full length apparel pocket. A lot of the time, clothing falls to the bottom of these leaving dead space at the top, so I understand the reasoning, although I still missed having one. The two pockets on each side are substantial, but I did struggle to fit a mid layer and waterproof jacket in the same one, especially given you have to pull in both sides to get the two magnetic strips to meet and join up securely all the way along.

There’s no doubt that the magnetic closure system does make the pockets easier to access more quickly, especially for things like your rangefinder that you call upon a couple of times on every hole. There are internal mesh pockets to separate items and I found I had enough space to carry everything I needed, although I did end up keeping my rangefinder in the ball pocket and my tees in the rangefinder pocket.

Full disclosure - I decided to try this bag on a two-day, three-round golf trip where I was forced to pack some days before and the weather forecast was set fair. Fast forward to the first day of the trip and the outlook had got much worse with rain forecast for both days - the magnetic closures certainly got a proper, unforeseen workout!

The elephant in the room here is that the pockets aren’t waterproof and in the constant heavy rain this bag was subjected to on the course, a small amount of water did get through. That said, this was a rare situation - I would never normally play in rain like this for so long and during a light shower, I’m confident the closure system would keep the water out as long as you ensure the pockets are closed correctly. Sometimes the black sections don’t quite line up and you just need to give them a quick pinch to get them to seal. Worth noting that it does come with a rain hood to stop water getting in down the top of the bag. 

I used the Terra SE1 on both an electric cart (it has a retaining leg strap) and on my shoulders and enjoyed both - the straps are very thick with lots of padding and a velour-style material underneath for extra comfort. 

This is clearly a well-thought out golf bag that will undoubtedly give brands like Stitch Golf and Vessel a run for their money in the premium, non-traditional bag space. For £400, you’d ideally want some sort of waterproof guarantee, but for the golfer that plays in favourable conditions most of the time, the Terra SE1 should stand the test of time with no worrying about broken zips that render it unusable. My overall experience with the Terra SE1 was a positive one and I’ll be continuing to use it until it runs its course, which could be a very long time indeed.

Austrian brand Big Max are all about the accessories, they are best known for making some fantastic and truly innovative trolleys but have steadily been building their reputation as a maker of quality golf bags. I am not overly familiar with the brand so was looking forward to giving this bag a go. 

I am a huge fan of lightweight bags, the lighter the better and at just 1.7kg (3.75lbs), this fits the bill. With four full length club dividers it can cope with a full set but is better suited for less which is how Big Max pitch the bag. Being so slim and light you would think that the pocket space would have to be compromised but I was impressed with the placement and sizes of the six pockets available, which include what you would expect from a larger bag. The large pocket could easily fit a few extra layers of clothing, the valuables pocket is padded and conveniently placed, and there is room for plenty of golf balls and other knik-knaks. The only pocket that I felt was a little on the small side was the insulated cooler pocket, so if you are a fan on 30oz plus water bottles like myself, you may have to downsize. 

Often slimline bags can feel a touch on the flimsy side, but this felt well-built, and the stand was reactive and very stable regardless of the ground slope. I really like the strap for the legs of the stand, which could have been all too easy to forego on such a light bag that will likely not be used much on a push cart, but it is nice to have that option and makes it ideal for travelling with. 

To wear the bag is very comfortable with good padding on the straps, the back padding, with air channel technology keeps you cool and gives the bag a nice balance to it when walking. The material, overall look and feel of the bag feels quality, and well constructed which is not always the case with 100% waterproof bags. 

If you are after a top quality stand bag for around the £150 price mark you absolutely cannot go wrong with the Big Max Aqua Seven G. It may be less in size and weight but is packed with features and could happily replace a full size stand bag.

When I first looked at the bag I immediately pegged it as a range only bag. How wrong I was! I have bought a couple of stand bags in my search for something light, but with all the pockets I need. 

Last winter my carry bag was often a little too heavy. I'm like Mary Poppins, if you need some random thing on the course I probably have it! Ibuprofen gel, wipes, tissues, insect bite stickers, golf aid. I’m here for you. My bag is packed with clubs and stuff, that does need to change. So I threw my range thoughts out and unpacked my too heavy winter carry bag. I decided to take this MacGregor out for a summer evening 9-hole round and I then realized this bag had five pockets. I could get all my stuff in and it was super light. Bonus.

I might have to work on my club discipline as it’s a four-way and my previous carry bag was eight. As a newer golfer I find it hard to carry fewer clubs and that’s a confidence thing. But I took my irons, wedges and 4-hybrid and it was perfect. My jacket that was on and off also went in the bag. I hope by the end of summer I am a bit better at fewer clubs to save my back even more.

The color way is nice as I do like a black bag with a zip of lime green, which golf brands seem to love. The straps are sturdy enough on the shoulders, but could be a touch wider? The loop for the towel is also a little weak and I ended up using the handle for that. Maybe I’m splitting hairs as it does the required job perfectly well.

Sturdy on the ground which is great as sometimes carry bag legs don’t spring out nicely and feel shaky. Not this stand bag, small, mighty and new firm favorite.

Over the past year or so OGIO has been known for their rather bold and colorful patterns on both some of the best golf travel bags as well as their stand bag collection such as the All Elements and Fuse stand bags. While some may love the extravagant designs such as those with donuts and bananas on them, I guess you could say I’m more of a golfing traditionalist in the sense that I love functionality mixed with classic design and so I couldn’t have been more pleased when I first laid eyes on the new OGIO shadow stand bag.

The OGIO shadow stand bag should ironically be anything but in the shadows and more thrust into the limelight thanks to its sleek, modern design blended with a classic, timeless aesthetic. This luxury bag oozes class and shelf appeal, like a Ferrari of the golfing world. It is constructed with premium synthetic leather, premium stitched handles and carbon fiber legs that are every bit as strong and sturdy as they sound.

One really nifty feature on this bag that is present on other OGIO bags is the Fit Disk technology which automatically adjusts the straps to level out the bag when picked up onto your shoulders although these can also be adjusted manually for the perfect fit. The straps themselves were some of the most comfortable on any of the best stand bags I have tested thanks to plenty of soft padding. 

Alongside the comfortable straps, this bag features a perforated moulded hip pad which is extremely soft for comfort and breathable to stop your back sweating on hotter days. I’m someone who loves to walk and carry my bag so this is extremely important to me. For those purchasing this bag in the US, the bag will actually come fitted with one single strap, perfect for caddies or popping out for 9 holes, although there will be a second strap in the largest side pocket with a waterproof hood.

There are nine pockets on this stand bag, albeit that includes two elasticated mesh pockets, ideal for drinks bottles. While the construction of the bag is superb, fairly lightweight and comfortable to carry, the pockets really don’t offer too much space. There are plenty of small pockets including two magnetic pockets, ideal for tees, balls and valuables but the larger pocket was barely big enough to carry my sweater. Something worth considering if you play in all weather conditions and may look to carry a rain jacket or trousers.

Overall the OGIO shadow stand bag looks and feels extremely premium all while offering great performance when carrying it on the golf course. It’s actually a bag that reminds me a lot of the Vessel Player IV Pro DXR stand bag but actually retails a little cheaper at $379/£369, so if you’ve been thinking about purchasing one of those, I highly encourage you to think about this new offering from OGIO.

When it comes to the best stand bags the long standing conundrum is the trade-off between lightness and features. If you wanted a lightweight golf bag then you had to accept a relative lack of features and space to store your kit. On the flipside, for those wanting features and space it normally came at a cost of increased weight.

In Vessel’s latest offering, the Player Air, the California based brand seems to have achieved the Holy Grail and delivered a genuinely lightweight golf bag that is packed with features and has plenty of room for storage. 

The Player Air comes in at a fraction over 5 lbs or the model with the 6 way divider top (there is a 14 way top too if that’s your thing but it’s 0.5lbs heavier). That lightness is achieved by the materials used to construct the bag. The exterior is made of Cordura Naturalle Fabric and the legs from carbon fibre. Traditionally lightweight fabrics have not had the waterproof properties of some of the heavier materials on the market however testing I found the Cordura to perform really well. It's not guaranteed to be 100% waterproof but I recently played a round at St Andrews in heavy persistent rain and everything stayed dry.

In terms of features there's a lot to talk about - five pockets and a water bottle holder means there's space to take everything you could need for 18 or 36 holes although obviously the more you take the heavier the bag will be to carry!

I managed to fit in a waterproof rain jacket and a quilted mid layer in the main pocket with no issues at all. On the outside of the main pocket there is a valuables pocket which is lined. There's a very roomy ball pocket and above it a smaller pocket with a magnetic closure (a trademark Vessel touch) that Vessel says that's designed for a rangefinder but I use it for tees, pencils ball markers, Sharpies and the like.

On the opposite side to the main pocket there's a smaller hip pocket which is perfect for a cap and gloves. If I had a criticism of this bag, it's that the zip pullers do feel a little on the flimsy side. I find myself being deliberately gentle when zipping or unzipping a pocket. By contrast the carry/grab handles on both on the spine of the bag and the top of the divider are extremely robust. The one on the spine is well padded and the one on the top divider features leather surround - it’s a great touch and really makes a big difference when you are lifting the bag - either in and out of the car or out in the golf course.

Vessel’s patented Equilibrium 2.0 Double Strap is very clever and delivers multiple benefits. It features an 8-point swivel mechanism which self-adjusts to the way a golfer walks meaning it balances perfectly. The straps themselves are padded and very comfortable. I played 36 holes carrying the bag and it did not feel any fatigue in my shoulders that happens with many bags do when you're out for a full day on the golf course. There is also an easy clip on/off strap attachment system that allows you to switch between a single & double strap set up.

Another of Vessel’s patented features that’s found on the Player Air (and all their stand bags) is the Rotator Stand System that allows the base of the bag to sit flush against the ground when the legs are fully deployed for maximum stability even on uneven ground and in windy conditions.

Retaining straps for the legs (which mean this stand bag works well on a trolley), an umbrella holder and a towel/accessories loop complete the list of features.

Finally there's the looks of this bag which are, in a word, stunning. Vessel has a reputation for producing some of the most stylish bags on the market and the classy understated design of the Player Air is the latest great creation. There's some very subtle Vessel branding on side of the bag and on the base but that's it. There's' no huge logo emblazoned across the side so you don't feel like you're walking advert for brand X or Y.

All this innovation, style and high-quality materials does mean the Player Air is very premium priced. But, if you are in the market for a very stylish, super lightweight golf bag with tons of features and great storage then I think you can justify the investment. 

The Ping Ladies G Le 3 Traverse cart bag completes the range of Ping’s third generation of G Le3 equipment that is specifically designed for female golfers. While I generally prefer to use a stand bag, I was keen to find out how this bag stood up against the best women’s golf bags on the market.

Of course, the first thing I noticed was the colorway, and in my opinion, this is the best one yet that Ping has created for the Ping G Le range. It’s largely blue and white, the blue is not quite as dark as navy and this color is highlighted with a very subtle pattern. My only concern is that the white elements of this bag might be difficult to keep clean.

The finishing touches are splashes of gold that show off the brand name and also the words ‘Play Your Best’ that’s printed at the bottom of the ball and tee pocket. I really like this, you can’t miss it, and we all need that reminder before we tee off! I should also add that there is a separate section within this pocket for tees, which demonstrates the detail of this design. Let’s start at the top, and clubs are nicely protected, plus it’s easy to find the one you’re looking for thanks to the 14-way divider. I also like the grab handle, which makes it less hassle to transport the bag, especially when carrying a full set of clubs and everything else that you’ve packed into your bag.

When it comes to the number and size of pockets, Ping has thought of everything. To be honest, I didn’t fill them all, but if I used this bag on a regular basis, I’m sure I would - like filling a larger than you need suitcase! 

In total, there are 11 pockets with two large apparel pockets either side. Inside these are two slip pockets and on the outside are two more magnetic slip pockets. The other pockets are positioned neatly at the front of the bag for easy access including one for valuables and an insulated cooler pocket. It also comes with an umbrella holder and rain hood, plus if you take your glove off when putting, there’s a Velcro attachment.

This bag looks and feels very durable and I found it sat very well on my trolley. There is an additional handle at the side and a carry strap, but to be honest, I doubt many women would carry this bag (only from the car), unless they’ve got a caddie carrying it for them!

Overall, this is a very stylish cart bag, it’s well designed and has everything that women could possibly need to help them enjoy a stress-free round.

There are very few golf bags that I find light enough to carry a full set of clubs in, yet this is definitely one of the best lightweight golf bags I've ever carried. Weighing in at under four pounds, the Titleist Players 4 StaDry stand bag feels like a feather to lift and even when loaded with clubs, balls, accessories and the best waterproof gear the weight is more than manageable on your back. 

The double strap design undoubtedly lessens the burden by evenly distributing weight across your shoulders. It was also very easy to adjust the strap length to raise the bag higher up my back as there was a handy adjustment guide tucked inside the bag to show me what straps to pull to shorten it and balance the weight.

The legs are made from a high-grade aluminum that is strong and helps it stand up stable, even on a sloping lie as you would expect from the best golf stand bags. The fact that they are super lightweight however, does mean that your bag can get blown over in a strong gust on a windy day quite easily, so that's something to be aware of but that is the trade off for having a bag that is much less of a burden to carry.

As the name suggests, the StaDry is fully waterproof, with the kind of seam-sealed zips you find on all of the best waterproof golf bags to ensure that not a drop of rainwater seeps inside, protecting your grips from getting slippery even on a very wet day. 

There are pockets galore, plenty big enough for extra clothing, rolled up waterproofs and snacks, plus a few nice added extra features like the drinks bottle holder and a place to velcro your golf glove to if you take it off to putt. All of this, plus a velour club divider section to stop your shafts getting damaged, adds up to making this a very versatile carry bag indeed and it is certainly one of the best golf bags for women.

It was pleasing to see that there are a rainbow of color choices on offer, so there is something for every taste. Colors available include Orchid/White/Iris, Black/Red, Black, Navy, Dark Red/Grey/Black, Royal/Navy/Grey, Navy/White/Red, Charcoal/Candy/Black, Grey/Green/Graphite, Grey/Graphite, Marble/Vintage Blue, Olympic/Marble/Bonfire, Baltic/Black.

In my opinion everyone should own one of these Titleist Players 4 StaDry stand bags, even if you only use it for holiday golf, it’s a brilliant bag.

They’ve built a culture at Sunday Golf around minimalism and having a good time. So when it came time to go a bit away from their DNA that started with the Loma Sunday bag, by building a bag designed specifically for carts, you knew it had to be a bit different. 

The timing was also right. The Southern California company's loyal followers had been asking for a bag that was opposite of the Loma, which is designed to carry six to eight clubs. And in turn, Sunday Golf surveyed its customers to find what features they wanted in a cart bag. So they came up with the aptly named Big Rig, which is really big - bigger even than the Loma XL bag. There are a dozen pockets on the Big Rig, which can store pretty much anything. I put extra clothes, a launch monitor in there, lots of golf balls in the cavernous ball pocket, and a few other odds and ends.

Then there's the Frosty Pocket, which is the biggest Sunday Golf has ever offered. You can fill this thing with ice and a couple of beverages and keep them cold throughout the round. This is perfect for the typical weekend golfer who rides with their cart bag. In fact, the bag is billed as a weekender. And for golfers who already have a small carry bag, this is the perfect companion.

It also has a 14-way divider, which is one of the features golfers wanted in the survey. I personally don't love the 14-way top, but it does keep the clubs from banging into each other. Plus there's a large putter well, which further separates them.

My issue with a 14-way top on a cart bag has always been that it can be difficult to find the vacant hole as you are playing. But part of that is because I'm not very tall and can't look down on the bag from above when taking a cart. Perhaps taller players have less trouble than I do. I also found that it's important to have a system, that is to designate a slot for each club and not deviate from it (how you organize them is up to you). Like learning where the notes are on a piano or the keys on a typewriter, it becomes second nature where each club is and you don't even have to really look at that point. 

As you might expect, the bag can get pretty heavy when loaded, but it also works great on a push cart. It sits flat on the ground, so as long as its level and not windy, it stands up well. But it doesn't have a stand, so you're probably going to want to lean it against a stand when you go to the range. It also has a single padded strap, which makes it easier to carry to the course. But unless you've got a tour caddie, you're probably not going to want to walk with it. 

In addition, the Sunday Golf Big Rig has a very generous velour-lined valuables pocket, a smell-proof pocket for small items, connection for towel ring, a couple of fabric rings you can use for other things, a big handle for putting it in the trunk of your car, and quality YKK zippers. The cart strap pass-though is also a thoughtful feature, which gives you easy access to all your pockets when on a cart. 

For golfers who like to travel light and who don’t use a buggy or trolley, having the best golf bag for carrying is essential. Callaway produce some of the best golf bags for all types of conditions. Whether it’s cart bags, tour bags, stand bags or waterproof golf bags, Callaway have something for everyone.

I have used most types of golf bags but I had never used a pencil bag until I got to try out the Callaway Par 3 HD pencil bag, which takes many of the features of the best stand bags and uses them in a much slimmer, ultra lightweight package. When it arrived in the box, the box actually felt virtually empty. There’s hardly any weight to this thing at all until you start to add clubs.

Up until a couple of years ago I always carried my bag on the course. The older I got though I found that my game would suffer over the closing holes as fatigue set in, so I reluctantly bowed to Father Time, got myself a trolly and switched to a cart bag. 

It had been a while since I carried a golf bag for 18 holes so I wanted to travel as light and possible. The Callaway Par 3 bag is the lightest bag I have ever used but it is not designed for carrying a full set of clubs. You could squeeze all 14 clubs in there as there is enough room, but the whole point is to travel light so it made sense to me to leave a few clubs out of the bag. I carried 10 clubs as I played 18 holes at the beautiful Palmerston Course at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire.

The main difference between this bag and a stand bag - apart from the size and weight - is the legs. On a stand bag the legs are longer and automatically unfold when you set the base of the bag onto the ground. The Callaway Par 3 HD bag has micro legs which are much shorter and need to be extended manually before setting the bag down on the ground. 

This would be a bit of a faff if you were doing it every time you set the bag down, but the bag is designed in such a way that I was able to just leave the legs extended as they are so short they do not get in the way when carrying. Having the micro legs extended the whole time made it much easier to put down and pick up without the clubs bashing together when the bag hit the turf. The moulded hip pads and strap also added to the comfort and convenience of carrying the bag. 

In terms of storage, there’s not a great deal of room but that’s the point. If you’re travelling light you don’t need eight pockets full of stuff you don’t need. I know when I’m using my trolley that my cart bag is rammed with things I don’t need. Enough golf balls to last a full season, a spare pair of shoes, waterproofs, food, extra drinks, all sorts of stuff that never ends up being taken out of the bag. You can do that when a trolley is taking the weight, but when you’re carrying it on your back it’s a different story. 

So to keep things light I had a dozen balls and a bottle of water in the mesh pocket at the base of the bag. I also had my wallet and a few tees in a smaller side pocket and a sweater in the main side pocket, which also contained the fully waterproof rain cover. There is also a secure, waterproof pocket where I could keep my car keys.

I used the double shoulder strap for carrying, but the option is there to unclip the strap and carry it by the handle, which is something I would probably do if I was playing a par 3 golf course and only carrying a small number of clubs. 

Another little feature I like is the velcro glove holder, which for me should be a staple of every golf bag. I get irrationally annoyed when a bag does not have that as I don’t like to keep the glove in my pocket when putting.

The Callaway Par 3 HD bag is made from 10K waterproof fabric and is fully seam-sealed so unlike many pencil bags, you can safely use this in a downpour and not have to worry about your clubs and belongings getting soaked. 

All in all this is the perfect bag for holiday use or for any golfers who want to travel light and don’t mind leaving a club or two behind.

The Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Plus is the latest addition to the brand’s Hybrid line. If you’ve been trying to buy one ahead of the new 2024 season, you might have struggled—it’s listed as sold out with some retailers. This is probably because it’s rather good.

Like all Dri Lite bags, the Hybrid Plus is made from waterproof material and waterproof zippers. It comes with a big waterproof hood, too, which is easy to attach. For those days on the course when it really comes down hard, this bag keeps everything bone dry. 

In terms of storage space, this bag has ample room for all of your accessories. Even golfers who pack for four seasons in one day will find plenty of space. The pockets are sizeable too, and each one has been well thought through. Four waterproof pockets will keep your valuables safe and dry. Some of them have been labelled, such as the phone pocket and value organizer. I’m not sure this is necessary as it spoils the look a touch—a user manual (leaflet) with the bag explaining what should go where might have been a better idea.

The best pocket is the cool bag, which has enough space for two bottles and a good handful of snacks. If you’re someone who ends up stuffing protein bars, nuts and fruit in a side pocket with your extra layers, you’ll appreciate this cool bag. No more reaching for your sweater and finding that it’s covered in squashed banana! This convenient pouch is a big plus. 

A number of other features make organization a lot simpler, including hooks for towels and a glove and umbrella holder. Then there’s the leg lock system. Pop the bag down and the legs spring out nice and wide, so there’s no danger of it toppling over in windy conditions. 

I prefer to carry my clubs, but I have popped the Dri Lite Hybrid Plus on a push cart too. As the name would suggest, it’s designed to be used as both a stand bag and carry bag. The trolley-compatible floor with a trolley-compatible leg lock system ensures that it stays firmly in place throughout your round. 

Meanwhile, the back pad with air channel makes it a comfortable carry. I wouldn’t say this bag is particularly light, but given the space that it offers, its 14-way divider top, handle, robust legs and base, nor would I class it as heavy. Of course, if super lightweight is your number one preference, you’ll find plenty of other options in the Big Max range, which is really extensive. 

For me, the only negative in terms of looks is the naming of the pockets. It’s a shame, because the Big Max logo on the ball pocket and Dri Lite lettering down the side look really smart. I’d say the smartest color is the white, navy and red, although there are six more options to choose from, including a couple of bolder ones (lime silver and royal sky blue).

As for the 14-ways divider, I’m not a fan – it’s just not a feature that I like in general. I don’t mind clubs rattling around a touch. I actually find fishing around for the club you want a bit of a faff when they have their own sleeves. However, if you’re used to this feature, and you like how each club can be arranged in its own home, then the way this 14-way divider has been built is perfectly fine.

 A versatile, water-resistant stand bag, the Callaway Fairway C HD is a strong addition to Callaway’s range of stand bags. Let’s first address the elephant in the room… yes – it’s orange, and I love it!

The feedback I have had from members on the golf course has been wholly positive, with the bold color scheme making it impossible not to be noticed. The palette is certainly a conversation starter, and after you stripe your drive down the middle of the fairway at the first tee, you’ll look great striding confidently after it accompanied by this innovative design.

The bag isn’t superficial at all, however, and in fact has some excellent practical features that help golfers to enjoy their round. The four-way divider uses Callaway’s ‘shaft-shield’ rubber overmold, protecting your clubs and keeping them well-organized.

A water-resistant fabric means you don’t need to worry about being caught out when the weather turns, and the addition of a fully waterproof valuables pocket provides that extra peace of mind and protection for the things that matter most to you.

The base is cleverly designed to provide great support, meaning the legs feel stable and sturdy on all surfaces. A handy velcro attachment for your glove and a pocket for your pencil also allows you to go about your business with ease. Whether you are playing 9 holes, a full-18 or fancy a 36-hole day, the comfortable straps mean you won’t have to worry about irritability.

A total of nine pockets give you plenty of space to transport everything you could need on the golf course, and while the zips can be a bit stiff to operate, you can play with the comfort of knowing all items are secure and protected against the elements.

Stewart Golf has been making some of the best remote electric trolleys and best push carts for the best part of a decade now, so it’s only appropriate that the brand dipped its toe into the cart bag market to help compliment its award winning range of trolleys. While the brand had dabbled before in some mid-market cart bag options, the new Nero represents the first premium cart bag offering from Stewart. We took it for a spin on our Stewart Vertx Remote to see what it had to offer. 

We really like the sleek black look Stewart has opted for here. It compliments the trolley nicely and the all-black means it won’t mark up too quickly, looking fresh and sharp season after season in all weather conditions. It is made from a tour-grade synthetic leather meaning it's soft to the touch and looks very premium too. It wipes clean really easily too, which is a nice added benefit. 

This bag excels from a practical point of view, too. Nine pockets in total include two plush velour-lined valuables pockets, a large insulated front pocket and a magnetic front pocket which is ideal for a rangefinder. The insulated front pocket is huge. You can easily store a couple of bottles and some food in there with room for more. This impressed me as far too many of the larger cart bags like this neglect the cooler pocket. 

Further functionality comes from the umbrella sleeve, 9.5in 14-way full-length dividers and a padded shoulder strap which comes in handy when taking it from the trolley to the car. The extra large putter well is a nice touch too, which holds putters with any sized grip. Another nice added touch is the customisable zipped front panel. This can be zipped on and off in its entirety and allows you to customise this part of the bag with some embroidery if you wish to. A keyed base allows the Nero to sit perfectly flush on Stewart trolleys like the Vertx or QFollow. It’s much like the case in that Motocaddy and PowaKaddy cart bags are built to integrate seamlessly with those respective electric trolleys - the Nero is much the same. 

Being brutally honest, this isn’t a cart bag that anyone not already using a Stewart trolley will really be looking for, and I suspect the brand knows this. However, I think it's the perfect companion for anyone who already has or who is looking to invest in a Stewart trolley. It really completes the look and I think anyone who uses it will deeply appreciate the efforts Stewart has gone into to create a premium, functional cart bag that perfectly complements its range of premium golf trolleys.

We've always been fans of Big Max golf bags, so much so that a number of their models feature in our best golf bags' guide. Now, we have finally got our hands on the Aqua Eight G Stand Bag, which only adds and heightens their iconic Aqua range.

I actually own the Aqua Seven stand bag and adore it, so was excited to test out the Aqua Eight G and, straight off the bat, it's good news, as the overall look of the Eight G is superb. Adorned with various splashes of color and trim, it follows the same style as previous models, as Big Max have given this particular bag a seven-way divider, six spacious pockets, various handles for easy carrying and full waterproof protection.

Admittedly, when I first picked up and put the Aqua Eight on my shoulders, it did feel and look bigger than some of the other best golf stand bags on the market. However, when fully packed up with golf clubs, tees, balls etc, the bag still felt very light, with the carrying experience near faultless as the weight was evenly distributed.

Providing me with two thickly padded straps, what I really liked was that the leg lock system is hidden within the bag, so it's less likely to break, and the legs stay up when the bag is placed on the shoulders. What's more, the pockets, especially the cooler pocket, are easily accessible, but just be wary of the plastic protector on the left side of the bag which, occasionally, did hit the back of my leg.

In regards to the design of the bag, you can tell that those who like golf are involved, as the pockets are cleverly laid out and very spacious. The biggest pocket on the right hand side is large enough to hold waterproofs and a rain cover, with the waterproof pocket above it ideal for storing your phone and other necessities when out on the course.

Another two pockets feature on the left side, whilst the cooler pocket can store a medium-large sized water bottle when out on the move. The only slight downside is the larger the bottle the more it obstructs the pocket below, but I could still easily move my hand down and around it to access the golf balls that were stored in that particular pocket.

As mentioned, the bag comes across slightly larger than some of the other carry bags available, but there was no issue storing it in the trunk of my car or a cupboard at home. Also, when strapped onto a golf cart, the Aqua Eight G stayed perfectly stable so, if your budget doesn't stretch to any of the best golf cart bags, then the Aqua Eight G could fit the bill nicely.

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by what Big Max have produced here, which is a great performing bag that does everything it should. Its minimalist looks will appeal to all, whilst the well thought-out design provides excellent ease of use. Put simply, it's a great lightweight bag that will keep your equipment dry and protected in the harshest conditions.

The best Sunday golf bags are something of a niche within the best golf bag space. Aimed at golfers who carry half a set occasionally, very few golfers will exclusively use a Sunday bag as their only golf bag. However, if you're playing a quick nine holes after work and don't want the strain of a fully packed bag on your bag, the Sunday bag is a very attractive prospect. 

Sunday Golf - a brand literally named after this niche - has dedicated itself to mastering the craft and we've tested the Sunday Golf El Camino S-Series and Ryder 23 stand bag previously. After a few rounds in the company of its Loma XL stand bag, we're confident that its one of the finest examples of a Sunday bag currently on the market, solidifying the brand's extensive range of bags. 

Firstly, this bag is gorgeous. The very on trend ‘Toasted Almond’ colorway I was testing does a lot to lift this bag’s shelf appeal. Some of the darker colorways really don’t lift this bag so I recommend going for one of the bolder colors of the nine on offer. Weighing just 3.4lbs (1.5kg) this can be comfortably classed as ultra-lightweight. The 3-way divider neatly stores up to 8 clubs too and it comes with a comfortable double strap that I only really wore over one shoulder. 

On first inspection out of the box, it looked like any small Sunday bag to me, but one investigation into the pockets and I was really impressed with how the brand has organized it. There is a pocket for everything you’d need with half a set. Working from the top of the bag down, there’s a Velcro glove holder, valuables pocket, a tee/pencil holder, a mesh pocket which I used to store a rangefinder, a ‘Frosty Pocket’ for drinks, a side pocket for a glove and finally a ball holder which comfortably holds half a dozen. Each pocket is perfectly proportioned and allows you to carry everything you need without cluttering the bag with other useless accessories. All pockets use waterproof zippers so while the bag isn’t fully waterproof itself, these zippers will stop water leaking through these areas. 

My personal favorite is the ‘Frosty Pocket’ which is perfectly sized for a water bottle or two cans of White Claw depending on your preferences (other hard seltzers are available). In calling it the ‘Frosty Pocket’ you can tell the designers and the brand had a lot of fun putting this bag together, and it really feels like that when you use it. 

And that’s why I quickly fell in love with this bag - it put a smile on my face. This whole bag was clearly designed by golfers and it pays off when it comes to the day to day use of it. The valuables pocket is lined with a super soft red fleece, the mesh pocket is just the perfect size of a rangefinder or GPS and the Frosty Pocket fits two cans perfectly all of which shows the designers knew exactly when and where this bag was going to be used. An evening nine holes in the setting sun or a full 18 on a summer’s day, this bag is surprisingly versatile if you’re okay with carrying half a set. 

My only gripe with his bag is the size of the legs. Useful though they are - and they make a strong base for the bag to stand on - it feels unnecessary considering how little you’ll be carrying in the Loma XL. I think it would be much better suited to a set of small legs that you commonly see on other Sunday bags like this. 

For those after an even more lightweight experience, there is a standard Loma with a two way divider holding up to 6 clubs that uses a single strap instead of the double. This option weighs just 1.95lbs (0.8kg), even lighter than the incredibly lightweight Loma XL. There are super lightweight options that can fit all 14 clubs too, with the TaylorMade FlexTech Superlite coming in at 3lbs (1.4kg). Other Sunday bags worth checking out are the Vessel Sunday III (which can hold 14) or the Titleist Premium carry bag although this comes with no legs. 

I’ve never been one to use a Sunday bag before I tested the Loma XL. Even if I am just playing nine holes on a Sunday evening, I like to take pretty much a full set out. However, such was my joy and excitement to use the Loma XL, I think I might be a convert. Hats off to Sunday Golf, which has made a delightful golf companion with the sort of love and attention I think every golf product should be made with. 

I used to have a wonderfully lightweight carry bag, the Trekker Ultra Lite Stand Bag. Unfortunately the legs got inoperably broken and, sadly, these bags are no longer made. (So much for the power of the press and my glowing review). Various attempts at replacing my lost love have proved to be a case of, “You are nice, but you’re no Trekker Ultra Lite.”

The main thing I seek in a lightweight golf bag is that it is has little weight. I used a push cart for years until I joined Reigate Heath GC which has a superb heathland track, but also has several steep narrow paths which made using a trolley a challenge. So I moved over to carrying and discovered that carrying is more convenient almost everywhere, but more tiring, hence why I favor lightweight bags, the lighter the better.

My Trekker Ultra Lite was 1.3kg and the TaylorMade FlexTech SuperLite Golf Stand Bag is a declared 1.4kg. This makes it genuinely lightweight, and two-thirds the weight of some bags which are marketed as a lightweight.

The TaylorMade FlexTech SuperLite Golf Stand Bag is a comfortable carry and easy to use. The straps are quick and easy to loop over your shoulder, and there is a padded section on the section of bag where it rests and bumps against your body. 

The legs give a sturdy base when the bag is set down and are a triggered to extend automatically when you put the bag down at an angle. There are no straps to pin the legs to the bag if you choose to use it on a trolley, as some stand bags have.

The top of the bag has a four-way divider typical of lightweight bags and there are five pockets. Balls, tees, gloves, keys etc are easily catered for in quantity across three of them. There is a full-length pocket, for spare clothing, and a valuables pocket. This valuables pocket is on the outside of the top of the full-length pocket, which means these two pockets are competing for some of the same space. 

The full-length pocket is not especially roomy, and a set of waterproofs easily fills it. This has made getting my phone in and out of the valuables pocket trickier than ideal, especially as the zipped length of this pocket is smaller than the length of my phone. So the phone has to be angled in and then maneuvered down. So far this is the only downside I have found with this bag which I have carried for various rounds over different courses and terrain.

However this bag is not waterproof. It has coped with light showers fine, which is all I have encountered so far when out on the course. So I subjected it to a minute’s deluge with my shower hose directed at the zips from a few inches away, with paper inside the pockets. The paper got slightly damp, though the valuables pocket performed the best. The bag has a detachable rain hood.

Having played thousands of rounds of golf in the last 45 years or more, I have been through more golf bags than I can remember and been very impressed as technology and materials have led to constant improvements in what is on offer.

Big Max is an Austrian company that has been a major player in the bag and trolley market since its beginnings 30 years ago, and has a deserved reputation for quality products. I was therefore very pleased to try out the Aqua Hybrid 4, especially in view of the wettest winter we have seen in a long time!

As for its appearance, then this is a smart and professional-looking stand bag which is easy to use with its straps and stand, while also completely at home on a push cart or buggy. Not the tallest golfer, I didn’t need to adjust the detachable straps which are wide and comfortable with plenty of options to shorten or lengthen in order to carry at just the height and angle that suits. It also looks and feels very well constructed, with padding (and therefore comfort) very much a key ingredient. The 14-way divider keeps your clubs separate and protected, and there are six color options.

With regard to storage, then it’s hard to know where to begin! There are four very spacious external pockets, with the two larger ones offering more than enough space for waterproofs, spare clothing, rain hat, valuables and more. There are a couple of smaller pockets for items you may want to access easily, such as wallet or scorecard, and a large zippered pocket that will take not one but two drinks bottles and help maintain their temperature. There is even an external one to take yet another bottle offering the easiest access, as well as two Velcro strips to attach your glove.

My one minor niggle is that as I carry the bag - which I have now used for several rounds - there is sometimes a slight squeak from the straps. It may be that I don’t have the angle quite right, so I will look to adjust the carrying angle which will probably sort things out. Aside from this, the many plus-sides and features of the Aqua Hybrid 4 make this a very strong offering in a crowded market.

The first thing you notice about the good-looking Big Max Aqua 360 cart bag when you take it out of the box is just how unbelievably light it is - a very far cry from the heavy cart bags of old, which had the ability to put your back out lifting them out of the car. The declared weight is 2.4kg, but it doesn’t even feel that at all. (I recommend reading our best lightweight golf bags guide if you want more models like this).

The next thing you notice is that it has pocket space all the way around the bag, hence the 360 name. Your natural reaction is, “What’s the point of that as there are going to be some pockets you can’t access readily on a trolley or buggy?” A valid question but, having watched the video on the Big Max website, I can see that you may choose to use this additional space to simply streamline the number of things you have to carry to the course, perhaps putting your golf shoes in the big pocket on the side that would often be pocketless, hence no need for a separate shoe bag. Once I started using it, I could see that on the right push cart or electric trolley, where the bag sits away from the support frame, some of these rear pockets are still accessible – certainly on the Big Max trolley I was using.

Of course, the question then is, how much stuff do you really need with you out on the course? We all know there are days when we need to load up for various reasons, and this bag comes into its own then for surely not many bags out there can accommodate more. Being a waterproof golf bag is another excellent string to this model's already sizable bow.

I used to work for Sun Mountain’s UK distributors many years ago at a time when cooler pockets and Sharpie pen sleeves were the latest thing, so I know how important features can be. I wonder if some golf bags have gone overkill now, but I guess there’s always someone out there who really values every little detail in bags like the Big Max Aqua Sport 360, where no stone has been left unturned. 

My personal favorites were the extra-capacity drinks cooler pocket, which can comfortably keep two bottles cool, and the comfortable double grab handles at the top to help with maneuvering the bag out of the car boot. Your personal favorites may differ, but I’m afraid I still struggle to bring myself to like 14-way tops, while appreciating the logic and understanding that others think they're the best thing since sliced bread!

The bag itself is particularly lightweight but sturdy enough to sit on any push cart. The straps make it easy to sling over the shoulder and divide the weight evenly between each side. The Eva Moulded Straps make for an exceedingly comfortable carry even with a full set. I’d go as far as saying they gently massage as you walk thanks to their almost memory-foam capabilities. The same technology is applied to the hip pad so the comfort level is off the chart. The pads are fairly satin in finish so when wearing a silky jacket like my Callaway one they did have a habit of slipping a bit, so perfect positioning was essential. I soon got the hang of it. 

On any trolley (push, electric or remote) this bag sits brilliantly but is narrow at the bottom so straps were essential. It has a brilliantly almost adhesive rubber pad that sits on the top of a trolley and this kept the clubs in place. I’m a big fan of it on the back of a cart. Like a beacon of light but also the pockets are all in exactly the right place. The best Callaway golf bags have every angle covered and this model does so easily.

The 5 way compartment houses a lovely wide upper pocket. This is perfect for a menagerie of headcover clad clubs, plus the rubber dividers mean zero rubbing or deteriorating of fabric. The dividers have full length walls so my clubs didn’t get caught up and I could even get a brolley in there in a rush from the car. The place the umbrella should be kept is one of the only downsides. 

The loop at the base where the pointy end of the brolley should go isn’t wide enough for my snub nosed rubber ended one I own. (Maybe I need a skinnier umbrella?!) The whole attempt to put the umbrella in saw me actually just leave it behind. It’s a bit of a faff. 

A model that should easily go into our best waterproof golf bags guide, the HD is created from 10K waterproof fabric and fully seam-sealed. Let’s talk pockets. This bag has one for everything including some extremely stretchy mesh pockets (either side of the ball compartment) that will keep your drinks bottle secure and a few golf balls from littering the fairways. The zips have a small protector at the top of each compartment which is a clever addition. These are designed to keep any moisture out, on top of the zips themselves being taped. You can take confidence that your precious belongings are even more protected thanks to a fuzzy lined waterproof valuables pocket. One pocket is also insulated with ventilation so your sandwich and any other refreshments will remain cool and fresh even on the hottest day. The pockets aren’t excessive in size but they make up for that with practicality. 

The hood of the bag is particularly impressive. So many carry bags offer very basic hoods to protect the clubs against wet weather or when packed away for holiday. These hoods are usually boring and black. I have the Floral Yellow/Grey/Graphite color combination and this offers a matching yellow hood with almost reflective patterned texture that matches the yellow on the bag. This makes the bag look as impressive with the hood on as it is off. Easy to spot which buggy is yours if this is parked on the back. 

Lastly the rubber feet that come as part of this stand mean this bag is not going anywhere other than where you want it to be. Slippery hotel lobby or pro shop floors often catch a dodgy stand bag out but this is one of the best stand bags because of that grip. Overall quality of this bag is second to none. Callaway have surpassed themselves, what a top class piece of kit. 

I’m very particular when it comes to the golf bags I’m prepared to put in play on a full-time basis. They have to look good, they have to be easy to transport – both around the golf course and to and from the club – they have to be sufficiently lightweight, they have to be comfortable to carry and they have to come with enough storage. It’s surprising how many push carts fail to tick every one of those five boxes. 

The MacGregor Paramount Hybrid 14 passes the test in every one of those departments, and while it doesn’t boast full waterproof protection, it comes with the added bonus of versatility – it can be used as a stand-alone carry bag or connected to virtually any golf trolley via a key-lock, no-twist connection. 

Let’s deal with the aesthetics first. I tested the black/red colorway and I’d describe it as refined and stylish. The splashes of color come in all the right places and it’s tastefully designed. If you’d prefer, you can choose the sky/navy and green/grey options. 

Aside from the versatility, transportation might be this bag’s strongest selling point. It sits very comfortably over both your shoulders and boasts a four-point adjustable strap, as well as a cushioned mesh fabric and an air channel for breathability. There’s an integrated moulded rubber grab handle, too, which is great for people like me who sometimes carry the bag short distances instead of going over the shoulders.

In terms of storage, the Paramount Hybrid 14 comes complete with ten strategically placed pockets, including a velour-lined valuables pocket, and the vast majority of club golfers will find enough space for all their items. When it comes to your golf clubs, the top of the bag boasts 14-way dividers – not everyone’s cup of tea, I know – and three full-length dividers. There’s also an oversize putter/umbrella well.

You do have to push down with reasonable force for the legs to be released, but this is a minor quibble in what’s otherwise a very solid offering from MacGregor.
