Golf apparel has come in leaps and bounds in recent years in terms of quality of construction, style, materials used, colour palettes and more. In this day and age, it’s not uncommon to see polos and mid-layers primarily constructed for use on the fairways worn in non-golf settings. That’s because there’s been a real push towards fashion-conscious construction, with retailers drawing on popular trends from outside the golfing world to provide inspiration for their next creations.

This is certainly true when discussing the best golf polo shirts. Gone are the days where plain, lifeless garments were the only ones you could get your hands on. Creative colour schemes and patterns are far more widespread than they used to be, allowing golfers to show some personality on the course. Nowadays, it’s not just about functional performance; it’s about looking good on the fairways and turning some heads at the same time. Golf fashion has moved on, and the Ping Ephron polo is the perfect embodiment of this new zeitgeist.

It’s a polo that blends performance and style. There are three print designs to choose from and a total of seven different colour schemes, so you’ll have no issue locating the palette and style that works for you. It’s also available in sizes from small to triple-XL, so all body shapes are catered for. I wore the split-ball, stellar multi and it immediately became one of the favourite polos in my wardrobe, not just for the bold, colourful design, but also for the functionality.

It has impressive stretch properties and it’s crease-resistant, which is ideal if you’re like me and somewhat lazy when it comes to dealing with laundry. It wicks moisture to keep you dry in both hot and drizzly conditions and it’s very quick-drying, so you won’t be sodden for long if you’re caught in an unwanted downpour. It also boasts anti-bacterial properties, too.

The three-button placket and concealed button-down collar add to the overall aesthetic quality and the branding is subtle, with a Ping logo on the arm and the famous eye logo on the back of the neck.

Buying one of the best rain jackets is one of the more strange purchases you make in golf because, ultimately, you never want to use it.

If I had my way, every round of golf I play would be in splitting sunshine and minimal breeze, meaning I can play in a shorts and polo shirt year-round. Considering I live in Ireland, this is a rarity, and a reliable jacket to keep me dry against the elements in high-level necessity. It therefore places me in a good position to test Levelwear's premium waterproof jacket, the 'Repel', and I didn't have to wait long for inclement weather to test it in.

First impression are that this jacket is all about performance - it has just one colorway (black) and has minimal design features. This is in by no ways a criticism for I don't want my wet jacket to be a fashion statement, I want it to keep me dry. For me at least, that is its one and only purpose.

So, did it keep me dry? My first morning testing it was a gloomy, drizzly day at Royal County Down which provided a stern test for the Repel. It was consistent, light rain that my late grandfather would describe as "wettining rain", his term for rain that doesn't look very heavy, but you stand in it for 10 minutes and you're soaked.

The Repel, well, repelled the rain brilliantly and I was bone-dry after 9 holes and just under two hours in the conditions. Rain drops bounced off the three-layer bonded polyester fabric rather than remaining there, whilst the sealed zips meant no water ever seeped in.

Two well-placed front pockets gave my hands somewhere to stay warm and dry, a feature that isn't overly common for most golf wet jackets - I've never understood why every rain jacket doesn't have front pockets.

My second round of golf testing the Repel Jacket was in heavier rain, but it wasn't persistent. The WR15k/MVP15k waterproof rating again kept me bone-dry against the stronger downpours and once the showers had passed and the sun returned, the jacket was easy to dry and store back in my bag.

The Repel jacket, therefore, does exactly what it is set out to do. So what about the smaller quality of life features that can set it apart from other jackets in the mid-to-lower end of the price scale? There were a number of small but impactful features I thought could be improved in future iterations of this jacket, the first being that the fit is slightly boxy and meant the front zip protruded out once I zipped it up. The sleeve cuffs are adjustable, but only with two buttons as opposed to, say, a velcro strap. This limits your adjustability a touch.

Realistically, the best waterproof golf jackets are ones you don't even realize you are wearing. They just feel like another layer, like one of the best golf hoodies or pullovers, rather than an actual coat or jacket. My go-to wet jacket, the Kjus Rain Rescue 2.0 achieves this and unfortunately, the Repel does not. However, there are two important things to note here. Firstly, the Repel jacket doesn't feel restrictive, rather it just doesn't feel as streamlined as the Kjus. Secondly, and more importantly, the Kjus jacket is well over double the price ($399) of the Levelwear ($175).

This is also a rather heavy jacket - again, not a criticism, but it is important to know what type of wet jacket you want before vouching for one. The Repel is better suited for a trip for some Scottish or Irish links golf where the weather is unpredictable and you can often play an entire round in the rain, rather than something you can stuff in the bag in case of a light shower in the middle of summer.

All-in-all, I was left impressed by the Repel. I could have done with this jacket on many days of my 12-year caddy career at Royal County Down, the ones where the rain was never-ending and any jacket I seemed to wear always let in.

It isn't the perfect jacket though, and those who don't like wearing wet gear may not gel with this, but the foundations are there for Levelwear to tweak and make subtle improvements to allow future versions of the Repel to be one of, if not the best value waterproof in a ever-crowded market.

Playing in unfavorable weather conditions shouldn’t mean you have to sacrifice the ability to swing as freely as you do on a warm sunny day. And yet, bulky layers tend to restrict movement while keeping the elements at bay. But now, there’s no longer a trade off… thanks to the Galvin Green Luis.

This short-sleeved half zip might well be the lightest wind top ever made. Why? Well firstly it’s constructed of the same ultra-thin material used on last year’s Larry and secondly, it’s short sleeved. These appealing features combine to create one of the best gold mid layers tipping the scales at just 94 grams, which is the same as just two golf balls.

So there’s no danger of excess bulk weighing you down and the short-sleeved design means there’s no bunching or pinching at the elbows or wrists, unlocking completely free swings with maximum power. An added bonus? It packs down into next to nothing for easy storage.

Is there a trade off in protection? A little. But you'd be surprised at how well the Luis keeps the breeze at bay. Testing it on the course over multiple rounds, I was really impressed with the level of protection on offer from such a minimalist garment.

The material is so thin, you can see the design of your polo shirt underneath which means you’ll need to be somewhat selective with your outfit choice. But what it does do is offer a surprising level of water resistance. In fact, if you poor water on the sleeve, it beads off completely leaving barely a trace of moisture behind. In a heavy downpour, you’re going to need a proper full length waterproof jacket, but the Luis does a very decent job in light showers.

It fits well too. This is partially down to the stretch qualities built into the fabric, but also the customisation options. At the hem there’s an elasticated drawstring to stop the bottom of the garment interfering with your swing.

Our on-course experience with the Luis has been a positive one. It works just as well in the winter over a base layer and polo shirt as it does over just a polo shirt on a spring morning. You’ll get a lot of rounds for this versatile garment, which makes the £129/$169 price tag mightily appealing. Plus - it comes in three color options of royal blue, black and navy, so you can choose the design that matches your wardrobe.

While I’m a relative newcomer to golf, I’m an old hand when it comes to rain jackets - both personally and professionally. As someone who likes a bracing walk in the hills, I have spent a disproportionate amount of time and money trying to find the perfect waterproof for hiking. And in over two decades as a running and cycling journalist I braved the elements to test everything from gossamer thin, skin-tight emergency gilets to Gore-tex-rich extreme commuting outerwear.

So, I like to think I’m more than qualified to offer an opinion on whether or not the ProQuip Ultimate HTX passes muster as one of the best golf rain jackets available. Spoiler alert – it really does. I’ve worn the Ultimate HTX in some miserable conditions – usually while playing some equally miserable golf – and it has impressed me, albeit with a small caveat relating to the HTX suffix.

I’ll start with the all important aesthetics. I was provided with the all black Ultimate HTX to test and it’s fair to say that it’s pretty understated – the only adornment is a small reflective decal giving the jacket’s name running alongside the vertical breast pocket and ProQuip logos on the front hem and rear collar. It’s definitely not a ‘look-at-me’ bit of kit, although if you want something a little more flamboyant you can get versions with either large blue, white or grey panels. (You know that you’re getting old when you write ‘grey’ and ‘flamboyant’ in the same sentence.)

From a water-proofing point-of-view the Ultimate HTX has passed every test I’ve put it through so far – some heavy rain but, as is standard in the UK, mainly persistent, insidious drizzle. The four-way stretch outer doesn’t have a ‘name-brand’ water-proofing technology such as Gore-tex or DWR but the Scottish brand’s proprietary fabric is excellent. Rain beads on the surface and rolls off or, in the case of that drizzle, is easy to shake off. I have yet to experience the jacket ‘wetting out’, which can happen when you spend prolonged periods in the wet.

Seams are taped and zips are waterproof too, which means that phones and scorecards kept in pockets remain dry. The only dampness I experienced came when the fabric stormcuffs around the wrist protruded outside the waterproof sleeves. ProQuip backs the Ultimate HTX with a three-year waterproof guarantee and I’ve no reason to doubt that it’ll see out that time period.

Fit-wise, I was testing the Ultimate HTX in a large size and, as a 6ft 1in-ish, 40-42-ish chest man, found the fit good. The outer-shell has a small amount of stretch and that meant that movement didn’t feel restricted – fit can also be adjusted with a drawstring at the waist. It’s also worth noting that the fabric doesn’t make a lot of noise when playing.

Arguably, the USP of the Ultimate is the HTX. This stands for Heat Technology Extreme and is a metallic base layer sewn inside the jacket. It’s reminiscent of a space blanket that exhausted marathon runners wrap themselves in, and the idea is that traps and reflects body heat back into your torso.

It definitely works but the downside is that, despite ProQuip’s claims that the outer shell and lining is breathable, you can get very warm, very quickly if the temperature moves towards double figures – which is often the case during rainy, southern British rounds. Ideally, I’d prefer the HTX liner to be removable which I think would improve the versatility of a very good, and impressive value rain jacket.

Over the last three years, Manors has been busy making a splash in golf fashion and golf content creation space. If you haven’t seen the brand’s clothing on social media yet, you’ll have done well to miss its equally stylish short and long-form content.

The brand’s new Pertex waterproof jacket (and accompanying waterproof trousers) is its first foray into full waterproofs, and I was excited to see how the brand could execute a practical garment while still incorporating some of the stylish design cues we’ve come to know Manors for.

The waterproofing is exemplary. The Pertext material delivers a huge 30,000mm waterproof rating - which in layman's terms is a lot - while also having the ability to let moisture vapour escape, meaning you stay dry without ever overheating. The two-way stretch means it also moves with your swing with no restriction, something that can't be said for all of the best golf rain jackets.

What makes this jacket stand out from others I’ve tested is how lightweight and packable it is, making day-to-day use all the more convenient. The jacket barely weighs anything, hardly making an impression over a midlayer when wearing it on course and never inhibiting the swing. The technology in the fabric makes it incredibly breathable too, meaning it can be worn comfortably on those wet and mild days as easily as when it’s wet and cold.

It can also be packed into its own carry bag, complete with a convenient carabiner clip, which is a really smart touch and one that makes the day-to-day use of a jacket that little bit easier. Stuff it down the bottom of the apparel pocket on your bag, or clip it to the accessory station for even quicker access - it’s a brilliant idea.

Design-wise, in truth, there’s not much you can do with a waterproof jacket. Despite this, Manors has done a great job adding subtle design cues where necessary to still make this feel like a fashionable choice on course. The fit is excellent (aided by the adjustable cuffs on the arms), and the logos and writing down the back offer something for the eye to enjoy, rather than just a plain black jacket.

It’s not too ‘golfy’ either, which can’t be said for many waterproofs. Not that I’m embarrassed to be a golfer, far from it, but something I don’t want to wear a FootJoy jacket away from the golf course and scream to the world I’m a golfer. This Manors jacket is an ‘if you know, you know’ situation where non-golfers will see it as a normal rain jacket, meaning I can wear it with much more confidence off the course, helping warrant the investment too.

It can't be all positive, though, and the jacket does make a lot more noise than a lot of the other best waterproof jackets we’ve tested, rustling quite a lot as you move and swing. Of course, all waterproofs do this due to the nature of the materials, but this was noticeably louder than some, like the HLINC Links jacket or the Ping AquaDrive jacket.

If you’re in the market for a lightweight, packable and well-waterproofed golf jacket for on and off the course, there won’t be much better this winter than what Manors has created here. The subtle but stylish design stands out from the crowd, while the overall execution of the jacket is that of a brand that’s been doing this for years.

The hallmark of a good waterproof jacket is reliability - once you put it on, you want to know that whatever the weather conditions you'll be able to swing freely whilst staying dry at the same time. At the price point the Zero Restriction Z2000 comes in at, I had the upmost confidence this would indeed be the case, and I happy to report it passed the test with flying colors.

I tested this jacket across several rounds, some of which were in very heavy rain. Water beaded and ran off the shell reliably; at no point did moisture seep through seams or zippers keeping my clothing underneath warm and dry. Against wind, the shell fabric felt solid and I had a comfortable “shielded” sense without feeling claustrophobic - the jacket fit meant that there was not lots of material moving in the harsh wind which allowed a full range of motion in my golf swing. The taped seams and careful detailing seem to do their job at keeping the wind away from your body and the heat in.

The best golf rain jackets also find the sweet spot between allowing breathability so you don't overheat whilst wearing it but also blocking water from the outside coming in. Some of the best cheap golf rain gear do this, some don't. Pleasingly, I didn’t overheat in moderate exertion, and internal condensation was minimal. I combined the jacket with a light quarter zip underneath and found that its a perfect jacket for light layering underneath, this further helps with keeping the wind and rain out and staying warm and dry whilst maintaining comfort.

Although some of the best golf waterproofs now fold up into no size at all, allowing you to fit them easily into your golf bag, the same can't be said for the Z2000 - but that isn't to say it's bulky. It won’t fold down to the size of a tee shirt, but it’s manageable in a carry bag or backpack or even in the large pocket of my golf bag.It does feel slightly more solid than featherweight shells, but that’s the trade for durability and full protective features.

The detailing of this jacket really sets it apart from others in its class. The dual direction YKK Aquaguard zips are superb, they glide smoothly when taking the jacket on and off. My favorite feature of the Z2000 is the cuff system which is quite unique. A clever dot-lock system means that you can silently adjust your fit around your cuffs without disturbing fellow golfers with a traditional velcro system. The anti-chafe chin guard allows you to zip up the jacket fully and feel comfortable and warm, without being scratchy around the chin area.

In terms of sizing, there's an important not that the manufacturer points to - this jacket runs small in terms of sizing. In practical use, I found that what would usually be my “go-to” size was a bit snug over a midlayer. For those who like layering generously, choosing one size up is prudent.

The lifetime waterproof guarantee is also a huge bonus. The guarantee adds a layer of assurance that this jacket is built for longevity and i’m looking forward to wearing it more - it feels great to play golf in.

At a retail price of $610 (US) the Z2000 is certainly a premium purchase. It competes with high-end jackets from leading outdoor and golf apparel brands. The question is whether you’ll fully utilize its capabilities enough to justify the cost. The Z2000 may not be categorically the best in all conditions, but it sits among the top tier of performance shells.

Although a couple of my Golf Monthly colleagues have tested HLINC (pronounced 'Link') products in the past when trying to decipher which is the best rain jacket - including the Waterproof Longsleeve Quarter Zip, which was very well received - I had never personally enjoyed the pleasure until now.

However, having spent several weeks thoroughly testing HLINC's Full Zip Waterproof Links Golf Jacket before writing this review, I can wholeheartedly tell you it was worth the wait.

As luck would have it, the period in which I tested the Links Golf Jacket coincided with a turn for the worst in terms of the weather. Milder temperatures sunk to figures you might find on Scotland's coast, even during the summer, and the wind picked up to unrelenting speeds for a few days.

One of the very first days I slipped on the Links Golf Jacket, which was engineered specifically for use in some of the harshest conditions you might play golf in, the wind was blowing at up and around 40mph and the added rain showers made it a pretty gnarly experience.

Admittedly, I was somewhat dubious over claims that the eVent fabric was 100% waterproof and windproof. But the difference in feeling between wearing the jacket and not in those conditions was truly night and day.

The newly-created buffer between my body and the elements was genuinely impressive, as far as the wind went, and my clothes underneath were completely dry - proving HLINC's claim that the jacket carries a 20,000/20,000 waterproof and breathability rating.

Having worn the Links Golf Jacket in some of the worst weather you might experience playing golf on the coast, I knew anything else would be a breeze. And that was certainly the case when heading out onto the course in far calmer conditions over the subsequent days and weeks.

The absence of any rain and a drastic reduction in wind speed on the days I'd picked allowed me to concentrate on other areas of the jacket, such as the practicality and suitability in more mild conditions.

As a start, the Links Golf Jacket's breathability was excellent in the crisp morning air and will comfortably protect you until wearing an additional layer is no longer necessary. At that point, you're free to rely on your other layers such as sweaters, hoodies and quarter zips.

From a practical point of view, the clever addition of a back pocket instead of a front was something I never really knew I needed until I had it. Perhaps you just make do with a golf ball and some tees in your pocket while leaning over a putt, but that's not a concern with the Links Golf Jacket as all of that paraphernalia can rest on your lower back instead.

If there was one thing that I would improve about HLINC's full-zip offering, though, it would be a second back pocket. Most clothes have pockets on the front and - as such - that is naturally where your subconscious mind goes when reaching for a tee or ball marker.

Once you've realized that your belongings are on your back, it takes another moment to consider which side the pocket sits. If another pocket is added, that would solve that tiny issue and allow for a little more storage space upon your person.

But, really, I'm picking holes in what is otherwise a fantastic golf jacket. Other plus points included the enhanced back hem which seemed to prevent any bunching when crouching or bending down and the well-sized zip-up chest pocket.

Another aspect of the Links Golf Jacket that I found particularly impressive was how lightweight yet sturdy it feels. You can easily fold it and store inside a golf bag without taking up too much room, but when you have it on it offers excellent protection.

As well as protecting you from the elements sufficiently, the jacket offers a complete freedom of movement while swinging the club. I haven't always found this to be the case with other options, so this was a big tick in favor of HLINC's full-zip jacket.

In terms of aesthetics, I felt the Golf Links Jacket looked incredibly smart and sleek, allowing me to wear it both on and off the course. The mains HLINC logo sits subtly on the back of the neck and is part of a modest design pattern with another smaller logo by your hip. The only slight downside in this area is that the jacket comes exclusively in black for now, although a navy colorway is due to arrive in 2026.

Its price point is far from among the more affordable options, but it is certainly a long way from the most premium-priced golf jackets on the market. As a firm believer in the phrase 'you get what you pay for', I would say investing in a jacket like this one will be an extremely worthwhile decision.

There can't be too many better options out there in terms of the best golf waterproofs, if any at all. Regardless, I would find it hard to believe this specialist option isn't at least firmly in the conversation, if only because it delivers on every promise it makes.

The Ping SensorDry AquaDrive waterproof jacket ticks every box: it’s very breathable, stretchy, ultra lightweight, and windproof. With such a super thin and lightweight material - and no kind of additional lining on the inside - the fact that it provides such impressive protection in the rain is actually quite remarkable.

Some golf waterproofs (not the premium kind), can quickly feel like they are being overpowered in the rain, and they start to lose their shape and cling to your body. You get what you pay for - and in the Ping AquaDrive jacket you’re getting a very high-quality waterproof jacket.

I’ve played half a dozen rounds wearing the jacket, with conditions varying from light to moderate rain. Out on the links at Formby Golf Club as well as the exposed fairways up in the hills of the fabulous new Paragraph Golf & Spa Tabori in Georgia, this full zip jacket kept me perfectly dry and comfortable. Because it’s so light, you can add several layers underneath for additional warmth without feeling like your swing is restricted. In my opinion, minimalist designs are best when it comes to waterproofs. The AquaDrive jacket has two zipped pockets on the side (no unnecessary chest pouch), easy-to-adjust elasticated cuffs, and an adjustable shock cord hem. It's a little awkward to operate, and not very robust, but you soon get the hang of it. Meanwhile, a two-way weather resistant front zip makes it easier to pull the jacket on and off quickly with the minimum of fuss.

Paired with Ping AquaDrive pants, you’re going to look like a pro when it rains. Talking of pros, this is the stylish design that is worn by the brand’s tour professionals. If you tuned into the very wet and windy Alfred Dunhill Links Championship recently, you’ll no doubt have seen a few of these suits.

It’s nice to see one bright color in the range. The winter months are often gray and dull, so the Brilliant Blue/Oxford Blue (pictured) gets my vote. The contrast branding and Ping logos - one on the right shoulder, one on the rear collar, and one SensorDry stamp down by the left pocket - have also been carefully considered. Ping doesn’t really do ‘in your face’. The branding is subtle, although the logos do give the garment that stamp of quality, which golfers will appreciate.

One detail that often gets overlooked is a hanging loop, which this jacket has. It’s a bit of a bugbear of mine. When I come home from golf wet and need to hang something up to dry in the garage, I want to see that loop! Thank you, Ping.

I could realistically just write that this rain jacket delivers in just about every way you would want one of the best rain jackets to perform, but I will go into more detail don’t worry. Let’s start with the protection because this is arguably the most important element. Constructed with three layers of Polartec Powershield fabric, this jacket offers complete and total protection from adverse weather conditions. In the rain nothing penetrated the layers, and I can say this is true for light rain and absolute downpours because I got caught in both during testing. It dealt with the wind nicely as well, the quality and thickness of the fabric blocked out gusts and I felt cocooned nicely, especially when wearing other layers underneath as well. Finally it is worth saying this performance is not surprising given the seam-sealed design and the heavy duty zippers which prevented water seepage.

This isn’t to say the jacket felt heavy because the fabric still feels soft and lightweight. I found it to be extremely comfortable as well, which is an underrated element in rain jackets, and it paired very well with other layers underneath, such as sweaters, hoodies and quarter zips. The adjustability on offer, such as the toggles at the waist and at the cuffs, allowed me to dial in my fit, whilst I should mention this is a breathable jacket as well. Too often in rain jackets I sweat too much because the seam-sealed fabrics used don’t let anything in or out, but this wasn’t the case here. Additionally the fabric stretched nicely and gave unrestricted movement throughout the swing.

Clearly, Sun Day Red have thought about every single facet of this jacket, and as such the details really elevate the design. For example it barely makes any noise when moving around and swinging, which is rare when using these kinds of fabrics. It also folds down conveniently so should fit in pretty much any golf bag. Additionally to go along with the long-sleeve full zip model I tested, there is a half-zip and a short-sleeve model so whatever you prefer in a rain jacket, there is a design for you.

From a looks perspective there is only one color to choose from but overall it is an understated design with small SDR logos and motifs throughout. As such I think it is very versatile and I’ve used it as much off the golf course as on it, especially for walks around London where a downpour can come out of nowhere.

Finally I should mention the price because not beating around the bush, it has a premium price, but as I hope I have vocalized in this review, it is a jacket that delivers performance at the top end of the market. And given it is a jacket for everywhere, and it is likely to last you many, many years, it is a worthy investment in my opinion. As far as the question goes at the top of this page, is this the best rain jacket on the market? Well I have tested lots of different models, as have other members of the Golf Monthly team, and it is certainly up there in performance. Whether it is the best is tricky to answer with any certainty, but it sits alongside the Rain Walker Jacket from Peter Millar, and other top models from FootJoy, Under Armour and adidas no doubt.

If you’re like me and like to try and keep your game sharp all year around, then you’re going to want some versatile apparel that can be worn both on a crisp winter morning and a sunny spring day. The Johnnie-O Zuker Mixed Media Jacket certainly looks the part, but how practical is this jacket? I’ve tested this jacket for multiple rounds of golf in differing weather conditions to determine whether or not it should be a staple in your golfing wardrobe.

While named a jacket, the Zuker Mixed Media Jacket resembles more of a quilted hoodie. However, unlike a standard cotton hoodie, this garment is premium in every sense of the word, made from 80% model, 15% Polyester and 5% Spandex. The Zuker has been designed with extreme comfort and versatility in mind, providing an extremely soft touch on the skin and impressive levels of stretch, meaning your swing remains unhindered.

The chest section is one of the thickest quilted sections on any golf jacket I have ever worn, yet, remarkably, it didn’t impede on my swing at all. The stretch across the arms, shoulders and back allowed me to swing with freedom, all while remaining warm on cool spring mornings. The modal blend on the sleeves and main bulk of the body provides much better breathability than I was expecting and helped me stay comfortable until the point where I was ready to attack the course in just a polo.

While I haven’t managed to test the Zuker Jacket in the cold depths of the UK winter, I would imagine I’ll need to wear a thin mid layer or baselayer between my polo and the Zuker jacket to feel appropriately warm. The two-way full zipper makes layering much easier than a simple pull-over hoodie and if you were really feeling the cold, then pulling the soft hood up and pulling the signature toggles should do the trick.

The thing I like most about the Zuker Mixed Media Jacket and the majority of the Johnnie-O apparel I have tested - it’s ridiculously versatile. This jacket does come with a punchy price tag of $298 but the use you’ll get out of it, makes me think it’s worth the investment. It boasts an extremely premium aesthetic in a navy blue and the fit is one that’s loose enough to swing, but tailored enough that it doesn’t look baggy.

If you’re looking for a premium garment that can worn both on the course, in the bar afterwards or out in the city on the weekends, then I couldn’t recommend the Johnnie-O Zuker Mixed Media jacket any more.

Golfers should have a few mental check boxes that need ticked when looking to buy a pair of golf pants. They have to be a few things - stretchy, lightweight, comfortable and have sufficient pocket room for all the items and accessories that you may carry during rounds like tees, ballmarkers, scorecards and more.

Of course, the golf pants have to look the part too - step forward the Under Armour Drive Tapered Pant, arguably the best pair of golf trousers we have tested in 2025 and certainly the best in terms of value for money.

Beginning with the looks, we tested the Halo Grey color and instantly loved what met the eye. The color is a gorgeous one, hitting that perfect balance between light colored, eye-catching pant without being too attention seeking.

These are trousers built specifically for golfers and after only a few holes on the golf course it’s easy to see why. The Drive pants are both light and stretchy, making them perfect for spring and summer golf. They are also water repellent which protects you against those unexpected showers that roll in half way through your round.

4-way stretch of the durable & super-comfortable stretch-woven twill fabric allows for full movement throughout the golf swing, meaning you’ll never feel restricted.

The internal rubber writing on the inside of the stretch waistband is an excellent touch, keeping your polo shirt in place and tucked in throughout the swing. Sufficient room is provided in the four pockets but we may have appreciated a little more or perhaps a mini pocket inside one of the front two pockets to store my pitch mark repairer or ball marker - however, I’m a player who typically has a lot in his pockets during rounds!

We tested these trousers alongside the Under Armour Forge 96 shoes, a really good value pair of golf sneakers, and loved the color coordination on offer - look good, feel good, play good as they say.

At just $85 per pair, there is a better pair of golf trousers on the market for the same price. The Drive pants are also available in a non-tapered version for those who prefer a more roomy fit.

The Stuburt Bullfinch Polo Shirt is an excellent option for those looking for a new golf polo and those who want to stand out. This polo shirt is comfortable and easy to swing a club in, has moisture-wicking and UF-protection properties, and dries relatively quickly.

Made from 88% polyester and 12% elastane, it felt comfortable against the skin, although the material does has a slightly slippery feel to it. This is mainly as a consequence of the material being designed to wick moisture away from the body. This makes it a comfortable garment to remain cool on baking hot days out on the course. The UPF50 sun protection is most welcome when the sun is blazing down, too.

The material’s elasticity allows for perfect ease of movement throughout the swing. The shirt is long in the body, allowing it to be tucked into pants or shorts and stay there during the vigors of the swing. The addition of two side vents in the hem of the garment also helps here.

The material does not crease and so can be scrunched up tight in your packing, which makes it a handy item to take on a golf trip.

The cut of the garment is generous, so if you are someone who tends to fall between sizes, the smaller of the two would probably be the right choice. This is especially so considering the stretchiness of the material.

The abstract camo design is an eye-catching one. It is relatively subdued in the Blue option as you can see above. However for those who prefer a bolder statement, there is the Bermuda Grass color scheme and then going a step even further, the Fuschia design. The shirt has three buttons which match the color of the shirt design.

All in all, this is an an excellent golf polo shirt, which does everything a golfer could wish for on the course. The only thing that might put someone off it is the design, but that is a personal thing. Polos can often effortlessly straddle on and off-course settings, but this design means that some wearers may think twice about wearing it in the more formal of of-course settings.

I have tested golf apparel for many years now, when I sat down to work it out I think it is around the six year mark. As you can imagine this means I have been lucky enough to try out, and properly test, a lot of gear ranging from rain jackets to shorts, whilst also covering a lot of brands like adidas, Peter Millar, G/FORE and many more. But in 2025 I was fortunate enough to receive an email about testing Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red apparel and I jumped at the chance.

For those of you unaware, Sun Day Red is a collaborative brand between TaylorMade and Woods, with the 15-time Major winner spearheading the brand after his split with Nike towards the tail-end of 2023. It manufactures a range of soft goods, some truly stunning shoes and also a wide collection of apparel for both men and women.

Now after getting some hands-on time with the product, I can categorically say that Sun Day Red clothing is some of the highest quality garments I have ever felt and tried on, and one particular top has become my absolute favorite, the 3D Tour Cashmere Hoodie.

Why you may ask? Well when I took the hoodie out of its packaging it immediately became clear to me how high-quality it is. The 100% cashmere fabric construction was so soft and actually drew an audible gasp from my partner. She went so far as to ask if she could have the hoodie but no way was I going to agree to that.

The hoodie is part of the premium cashmere collection and it is made with a 3D Knitting process which basically eliminates seams and delivers key stretch where needed. Indeed in my testing the hoodie stretched beautifully and was incredibly comfortable too - lightweight, breathable, it gave a degree of warmth, and worked well with a polo shirt underneath and a vest or lightweight jacket over the top.

It doesn't feel bulky and it retains its shape nicely, and again I am not sure I have the vocabulary to explain just how soft the cashmere is here. It is just awesome.

As mentioned above there are 11 lovely colors to choose from. I tested the navy but have my eye on the Frost Grey/Pale Blue finishes, and speaking more generally on the aesthetic, it is smart and works very well off the golf course too. I have worn this into the office a number of times for example.

Now the elephant in the room here is the price, the hoodie is at the premium end of the spectrum but this is all relative. To some $375 is affordable, to others it isn't. But what cannot be ignored here is for that price you get an ultra-premium product that feels worth every penny in my opinion.

We all get caught in inclement weather every now and again on the golf course so it is vital to have garments that help you deal with that ever-changing variable. Enter the G/FORE Camo Tech Hooded Pullover, a lightweight jacket designed for exactly that.

It has a water-repellent finish which protects nicely in pesky showers, something I was easily able to test thanks to the terrible weather we had on one of our testing days at Caversham Golf Club. Admittedly for larger downpours you would be better off with one of the best golf rain jackets, as they have been specifically designed to keep deluges out, but for lighter showers, the jacket kept the water out easily and I always love the introduction of a hood as well.

It paired very well with other mid-layers and hoodies too, so warmth was never an issue. This is largely thanks to the ultra-lightweight tech-woven fabric construction, it literally only weighs a few pounds so at times it is easy to forget you are wearing it. I also felt the jacket was breathable. With water-repellent jackets it can be easy to overheat and get too sweaty but this was no issue for me.

Of course we cannot go any further in this review without mentioning the aesthetic. The camo design will divide opinion, in fact many of the Golf Monthly team loved it and some didn’t. This is fine because every fashion sense is different, I actually felt the Twilight finish was growing on me which meant it wasn’t a loud garment in my opinion, and there is a degree of subtlety here. As such I was happy to use this top on walks off the course too, another activity that has to deal with inclement weather.

A few final things to mention, the jacket stretches really nicely and it also folds down to nothing so will fit in pretty much any pocket in your bag, and because it is so lightweight, you aren’t adding any weight to your bag either. I do wish the cuffs were more elasticated around the wrists, and perhaps a jacket of this type would be better with a full zip, instead of being a pullover, but these are such minor critiques that they don’t take away from the overall performance for me.

If you know the G/FORE brand, aesthetics can often be out there and really stand out, but I don’t think this jacket goes too far with the unique look, and what cannot be denied is the overall quality of the pullover. It feels extremely well-made, well designed, and performed how I would want a lightweight jacket to. G/FORE gear does come in at the premium end of the price spectrum, but from my experiences of testing the gear, the premium performance delivers on that investment. A go-to top when you need it.

Given where its products sit on the price spectrum, choosing to part with your money for a Galvin Green garment is a decision that requires some consideration. Does the combination of design and performance make this particular jacket one of the best golf windbreakers and more importantly, does it make the extra investment worthwhile?

I recently tested the Lyndon Windproof jacket which is a lightweight design that’s aimed squarely at autumn/winter golf and, as is usually the case with Galvin Green, the designers have thought carefully about exactly what the golfer needs. 

Galvin Green Lyndon Windproof Jacket Review

First and foremost this is listed as ‘windproof and water repellent’. In reality this means that unless you are caught in heavy rain, you should stay warm and dry in changeable weather (from the image above you can see how the water beads up on the surface and can be brushed away). I actually wore this during a total deluge and whilst it didn’t perform as well as the best golf rain jackets, it kept me fairly dry. 

For a garment that is so lightweight, the warmth on offer here took me by surprise. This has been achieved in no small part by the windproof protection and the addition of some padded areas, including the back of the neck. This creates a cosy, luxurious feel that I loved. 

Wearing this with one of the best golf sweaters underneath should provide you with all the cold weather protection you need. And, as the image below shows, the collar has a fairly snug fit which helps with warmth and keeping you dry.

As you would expect, the material Galvin Green has used (which is 100% recycled) is very stretchy. If you tend to find your swing feeling constrained in a jacket, this could be the solution. The fit is fairly traditional but the addition of the drawstring at the hem helps tailor the garment to your body. 

These features, combined with the simple, smart styling mean the Lyndon jacket is a real winner for any golfer who plays regularly in the autumn or winter. There’s enough protection from the elements to make this a go-to garment when you’re unsure what the weather will serve up. It’s also been designed with the golf swing in mind and it’s this combination that makes it well worth the premium price-tag.

The Ashworth Waterproof Rain Jacket brings a touch of color lacking in many other waterproofs whose designers seemingly feel the need to match dull, dismal, dark, rainy days with clothing of a similar hue.

To begin with, there is a cheerfulness about the three different designs this jacket comes in. All three offerings co-ordinate with the Ashworth Waterproof Rain Pant, which features in one colour - navy.

Importantly, the rain jacket fulfils its main function, that of keeping the rain out. Moreover, wearing it on a warm but wet day, I did not sweat up inside it, which is a trait that the majority of the best golf rain jackets have.

In testing, I found that even the items inside the two zipped pockets on either flank remained dry even after a real drenching. What's more, the pockets are deep enough to hold a scorecard or course planner comfortably.

It is also easy to swing in, aided by the stretch fabric, something that you also find on the best golf mid layers. It's worth noting that I can fall in between sizes and, in the large size, I found the sleeves were too short – I could swing okay in it, but only by pushing the sleeves up. This meant that I had to trade up to a XL, which was more ample around the midriff than I needed.

Fortunately, the jacket has two Velcro side adjustment tabs to make the garment snug around the midriff, and two drawstring cords at the bottom of the jacket to tighten it around the waist. The cuffs are elasticated and also have a Velcro tab over these to adjust the fit further.

Finally, the jacket can be easily folded or scrunched up inside a golf bag and, although it calls itself a jacket, it is essentially a waterproof top layer. It is a lightweight golf jacket and does not offer the thermal properties you may expect from an item calling itself a jacket.

All in all, though, this does everything you can wish from a waterproof top.

My first round with the StormForce PX8 rain jacket really put ProQuip’s claims to the test as the weather could only be described as biblical.

While it didn't make for the most enjoyable few hours on the golf course, it was a great opportunity for the StormForce PX8 to show what it was made of and, I'm happy to report, that it passed the examination with flying colours.

In all honesty, it impressed me before it was forced into action on the course, too. The styling really suited my eye and the subtle colour contrasts and panelling really impressed me. When you pick it up you immediately notice how lightweight the jacket, which is ideal for if you have limited space in your golf bag.

What's more, it also demonstrates a tangible resistance to creasing, which is a great quality for a rain jacket to possess as, depending on where you live, it’s often confined to your golf bag for hours on end. Also, I thought that the StormForce PX8 creates a positive impression straight away which, in-turn, makes you confident in its performance when needed on the course. It doesn’t disappoint.

Along with the look and feel, I was seriously impressed with the freedom of movement this waterproof jacket afforded me, thanks largely to the four-way stretch, something which you see on most of the best golf rain jackets. It didn’t inhibit or snag and, I’d go as far as to say, I can’t recall swinging with such freedom in any other waterproof garment. It’s whisper quiet, too – an important complementary factor.

That said, freedom of movement is no good if you’re still getting wet during a deluge. Happily, the StormForce PX8 excels in the water-resistance category. ProQuip is so confident in its technology that the jacket comes with a lifetime waterproof guarantee and, handily, it is also very good at regulating temperature – I don’t remember feeling clammy at any point, which is often the case with waterproof clothing. I wouldn’t say it’s the most warming of outer layers, but that’s not a waterproof’s main job.

The jacket boasts some other nice touches, too. The fine mesh lining adds to the comfort, the side adjustor tabs help you get a perfect fit, the waterproof zips deliver on that promise and the cushioned collar doesn’t irritate the underside of the chin, which I’ve experienced with other items of clothing.

Overall, the StormForce PX8 rain jacket is hard to fault, especially when you consider its modest price point relative to other models in the same sector of the market. It would be a welcome addition to anyone’s golf apparel arsenal.

My first outing with the Ping Taran 3L jacket really did test it to the limit as the rain came down in biblical proportions, so much so that we were forced in early after thunder and lightning developed in the area.

While it was fairly depressing that the golf had to be cut short, one positive note was the outstanding performance of the Taran 3L jacket. Put simply, I returned to the locker room and, barring a bit of moisture that had entered through the neck, my underlayers remained completely dry, which is something I’ve never experienced with other rain jackets when the conditions get that bad.

Not only that, it was comfortable to wear and didn’t impede my swing, thanks to the fully seam-sealed construction and a three-layer stretch waterproof fabric. Like the best golf waterproofs, the fit is also helped by an adjustable shock cord hem and adjustable cuff tabs, which meant there was no excess material to get in the way on the course.

Away from the performance, I really like the Blue 24 colorway, which stands out from the crowd alongside its often dark and somber competitors. What's more, the subtle Ping logos on the shoulder and the neck add a touch of class and the Ping Eye Mark printed inner lining livens things up further.

According to Ping, the jacket is said to be waterproof to 20,000mm and, in my first experience, I can certainly vouch for that. Like a windbreaker, it is also windproof and comes with a five-year warranty for peace of mind.

It features a two-way center front zip, making access to under layers more convenient and two generous front zip pockets, meaning you can keep a scorecard dry and close at hand.

All in all, the Ping Taran 3L jacket really did do everything that was asked of it in very testing conditions. In my opinion, it will be tough to beat in a very competitive sector of the market.

Whether or not you like this jacket will largely come down to any preference between lightweight and simple or slightly bulkier and feature-heavy.

The Leaden, part of Stuburt’s Rain Pro range, sits firmly in the former camp - an extremely light, unlined jacket that weighs very little and can therefore be folded or rolled away to a very compact size for storage.

In our opinion, it is a good-looking rain jacket despite its simplicity, with the odd white accent on the zip guard and left-hand pocket lifting it a touch visually.

In terms of performance, it boasts a 10,000mm waterproof rating and 5,000m/g breathability rating, so it keeps water out and lets internally generated moisture escape, with its thinness and lightness no doubt helping on the latter front.

The side pockets offer protected zips and a fleecy upper lining for a little extra hand warmth when required and the front zip guard does a great job of ensuring no water ingress there. There are inner pockets too on both sides, which is a nice touch.

The elasticated waist adjuster means you can really batten things down there if required, but those who also like a snug fit at the wrists may be a little disappointed as they are only partly elasticated with no adjustment available, so won’t appeal to those who prefer scope for a tighter fit around the wrists.

Unlike some of the best golf waterproofs, the fabric has no stretch properties, so make sure you try a few practice swings wearing it before deciding on what size as it may feel a tad more restricted in the shoulder and upper body area than some, which might require you to size up. This would especially be the case if you’re looking to wear it over a bulkier top or golf jumper, which you may need to do given its thinness.

Henry Ford once famously said customers could have his cars in any colour they wanted as long as it’s black. It’s the same thing with the Leaden jacket, but if you look around most courses on rainy days, that really isn’t going to deter too many golfers.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons here for the money you’re parting with.

As a longtime fan of the Under Armour apparel range, I was really excited to find out I would be reviewing their products.

Having tested plenty of golf apparel in the past, I was eager to see how this particular model stood up against the rest and, with high expectations set by previous experiences of Under Armour clothing, I was astounded that they were not only met but exceeded by this particular rain jacket.

Replacing an older version in my golf bag, the upgraded rain jacket was incomparable and I immediately prayed (perhaps foolishly) for a little bit of rain so that I could test it out on the golf course.

Well, as fortune would have it, I was in luck as I (well and truly) got what I wished for at Denham Golf Club in late September, but my trusty Under Armour Drive Rain Jacket stood firm against the conditions. In a true act of defiance, the jacket repelled the relentless stream of water and allowed me to continue my round in comfort – or at least as much comfort as you can feel in those sort of conditions.

Importantly, the jacket is super easy to store in your golf bag pockets and, when called into action, it was almost like adding a second skin. Like the best lightweight golf jackets, my movement was unrestricted and I remained cool enough that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the additional layer.

It has more than lived up to its promise of being 100% waterproof and, on the numerous occasions I have needed it since the weather has turned, the breathability continues to impress me. Even when the wind is whipping through the trees I feel unphased on the course thanks to its windproof construction, meaning that, as my playing partners consider calling it a day, I am ready to charge on to the end.

The secure zip hand pockets allow me to store my essential items for ready use, including my lucky tee and my golf glove while I’m sinking putts, and the adjustable cuffs and bottom hem mean that I can wear the jacket my way - even if the looser fit might not be to everyone's taste. Personally, the adjustable fit provides the necessary customisation I need.

All-in-all I have very little, that is negative, to say about this excellent rain jacket and it will take some convincing to force me into switching my allegiances at this stage. When you consider the price, which is perhaps shifting from middle of the road into higher-end territory, I feel it provides good value for money and, from my early experiences, feel as though this particular investment will stand the test of time.

Testing waterproofs can be a tricky business depending on the weather. You need it to be raining, but you don’t want it to be raining too much as nobody likes to play golf in a biblical monsoon. There have been times when the lack of rain has resulted in me standing in my garden being hosed down by my wife to ensure that the waterproofs I am reviewing are indeed waterproof but, when it came to testing the Mizuno 20K Waterproof Jacket, there were no such problems as it absolutely chucked it down!

In fact, I’ve never been out on the golf course in worse conditions than I was on this late September day at Denham Golf Club for the Golf Monthly Winter Testing Day. The rain arrived around the turn and, by halfway through the back nine, it was absolutely lashing down to the point that we had to walk in after playing the 15th as the thunder and lightning arrived.

There could have been no sterner test of a waterproof jacket than this, but I can say that by and large the Mizuno 20K stood up to the challenge very well. By the time I reached the car park I was drenched, but the polo shirt I was wearing under the jacket was mostly dry. I say mostly because some water did get in, but only because the jacket has no hood. The rain was so heavy that water was running from my head and down the back of my neck, so the collar and shoulders of my polo was a bit wet, but everywhere else was fine.

The lack of a hood is not ideal, especially when the weather is as bad as it was that day, but in fairness I own several waterproof jackets and not one of them has a hood either. It’s never been a problem for me before as, in normal rainy conditions, it’s fine. I’d never been caught in such a torrential downpour though and I did find myself angrily asking “why doesn’t this thing have a bloody hood?” I didn’t have a cap either, but that’s on me. It didn’t help that my three playing partners all had hoods!

Lack of hood aside though, the jacket performed extremely well and did its job. Aesthetically it’s nice despite being quite simple looking. I tested the navy version but it is also available in black. The navy is nice, especially when paired with the matching trousers. The top half is navy and the bottom half is grey, but there is a striking turquoise zipper which really pops against the navy. The Mizuno branding is obvious but not too in your face. There’s the simple running bird logo on the right breast and some subtle writing that runs parallel with the zip. All in all it’s a nice jacket.

When I first put the jacket on I was worried that it was way too big. Getting the correct size can often be tricky with waterproofs as not all XLs are created equally and they can vary quite a lot from brand to brand. This felt massive when I first tried it on but there are adjustable velcro straps on the back and on the sleeves which when tightened really sharpen up the fit. This makes it suitable for a range of sizes and because it is so adjustable you can wrap up warm in the with an extra jumper or hoodie and just loosen the velcro straps at the back so it isn’t too tight. There’s a large flap on the back which ensures plenty of air can get in to prevent it getting too hot and sticky in there.

Some other waterproof golf jackets I have are not just for the golf course. Often I’ll wear them day to day as they are designed to be more than just an emergency garment you throw on when it’s raining. I wouldn’t put the Mizuno 20K in this category as it’s fairly basic. It does not have thermal lining and it just has the two simple side pockets, so this is very much something I would keep in the golf bag as an insurance policy against the good old British weather. It won’t be particularly warm in the winter, like the best golf sweaters, but the waterproof qualities are top notch and it’s lightweight enough that it will fold down nice and small, so it can be thrown in a stand bag if you want to travel light in the summer, or you can keep it in the cart bag in the winter.

I have covered golf apparel for several years now and it seems like the market has loads of new brands all trying to get a piece of the golf pie. As a result it can be pretty difficult to differentiate yourself from the pack but one brand which caught my eye recently on the back of Brian Harman was Zero Restriction. And after organizing testing samples, one specific product which I think is one of the best golf rain jackets anywhere right now, is The Conqueror jacket. Now calling a jacket ‘The Conqueror’ is a bold move as the performance has to be outstanding but it delivered in every way I wanted it to. 

The best golf rain gear obviously has to have waterproofing as the core factor in its design and the seam-sealed finish and DWR coating means the elements are kept at bay brilliantly here. Water beaded off beautifully and the fully-lined hood was the perfect size for me, although it can be adjusted using the drawcords at the front or back of the hood. I also really liked the shapeable brim too so I can mold it to whatever shape I want and it helps keep the elements out because it has some strength to it. Even in strong winds it retained its shape and didn’t flap around which is a problem I have experienced on other models. 

I found the jacket to be supremely comfortable too, it worked brilliantly with other mid layers and the adjustability on offer allowed me to really dial in the perfect fit for me. I also noticed that the breathability was good too. I dislike wearing golf rain jackets sometimes as you get too sweaty when walking and it feels uncomfortable but there were no such issues here as it felt lightweight and breathable. 

But what really elevates this lightweight jacket further is the fact not only have Zero Restriction nailed the larger elements like waterproofing and comfort, but also the smaller design features which all add up to make a top performing garment. Every bit of the jacket seems well thought out, the already mentioned adjustability elements are in the perfect places and are simple to use, whilst I liked the longer back of the jacket so it didn't ride up during the swing too. I should also mention the look of the jacket, there are three colors to choose from, each of which are understated but have enough going on to differentiate it from other jackets on the market. I haven’t seen cuff fasteners like these before for example. This simplicity of design also enhances versatility too because it is a jacket that can be used anywhere, in fact I have used it off the course for hikes and long walks too. 

Now finally I should mention the price because not beating around the bush, it has a premium price, but this is an ultra-premium product so it makes sense to me. And given it is a jacket for everywhere, and the level of performance is so high, there is a degree of value here.

I’ll be honest and say that I’ve never been a massive fan of playing in a rain jacket and that I’m very much a fair weather golfer. I’ve always struggled to balance being warm on the course, staying dry and actually being able to still swing a club in a repeatable manner but when I saw how sleek the G/FORE Weather Resistant Repeller 2.0 jacket looked, I couldn’t help but want to put it to the test.

It’s worth mentioning straight away from a looks standpoint that I think this jacket's looks are pretty much unrivaled in the waterproof jacket space. The fit is slim enough to give it some real shape and not look boxy, yet loose enough and made from some premium materials so you never feel overly restricted when wearing it, even over the top of a mid layer. A silicone ‘circle G’ logo is on the chest and looks really smart against the black material of the jacket. On the rear there is a separate panel that gives this jacket a more individual and modern look. The panel itself has the G/FORE logo stamped through it just adding to the attention to detail.

The ability to move freely in this jacket was something that impressed me from the moment I slipped it on, albeit making swings in front of the mirror in my bedroom. The real test would be how it performed out on the course and in inclement weather. Luckily for me, the heavens opened just as I tee’d off at Denham golf club and the Repeller 2.0 jacket was put straight to work.

The three layer stretch woven nylon shell ensures a comfortable wear and allows for a 4-way stretch - something I find particularly beneficial around my back and leading shoulder on the back swing. The shell of this lightweight jacket is made from a waterproof fabric to withstand some pretty heavy rainfall and that’s exactly what I received on an Autumnal day at one of the finest courses in Uxbridge.

While the jacket did hold up extremely well for the first six holes or so, the rain increasingly became heavier. Initially, the rain beaded off the jacket effortlessly but as the round went on, it started to struggle with the severity of the downpour. It’s worth noting that I was carrying my bag that was at this point soaked through and the saturated straps and comfort panel were probably demanding a little too much from the Repeller 2.0 jacket. I started to feel the cold and damp seep through onto my polo shirt where my bag straps rested which did eventually make me extremely cold and things a little uncomfortable.

I have tested this jacket again since the day at Denham where I opted to use an electric trolley and it did seem to cope better without the pressure of the wet straps pinning it down. The problem I face is that I prefer to carry and cannot predict when I may get caught in a rainstorm and will need the protection of a waterproof jacket. For a light shower, I have no doubts this waterproof jacket would be absolutely perfect but if, like me, you prefer to carry your bag, there may be more practical options. While this G/FORE Repeller 2.0 jacket ticks all the boxes for looks, initial comfort and a big one for me - the ability to actually swing without being restricted, I can’t help but feel there are waterproof jackets with a stronger level of water resistance.

Malbon is a brand making some serious waves within golf. Its crossover streetwear style has divided opinion amongst some golf fans and caused quite the furor at the 2024 Masters when Jason Day wore some of the brand's more statement pieces, even being asked to remove a particular vest by the powers that be at Augusta National at one point.

I for one am a huge fan of the brand and its progressive attitude towards golf fashion and opening the game up to a youth that may not have considered it ‘cool’ before. I actually wrote a piece staunchly defending the brand and Jason Day’s clothing choices that provoked a very strong reaction shortly after the Masters.

I was delighted to hear that I would be receiving a package of samples to try out from Malbon for our Autumn/Winter testing here at Golf Monthly, and the first piece I pulled out was the Cascade LS Windshirt. Looking to sit amongst some of the best golf windbreakers, I could tell immediately that I was going to love this top just from the colorway which is mainly black but with some really cool olive and purple accents that make it really pop, particularly on the back where the Malbon logo sits boldly in that olive color. I could also tell that I was going to love it from the weight, or in fact lack of it! The 100% polyester construction gives plenty of protection against the elements but the lightweight design and vent opening on the back provide real breathability like many of the best lightweight golf jackets.

So I was sold straight away, but the aesthetics would be no good if it didn’t fit well right? I am delighted to report that the L size fitted my 6ft 3” frame beautifully, not too tight as to impinge movement but also not even close to baggy enough to be distracting on a backswing. I would say that this piece sits right in the middle of a ‘regular’ fit for me making it very accessible to all shapes and sizes like so many of the best golf mid layers.

Along with the stunning aesthetics and comfortable fit, this is a wind shirt laden with features too. Contrast rib knit collar and cuffs enhance the comfort and look while the mesh pocket on the left chest is a cool addition that makes it standout further. The elastic cord on the waistband allows you to tailor the fit to your requirements and the vent on the back offers welcome breathability.

There is nothing I don’t love about this top and this thing will be a staple of my wardrobe for the foreseeable future, so don’t blame me if you get bored of seeing it on our Golf Monthly YouTube videos! You can pick up the Cascade LS wind shirt for $168/£180 and for what is on offer, I think this is well priced.

Swedish company Galvin Green has long-since set the standard for golf waterproofs and the Ames is the latest in a long line of excellent golf rain jackets designed to make playing in the rain as pleasurable an experience as possible. It benefits from a new PFC-free three-layer fabric, which the brand claims to be its stretchiest ever jacket, thanks to its Pertex Shield Stretch technology. More on that later.

I have worn this jacket for at least five rounds now and in that time have experienced all weathers, which has been the ideal testing ground for a jacket that makes some big claims and comes with a premium price tag of $399. First impressions come in the form of looks and feel and this jacket really does appeal visually with the pattern on the chest and the subtle branding on the sleeve and arm. It does, in fact, come in six eye-catching colors so you can pick a palette that suits your taste more easily than with most other golf waterproofs. The feel of the material is soft and I was really surprised by how lightweight the jacket is overall - you could certainly class it as a lightweight golf jacket. Slide your arms in the sleeves (which is easy, by the way, thanks to the ‘Slide and Glide’ interior) and you barely notice you’ve got anything on, which is impressive given the level of protection from the elements the Ames offers.

I’ve been caught in numerous downpours on the course while wearing this jacket and two things stood out. Firstly, it was almost like the fabric repelled water like when you try and join the same poles on a magnet. The droplets bead off almost instantly, leaving barely a trace behind - helping to maintain its lightweight properties. The second thing I quickly noticed was how playable this jacket is. It’s hard to say with any certainty if the Ames is indeed Galvin Green’s stretchiest jacket, but there is undoubtedly a high degree of flexibility in the fabric which ensures your arms can maintain the range of motion you’re accustomed to. When playing in waterproofs, we’re often forced to accommodate with shorter swings that reduce swing speed and puts our timing off track, but this wasn’t the case here.

I think the playability is enhanced by the other features this jacket possesses that create a tailored fit for the golfer, whether that’s the adjustable Velcro cuffs (which are also elasticated), the shaped sleeves, chest width tabs and the drawstring at the hem all combining to ensure excess fabric doesn’t get in the way. The zipped front pockets are also a welcome inclusion as a place to securely store small items like balls or tees or simply somewhere convenient to rest your hands and keep them dry while waiting to play your shot. I loved the hood on the Amos jacket, but I don't miss it on the Ames - although the Amos probably has more off-course versatility.

At the end of the day, no-one wants to buy a waterproof golf jacket - it makes the prospect of playing in bad weather real - but you need to be prepared to face whatever Mother Nature throws at you and in the Ames jacket, you’ll be giving yourself the best chance of playing through the wind and rain and coming out the other side with a decent score still on the card.

It's difficult to launch a new golf apparel brand in the current market. With so many big and small brands out there making some of the best golf clothing for all sizes and styles, how can you possibly stand out? High quality, sustainable and unique garments is certainly one way to do that, and that's the goal of new apparel brand Koi Golf, which has come to market with a handful of impressive pieces including this 14/ zip. 

Of the brands I've tried most recently, Reflo and Adidas are the ones that excel in this space. Using recycled polyester, garments from these two brands in particular excel in quality, style and sustainable credentials. Koi Golf is another brand entering this space, launching with a goal to shift people away from fast fashion by buying higher quality, less often. 

The first thing I noticed was how unique the design was. Often, the best golf mid layers are either crewnecks or higher collars like on a traditional quarter zip but this has a much more conventional collar like you'd see on the best golf polos. I like this design a lot. It's something a bit new and fresh while also giving the 1/4 zip a unique look that is as smart as it is athletic. Like most of the best modern golf clothing, it looks as comfortable on the golf course as it does off it, and the subtle Koi branding on the left chest means it certainly doesn't scream golf when you take it off the course. 

So, what makes this a more sustainable product? Aside from the quality, which will mean it lasts for longer and you don't have to buy as often, Koi Golf has sourced 100% organic cotton to make this garment. Organic cotton is a much more sustainable cotton produced without the use of synthetic pesticides, artificial fertiliser and other toxic chemicals. Koi Golf sources and manufacturers these products from a factory in Portugal, also meaning less shipping time and energy to those in the UK. 

The quality is evident as soon as you take it out of the 100% recyclable packaging. We've all felt a good quality garment in our hands before and this 1/4 zip had all the hallmarks of high quality. A heavy fabric that's soft to the touch, I can tell this 1/4 zip will last the test of time and look as fresh as it did on my first wear as it will on my 100th. 

Sustainable clothing can have an unhelpful stereotype that it is of a poorer quality than garments made using virgin polyester. This 1/4 zip from Koi does a lot to quash those stereotypes and is proof that sustainable clothing can often be of an even higher quality. It's warm too. Certainly not a lightweight midlayer you'd wear when the weather is only slightly chillier, this is a chunkier mid layer you'd want to use when the temperature really dips. It also has a larger fit that some other mid layers I've tested, but it in no way inhibited the swing. 

This 1/4 zip is one of a few of Koi Golf's first launch of products, which also features a polo short, t-shirt and other accessories like socks. For a first drop, I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this 1/4 zip. The quality out of the packaging is immediate and, at £70, sits somewhere in the mid price point for these type of garments, despite feeling and looking a lot more premium that that. But, as the brand has committed to, this will be a purchase of serious quality, re-wearability and versatility that I think a lot of golfers will really appreciate. I've been told there's a lot more to come from Koi Golf over the next few years, and this is definitely one of golf's newest apparel brands people need to be looking out for. 

Finding a versatile quarter zip that seamlessly transitions from the course to casual wear can be difficult, especially since the mid-layer category is already so vast. If that’s what you’re looking for, Castore Men’s Golf Club Classic quarter zip could be for you…

In testing, we found its high-stretch, thick fabric to be remarkably comfortable and—crucially—flexible for an unimpeded swing. The high-stretch fabric gives the appearance of a tailored look and feels snug with a shirt underneath. If you’re not a fan of the tailored look, you can always go for a size up. You’ll be glad to hear the thick fabric doesn’t make the quarter zip feel too heavy or bulky either.

Aesthetically, it’s a simple, sleek and clean design that could easily be worn off the course, around town or even to the pub. The set-in long sleeves and stand collar really do add a ‘casual’ look without getting in the way of performance. The 5 colorways make it easy to style this with other golf clothing. We had no qualms with the Castore branding on the left chest but found the branding on the back to be unsightly. The quarter zip is good quality and doesn’t feel flimsy at all. 

Its water-resistant Protek technology is a great defense against light showers. But if you’re playing in heavy rainfall, we’d obviously recommend waterproofs. The logo and branding might not be for you but overall we think this is a solid quarter zip with a versatile design at a fair price point. 

adidas is one of the most visible golf clothing brands in golf with some high-profile tour representation in Collin Morikawa, Tyrrell Hatton, and Ludivg Aberg. I was lucky enough to be sent a number of items from adidas, including the Ultimate365 Tour Heat.RDY Polo Shirt. No thanks to the British winter, I have managed to get a good few wears out of it now, so here are my thoughts.

My favorite feature of this extremely comfortable polo is the HEAT.DRY technology which maximizes airflow and does a great job of keeping you cool when the temperature rises.  The regular fit is still tailored enough to be flattering, without being clingy, which is perfect for a self-conscious 40-year-old father of two who has skipped one too many gym sessions recently! In addition to the HEAT.DRY tech, there are also side vents to enhance the comfort in heat even further. The stretch knit material provides real freedom of movement throughout the golf swing which is a hallmark of the best polo shirts for golf.

The Ultimate365 Tour Heat.RDY Polo Shirt is made from 100% recycled materials which is a really positive move from adidas, and one that will please the sustainability-conscious. 

From a styling point of view, the two-button, blade-style collar provides a modern contemporary look and the contrasting collar and cuffs give some definition and structure to the polo. The Ultimate365 Tour Heat.RDY Polo Shirt is a really versatile crossover piece that I have worn off the course just as much as on.

Available in the blue colorway I tested, or in a slightly brighter Crystal/Jade option, this is an extremely stylish, comfortable, and environmentally conscious golf polo shirt, so if you are looking ahead to enhance your summer wardrobe, the adidas Ultimate365 Tour Heat.RDY Polo Shirt is well worth a look.

When you look at the golf clothing market, you really are spoilt for choice, with multiple brands offering multiple different options... However, if you are wanting one of the most premium apparel providers, then look no further than G/FORE!

Producing everything from golf shoes to clothing, in this review we have put their Brushed Back Tech Quarter Zip Pullover through its paces, an item that, you could argue, is slightly different to what we are used to seeing with the G/FORE brand.

Like the best golf quarter zips, looks play a huge part and, with the Brushed Back Tech, it's no exception, as the subtle eye-catching aesthetic gives it a wide-range of appeal to many golfers. 

As mentioned, it is somewhat of a step away from the bolder, louder prints we are so used to seeing from the clothing brand, but this is no issue whatsoever, as it features a G/FORE logo when the zip is fully pulled up and is also available in numerous block colorways so, whatever outfit you choose for the day, it should suit.

Constructed of brushed back tech terry fabric, it is incredibly soft to the touch and very stretchable. Certainly, in testing, we found that it did not restrict the swing at all, allowing to commit fully to every shot. What's more, despite being super lightweight and thin, it has good of levels of warmth, meaning it can be worn all-year round as part of a layered outfit, or even with a golf vest.

If we were to list one slight negative, it is that the sleeves don't have elasticated cuffs, so it does mean the fit can be a little hit and miss depending on your arm length. However, the overall comfort we found from this pullover was great and certainly up there with other models on the market.

One final point is that the Brushed Back Tech Quarter Zip Pullover is constructed with moisture-wicking material that we would find in the best lightweight golf jackets, whilst the UV protection on offer only heightens it further as a garment that is perfect all weather conditions. Put simply, G/FORE have delivered once again in the premium sector!

As summer approaches, it's time to gear up with lightweight clothing to keep you cooler during those warmer sessions. Naturally, the golf shorts category is already saturated with many of the traditional styles such as the fitted chino. Shorts that are lightweight, comfortable and standout are less common.  

That's where the Ping Mr Ping Vault shorts come in...

The material is as light as a feather (so light you almost forget you're wearing anything at all) and stretchy. But that doesn't make the shorts feel cheap. The shorts had a 'premium-feel' that made them the perfect choice for one my ventures out onto the course during a warm April day in England. They're versatile enough to make an excellent addition to your holiday suitcase, too.

The Mr Ping Vault shorts certainly have a nice fit that isn't intrusive. Crucially, I found the shorts to cause no chafing. This can be incredibly frustrating for many golfers during the summer season, but I had no such issues there during my trips around the course.

Pockets are important as well. The Mr Ping Vault option I tested has two adequately-sized spaces on the side for on-course accessories. There's also a handy additional compartment on the right side for your ball marker, tees, or a pencil. I'm fond of this feature - and it's especially useful if you're carrying items with sentimental value.

As you'd expect, the two rear pockets are also capable of fitting a scorecard and gloves. The left-rear pocket has a button and a loop function to seal your items. This feature can sometimes be fiddly and difficult to close, but Ping nailed this design detail.

The downside is the aesthetic. While the Mr Ping logo looks good neatly positioned on the Mr Ping Polo II, for example, I wasn't a fan of the print plastered across the the Mr Ping Vault shorts - I just couldn't get on board with the look.

The light-grey color made it difficult to style and match properly with some of the other designer golf clothing in my wardrobe. White golf shoes are a must if the Mr Ping Vault shorts are to be successfully carried off. Of course, looks and aesthetics are a subjective, personal choice...

Practically, the Mr Ping Vault shorts perform very well. And who knows, maybe there's plenty of other golfers who love the unique print. One things for sure, you'll definitely stand out from the crowd wearing these shorts.

Since the early 2000s, Under Armour has been producing premium golf apparel that is worn by the likes of multiple-time Major winner, Jordan Spieth. There have been many excellent apparel items from the brand and, in the case of the Tour Tips Full-Zip Bomber Jacket, it's safe to say Under Armour have done it again!

Constructed of a double-knit fabric, the first thing I noticed when out the box is how soft and lightweight the material is. Unlike some of the best golf jackets on the market, the Bomber doesn't have a lining, but the fabric used still provided excellent insulation that worked perfectly when playing an early morning round, or a round in the UK...

Where I felt the jacket really stood out, though, was how non-restrictive it was in the swing. Like many of the best Under Armour golf clothing, it features four-way stretch that allowed me to commit to every shot on the course. Admittedly, the arms were ever so slightly baggy, but not to the point where they impeded me, especially as the cuffs kept the material up when rolled up the arm.

Another big bonus is how the jacket is laid out. Like the various midlayers, jackets and hoodies on the market, it has two pockets on the front, but also a pocket situated on the left side of the chest which is perfect for storing your phone or other necessities. Although it is a great feature, it may be better suited to off-course activities, as having an item placed in the pocket during the swing can be a tad distracting.

Importantly, if conditions do change when out on the course, the single-zip design means it can be taken on and off quickly, whilst the material does perform well if water comes into the equation. Obviously, with the thickness, you would likely not wear this in hotter temperatures, but for spring and early morning rounds, it excels in temperature control.

So, performance and ease of use-wise, the Tour Tips Jacket delivers in spades and, when it comes to looks, it certainly doesn't disappoint. The model I tested featured in a 'Silt and Black' colorway, which I adored, as the black lines on the shoulders really complemented the lighter shade of the body and the Under Armour branding running down the spine was very subtle.

Could the brand include more colors than the two available (Silt/Black and Black/White)? Possibly. However, this is one of the unusual times where I don't mind the lack of color choices, as the light and dark options should appeal to a wide range of tastes.

Overall, I am seriously impressed by the Under Armour Tour Tips Full-Zip Bomber Jacket. Not only is it one of the most comfortable items of clothing now in my closet, but the premium look and feel excel, both on and off the course. If you are looking for a new jacket, I would seriously consider this model.

Reflo is a brand that’s been on our radar since we first tested its best-selling Lapter hoodie last year. The brand was built on the backbone of sustainability with many of its garments being made fully from recycled materials. The Tobol is an example of Relfo’s 100% recycled construction and is one of the brand’s best golf polos. There’s certainly a misconception that clothes made from recycled materials are somehow of a poorer quality. The Tobol polo does a lot to quash that misconception and features the quality and comfort of a leading garment, all with the added benefit of knowing that virgin polyester hasn’t been used to make it. It fits really well and washes well too, an important thing to consider when buying any clothing. Having worn it on and off for the last three months, it comes out of the wash every time looking like it did the first day I wore it. 

Reflo's sustainable practices don't end at the garment. Each product arrives in a bag made from plants, not plastic. The bag itself is 100% biodegradable and will compost in just six months. It's without a doubt the most sustainable golf apparel brand I've had the pleasure of using and will be music to the ears of golfers and non-golfers alike who are trying to better their own carbon footprint. I hope it does a lot to educate other manufacturers into how to better their own practices when it comes to sustainability, packaging and where it sources its labor from. 

There’s a growing trend emerging for collarless polos - one which I’m a big fan of. Relfo has executed that style well here, although I do wish the fixture was made using buttons instead of the zip. It does however make for a very versatile look that doesn’t scream golf while still looking very much at home on the course. I’ve worn this to go to the gym and play tennis in as well, so there really is a lot of wear to be had from this polo outside of golf. That makes the £70 RRP make a lot more sense when you consider the quality, sustainable production method and amount you’ll be able to wear the Tobol out and about. 

Overall I was suitably impressed with this polo shirt. The style is spot on and the quality and versatility speak for themselves as soon as you slip it on. For golfers looking to better their carbon footprint and who value real quality in their apparel, the Tobol - and Reflo as a whole - is something you should really consider.

KJUS is a brand initially founded in Switzerland and now sets up base in Colorado, US. The brand is known for their premium apparel particularly within the golf and ski sectors and so I was particularly excited to take the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0  Jacket out, onto the golf course to see how it compared to some of the best waterproofs I have already tested.

The first thing you notice about the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 jacket is the quality in design and materials used. I’m someone who has always struggled with rain jackets due to them feeling restricting around my back and shoulders and so my eyes lit up when I zipped up this jacket and felt free while making my practice swings. A lot of waterproof jackets sacrifice stretch but that certainly isn’t the case when it comes to the 3L 3.0 jacket thanks to what the brand call body-zoned X-stretch panels which allow for maximum stretch in the areas you need it most. I would go as far to say that this waterproof jacket offered the same levels of comfort and stretch as some of the best mid layers I have worn.

Not only does this jacket feel comfortable and could be worn over just a golf polo but the fit is athletic, without being too slim. There are elastic draw-cords which allow you to tighten the jacket around the waist to your liking and the Velcro on the sleeves help keep the fit tight and restricts water running down your arm. The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 jacket did an excellent job in seeing beads of water seamlessly fall off this jacket as the rain tumbled down thanks to the non-porous, stretchable membrane of this jacket and was delighted to be able to take off my jacket after my round and my sweater still be completely dry.

The ‘K’ logo is subtle and discreet which I believe is a true sign of a premium brand, letting the performance of the product do the talking. You will see this logo on the collar as well as on the rear of the jacket towards the right shoulder. While this jacket is designed for cooler temperatures, it is extremely breathable and won’t have you standing there as if you were in a sauna like some other waterproof jackets. 

While this jacket is premium in price, coming to retail at $549, so is the look and performance. If you’re a golfer who likes to brave the elements and get out on the course in the rain then you’ll be hard pressed to find a better waterproof jacket than the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0.

Away from the golf course, I like to wear colorful and patterned clothing, particularly in summer. The ‘party shirt’ trend has been going for several years now and shows no signs of abating, and happily for me, more and more manufacturers are producing golf polos that fit very much into the aforementioned category. 

The Penguin Martini Print Golf Polo Shirt is absolutely bursting with personality, character and color, but it’s also a high-quality garment in terms of production and technology. I genuinely can’t remember liking another polo shirt more and I’d go so far as to say it’s my new favorite men's golf shirt.

That said, it’s not going to have universal appeal. Those who are more traditional in their outlook and clothing choices will almost certainly look elsewhere and subtlety isn’t the name of the game when it comes to this top. But I love the azure, ‘blue atoll’ color scheme, as well as the martini glasses, cocktail shakers, dice and penguins dotted all over this polo. It’s a garment that will certainly turn heads and make an impression.

When it comes to golf, though, you need a polo shirt that looks good and performs. Color aesthetics are no good if you have poor mobility or temperature regulation. Thankfully, style hasn’t come at the expense of functionality.

The Martini Print polo is lightweight and stretchy, enabling a full range of motion through each shot. It fits nicely to your figure without being too tight and the single-knit fabric provides plenty of durability. In this day and age, environmental responsibility and sustainability is at the forefront of a lot of people’s minds, so it’s good to know this polo is crafted from recycled polyester. 

The short sleeves are just the right length, it works well with mid-layers/quarter zips, and the moisture-wicking technology keeps you dry and comfortable – as does the blend of fabrics used. The only negative I can think of is that it doesn’t come in different color schemes.

Some golf hoodies are thick and bulky like the kind you’d sit around the house in, others are lighter and more golf performance based. The Sun Hoodie from FootJoy is most certainly the latter. This hoodie is extremely light and easy to pack away in your bag—and it’s a sportier, more athletic garment compared to the traditional hoodies that you might wear day to day.

Not everyone has jumped onto the golf hoodies bandwagon; there are those who still don’t think they have a place on the course. However, more and more golfers— particularly those under the age of 30—are wearing them out on the fairways. Golf, after all, is a sport. We digress…

The Sun Hoodie is very much a spring/summer—it’s not going to offer you a great deal of warmth in the winter. However, for those chilly mornings or cool early evenings on the fairways, this layer is a really convenient option. 

The four-way stretch fabric ensures that you can swing a club without feeling at all restricted, and because it’s so light it provides just the right amount of warmth to keep you from feeling as though you need something heavier. No one really wants to be pulling on bulkier layers in the summer months. 

This type of garment might not appeal to everyone, but the Sun Hoodie is sure to be a hit with hoodie fans. It’s a nice layer to warm up in on the range. Given its modern, sporty looks, it can definitely be worn off the course, too, so you’ll probably find yourself slipping it on before a gym session.

The Galvin Green Amos is a top-of-the-range waterproof golf jacket – one that’s been designed to keep every drop of rain out so that you can stay focused on performing to your best.

It’s not easy to keep innovating in this category, but the Swedish brand has managed to create another high-tech piece with a difference – a lightweight rain jacket with a hood. It can’t be detached, so not everyone will like what is more of an anorak style, but hoods have their uses on the golf course, we we found out to our delight during testing!

Let’s start with the technology. As we’ve come to expect from Galvin Green, makers of some of the best golf waterproofs, every garment and item of outerwear is packed with technology and has a premium look and feel. The Amos is no different: it’s wonderfully light and stretchy and that attention to detail Galvin Green is renowned for is obvious.

The key piece of technology at play in the Amos is the brand’s Gore-Tex Paclite fabric with stretch technology, which ensures optimal freedom of movement. It’s also very light and easy to pack away in your golf bag, which makes it convenient to take out on a showery day.

I put the Amos through its paces over two rounds, where the rain was biblical. I found that the water didn’t bead off as quickly as it did compared to the Galvin Green Armstrong jacket, but that’s not to say it’s not waterproof – it is. Compared to the Armstrong jacket, however, the fabric has a softer feel, which I prefer and it means it isn't as loud when you swing. 

The biggest plus, for me, was the hood. I’m not sure that you can call a hood groundbreaking, but I’m a big fan – the reason being that it proved very useful when chipping and putting during a deluge. When you’re playing shots that don’t require as much movement of the body, the hood is really effective in keeping out beads of rain that can so often distract you when you feel a drop going down the back of your neck or forehead. It can feel a little restrictive when making full swings in the rain, especially when the drawstring is tightened, but it's not impossible to make good contact.

The hood also has a bit of a peak – a firmer structure not too dissimilar to a cap, which just means the fabric doesn't flap loosely around your head. Combined with a drawstring, you should find it really comfortable to wear in rainy weather, even when you have to tighten it more. This is a game-changing feature that makes it stand out amongst the best golf rain jackets for sure.

In terms of the overall fit, the Amos came up a touch larger than I was expecting it to - I'm typically a size medium in Galvin Green but this was on the baggy side. That said, the fit was pretty good and you can customise it via the drawstring at the hem and the adjustable Velcro cuffs. The pockets (chest and front) have quality zips for convenient and secure storage while the shaped sleeves ensure that the jacket moves with your swing.

Price-wise, we’re talking top-of-the-range, and that comes with a price – just north of $450 (£369.00). If you’re a Galvin Green fan looking for a new waterproof jacket, that’s not going to deter you as you know what you’re getting. Whether you choose to purchase this particular garment will probably come down to whether or not you like the idea of wearing a hood when it rains, as opposed to a waterproof hat or cap – simple as that. But I've really enjoyed wearing this jacket, even when it's not raining and away from the course too - such is the versatile, stylish design the Amos boasts.

Golf fashion is something that has drastically changed over the past couple of years thanks to the influx of younger people taking up the game and speaking out for more comfort and casual style on the golf course. While I’m someone who loves a classic sweater, polo and trousers combination, I can get behind a few of the changes we have allowed when it comes to apparel, such as the introduction of the hoodie. Since Tyrrell Hatton rocked up to the BMW PGA Championship in a hoodie a few years back, the best golf hoodies have been introduced into many golfers wardrobes. If you're a hoodie wearer on the course, the new TravisMathew Coastal Cloud hoodie is certainly one you’re going to want to add to your collection.

While I believe feeling good about yourself and looking the part on the course is important, comfort is right up there as a necessity and the TravisMathew Coastal Cloud hoodie offers bundles of it. The brand has created what they call FiberSoft fabric - a combination of cotton and spandex, to create what honestly may be the softest fabric I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. The super soft material is enough to keep you warm on days with a slight breeze so you don’t have to layer up with an extra jacket, but is also extremely breathable, meaning you don’t feel overly hot or sweaty while walking the fairways.

The look of the Coastal Cloud hoodie is clean and premium, with a subtle TravisMathew logo in small print across the chest and kangaroo pocket across the front. While I personally would rather have this hoodie without the kangaroo pocket, it did come in handy keeping my hands warm on cooler days, I just think it could look even more clean without it. The same applies for the drawstrings. While I love the look and comfort of the hoodie, I wouldn’t personally put the hood up on the course and so the drawstrings are somewhat irrelevant. This is me being particularly picky though as they don’t really interfere while swinging, again, I just think the look would be even more clean without them.

Thanks to the clean looks and subtle branding of the TravisMathew Cloud hoodie, it has to be one of the most versatile pieces of golf apparel on the market. This hoodie is smart enough to look great on the course with one of the best golf polo’s and pair of trousers or golf shorts, but equally looks casual enough to wear out to dinner or for a few beers at the bar after a round. The fit is fairly tight across the chest and shoulders without feeling restricting and proceeds to get gradually getting looser around the stomach.

The Coastal Cloud hoodie is available in 5 colorways and retails at $159/£119. While this price-tag is fairly punchy for a hoodie, I feel the quality of material and versatility is worth the purchase.

Golf hoodies are now a widely accepted fashion accessory on golf course across the world. Whatever your opinion on the more casual style, there's no denying it has been a very popular addition to the golfer's wardrobe. The best golf hoodies need to be subtle and athletic enough to play golf in, while also being - enter the Lapter hoodie from Reflo. 

Reflo, for those who haven't yet heard of the brand, was founded in 2021 and focuses on sustainability and performance specialising in golf but also catering for gym goers, runners and other sports like tennis and padel. We had the pleasure of testing it's bold Congo polo shirt last year, a polo that took its place in our Editor's Choice list for 2023.

The brand is back with a bang in 2024, with its new range updating some of the classic designs from recent years, like this Lapter hoodie, as well as some new styles. During my testing, I was thoroughly impressed with the Lapter hoodie. Some minor tweaks to the previous version include a relocated logo on the chest and some tweaks to the drawstrings, but otherwise much is the same and its a beautifully subtle yet stylish design that I think blends in perfectly on and off the golf course. 

I was amazed at the quality of material on the Lapter - you simply wouldn't be able to tell its made from 92% recycled polyester. It's lightweight enough for you to comfortably play golf in while also being breathable enough to be worn in multiple different weather conditions. I tested it while playing golf on the Portuguese island of Maderia and it was as perfectly adept at keeping me warm during the chilly morning while I didn't become sweaty or clammy as the temperatures rose throughout the day. While the pocket on the front is useful for storage off the course, I wouldn't bank on keeping much in there bar a few tees or a ball marker while you're playing, simply because there are no zips to keep things in place. 

For each hoodie purchased from Reflo, one new tree is planted, the equivalent of 43 plastic bottles are saved from entering landfill, while a whopping 70% less carbon is emitted thanks to Reflo's material sourcing and production methods. From my work with other golf apparel brands, the majority of which are doing commendable jobs at beginning to better focus their practices sustainably, none are in the same category as what Reflo has produced from its latest range. That's primarily because Reflo was created from the outset as a brand with sustainable practices at its very core, and it 

I don't want sustainability to be the only takeaway from this review though, and Reflo's products hold up against the very best in the business on quality and style alone with its leading sustainability practices a huge added bonus.  

Reflo's sustainable practices don't end at the garment. Each product, including the Lapter I was sent, arrives in a bag made from plants, not plastic. The bag itself is 100% biodegradable and will compost in just six months. It's without a doubt the most sustainable golf apparel brand I've had the pleasure of using and will be music to the ears of golfers and non-golfers alike who are trying to better their own carbon footprint. I hope it does a lot to educate other manufacturers into how to better their own practices when it comes to sustainability, packaging and where it sources its labour from. 

With an RRP of £100, I won't denying this is on the punchier end of the price spectrum, but for the sheer quality of materials, the versatility of the garment and highly sustainable measures that the brand swears by in producing its products, there is real value to be had from this golf hoodie. With so many to choose from on the market, I'd comfortably have it as one of the best golf hoodies on the market right now. 

The Mullybox golf subscription box is an easy way of getting stylish golf clothing and accessories delivered directly to your front door while saving some money versus high street prices in the process.

There are three types of boxes you can subscribe to, which offer different contents and are available at varying price points. The first is an apparel box ($95 per quarter) that contains a hat, pair of socks and a polo in every box equating to $150 of value. The second is called ‘The Performance’ box ($100 per quarter). The box itself was well presented and featured Mullybox detailing and had suffered no damage on its travels across the Atlantic to London. I have had subscription boxes before from a different brand that specialized in fitness equipment and felt as though I got burnt by the poor quality of product I received. I was so glad to see this was not the case when it came to opening my Mullybox.

I received a mixture of apparel, tees, caps and even a putting matt in my box, all of which was neatly packed and pleasing on the eye when I opened my box of goodies. One thing I love about the idea of the Mullybox is the suspense it creates when opening it, as you have no idea what is actually in there - I felt like a kid at Christmas! It’s a great way to discover brands that you might not have heard of before, such as Coral Golf Company whose ‘Breeze’ polo was in my box and I really liked. The shirt fit's really well and is made from a lightweight material with plenty of stretch and certainly is on par with many of the best golf polos I have worn recently.

The addition of extra tees and some of the best ball markers are all things you always need but may never purchase yourself, but one of the smaller but more practical products in the box was a pain relieving coolant gel - I’m not getting any younger! Keeping on with the practical theme, the IZZO golf putting mat was a nice little touch that will hopefully keep me ticking over during winter golf. It rolls the ball well and can easily be hidden away in a drawer when not in use. Admittedly it was fairly creased when unrolled for the first time, which happens with many of the best putting mats, but a quick iron sorted this out in no time.

The Palm Golf Co. glove included in the box was arguably my favorite mystery gift. The glove is made of top quality Cabretta leather, like all the best golf gloves, is made with reinforced wrist construction and features some cool tropical styling that will have you standing out on the course. While the leather was top quality, the glove does fit a little loose, so where I normally fit a medium/large glove, I would need a medium for this glove to fit correctly.

One other thing I like about Mullybox is how it removes the need to sift through multiple websites, finding the sizes and styles you prefer, which can take hours. The mixture of goods you receive in the Mullybox will be sure to keep you looking fresh on the course as well as improving your golf game while taking it easy on your bank account. While Mullybox is predominantly a subscription-based service, it does have an onsite "pro shop" where customers can buy a-la-carte items that they desire, including swing kits, training aids, head covers, gift cards, hats and more.

Now we have entered into the winter months and winter golf is upon us, it is time to start getting prepared for wet weather and investing in a new pair among the best golf rain pants is a good place to start.

Puma is known as one of the best apparel brands in golf, so it is no surprise it has  some great winter clothing to choose from, especially waterproof pants. These can be worn over the top of the pants you already have on, and can be taken on and off as and when needed. This makes them very helpful and useful for when you get caught out unexpectedly in the changing conditions

One of the Puma models in question is the DRYLBL Waterproof Pants which, in testing, I found to be very comfortable to wear. For starters, they have an elasticated waist and popper button, making them easy to fit even with multiple layers on. Importantly, they are fully waterproof and any zips are fully sealed to make sure there is no leaking when they get wet. 

I like the feel of the pants too. Sometimes waterproof gear can be loud and crinkly when moving but, in the case of the DRYLBL, that was not to be seen or heard. Also, there was no restriction when walking or swinging and, although the bottom of the pants are wide, they don't flap or get caught on the bottom of your shoes.

There was only one snag I could find when it came to these pants and, as it turned out, it was getting snagged. The pants inner lining is very sticky and, when trying to get them on and off over your shoes, they get stuck and can be a bit fiddly and tough to get off. If you are putting them on before your round without any shoes on then they are absolutely fine, but add shoes to the equation and it gets tough.

All in all, the Puma DRYLBL Waterproof Pants are great for those wet days and do exactly what you want them to, the only drawback being the putting on and removal of them with shoes on. It is do-able but takes some getting used to. Overall though, they are comfortable to wear and don't restrict.

In the wet weather, a proper rain jacket is really needed to help keep you warm and dry in order to enjoy your golf. However, it can be difficult to find a rain jacket that is comfortable and suits your needs but, with this Puma DRYLBL, you won't find such a problem, as it is arguably one of the best golf rain jackets that money can buy.

Testing this apparel on a cold wet day, I found that it did everything you would want it to do. First things first, it is comfortable to wear, even with multiple layers underneath, offering a fit snug but with no restrictions when it comes to the swing. 

Handily, the sleeves also have Velcro cuffs to make sure you have a good fit on the wrists. This also means that it remains waterproof and I didn't get water inside the jacket throughout my play on the course. For further peace of mind, the jacket's seams and zips have been sealed to stop any chance of leaking.

Aesthetically, the style of the jacket is relatively simple. It is available in black with grey trim on the sleeves, as well as in grey with white trim on the sleeves. Because of the block colors, it means it will go with an array of different outfits, such is the neutral color and look.

Moving away from the looks and to the fit, with the DRYLBL sitting comfortably over my midlayer and polo. This also meant I stayed warm. When the rain stopped, I took off the jacket and midlayer but, not long after, I was forced to put the jacket back on again. This is where I found the item not to be that comfortable, with the inner lining a tad sticky so that it clung to my skin a bit. From there, it did get slightly wet, which made it stick more and made me feel a little cold. That is the only thing that wasn't ideal, but if you have a long sleeve on then there is no issue.

Overall, this jacket ticks all the boxes and did indeed keep me dry, warm and comfortable throughout most of the round. Other than the minor problem with the sticky interior, there is very little to complain about with this golf jacket. 

Getting straight to the point, the Stuburt Leaden waterproof jacket is long in the body, which means no chance of water getting through to the underneath layer of clothing through the jacket riding up during the swing. An elasticated adjustable hem cord keeps the rain jacket tight to the body at the bottom. The sleeves however come up slightly short and do ride up during the swing as the jacket is tight under the arm.

There are two deep hip pockets with zips which move easily. The zip to the front has a pleasingly large pull or tab - handy if fumbling about with cold, wet hands. The insertion pin to the front zip of the jacket is easily engaged, so no need to be fumbling about here, either. There are also two poachers’ pockets inside the jacket. 

The 10,000mm waterproof rating is pretty standard for golf waterproofs and means it will keep out light showers easily, as indeed it has for me. However during a prolonged downpour the zipped hip pockets leaked ever so slightly. It should also be noted the jacket comes with a two-year waterproof guarantee.

Water does not bounce or run off this jacket as readily as it does some other waterproofs, but still clung to the outside long after it had stopped raining. So I had to hang the jacket up for several hours to dry when I got home.

The design is a classical plain black one with the Stuburt branding in white toward the top of the front zip, and by the left hip pocket. The un-lined jacket is lightweight so folds up easily into a golf bag.

We've always liked golf rain jackets and we felt that the lightweight, minimalistic feel of this jacket, combined with its outright functionality, makes it a great option for winter golf.

First and foremost, its taped seams and cuffing functionality at both wrist and waist allow no room for excess water to get in, which on a jacket that is 100% polyester, is the only place it could!

Lightweight and breathable, it offers no obstruction when it comes to on course movement. However, it's worth noting that, in achieving this, it has come at the expense of warmth, as this jacket has very little in the way of thermal lining and, therefore, acts as a waterproof piece only, so layering with a mid layer or vest is required.

In terms of aesthetic design, the cobalt colorway boasts a somewhat alternative, but nonetheless, palatable option for people who perhaps are keen to inject a little bit of color to their on-course style. In the waterproof market there's often two choices; muted or outright garish. Thankfully, the Cobalt Greylands jacket fits nicely in between; however there is a clear lack of alternative options in this regard with the only other choice being a light grey.

Moving to the stand up collar, which I think finishes off the classic look of the jacket and leaves no question that this a suitable on course option, aesthetically speaking. Whilst it does have the neutrality of a coat that can be worn off course, it's quite clearly designed in mind for what a traditional golfer would wear and, because of that, it's slightly disappointing in terms of it's shortcomings practically.

Whilst it is lightweight and waterproof, some compromises in that regard to accommodate some extra pocket placement would be useful, especially when it comes to storing golf balls, tees and other necessities.

Generally speaking, though, this is a very reliable, lightweight and performance driven waterproof jacket that will do exactly as it's supposed to during a winter round. Not only does it provide no obvious restrictions to someone looking to fully embrace the challenges of winter golf, but it's great for autumn conditions.

As far as waterproof trousers go there aren't many out there that look “cool”. However i think Penguin have achieved an excellent combination of sophisticated style and practicality with these waterproof trousers. 

Lets start with protection, just like the jacket these trousers do an excellent job at keeping you dry and sheltered from any wind or rain. The material used allows any water to bead and run right off. 

The trousers are easy enough to put on over another pair of trousers however even with the adjustable poppers around the ankles, golfers may find difficulty in putting them on while wearing their golf shoes. That being said i am a big fan of the poppers around the ankles as they proved to be much more reliable than velcro straps.

The elastic waist strap allows for plenty of give and with a popper and string to do them up they feel extra secure. Speaking of secure, the pockets are protected with a waterproof zipper so you can keep your valuables in them with the knowledge that they will remain dry.

The lightweight material used means these trousers fold up nicely and don’t take up too much room in your golf bag but i think they are almost too stylish to be kept in the bag. The white piping down the sides and outlining the back pocket and that final touch to the trousers which i think makes them very smart.

Overall these are a great pair of waterproof trousers that i think would please anyone who may get them.

Unlike the rest of the Penguin golf gear the waterproof jacket is quite tame in design with a standard block black colour. The only hint of colour is the white seem running throughout the jacket, but i guess you could say it gives it that black and white penguin vibe. 

The jacket itself does what it needs to do, it keeps you dry. Let’s delve into the looks a little bit more. Now Waterproof jackets may only come out a handful number of times a year buy you want to look when it does. The Penguin Waterproof jacket sits quite long in the body and is quite square to look at; suitable for putting on over many layers of clothing. This in turn allows for an unrestricted golf swing. For me the look of this jacket doesn’t stand out, it’s a bit too boxy for me but for some golfers this look may appeal to them. 

As a winter jacket, it delivered where you would want it to - it gives protection from wind and rain and its lightweight material doesn’t cause you to overheat. Water beaded off nicely and I felt protected despite getting caught in some downpours, something to get used to if you play golf in the UK over the winter months. The jacket comes without a hood which for me is good as I could still swing properly but for those who are worried about getting a wet head, this may be one flaw. The waterproof jacket folds up neatly, not taking up too much space in your golf bag. This is thanks to its lightweight and thin material. However, because of the thinner material you may find yourself wanting to wear an extra layer underneath.

All in all a very practical waterproof jacket, the comfort is up there and the extra details like the adjustable velcro wrist straps and elastic waist strap make for a more personal touch. The zip up waterproof pockets elevate the design of the jacket. It feels durable and well made. I will definitely be adding it to my golf bag.

I have been playing golf for my entire adult life, and it’s not so long ago that golf fashion was for the golf course, while general fashion was for everywhere else. More recently, the sport has happily become a far more popular one for all, and the apparent need for golf to have its very own clothing styles and patterns has diminished. There is now a far greater demand for, and indeed supply of, apparel that can be used in a wider setting. Peter Millar has been a key player in this, and the new Winter Wind gust jacket is a perfect example, one that can be worn and enjoyed wherever you go.

I have been a golfer for over 40 years, and it is nothing but a pleasure to find clothing that I can enjoy playing in, but which doesn’t label me as a golfer. This now even applies to the best golf shoes, and while not so long ago I would have reached for a sweater or fleece when the sun was setting or the wind was getting up, having this gust jacket in the bag is an excellent new option.

While thin, the material is very soft and comfortable and a pleasure to wear. It is made from a blend of 90% polyester and 10% spandex, and I really enjoy the snug but flattering fit. Even over my ample chest and stomach, it looks really good and has already won admiring comments from my friends. The comfort comes from a thin, gridded, fleecy interior which weaves its magic without adding to the bulk, and the material has a 4-way stretch with the bonus of being water-resistant. I feel I can easily wear this over a polo shirt or a mid-layer, or potentially even under a rain jacket.

The popular Peter Millar brand name appears just below the right shoulder, while the crown sport logo is just below the collar on the back. There is also a very well hidden external chest pocket that is so subtle, I almost missed it, and the whole thing is made using recycled material which adds even more to its credentials and appeal. It’s hard to be specific about recommending the uses for a garment that is so extremely versatile that it can be worn pretty much anywhere and on any occasion, but that is the joy of this high-quality Peter Millar windbreaker.

Over recent years, the quality and visual appeal of waterproof golf clothing has improved beyond all recognition. This applies at all levels in the market, but all the more so at the premium end where Peter Millar’s latest Shield Pro offerings have changed the need to wear waterproofs from a burden into a pleasure. When it comes to golf rain pants, the brand’s all-new Rain Walker is as good as it gets.

Both stylish and extremely comfortable, the construction is 65% nylon and 35% polyester, and is the result of extensive research into preparing the best-possible protection for the 2023 US Walker Cup team at St Andrews. This premium-quality garment comes at a premium price, but you certainly get what you pay for. I found the pant to live up to all three of the maker’s primary claims - windproof, waterproof and exceptionally breathable - on top of which was an added bonus; comfort and ease of wear. Everything about the construction, appearance and features gave me the confidence that I was being protected from the elements.

As for the technical details, then these are not the lightest trousers in the world, but I am just about always grateful for a little extra warmth when the rain comes and they are still no trouble at all to wear. There are three layers of material in the construction with one vital ingredient being the hydrophilic membrane which allows any internal moisture to escape. Needless to say, the external surface is completely water repellent, while the latest improvements in seam technology mean that the stitching is reliable and robust. I was particularly taken with the leg fastenings which allow you to adjust the fit to be exactly how you want them over your regular golf pants or even shorts. With a protective flap that runs over a zip almost up to your knees, I found them super-easy to get on and off. There is also a long Velcro strip allowing you to make them as tight or as loose as you like.

I particularly liked the overall look as it is both smart and subtle. The Peter Millar name appears on the upper right leg, and the brand’s crown sport logo is displayed on the right-hand flap of the two, rear zippered pockets. The two side pockets also have zips, all of which are in a contrasting pale grey color that lends a subtle lift.

I found the comfort, protection and maneuverability of the Rain Walker pant while playing to be first-class. As a keen outdoors person, I would be equally happy wearing them while out walking in the middle of winter. Over the years I have owned many waterproof pants, and these are simply the best yet.

As someone who has been playing golf for 45 years, I have been through more than my fair share of waterproofs. Back in the day, they generally seemed to be made of extremely thick, shiny plastic that had little flexibility and left you feeling as though you were playing golf in a deep-sea diving suit. Golfers tended to look like trawlermen braving the elements out in the mid-Atlantic. Happily, things have changed massively since then. Not only do modern waterproofs do the job way more efficiently, but they look great and are now a real pleasure to wear.

When I first tried on the new Rain Walker jacket from Peter Millar, I could see it was a step up yet again. This is a rain jacket that is stylish, comfortable and in no way a hindrance to playing golf. It is an all-new construction consisting of 65% nylon and 35% polyester that is very happily, as the makers rightly say, windproof, waterproof and exceptionally breathable. I found it to be all three, with the slight stretchiness of the material adding to the comfort and ease of movement.

A great deal of work was put into its design for the 2023 US Walker Cup team at St Andrews, and the result is a top-end, premium-quality garment, admittedly at a premium price. For the technically minded, then despite being perfectly light to wear and to carry in your bag, this Shield Pro jacket has three layers of material in its construction including a hydrophilic membrane which allows any internal moisture to escape. As you would expect from this rain gear, the external surface is fully water repellent, and the latest improvements in seam technology mean that the stitching is extremely robust and reliable. There is a mechanism to tighten or loosen the flexible collar and the seam around the bottom, while the adjustable cuffs can be as loose or as tight as you like with a graduated flap that keeps everything looking neat and tidy. The jacket fits perfectly outside any base- or mid-layers without ever feeling at all cumbersome.

I love the way that the overall look is so smart and understated, somehow classic and yet still modern at the same time. The Peter Millar name appears on the right shoulder as well as the brand’s crown sport logo at the top of the rear of the jacket. There are two spacious zippered pockets on the outside that are edged in a lighter color that provides contrast, as do two thin strips of material on the back of the sleeves which give the overall appearance a subtle lift. I found both comfort and maneuverability while playing to be first-class, and the confidence you gain from wearing this top-quality jacket is another of its many benefits. The zipper also allows you to open the jacket from bottom or top, and it even comes with a very light, adjustable waterproof bucket hat.

I have owned many waterproof jackets over the years, and this is quite simply the best one yet; one I will be happy to wear as I battle the elements on the course, but also one I will be extremely happy to wear away from the course.
