The changing face of hospitality means that the majority of those enjoying the hospitality packages at The Open will not be guests of businesses engaged in corporate hospitality, but individual golf fans or groups of golfing friends looking for enhanced spectator experiences.

For some golf fans, the attraction of these hospitality packages is in having one of the best seats in the house; or, indeed, simply just a seat at The Open as there will be record crowds this year at Royal Troon and tickets have sold out after a record number of ballot applications. This year The Open is returning to Royal Troon, a venerable Ayrshire links steeped in golfing history. It last played host to the Championship in 2016, a memorable showdown that saw Henrik Stenson emerge victorious in a breathtaking battle with Phil Mickelson.

Previous winners of The Open at Royal Troon include true greats of the game in Bobby Locke, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson. But in 2004 Royal Troon witnessed one of the greatest of sporting unlikely triumphs. Coming to the 72nd hole Todd Hamilton held a one-shot lead over Ernie Els, but bogeyed that final hole, leaving Els with a 12-foot birdie putt for the win. Els missed. The 38-year Hamilton who had won only once one tour, triumphed in the subsequent playoff.

Golfing fans wanting to see this year’s action close up have a range of hospitality options to chose from. Proceeds from this are reinvested by The R&A into the game. The R&A has committed to investing £200 million over ten years in developing golf and supporting the growth of the sport internationally.

BBC Commentator and former Ryder Cup played Ken Brown will be the guest on Thursday. Colin Montgomerie will be the guest on Friday. Not only has Monty won a record eight Order of Merit titles on the European Tour, but his father was the Secretary of Royal Troon. On Saturday, three-time Open Champion Sir Nick Faldo will be answering the questions and on Sunday it will be former Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn.
