Although not long on paper, West Sussex at Pulborough is still a real test of golf and great fun.

There’s only one par 5, the relatively gentle opening hole, but there are five par 3s, all varied, all attractive and all testing. This is especially true of the long 6th over water, which can be played as a dog-leg, if so desired.

Much work has been done in recent times to clear overgrown woodland and restore the course to its original condition, and by opening up the water short left of the 14th they have made this into a beautiful hole.

The day rate for societies with lunch is very good value. RS

+ Good variety of holes; exceptional practice facilities; nice clubhouse - Mainly 2-ball play; quite short; have to cross 7th fairway to get to 17th tee
